David T. Biggs Named Honorary Member of National Civil Engineering Society

A Troy engineer will accept Honorary Membership to the American Society of Civil Engineers.

(PRWEB) October 12, 2005 -- Ryan-Biggs Associates, P.C., a consulting firm specializing in structural engineering, announced today that David Biggs, Principal, was named an Honorary Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Aside from being elected President of ASCE, honorary membership is the highest status a member can achieve. Honorary Membership is comprised of only 183 members worldwide. Founded in 1852, the American Society of Civil Engineers represents more than 137,000 civil engineers worldwide and is the oldest national engineering society.

Biggs is recognized for his advancement of structural masonry engineering through innovative design and restoration, code development, and his willingness to share his knowledge through service and contributions to the public. He has also made considerable contributions to codes, standards, and guidelines in the area of masonry design and construction.

Biggs has over 30 years of experience as a structural engineer in private practice. He holds civil engineering degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and has taught as an adjunct professor. He has served as national director of the American Society of Civil Engineers and currently serves on the committee to develop standards for masonry construction in the United States. He was also a member of the Building Performance Assessment Team that investigated the collapse of the World Trade Center. Mr. Biggs has authored numerous papers focusing on masonry design and restoration and is a frequent lecturer at universities, professional seminars, and conferences in the United States and overseas. He is a registered professional engineer in New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky.

He will be honored on October 28, 2005, at ASCE’s annual Civil Engineering Conference in Los Angeles, California.
