Concrete Washout Systems, Inc. Expands Its Presence into the East Bay Market of California

Bay Area Washout Systems, LLC., services builders and contractors in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.

Elk Grove, CA (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) July 29, 2005 -- Concrete Washout Systems, Inc., announced today that it has signed a new licensing agreement with its newest partner, Bay Area Washout Systems, who will begin distributing and servicing the Concrete Washout Systems (CWS) in Alameda and Contra Costa County markets of California.

Bay Area Washout Systems, a start-up company specifically formed to distribute and service the CWS, began servicing builders and contractors at the end of June 2005 within Alameda and Contra Costa Counties in California. Mark Figone, an industry veteran in the California waste hauling industry, will be guiding the new company.

"I have been in the waste hauling industry for quite some time and believe this is one of the most innovative products both the building and waste hauling industries have seen," stated Mark Figone, President of Bay Area Washout Systems, LLC. "We will be able to provide the local construction industry not only a risk management solution but also a waste reduction solution by diverting and recycling all of the concrete waste from our landfills," added Mr. Figone.

"We are very excited to have and industry veteran with Mark's accomplishments and experience come aboard and realize the value and opportunity in our business model," stated Kevin Mickelson, Vice President of Concrete Washout Systems, Inc. "Bay Area Washout Systems will be providing a growing construction market an innovative product and service and with the tremendous interest developing due to state and regional stormwater and waste diversion regulations. East Bay will be providing a much needed risk management solution," added Mr. Mickelson.

Licensed partners will own and operate a Concrete Washout Systems business in their designated region where they will be responsible for all aspects of the business. Currently Concrete Washout Systems has licensed partners throughout most of California, Hawaii, Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada, Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, Denver, Colorado and Southeast Florida and has recently signed license agreements for portions of Minnesota and Texas.

The patent pending CWS is a portable, self-contained and watertight bin that controls, captures and contains concrete washout material and wastewater. It allows trade personnel to easily washout concrete trucks, pumps and equipment on site and facilitates easy off site recycling of the same concrete materials and wastewater, while protecting the storm drain system from potential illegal discharges. The off site recycling component creates an even more environmentally sound application. This risk management system replaces other outdated washout BMPs, which are costly, unsightly and damaging to the environment since their containment value diminishes, due to inherently faulty material, over use and lack of maintenance.

About Concrete Washout Systems, Inc.
Concrete Washout Systems is a risk management specialist and industry pioneer in concrete washout and wastewater removal, treatment and recycling. The patent-pending Concrete Washout Systems provides a cost effective, environmentally friendly and compliance alternative for homebuilders, contractors, ready mix and pump operators and environmental engineering firms. Shaffer Hired To Sell Shops at East Hills in Bakersfield, California for $15M

BH Malls, LLC has retained Bryan Shaffer, President of SLS Investments to sell the Shops at East Hills for $15M.

(PRWEB) July 29, 2005 -- BH Malls, LLC has retained Bryan Shaffer, President of SLS Investments to sell the Shops at East Hills for $15M.

“In today’s market it’s rare to find a value added mall opportunity in California for under $85 square foot. For the smart developer, the great freeway location and amazing growth in the area make this an exceptional opportunity,” said Shaffer.

Shaffer was amazed that the first day the property was on the market he had more than 100 calls. He added, “I had buyers who wanted to make offers before they even visited the site. I explained we want the buyer who will close for sure and understands the property.”

When asked why he received the assignment, Shaffer explained, “SLS is mainly an investor, advisor and financier, but with my close friendship with the owner and my experience selling over $1.2 Billion in properties over the last five years for a large Japanese company here in California, it made sense to get us involved. It very similar to a center I sold a few years back and our strategy worked great for both the buyer and the seller.”

“I love properties like this where the buyer will have the ability to create something new. When I speak at conferences or on Television, I always tell people that the true joy in real estate is making the property better for the community and tenants,” explained Shaffer.

Seaboard Weatherproofing Lands Coveted Woolworth Restoration Project

Seaboard Weatherproofing and Restoration has been retained to rehabilitate the decorative terra-cotta façade of the Woolworth Building in lower Manhattan. Construction recently commenced on the project.

(PRWEB) July 29, 2005 -- Seaboard Weatherproofing and Restoration has been retained to rehabilitate the decorative terra-cotta façade of the Woolworth Building in lower Manhattan. Construction recently commenced on the project.

The 60-story landmark building, completed in 1913, is a neo-Gothic masterpiece designed by Cass Gilbert. The scope of the project includes restoring damaged limestone on the first four floors, replacement and repair of over 400 decorative terra-cotta stones, and resealing the joints of all copper mansard roofs.

"It is an honor to work on such a classic structure," said Michael Y. Ahearn, President of Seaboard Weatherproofing and Restoration. "Historical restoration is one of our specialties and it doesn’t get much better than this."

Called the "Cathedral of Commerce," the Woolworth Building stood as the world’s tallest until the Chrysler Building surpassed it in 1930. The building served as the Woolworth Company's headquarters until the retailer declared bankruptcy in 1997. Architect Cass Gilbert also constructed 90 West Street, which was heavily damaged in the 9-11 attack. Seaboard is in the final stages of restoring 90 West, which was recently ranked number 14 by New York Construction Magazine’s Top 20 projects 2004-05.

The Woolworth Building is a New York City Landmark, and all work must be approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission, which ensures that exterior alterations are historically accurate. Seaboard takes great care in creating a watertight and sound façade for the future while respecting the history of every stone being repaired.

Seaboard is currently assisting the architect in façade inspections of the entire building envelope. Several new conditions are being uncovered, which Seaboard is working to resolve in consultation with the architect and the terra-cotta manufacturer. Work on the building is expected to be completed by the end of 2005.

Seaboard Weatherproofing and Restoration is located at 530 Willett Avenue in Port Chester, NY. The Company recently celebrated its 60th anniversary.

About Seaboard Weatherproofing and Restoration:
Based in Port Chester, NY, Seaboard Weatherproofing and Restoration is one of the leading restoration and alteration construction firms in the New York City metropolitan area. The company has received several accolades for its work on high-profile projects, including The Elephant House at the Bronx Zoo, The Cloisters museum, and 90 West Street, originally constructed in 1907 and designed by noted architect Cass Gilbert, which experienced extensive damage during the 9-11 attack. Seaboard Project Named Among the Top Projects Completed in 2004-2005 by New York Construction Magazine

Seaboard Weatherproofing and Restoration's 90 West Street project was ranked number 14 by New York Construction Magazine's Top 20 projects 2004-05. The annual report lists the most notable projects in the metropolitan region according to dollar volume. The magazine cited Seaboard's work at 90 West Street, a New York City landmark that The New York Times called "9-11’s miracle survivor."

(PRWEB) July 29, 2005 -- Seaboard Weatherproofing and Restoration's 90 West Street project was ranked number 14 by New York Construction Magazine's Top 20 projects 2004-05. The annual report lists the most notable projects in the metropolitan region according to dollar volume. The magazine cited Seaboard’s work at 90 West Street, a New York City landmark that The New York Times called "9-11's miracle survivor."

Falling debris from the attack damaged the building's exterior, and a fire raged for days, gutting parts of the interior. The building, constructed in 1907 by acclaimed architect Cass Gilbert, has been converted from offices into 410 apartments.

"It was a privilege to work on such a distinguished building," said Michael Y. Ahearn, President of Seaboard Weatherproofing and Restoration. "In addition to the significance of this project from an historical perspective, it is an honor to be able to work in this part of New York City, which got knocked down, but not out."

The $145 million project generated coverage by The New York Times, New York Newsday, and the construction press. Seaboard Weatherproofing and Restoration reproduced every detail, from the copper mansard roof to 7,000 new pieces of terra cotta and ornate hand-cut granite carved in Italy and Canada. Seaboard revamped the building's façade and its four-story base, hewn from granite cubes up to four feet thick, replacing most of the first three floors of granite base at the north façade with a new panelized granite system.

Seaboard Weatherproofing and Restoration is located at 530 Willett Avenue in Port Chester, NY. The Company recently celebrated its 60th anniversary.

Boise Company Provides a Window to the Construction Site

Watching a home being built has never been easier thanks to new wireless video technology.

Boise, ID (PRWEB) July 28, 2005 -- When the time comes to build the home of your dreams you will want to savor every moment of its construction.

For Inez Snyder, of Harrisburg, Penn., being there for the construction of her dream home – a luxurious log home more than 2,000 miles away in the mountains of Idaho – wouldn’t have been possible without the new technology now available from Boise, Idaho-based iBEAM Systems Inc.

Thanks to the iBEAM system, Snyder has had a front-row seat through all phases of her home’s construction, and she didn’t have to use up her frequent flier miles to do it.

Each morning Snyder sits down before her computer with a cup of coffee and checks the progress being made on her home that is taking shape in world class ski resort town of Sun Valley, Idaho.

The iBEAM system – a combination of a wireless camera, transmitting base station, and viewing software — allows Inez, with a few clicks of a mouse, to see in real-time right from her computer screen what’s happening with her new vacation home.

Unlike a web cam that is mounted in a stationary position, iBEAM’s portable camera and wireless transmitter allow the builder of the home to go through a project and point out specific items or zero in on problem areas.

While the builder is using the camera he can also be on the phone with the home’s architect or owner who is watching on the computer. Together they can work through any issue before it becomes a larger problem.

Somewhat skeptical about the iBEAM system at first, Snyder said she now would recommend that everyone include the iBEAM system into their home’s construction costs. Not only was the system easy to use, Snyder said it was also a big hit over the holidays when the whole family was able to view in real-time what the Sun Valley home looked like on Christmas morning.

But beyond the novelty and the comfort of knowing you can check on your home at any time, Snyder said the iBEAM system makes it possible for her to be involved in the final finishing details that go into building a home.

Snyder is actively involved in putting the final design touches on her home. Normally that type of involvement would mean frequent trips to the construction site, but making sure everything comes out just right is easy with iBEAM.

If she wants to check something specific in the home all Inez has to do is call her builder, who uses the portable iBEAM camera to give her a virtual tour on a moment’s notice.

“With the help of iBEAM we noticed a few times things that needed to be corrected and we caught them right after they happened,” Snyder said.

Tom Allen, president and founder of iBEAM, first developed the idea for such a system more than two decades ago. But at that time technology wasn’t at a point where a system like this was feasible.

In the mid 1980s, Allen, a professional architect, was involved in some of Boise’s larger commercial projects. It was during those projects that Allen would find himself going from job site to job site trying to resolve the latest problem.

“It was a daily situation we had to deal with because it was hard to verbally describe what you wanted over the phone,” Allen said.

Having to travel from site to site was a time-consuming endeavor, but one Allen said was necessary to avoid costly mistakes that would have to be corrected later.
Allen said what makes the iBEAM system better than a web cam or a camera cell phone is the ease with which the system can be installed and the ability to do everything in real-time.

All iBEAM needs to transmit is a working phone line to plug the base unit into. Antennas are then set up so the camera can transmit wirelessly to the base station. No broadband connection is required to view the video, but the faster the connection, the faster the image rate.

The software system allows users to view the video and capture still images to a “virtual white board” where drawings and notes can be added. The system also lets multiple viewers access a transmission at the same time, allowing for a virtual business conference.

Allen said iBEAM was initially targeted at the commercial construction industry as a tool to save busy architects and builders valuable time, but it is just as well suited for residential construction, especially for homeowners like Snyder who don’t have the luxury of visiting the construction site on a regular basis.

Allen said the uses for iBEAM also don’t end when the last nail on a project is pounded in. The system can remain in place as a security application, allowing homeowners and building owners the ability to check up on their properties at any time via the computer.

He also envisions iBEAM as a tool to broadcast events to others that can’t be there. Do you have relatives that can’t make a family wedding or special gathering? Allen says the iBEAM can bring that special event to those relatives as its happening. He also envisions iBEAM being used for medical uses such as showing a patient’s condition to doctors thousands of miles away.

But back home in Pennsylvania, Snyder isn’t thinking about the many uses of iBEAM, she’s just been enjoying watching her dream home become a reality.

“The iBEAM system has really made us feel close to the home,” Snyder said.

CTL|Thompson Chosen to Work on Multi-Family Apartments

CTL|Thompson (CTL|T) has been selected to provide geotechnical and design investigations for Talavera, Onion Creek and Vaught Road apartments, and the Texan Tower.

Austin, Texas (PRWEB) July 28, 2005 -- CTL|Thompson (CTL|T) has been selected to provide geotechnical and design investigations for Talavera, Onion Creek and Vaught Road apartments, and the Texan Tower.

Talavera, Onion Creek and Vaught Road apartments are being built by Trammell Crow Residential, the first of which broke ground in early July.

CTL|T addressed a variety of conditions at these sites ranging from existing deep fill compression and expansive soil problems to weathered rock exposed on slopes.

Based on the soils encountered and the anticipated structural loads, CTL|T recommended alternatives including removal and recompaction of deep fill, removal of expansive soils and replacement with low swelling material, stabilization using lime and moisture to reduce the risk of movement of foundations, and over excavation and benching of slopes.

The Texan Tower is a seven-story multi-family high rise with a two-story underground garage located at 608 W. 24th Street. The design team includes Ely Properties, Sterling Engineers and Chiles Architects. CTL|T addressed expansive soil problems and recommended deep piers for the foundation.

Over the past 34 years, CTL|Thompson has grown its regional expertise in geotechnical, materials and environmental engineering and testing. The firm has nine regional offices located in Austin and Dallas, Texas; and Colorado Springs, Crested Butte, Denver, Fort Collins, Glenwood Springs, and Pueblo, Colorado. Concrete Washout Systems, Inc. Rolls Into the Grand Canyon State

Washout Systems, LLC has begun servicing builders and contractors in the greater Tucson, Arizona market.

Elk Grove, CA (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) July 26, 2005 -- Concrete Washout Systems, Inc., announced today that Washout Systems, LLC (Arizona) has recently began distributing and servicing Concrete Washout Systems (CWS) in Cochise, Pima, Pinal and Santa Cruz Counties of Arizona.

Washout Systems is a newly formed company operating under the guidance of Brian Ham, president of Santa Rita Landscape, one of Southern Arizona’s largest landscape companies established in 1985.

“Finally South and Central Arizona have an economical solution to a problem that has been a burden to the construction industry for many years,” stated Brian Ham, President of Washout Systems LLC. “Not only does Concrete Washout Systems solve the compliance issues but it’s the simplicity and housekeeping that will impress our customers,” added Mr. Ham.

“We are very excited to have Mr. Ham as a licensed partner in Southern Arizona,” stated Kevin Mickelson, Vice President of Concrete Washout Systems, Inc. “Mr. Ham has a well established business and understands the importance of continuing to provide his customers with products and services to assist them in managing their overall risk relating to storm water and erosion control,” added Mr. Mickelson.

CWS is currently seeking licensed partners in numerous markets across the nation. Licensed partners will own and operate a Concrete Washout Systems business in their designated region where they will be responsible for all aspects of the business. Currently Concrete Washout Systems has licensed partners throughout most of California, Hawaii, Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada, Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, Denver, Colorado and Southeast Florida.

The off site recycling component creates an even more environmentally sound application as concrete material is diverted away from landfills and recycled. This system replaces other outdated washout BMP’s, which are costly, unsightly and damaging to the environment since their containment value diminishes, due to inherently faulty material, over use and lack of maintenance.

5.6 Million Small Businesses Qualify for Tax Subsidy Program

5.6 million small businesses nationwide are eligible for a tax subsidy program that helps businesses deal with the challenges of growth, exit and taxes. However, only about 1,500 of eligible businesses have taken advantage of it. A.B.R.C. introduces a program to help S-Corporations qualify for this tax subsidy. www.abrc-esop.com.

(PRWEB) July 27, 2005 – American Business Resource Corporation president Evan Rhodes has a formidable challenge — helping small businesses stay in business.

The U.S. Small Business Administration, Office of Advocacy, states that the average small business lifecycle in the U.S. is less than 12.5 years. Collapse or abandonment often comes because business owners are unable to cope with the business challenges of growth, they have an unclear exit strategy, or they mishandle their taxes.

Rhodes says, "In my 20 years as a management consultant, business owners' problems have consistently revolved around three main issues: growth, exit and taxes."

This observation led Rhodes to create a program to help small-business owners deal with growth, exit and taxes (G.E.T.). The G.E.T. Program uses Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) as a corporate financial strategy for S-Corporations. The Employee Stock Ownership Plan for S-Corporations is a government subsidy program that has been in place for nearly seven years.

In 1998, Congress took steps to radically reform ESOPs: they decided to include S-Corporations as a type of company that could be sold to an ESOP. Additionally, they provided that if the business was sold to an ESOP, the company would be exempt from all income tax on its profits. The money the owner used to pay in taxes could now be used to partially or fully fund the sale of the business to the ESOP. Not only does this create a market for smaller companies, it also funds the transaction through tax savings and provides retirement benefits to employees.

Despite the many advantages of installing an ESOP, only about 1,500 of the eligible 5.6 million small businesses nationwide have used it. Why is this? Rhodes offers three reasons: 1) A lack of understanding on the part of financial advisors about ESOPs; 2) Confusion regarding the older C-Corporation version of the ESOP –- which is generally less attractive, and 3) Lack of proactive exit planning on the part of business owners.

Why is the government encouraging ESOPs for small businesses? Rhodes says, "The logic is quite simple: the more businesses stay open, the more employees there are to pay taxes and thus create much needed revenue for the government."

In the next 10 to 15 years, 76 million baby-boomers will be retiring. Exploding numbers of baby-boomer business owners will soon be divesting themselves of their businesses. Business owners who plan to retire in the next decade would be wise to create a competitive advantage in a buyers' market. They can begin by exploring ESOP as a succession or exit strategy to help ensure their business lives on and they receive full value for their company.

Bernie Lumbert of Crestone, Colorado Wins Liar's Contest

The annual Baca Grande (Big Cow) Liar's contest was held on the 4th of July with several 5ths of stumblejuice by the old Bonanza mine. Everyone was feeling no pain except a hound which went into a bramble so thick he had to back up to bark.

(PRWEB) July 26, 2005 -- The annual Baca Grande (Big Cow) Liar's contest was held on the 4th of July with several 5ths of stumblejuice by the old Bonanza mine. Everyone was feeling no pain except a hound which went into a bramble so thick he had to back up to bark.

Well, Richard took third place with is yarn about finding the skeleton of a dead cow and tracked it footprints back to the place where it was born, 40 miles a way, Greg trumped him by tracking the cow back another 10 miles to where it was conceived.

Our hero, octogenerial Bernie Lumbert opened with his favorite about the Bonanza mine having a rich vein of mustard at the 400 foot level and continued by saying, “The Baca Grande resort will never amount to anything!"

That did it for everyone present knew that one of the hottest real estate developments in America was the beautiful Bocca. Originally ten thousand lots with a fine 7,000-foot paved runway and fishing lake with a Best Western hotel and nice 8-hole golf course

That was 30 years ago and lots sold for $20,000 and up. Today there are only about 5,000 lots remaining but they are beautiful. So many people believe that the Baca Grande will boom that land values have raised about 100 % in less than a year.

Comparable lots in other mountain resorts go for $100,000 or more.

There are about 4,000 lots left in Chalet I and II, and 1,000 in Grants, of the original subdivision platted back in 1972. Various nature conservancies and spiritual groups have taken over the rest and it is just a matter of time before the condos, town houses and timeshares come in.

“This mountain community will explode like Sedona or Telluride” Bernie Lumber said, “It is snuggled up against the Sangre de Christo mountains and Great Sand Dunes like a giant cookie waiting to be eaten.”

Electric Thermal Storage (ETS) Heating System Rescuing Facilities from Runaway Commercial Heating Costs

Government/public institutions replace furnace with electric thermal storage heating system reducing energy costs for comfort heating, by as much as 48%.

(PRWEB) July 26, 2005 -- No longer a secret, the word about the successful use of an electric thermal storage (ETS) heating system to reduce heating expenses in the commercial and industrial world has now spread to the public sector. Institutions such as schools, universities, and hospitals are quickly adopting ETS technologies to reduce peak-demand energy costs by efficiently storing heat during low-cost, off-peak hours, and then releasing this less-costly energy during normal working hours or peak periods in order to reduce the billable demand. With documented savings of up to 48%, facility managers at some public buildings are even replacing aging natural gas furnace systems with an ETS heating system that reap rapid payback because of reduced utility expenses (http://www.steffes.com/offpeak).

"With ETS, there are savings beyond the avoidance of excessive peak-demand energy costs; this is a way to ensure a good payback," says Alain Moreau, Researcher and Project Manager for Hydro-Quebec, one of the largest energy distributors in the world. "The payback period that I can see for ETS is between zero and four years."

Unlike manufacturing and processing plants that can push production into "off" hours, public institutions must be open during peak-demand hours to allow public access. Therefore, public and commercial offices with an electric furnace must bear the brunt of high heating expenses.

Yet, further gains accrue to those public facilities that currently rely on a natural gas furnace for comfort heating purposes.

Ecole Gérard Collin of Cabano, a public elementary school located in Cabano, Quebec, needed to provide heating for its 578 students using the school gymnasium. With average winter temperatures of -7 to –9 C to in Quebec pitted against rising utility costs, the school's director of material resources, Donald Daigle, turned to an ETS unit to contain expenses and replace their electric furnace.

"At Cabano, all the space heating is provided by electricity, and it took approximately 70 kW of electricity to heat the gym," recalls Moreau. "But then we installed a Model 8150 ThermElect ETS unit from Steffes. The gym is now heated only by the ThermElect, so we effectively used it as a load reduction tool to reduced the peak-demand costs for the school."

Steffes Corporation is a leading manufacturer of ETS equipment, with thousands of systems in use at residential sites across North America.

According to Daigle, Cabano School has already reduced overall heating costs for the campus by over $1,000-1200 (Canadian) using the ThermElect unit to heat the 1,000 sf gym.

"The impact of the heat reduction was high; in fact, we were able to reduce the peak demand at the school by 70 kW," says Hydro-Quebec's Moreau. "I know the client is very happy."

Pleased with the reality of impressive utility savings, Cabano school plans to purchase two more ETS units for their heating system
in 2006 to heat classrooms and administration offices totaling 2,000 square feet.

Other public institutions have taken note of successful installations such as this, making ETS an increasingly appealing choice for public and commercial buildings.

ThermElect has been developed for the business customers by Steffes Corporation with Laboratoire des Technologies de l’Energie (LTE), a leading technology arm of Hydro-Québec, one of the world’s largest utilities. More information about how electric thermal storage works or replacing your heating system in time for winter can be found at www.steffes.com.

Research and Markets: Health and Safety in Construction Design

Research and Markets has announced the addition of Health and Safety in Construction Design to their offering.

Dublin (PRWEB) July 26, 2005 -- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c21266) has announced the addition of Health and Safety in Construction Design to their offering.

Statistics suggest that in the majority of major accidents across a range of industries, the root causes can be traced back before anybody actually started work. These include effective research, development, specification and planning.

In construction, much of the time at the beginning of any project is usually involved with design, which makes the designer’s role one of the most influential health and safety roles in the whole process. “Health and Safety in Construction Design” is a highly practical guide to help any designer understand the implications of health and safety legislation for their role in a project. Brian Thorpe also offers a realistic plan to help adopt a health and safety culture in the design process. This means using the people, experience and information to assess and eliminate risk and, where this is not possible, to reduce and communicate risk in such a way that contractors, sub-contractors, site visitors – even the people using the finished building – are able to avoid accidents.

Designers may only be actively present for a very small percentage of any given project. However, their influence on site safety needs to extend to cover people they do not manage or communicate with personally and who may be resistant to regulations and often willing to take personal risk (either consciously or unconsciously).

“Health and Safety in Construction Design” shows how, if the designers get it right, they will create a safety culture and how this achievement will be visible in the way all partners in the project work together. If they get it wrong, they expose themselves and their practice to prosecution and civil action, everyone on site to physical and/or mental harm, and the project to time and cost overruns and failure.

This book is part of the Leading Construction Series and supports the IOSH Health and Safety in Construction Design course developed by the National Construction College.

Mercury, Amalgam, Thimerosal and Risk: From T. Ray Deal, Author of "Unlimited Energy," a Predictive Sci-Fi Fantasy About Post Peak Oil

Author T. Ray Deal has a profound interest in the effects of Mercury after nearly dying from Mercury Toxicity from silver fillings. He is, as is 3 pc of the population, allergic to mercury. Plus he had mercury toxicity after being given mixed metals in his mouth in the form of metal caps. [Galvanism].

(PRWEB) July 25, 2005 -- There is so much debate and unreason about Mercury that author T. Ray Deal feels that another perspective may help. If you want to become a master of hindsight about what is going on today then mentally try and travel forward in time and work out what people will be saying in 50 years time about today's controversies.

Peanut allergy and Mercury allergy are much the same, in that a small percent of people are allergic to the substances. In perspective, up to 6 million citizens of the USA are allergic to Mercury in some way or other. The majority of citizens still don't know that their silver fillings are 50 pc Mercury and that they leak Mercury steadily according to a large German study,BBC and WHO.

Mercury is one of the most toxic elements on the planet and many would say that it sits next to Plutonium on the scale of toxicity. What is not generally known is that when Mercury exists as Thimerosal it is 30 to 50 times more toxic than ordinary Mercury. According to a study by Boyd Haley it is still used in the production of Vaccines and Mercury remains in a conjugated form in the end product.

Mercury, like other 'Heavy Metals' is an 'accumulative poison', that quickly leaves the bloodstream and migrates to our organs where is wreaks havoc with our hormonal and immune systems. It gets everywhere it shouldn't. In human terms it would be equivalent to an amoral psychopath with nihilistic fantasies. No-one is immune to this monster.

We all get a body burden of Mercury from different sources, Amalgam...WHO, fish...Hightower, Power Stations and Crematoria plus all the other products around us that use it. Some people lacking in special enzymes, because humans were not designed for living in a toxic environment, cannot remove this substance and suffer considerably. Others remove more when they are young, but generally suffer to some extent when older.

Knowing this, and the extremely well documented risks and the Clear and Present Danger presented by Mercury in any of its forms would a civilisation in 50 years time use Mercury at all if it hadn't used it before. Why do eye-drop manufacturers warn us to check for allergy to Thimerosal, but vaccine manufactures do not.

Would a civilisation of our time, having not used Mercury, start putting enough in each of its citizen's mouths to contaminate several lakes. Would any civilised mind advocate mass injecting our children with peanut oil without pre-testing them for allergies?. So why do it with Thimerosal laced Vaccines.

How can any mind advocate the continued use of Mercury for our children's teeth or fillings without pre-testing them? Given the horrors of CJD being indestructible would any future society recycle old mercury to make more fillings?

Once we start asking this type of question then we realise that, sometimes, good old 'common sense' must be the order of the day. If we want a good future for ourselves and our children, we are all, singularly and collectively, going to have to put some effort into future risk management before it is too late.

www.melisa.org test for heavy metal allergy or can recommended a partner in your country that does.

Should you want to research the effects of mercury this link will give you all the facts and back-up papers... http://www.home.earthlink.net/~berniew1/indexa.html

Northern California Bricklayers/Stonemasons on Strike

On July 18, 2005, the Northern California Bricklayers/Stonemasons went on strike. Events leading up to the strike began when contract negotiations broke down last week. The Northern California Masonry Contractors Association sent a letter to the Bricklayers/Stonemasons and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) Local 3 Union announcing they are cutting off contract negotiations.

Oakland, CA (PRWEB) July 25, 2005 -- On July 18, 2005 the Northern California Bricklayers/Stonemasons went on strike. Events leading up to the strike began when contract negotiations broke down last week. The Northern California Masonry Contractors Association sent a letter to the Bricklayers/Stonemasons and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) Local 3 Union announcing they are cutting off contract negotiations.

BAC decided to call a strike against members of the contractors' association in an effort to get them to return to negotiations. The major points of contention focus around health care, retiree subsidy, pension funding, and travel compensation. Since June 2002, wages have only increased $0.80 (80 cents) per hour; that’s an average increase of $0.26 (26 cents) per year!

BAC Local 3 Bricklayers/Stonemasons of Northern California have been working without a contract since July 1, 2005. In July 2004, the Bricklayers/Stonemasons took a $1.50 per hour pay cut to fund their health care benefit. Bricklayers/Stonemasons are asking for a raise to recover the July 2004 pay cut and to cover increases in health care that are scheduled for January 2006. Currently, the Bricklayers/Stonemasons pay $7.25 per hour for health care. That is more than people earn for minimum wage. Further, the contractors blocked the funding of the Bricklayers/Stonemasons retiree’s health care subsidy.

The Bricklayers/Stonemasons are also seeking an increase to cover the cost of living increases, such as gas and housing. Since last year, gasoline in California has increased over 40% while the Bricklayers/Stonemasons wage decreased by an average of 3%. A bricklayer’s job is never in the same place month after month as it might be for someone who works in an office in one location. Due to the few qualified bricklayers/stonemasons in California, the large geographic area of the Northern 46 counties, and variable job locations, an employer may require a bricklayers/stonemason to travel over 200 miles a day. This is common in such specialty crafts as masonry.

The average bricklayer earns less than $37,000 per year due to the seasonality of the occupation. According to the California Budget Project report “How much does it cost to raise a Family in California” (2003), a bricklayer’s family is not making ends meet. Many Bricklayers/Stonemasons and their families are having difficulty making rent or mortgage payments coupled with the cost of childcare, food, gasoline, and automotive expenses.

Economic, labor, and work projections all indicate robust growth for the construction and bricklayer industry. The Bricklayers/Stonemasons are reasonable and willing to discuss all options with the contractors. The bricklayer’s membership overwhelmingly voted to reject the contractor’s latest offer and believe they can solve the differences through further negotiation. The Bricklayers/Stonemasons came to bargain in good faith and as of today, the contractors association has not made a logical argument for their refusal to grant the Bricklayers/Stonemasons the requested increase in compensation.

Bricklayers/Stonemasons and Allied Craftworkers represent approximately 3,000 Bricklayers/Stonemasons, Tile Layers and Finishers, Pointer Cleaner Caulkers, Marble Setters and Finishers, Terrazzo Mechanics and Finishers, and Refractory Bricklayers/Stonemasons who work various aspects of the industry in the Northern 46 counties of California.

“We are some of the hardest workers society has to offer. Due to the skyrocketing cost of health care, housing, childcare, and gas, we are becoming part of the working poor. We deserve better for this ancient and honorable craft,” says James C. Bresnahan, President BAC Local 3.

Tuff-Seal Aviation Flooring Line announced by Flooring Adventures

Tuff-Seal Aviation Flooring was announced today by Flooring Adventures. Designed for use by aircraft owners and aircraft homebuilders in hangers, workshops, basements, garages and other areas, Tuff-Seal interlocking tiles utilize a patented, hidden interlock system to create a secure, watertight and virtually seamless flooring surface. The tiles reduce noise, insulate subfloors, reduce dust and humidity, and are more comfortable to stand and work on.

Richmond, VA, July 25, 2005-- Flooring Adventures today introduced its Tuff-Seal™ Aviation Flooring line at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2005 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Tuff-Seal tiles will not break, crack, deflect, loosen or shift even under heavy loads, do not require frequent repair or replacement, yet can be easily removed and re-laid in other areas. Tuff-Seal has a lower life-cycle cost than such flooring alternatives as epoxy coatings and rigid plastic tiles.

Flexible Tuff-Seal is easily installed over existing or uneven floors, cracks and stains with an “overlap-and-tap” process that needs no adhesive or subfloor prep. Once in place, it is watertight and will not support mold and mildew.

Backed by a five-year warranty, Tuff-Seal resists aviation fluids, abrasion, indentations, fire and water. It meets ADA slip-resistance recommendations and ASTM specifications for F-1700 solid vinyl tile, is 100% recyclable, easy to maintain and helps meet LEED criteria. Since Tuff-Seal tiles are generally not adhered to the subfloor, their cost may be fully deductible in the first year.

Tuff-Seal tiles are 18” x 18” (450 mm x 450 mm), ¼” (6.5 mm) thick, weigh 3.5 pounds (1.55 kg) and available in four surface profiles (stud, marquis, diamond and smooth) and nine colors (blue, red, teal, taupe, black, light gray, dark gray, white and canvas). Tuff-Seal Prime is made of virgin PVC and Tuff-Seal Recycled is made of premium-grade 100% post-industrial recycled PVC.

About Fossil Marble

Fossil Marble is quarried from the ancient seabeds of the prehistoric Paleo-Tethys and Tethys seas, now known as the Sahara desert. It is characterized by the distinctive, visible and completely naturally occurring presence of fossilized prehistoric marine life forms, known as orthoceras and ammonites, throughout the stone. Within each color, the figures of orthoceras appear as rocket or spaceship- or spear-like elongated cylindrical shapes. Ammonites can be identified by their circular nautilus-shaped spiral-esque forms. Physical and mechanical properties of fossil marble make it a premium selection for commercial or residential interior and exterior design, building, remodeling and renovation projects where an unforgettable visual effect is desired.

Previous Recognition

The Fossil Marble Ancient Seabed Collection from Maison Sijilmassa received a “Top 100 Building Products Award” from Building Products magazine, the “what’s hot” product source considered most valuable by industry professionals, by placing 57th out of 2,700 total products up for the award. Industry trackers and editors at Hanley-Wood Design Group publishers analyze trends and reader response rate to develop the most up-to-date decision-makers’ must-have product list each year.

Prior to receiving the “Top 100” award, Maison Sijilmassa’s Collection received recognition as one of the industry's “Hot Stones” by Stone Magazine, the leading trade publication for specifiers, fabricators and suppliers of dimensional stone. It was one of only five stones hand-picked from around the globe for this annual distinction.

PMR Report: Impressive Growth in the CEE Construction Sector

According to a report just released by PMR, in 2005-2006 the construction market of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) will expand at an impressive annual pace of 8-10%. Robust sector performance will be posted by all countries in the region, though Russia stands before the best development prospects.

(PRWEB) July 25, 2005 -- The Polish consulting and research company PMR has published a new report, “The construction sector comparative analysis 2005-2006: the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Russia”. The study analyses the condition of the construction market in the region of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).

In the report CEE is defined as Russia, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

According to the PMR report, the CEE construction market will expand by more than €32bn in the next two years to total €109bn at the end of 2006. Naturally, Russia as the region’s largest construction market with an estimated value of ca. €41bn, is nearly 14% bigger than all the remaining CEE markets put together. According to PMR’s projections, its size advantage will shrink slightly in the next two years to 12% as at the end of 2006. Poland is home to the second largest CEE construction market. Remarkably, despite the fact that the Czech Republic and Hungary have similar populations, the former has a more than 70% larger construction market than the latter (based on 2004 data). PMR forecasts that in the next two years the Czech advantage will deepen further. As at the end of 2006, Russia will continue to be the largest construction market in the CEE with Poland remaining in second place.

In 2005 2006, the individual construction markets will develop at an average annual rate of 8 11%. In the opinion of PMR analysts, such sizeable and stable growth means that the sector is at the start of an uptrend. The sector will experience growth not posted in years, particularly in Poland, where construction output has seen a downtrend in recent years (in 2001 2004 average annual changes in construction output sold ranged from -8% to 2%). Yet, PMR analysts point out that, in contrast to construction industry development in recent past, there will not be any significant variations in the rates at which the individual construction markets will expand in the near future.
The upcoming years will bring most decisive growth to the Russian construction market: average annual growth of close to 11%. At the same time Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary will see their markets expand at around 9-10% per annum.

According to PMR, in the next few years the following factors will be most material to the dynamic development of the construction markets in the individual countries of the CEE region:
• Civil engineering construction development, particularly dynamic in new EU member countries, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary. Fuelled by an influx of EU funds, the bulk streamlined to the engineering construction sector to finance the construction and modernisation of the national road and rail infrastructures. Underdeveloped road network and a lack of modern connections and below-standard road quality creates an opportunity for civil engineering to become the powerhouse of the entire construction industry in the near future, not only in Russia but in the entire CEE region.
• Residential construction development, which when compared with the EU states is below standard in the Czech Republic, Poland, Russia and Hungary both in terms of quantity and quality of available housing. This opens a window of opportunity, particularly for construction companies specialising in renovation work. Furthermore, the CEE countries trail much behind the EU-15 in home completion statistics. This is also an area for sizeable prospects for construction companies, especially within the context of the noticeable housing deficit prevailing over the entire CEE region.
• Non-residential construction market will also contribute towards growth in the construction sector, though less than the above segments. “Though the CEE countries are no longer offering as attractive rates of return on capital invested in non-residential construction than even a couple of years ago, the sector will continue to expand with dynamism, especially in Russia. Nevertheless, its percentage share in the value of the total construction market is in for a marked drop,” Marzena Opalinska, PMR analyst, concluded.

Though the above trends hold true for all countries in the region, there are obvious differences among the individual construction markets. What makes each unique is the subject of analysis in individual construction market reports on the Czech Republic, Poland, Russia and Hungary, which PMR has also recently released.
According to PMR, the key features of the CEE construction markets are:
• The Russian construction market is in many ways underdeveloped in comparison to its counterparts not just in the EU but also in the CEE region. The country has serious deficits in housing, modern non-residential construction as well as civil engineering construction. Concurrently, the percentage share of the construction industry in the Russian GDP stands highest in the CEE region. The country’s prospects for future development in construction industry are best from among all analysed countries.
• The Polish construction industry has been amidst a crisis in recent years. Yet there have been signs of a gradual improvement since 2003. More is being invested in the sector and more construction permits are being issued for residential buildings. This translates into higher sales for construction companies. Poland has sizeable deficits both in housing and – especially – in infrastructure. The latter segment stands to benefit the most from the greater inflow of EU funds and, thus, will continue to be the main engine behind the expansion of the Polish construction market.
• The Czech Republic has the most developed construction market in the CEE region. The per capita value of sold construction is highest among the CEE neighbors as is worker productivity in the sector. The Czech Republic is also at the statistical forefront in motorway quality, quantity of modern office space per capital-city resident, as well as in availability of basic utilities at homes. Nevertheless, the Czech construction market is still a field of great opportunity for construction companies, inter alia in residential construction sector.
• The Hungarian construction market leads the region in terms of new housing. It may boast of more per capita home completions than any other country in the region. It has the most developed housing loan and mortgage system and the best construction permit statistics in the region. At the same time, in the last couple of years the situation in the sector has been very unstable, with sizeable fluctuations in data on sold construction output. Yet, this market holds great potential since the percentage share of the construction sector in the GDP is the lowest in the CEE region, significantly below the EU averages.

To summarize, the PMR report speaks of impressive prospects for future development of the CEE construction market. According to its authors, the current condition of the residential, non-residential and engineering construction sectors in the analyzed countries is in many ways below that of the developed construction markets of the EU 15. For this reason, future of the CEE construction market looks very good, better than for the EU.

Gridlogix selected by Washington National Cathedral

Gridlogix, Inc., a leading creator of enabling interoperable Web Services technology today announced the completion of an automation controls integration project for the Washington National Cathedral. Gridlogix’s EnNET® CMC (Centralized Monitoring and Control) application for integrating disparate control systems and smart devices was selected by the Cathedral to provide a bi-directional control interface between no less than four automation systems, each one using a different network protocol.

St. Louis, MO. (PRWEB) July 25, 2005 -- Gridlogix, Inc., a leading creator of enabling interoperable Web Services technology today announced the completion of an automation controls integration project for the Washington National Cathedral. Gridlogix’s EnNET® CMC (Centralized Monitoring and Control) application for integrating disparate control systems and smart devices was selected by the Cathedral to provide a bi-directional control interface between no less than four automation systems, each one using a different network protocol.

Alan Solomon, Facilities Engineer, has the unique challenge of managing the Cathedral complex that covers 57 acres, took 83 years to construct and was funded entirely by voluntary donations. “Like any organization we have very tight budgets and are always expected to do more with less,” comments Alan. “Our budget wouldn’t allow us to replace our older systems, but we wanted to integrate them to one common platform of our choice to be used for centralized monitoring and control. EnNET CMC brought it all together and enabled me to have complete control at my desktop.” Alan adds, “EnNET is a very easy to use application. We liked the fact it didn’t need special customization to meet our needs.”

EnNET allowed Solomon to integrate Novar Controls, AutomatedLogic, Power Measurement Ltd. (PML) meters and Delta Controls with Delta’s ORCAweb server application acting as the centralized monitoring and control application. Some of the goals for this project included:
• Improved energy management by utilizing real-time energy usage data to initiate control systems response
• Vendor independence by adopting an open integration standard framework
• Common user interface for all building control systems regardless of manufacturer or protocols
• Real-time integration with other enterprise applications using EnNET’s Web Services interface

Custom Garage Interiors™ Proves it’s got What Dreams Are Made Of - New Trends Help to Create Unlikely 'Dream' Rooms at the 18th Annual Seattle Street of Dreams

Custom Garage Interiors™ (formerly Garage Doctor), knows that beautiful, organized garages are not easy to come by. To conquer the traditional lackluster rooms in the house Custom Garage Interiors™ teams up with several Seattle Street of Dreams builders to create customized 'dream' garages and workshops for the 2005 event.

Woodinville, WA (PRWEB) July 23, 2005 –- Custom Garage Interiors™ teams up with several Seattle Street of Dreams builders to create customized “dream” garages and workshops for the 2005 event.

“It’s great to be able to showcase the latest and greatest products in these beautiful new homes,” says Kurt Geffe, President of Custom Garage Interiors™. “The Seattle Street of Dreams stands for quality and innovation in the residential marketplace and our focus is to provide high quality, innovative products for residential garages, so this is a natural fit for us. We are truly excited to be involved in such a spectacular event.”

Custom Garage Interiors (CGI) begins the magic with the first house on the tour, Aston Villa, built by Cramer Construction. This remarkable home has a three-car garage on the main level with a two-car garage/showroom on the lower level.

To achieve the desired look in the main garage, CGI installed Dynotile™ - a new, durable interlocking floor tile. The tiles were installed in a checkerboard configuration using Dynotile’s Obsidian and Slate colors. To accommodate plenty of work and storage space, CGI then added Onrax™ overhead storage racks and Gladiator™ work benches and cabinets. As part of the display in the lower level garage, a.k.a. “Ultimate Playroom,” Dynotile™ was set in the same checkerboard layout with Obsidian and Sahara colored tiles to complement the existing room décor.

Heading down the street to the exquisite Tamarack Lodge, built by The Redman/CJ Design & Construction Company, show-goers will find the handiwork of Custom Garage Interiors again in the three car garage featuring Onrax™ adjustable height overhead storage units.

And, just two more houses down at the magnificent Kaslo estate, builder JT Construction Management utilizes two of the industrial strength 4’x8’ Onrax™ storage units and a Dynotile™ floor in the workshop, plus three additional overhead racks in the main garage to keep stored items up and out of the way.

Last, but certainly not least, toward the end of the block Dynotile™ outfits a completely different type of space in the charming classic “Chatham House,” built by Parmenter Homes. The Make a Wish theme room in Chatham House is an exercise room endorsed by the Seattle Seahawks and Matt Hasselbeck.

The room comes fully equipped with training equipment and a custom Dynotile floor in Platinum and Arctic blue colors to accentuate the Seahawks motif. The securely interlocked tiles provide a tough, bacteria-resistant floor system that will keep the dirt, sweat and tears on top of the surface for easy cleaning.

(PRWEB) July 23, 2005 -- One of only seven Welsh companies recognised at this years prestigious ceremonial luncheon event in Cardiff sponsored by Royal Mail, South-Wales based Benfield ATT, the Timber Frame firm headed by industry expert Professor Michael Benfield, picked-up its second Big Tick Award – the prestigious awards endorsement – in the Impact on Society for a Small Company category.

Masonry Contractors in Contract Dispute with California Bricklayers

Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers call for a strike against members of the contractors association.

Oakland, CA (PRWEB) July 22, 2005 -- On July 14, 2005, the Northern California Masonry Contractors Association sent a letter to the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) Local 3 Union announcing they are cutting off contract negotiations and would lock out all member employees of BAC Local 3 if BAC engaged in a strike against any contractor association member.

Since the contractors were not willing to continue to negotiate, BAC decided to call a strike against members of the contractors association on July 14, 2005, in an effort to get them to return to negotiations.

BAC Local 3 Bricklayers of Northern California have been working without a contract since July 1, 2005. Contract negotiations began May 25, 2005 with the Masonry Contractors Association and the process has faced a few delays. Some of the delays included documents that contained omissions without notation and a misquote of the Industrial Wage Order 16-2001.

Due to an incident on June 9, 2005 the negotiations were further delayed. The incident was severe enough to cause the Alameda County Superior Court to issue an injunction. The Ralph Civil Rights Act, Civil Code section 51.7 "provides that all persons within this state have the right to be free from violence committed against themselves or their property because of their … position in a labor dispute."

A presentation by BAC Local 3 was eventually made on June 15, 2005, which included forecasts on economics and employment for the brick and construction industry of California. The projections indicate there will be approximately $60 billion in construction and 1,000 new bricklayers needed. Data sources included: the California Five Year Infrastructure Plan, published by the California Department of Finance; Project Labor Agreement data compiled from Construction and Building Trade Councils; various articles and publications that substantiate a surge in construction growth, such as a study from the University of the Pacific and various realty advisor groups;
