Citizens, Legislators and Experts to Convene at Quiet Pavement Meeting
Meeting in Bellevue, WA to showcase rubberized pavement as noise mitigation solution.
Bellevue, WA (PRWEB) October 28, 2005 -- Eastside Citizens For Responsible Development (ECRD) is hosting a community presentation about the use of Rubberized Asphalt (RA) - also known as "Quiet Pavement" - which has been proven to reduce road noise for communities close to freeways in other areas of the country. The presentation will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2005 at Bellevue City Hall.
“The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has finally agreed to test RA Quiet Pavement in 2006, but will not say when or where,” said Walter Scott, who organized the meeting. “Our concern is that this test could last as long as a decade. This would effectively deny Washington residents the outstanding benefits of this proven technology.”
This test would provide statistics on RA Quiet Pavement's proven noise mitigation capabilities and also on the environmentally sound use of excess/waste rubber tires - which uses 1,000 discarded tires per lane mile.
The use of RA Quiet Pavement is a legislative requirement in Arizona and California and has been in use in these states for 13 years, with stellar results. The Federal Highway Administration does not yet recognize RA Quiet Pavement as a noise mitigation technique and continues to use only noise walls, which are cost prohibitive, and in many cases, such as where bridges or steep slopes are involved, neither practical nor effective.
ECRD believes many local freeways and arterials would greatly benefit from the use of this RA product in both new and overlay projects.
Presenters at this Saturday’s meeting will include materials experts from the Arizona Department of Transpiration and/or California Department of Transportation. Also invited are all members of the community, local elected officials, and WSDOT.
Date: October 29, 2005
Where: Bellevue City Hall, 11511 Main Street
Time: 10:00 a.m.

Silanis Technology, the industry’s most experienced electronic signature provider with more than two million users and consumers in business and government, announced today that Tommy Petrogiannis will present at the upcoming 2005 International Air Transportation Association e-freight conference in Geneva, Switzerland. The objective of the conference is to promote greater efficiency in air cargo shipment processes by moving to an industry-wide, simpler, electronic paper-free environment. Mr. Petrogiannis’ session will showcase how electronic signature technology eliminates the last hurdle in achieving paperless freight processes.
(PRWEB) October 28, 2005 -- Silanis Technology, the industry’s most experienced electronic signature provider with more than two million users and consumers in business and government, announced today that Tommy Petrogiannis will present at the upcoming 2005 International Air Transportation Association e-freight conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
According to IATA, 20 years ago it took 6.5 days, on average, to send a shipment internationally. Despite numerous advances in the transportation industry, today it still takes 6.0 days -- 1 day to fly, 5 days to wait for the paper. “This statistic clearly illustrates that paperwork is the major bottleneck. And while automation has the potential to eliminate the unnecessary delays, risk, and expense inherent in traditional paper-based freight processes” says Mr. Petrogiannis. “These benefits can not be realized as long as documents must be printed whenever a signature is required.”
The IATA eFreight initiative has the support of the top industry executives including Ram Menen, Senior Vice President Cargo, Emirates, “The only way we can combat costs is to bring in better efficiencies that will enhance productivity. Electronic transactions will not just save the world from inefficiencies of physical paper pushing and associated red tape, but will also create better transparency and speedy real-time processing spanning the entire supply chain.”
For over a decade, Silanis’ electronic signature solutions have enabled other industries, from financial services to government, to achieve these goals by automating the secure transmission, review and signing of documents. At the same time, they produce reliable and auditable business records required to demonstrate compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards and organizational policies.
Mr. Petrogainnis’ presentation will introduce attendees to the concepts and issues surrounding electronic signatures including terminology, solution requirements and functionality. Participants will leave this session better equipped to begin defining their eFreight approval automation needs.

How Much Security is Enough? The First in a New Series of e-Signature Whitepapers from Silanis
Silanis Technology, the industry’s most experienced electronic signature provider, with more than two million consumers and users in business and government, today released a new whitepaper through its online resource center. Entitled “Security in Electronic Documents and Signatures”, the whitepaper addresses one of the greatest sources of confusion for organizations tasked with assessing their electronic signature requirements – identifying the appropriate level of security for the targeted business process.
(PRWEB) October 26, 2005 -- Silanis Technology, the industry’s most experienced electronic signature provider, with more than two million consumers and users in business and government, today released a new whitepaper through its online resource center. Entitled “Security in Electronic Documents and Signatures”, the whitepaper addresses one of the greatest sources of confusion for organizations tasked with assessing their electronic signature requirements – identifying the appropriate level of security for the targeted business process.
“The main reason why organizations move their document signing processes into an electronic environment is to make them more efficient; however, the exact opposite sometimes occurs,” says Michael Laurie, co-founder and vice-president of Silanis Technology. “Some companies end up making the electronic process even more complex and difficult to use because they set a higher standard for security than is normally required with paper.”
The reason for this, according to Laurie, is based on a common misconception that electronic signing increases the risk of fraud and therefore requires more security.
“Organizations have the tendency to focus their electronic signature initiative on implementing technologies that authenticate users, when in reality they already have most, if not all, of the security measures in place to establish the identity of its signers,” says Laurie.
The whitepaper defines the many forms of user authentication that exist today, such as personal information verification (PIV) and credentials, while emphasizing that they are not necessarily methods of electronic signing.
“Signing is the expression of intent to approve, authenticate or agree with the information in a document. It requires a specific action, such as clicking on a button or entering a password,” explains Laurie. “An electronic signature solution must reliably capture and reproduce that intent, while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards and policies.”
The whitepaper also addresses security as it applies to documents, signatures, transactions, information privacy and authoritative copies. The whitepaper can be accessed by visiting Silanis’ electronic signature resource center located at:
http://www.silanis.com/site/resource_center/index.php or http://www.silanis.com/site/corporate/whitepapers.php

Speedheat® Offering Limited Distributor Opportunities for New RugBuddy™ Product — The Only UL-Listed Portable Heating Mat for Use Under Area Rugs
Speedheat®, a world leader in the radiant floor heating industry, is seeking distributors for RugBuddy™ -- the only UL-listed portable heating mat approved for use under area rugs. RugBuddy is like an electric blanket for your floor and turns regular area rugs into invisible space heaters. This one-of-a-kind product not only improves comfort, but also helps save energy.
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) October 26, 2005 -- Competition in the flooring and rug industries is intense, however having unique products to offer customers can help boost sales and increase profits. One such new product is RugBuddy™ — a one-of-a-kind portable heating mat that turns regular area rugs into invisible space heaters. Like an electric blanket for your floor, RugBuddy is the ideal solution for warming cold spots in any room of a home or office.
“RugBuddy is an easy add on sale in a flooring store or rug gallery,” says Peter Newman, President of Speedheat US. “This product is the only UL-listed portable radiant heating mat for use under area rugs in the world, so it is truly unique in the marketplace. With customers wanting to increase comfort and cut energy costs this winter season, RugBuddy makes great retailing sense.”
A world leader in the radiant floor heating industry, Speedheat® manufactures RugBuddy and is currently looking for a limited number of quality distributors in the US. Interested parties may contact Peter Newman at 1-888-WARM-FLOOR for more information.
“We are offering a truly risk free proposition for select retailers in America,” explains Pieter Jansens, Chairman of Speedheat International, “because we stand behind the product 100% and offer generous 40% margins for resellers. We want to create a positive partnership and give our distributors a unique edge, so we will be limiting opportunities in major markets.”
By gently warming from the ground up and allowing heat to naturally rise, RugBuddy takes advantage of the many benefits of radiant heating. You simply place the heating mat under your area rug and insert the GFCI protected plug into the wall. The incredibly thin electric radiant heating blanket heats up in less than 20 minutes. One 5.5 x 8 foot, 470-watt heating panel can warm a 10 x 10 foot room, helping increase your comfort while lowering your energy bills.
RugBuddy is guaranteed safe no matter what type of floor covering is under your area rug (stone, tile, wood, laminate, vinyl, cork, or carpet). The ultra thin floor heating mat is a mere 1/16” and consists of Generation4™ looped heating coils, sandwiched between two layers of polyester. The full-surround ground screen and GFCI protection provide absolute electrical safety and a fully effective EMR and RF shield. The RugBuddy area rug heaters have undergone rigorous testing and are UL-listed and NEC compliant. The electric under rug heating blankets feature integrated GFCI plugs, can be placed on a timer, are waterproof and are safe to the touch, even at their highest settings.
The ability of RugBuddy portable heating mats to warm from the ground up produces evenly heated rooms that are more comfortable at lower temperatures, allowing users to reduce traditional thermostat settings; thus saving energy and lowering heating costs. Radiant heating also helps allergy sufferers by reducing the levels of dust, pollen, mold, and other environmental pests spread by conventional forced air heating systems making your home a healthier place to live.
RugBuddy plug ’n’ play heaters were specifically designed to solve zone heating problems without the expense or mess of adding additional ductwork, baseboard heating units or dangerous portable space heaters. Since the electric heating panels are hidden under the rug, they are virtually invisible and completely safe unlike traditional space heaters that can tip over and start a fire.
RugBuddy heating panels are available in five energy efficient sizes:
Extra Large: 470-watt, 5.5 x 8 foot
Large: 370-watt, 5 x 7 foot
Medium: 165-watt, 3 x 5 foot
Runner: 165-watt, 2 x 7.5 foot
Small: 65-watt, 3 x 2 foot (perfect for under your desk in your office)
RugBuddy portable, plug-in, under rug heaters can be ordered online at www.speedheat.us.
For more information about distributor opportunities, please contact Peter Newman at 1-888-WARM-FLOOR or visit www.speedheat.us

Thierry Francois' Custom Scagliola Stone Show House with Stone Age Designs
Stone Age Designs announces that no other home in the U.S. has more Scagliola custom stone than the home of Designer Thierry Francois. Exterior and Interior scagliola stone accents as a wonderful option to substitute cast stone accent, custom stone pedestals, Scagliola stone fireplace mantels and custom stone kitchen hoods make this French home unique.
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) October 26, 2005 -- Stone Age Designs announces that no other home in the U.S. has more Scagliola custom stone than the home of Designer Thierry Francois. Exterior and Interior scagliola stone accents as a wonderful option to substitute cast stone accent, custom stone pedestals, Scagliola stone fireplace mantels and custom stone kitchen hoods make this French home unique.
Stone Age Designs is the annual host to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra as they bring music and art, composers and designers together for this annual event surrounded by the antique beauty of Scagliola Stone. Thierry Francois' Scagliola Stone Show House at 225 West Paces Ferry gives a unique sense of European flavor for this event.
Scagliola dates back to the 17th Century when it was first created by Italian Monks near the Italian city of Capri. Creating Scagliola Stone is a technique of blending and inlaying marble powders and pigments producing a marble-like surface that resembles a painting while the designs can range from classic to modern.
The original Scagliola can be found today in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, and the Riche Chapel, Munich dating back to 1603. Today, the Scagliola of the Renaissance is used in more than palaces; Scagliola is used to enhance the antique beauty of the home with a special focus on Stone Fireplace Mantels, http://www.stoneagedesigns.net/mantels, and Stone Kitchen Hoods, http://www.stoneagedesigns.net/kitchen as well as Scagliola Columns, and Pedestals.
Scagliola Stone created by Stone Age Designs uses a secret recipe of Thierry Francois. New techniques blend more than crushed marble as Francois has added limestone, and travertine to produce custom stone fireplace mantels, stone mantels, as well as custom stone kitchen hoods to substitute cast stone kitchen hoods that are not nearly as costly as hand-carved stone and still special like those.
The Scagliola of Stone Age Designs is easy to use, easy to install, and the design possibilities are limited only to the imagination. Stone Age Designs’ Scagliola has the look and feel of hand-carved quarry stones and the elegance of the Italian Renaissance.
There are two other major design differences in Stone Age Designs’ Scagliola. “Our technique allows us the flexibility to hand-carve our Scagliola for very special projects, and our exclusive technique provides a sense of old-world elegance because it is layered, giving it the look of authentic custom stone.”
“We have so much artistic freedom today,” says Francois because “we can create what we see in the mind’s eye with the molds we create or from the designs of the past. We can also work from CAD drawings to create one-of-a-kind pieces in our own precious Scagliola Stone.”
Francois added, “this is one of the reasons we created the Scagliola Stone Show House with more Scagliola custom stone than any other home in the U.S. so that we would be able to showcase Scagliola designs of today exclusively from Stone Age Designs.”
Visit Stone Age Designs at http://www.stoneagedesigns.net/ and see the beautiful Scagliola Stone Collection of Thierry Francois, and you will find a one of a kind Showcase for Stone Fireplace Mantels and Surrounds, Stone Kitchen Hoods, Stone Stove Hoods, Stone Accents, Arches, Columns, Pedestals, and Statues. Commercial Architects and Residential Architects are moving to Stone Age Designs’ Scagliola for Stone Fountains, Moldings, Spiral Staircases, Walls, and even Waterfalls.

First Class Space for Science
It’s not every building supplier that can design, deliver and fit out a new building complex in just six weeks. In fact, in the case of the new science block for Akeley Wood Senior School in Buckingham, Portakabin was the only company willing to take on the job.
(PRWEB) October 26, 2005 -- Two weeks before the end of the summer term at the school, an explosion caused by an underground gas leak had devastated the science laboratories. The fire occurred during the night, destroying four laboratories and a preparation room.
The school was able to continue the term’s remaining science lessons in existing accommodation, but needed to find a way to get high-quality, fully operational science labs built and ready for lessons, before students returned in the autumn.
The insurance company quickly confirmed that a complete new science complex had to be built. The architect appointed by the insurance loss adjustor was aware of Portakabin’s excellent reputation in the education sector, and it quickly emerged that Portakabin was the only company able to commit to the tight timescales of the project.
The Portakabin Customer Charter provided the assurance that the company could meet the deadline. This unique Charter promises that Portakabin will deliver buildings on time and on budget. If the company ever fails to do this, it pledges to provide a week’s free hire for every day it is late.
Within two days of the explosion, the school was delighted to receive a full initial costing from Portakabin. Working closely with the school, Portakabin selected a suitable location and designed a science block that would meet the school’s precise requirements.
The new block included four laboratories and a preparation room, as well as two storage areas. The building was accessed by a ramp, and fitted with heating and a climate control system, all provided by Portakabin. The company was able to accommodate the specific requirements of a science teaching area by supplying non-slip flooring, acid-resistant worktops, fire-resistant storage facilities and even a secure cupboard for storing radioactive materials.
A timescale was drawn up by Portakabin for delivering, installing and equipping the buildings before the end of the summer holidays. The buildings were duly delivered on the agreed date and were connected to all services and fitted out with everything from sinks to gas taps in time for the arrival of the students in September.
“I was amazed that Portakabin managed to do so much in such a short timescale,” says Bursar, Clive Martin. “All along I’d had doubts that everything could be completed in time, but I was very impressed by Portakabin’s positive approach to meeting the promised completion date.
“People returning after their holidays were really impressed by the standard of accommodation we had been able to put in place. It was quite a complex project too,” he adds. “Portakabin took care of everything and managed the whole project, which means we now have a very high quality science teaching block to replace the damaged facilities.”

Northwest Iowa Architectural Salvage Company Rescues Vintage Woodwork and Old House Parts
A family effort is being made by Northwest Iowans to recover vintage woodwork and old house parts from buildings slated for destruction. Once these treasures are diverted from flames or landfills, they are made available for sale.
PAULLINA, Iowa (PRWEB) October 26, 2005 -- Because the number of family farms has diminished, the number of unoccupied old farm houses has increased. ND MillWerk Salvage and Sales recognized the beauty and durability of vintage woodwork, old hardware and antique architectural components in many of these deteriorating buildings. Says co-owner Nelda Werkmeister, “I hate to see anything go to waste.”
Through their efforts in Paullina, Iowa, in the heart of the Midwestern Plains, new items like beveled glass doors and colonnade cabinets are saved from destruction and sold for restoration projects, additions to vintage homes, and to folks who want the quality and workmanship of the early 1900’s.
Prices of new wood products often stop homeowners from including detailing such as crown molding, picture and chair rail, even a classic staircase or wainscoting. Door and window caps, wide baseboard with decorative corner posts and blocks, as well as hardwood flooring, are just a few of the fine architectural enhancements often found in homes and schools built between 1890 and 1930. Vintage woodwork becomes an affordable alternative to modern construction features.
After obtaining the salvage rights, ND MillWerk Salvage and Sales carefully removes the reusable wood, hardware and other special features. These specials may include built-in hutches, columns, porch posts, and old heat registers. The treasured antiques are then moved to a warehouse in Paullina, Iowa, and sold as is.
Not only are used building materials brought to market, but tons of wood are diverted from landfills to instead extend its presence in architectural history. For more information, check out the company web site at www.oldwoodwork.com.

Motor Shaft Grounding Boosts Reliability Of HVAC/R Systems
The new AEGIS SGR™ Conductive MicroFiber™ Shaft Grounding Brush from Electro Static Technology improves the reliability of HVAC/R systems by dramatically extending motor life.
Mechanic Falls, ME (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) October 25, 2005 -- The new AEGIS SGR™ Conductive MicroFiber™ Shaft Grounding Brush from Electro Static Technology improves the reliability of HVAC/R systems by dramatically extending motor life. By protecting bearings from electrical damage for the life of the motor, the AEGIS SGR prevents bearing noise and costly motor repairs and downtime. It is ideal for OEM motor and fan manufacturers, repair shops, HVAC service contractors, and in-house maintenance departments and can be easily installed as part of a preventive maintenance program. Detailed technical information is available at www.est-aegis.com.
When AC motors, commonly used in HVAC/R systems to drive fans, air pumps, chillwater pumps, compressors, and other air-handling equipment, are employed with variable frequency drives (VFDs), currents are induced on the motor shafts. Without a grounding device, these currents typically discharge through the motor bearings, causing frosting, pitting, fusion craters, and fluting. This damage can lead first to noise that travels throughout a building’s ductwork, then to motor failure, and finally to failure of the entire HVAC/R system. By safely channeling harmful shaft current away from the motor bearings to ground, the SGR prevents electrical bearing damage, and the noise and motor failures it causes.
AEGIS SGR is easily installed by sliding the brush over either end of the motor shaft and locking it in place with simple screw-on mounting brackets. Because no machining is required, the SGR can be installed in minutes — even in the field.
Unlike conventional shaft grounding brushes, which wear out quickly and lose their effectiveness, AEGIS SGR’s conductive microfibers work with virtually no friction or wear and last for the life of the motor, with no RPM limitations. Maintenance-free, the AEGIS SGR is unaffected by dirt, grease, or other contaminants and provides the longest-lasting protection available.
The SGR is available in standard sizes to fit most AC motors ranging from 1 to 1500 HP with a full parts list available to download at www.est-aegis.com/sgr-chart.htm
Electro Static Technology is the global leader in the elimination and/or mitigation of induced electrical charges on rotating and moving surfaces. Electro Static Technology is a division of Illinois Tool Works (ITW), a $10 billion multinational conglomerate operating in 44 countries.

Woodworking is on the Rise with Women -- According to a Rockler Woodworking and Hardware Trend Update
A recent study by the Home Improvement Institute revealed that woodworking is becoming more popular with women. In fact, more women would rather work on their home than shop; and when it comes to home improvement projects, an increasing number of women are working with wood.
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) October 25, 2005 -- http://www.Rockler.com -- Rockler Woodworking and Hardware, one of the nation’s premier suppliers of specialty hardware, tools and other high-quality woodworking products, shares the findings of a recent marketing research study, revealing that more women would rather engage in a woodworking or home improvement project than ever before.
Put away the credit card and pick up the circular saw. That’s right. A recent study by the Home Improvement Research Institute suggests that more women would rather do a home improvement project than go shopping. And when it comes to home improvement, a growing number of women are tackling woodworking by building custom cabinets, book shelves and tables. Recent marketing research by Rockler Woodworking and Hardware reveals that one of the fastest growing trends in home improvement is women working with wood.
“There are close to four million American women woodworkers today,” said LiLi Rockler Jackson, Rockler Companies spokesperson, a talented young woodworker who is also the granddaughter of the company’s founder, Norton Rockler. “It’s a trend that is quickly rising as more and more single women become homeowners. Our own research shows that the majority of women who started woodworking in the past three years say they want to create something with their own hands for their own home. Women are drawn to working with wood because it’s a creative outlet that provides a gratifying sense of accomplishment.”
“I’m making something original I can’t buy anywhere else,” explained one respondent. “I woodwork to create items designed to fit my needs and personal style,” said another woman. “I challenge myself by creating a functional design and then being smart enough and skilled enough to build it,” said yet another woman.
According to well known do-it-yourselfer and cable television host JoAnne Liebeler, the sense of accomplishment experienced by women woodworkers is much of what’s fueling this phenomenon. “Women are realizing they can use power tools and build something amazing,” she said. “They see me handling a circular saw, and they think, ‘hey, if she can do it, I can do it, too.’ The fear factor has been replaced with a sense of empowerment.”
Rockler Companies’ marketing research suggests that, nearly one third undertake the pastime to create furniture. And while most women woodworkers create a wide variety of items, of those interviewed:
21 percent create craft items such as picture frames;
19 percent build storage items such as custom cabinets or shelving;
17 percent complete home improvement projects such as adding custom crown molding to a room; and
9 percent make children’s items such as dollhouses and wooden toys.
While a growing number of women are just starting out as woodworkers, Rockler Companies’ research suggests woodworking is a lifestyle, not just a hobby. In fact, more than 33 percent of those interviewed have been woodworking for more than five years. Research participants also indicated that, while nearly 24 percent of women who participated in the research said they first started woodworking as a way to improve their homes, yet found that they greatly enjoyed working with wood and power tools.
38 percent do woodworking at least once a week;
58 percent do woodworking at home in rooms or shops dedicated to woodworking; and
71 percent own their own tools, and the majority—42 percent—have spent more than $1,000 to date.
“Woodworking is an especially fun hobby because it results in a functional item,” said Rockler Jackson. “And we’re creating a legacy by building something that can be handed down through the generations.”
Rockler Companies first noticed a growing trend of women participating in woodworking nearly four years ago when it launched womeninwoodworking.com. Since then, female visitors to the web site have jumped 27 percent. “Our retail sales also showed the growth of the female market. Women were coming to our stores asking for advice on how to build cabinets or tables,” said Ann Rockler Jackson, the company’s CEO. “We realized that women woodworkers approach the craft differently than men. Women sometimes hesitate to ask how or why in a mixed group or in a workshop, but jump right in asking questions when talking with other women woodworkers. For many they want to test the waters first before jumping in with both feet. We launched womeninwoodworking.com in direct response to what women woodworkers wanted. It’s fascinating to see its growth.”
The increase in women woodworkers visiting Rockler’s stores and website corresponds to a national phenomenon. According to the National Association of Realtors, single women are the fastest growing group of home buyers and make up the second largest group of homebuyers after couples. According to the Association, the number of single female homeowners has doubled in the past 15 years.
“Combine that statistic with the fact that sales of home improvement products continue to rise in record numbers and this is a significant trend,” said the younger Rockler Jackson. “We believe this trend has been pushed by the popularity of do-it-yourself programs. Women are seeing other women using power tools to make attractive and functional new home furnishings. Suddenly, the intimidation factor that held many women back disappears. In fact, nearly 47 percent of those interviewed stated that they most often work with portable power tools, like sanders, routers, drill drivers, and jig saws. Thanks to do-it-yourself programs, ‘no way’ has been replaced with a ‘can do’ attitude that has helped to drive this trend.”

Lite-A-Switch™ Elegant Night Light Improves Hotel Guest Safety & Satisfaction While Lowering Energy Costs
Studies demonstrate that there are significant energy savings gained from installing energy efficient night light products such as the Lite-A-Switch elegant night light in hotel guest rooms. Studies also show that 16% of guests bring night lights with them during hotel stays. This demonstrates an opportunity for hotel owners to improve service levels and reduce liability in addition to realizing energy savings.
(PRWEB) October 25, 2005 -- Multiple studies have shown that one of the largest energy savings opportunities for hotel guestrooms is eliminating the unnecessary extended operation of bathroom lights. According to Sunbeam Hospitality and Andis Corporation about 45% of hotel guests leave the bathroom light on as a night light while they sleep. Research by the US Department of Energy has shown that products like the Lite-A-Switch (www.liteaswitch.com) permanent night light can reduce energy consumption by up to 50% providing payback in as little as 6 months (PIER Lighting Research Program Project 4.1).
Additionally independent studies show that guests want night lights located in hotel rooms. A WRA Research study found that 16% of travelers bring their own night light with them during a hotel stay. A few service oriented hotel organizations have already begun installing a LED night light solution in rooms to cater to this need.
The National Safety Council reports that most accidents occur in the bathroom and recommend night lighting for people over 50. Poor lighting is the 6th leading cause for accidents in the home and a major contributor to hotel room accidents. By following these recommendations and installing energy efficient night lights, like the Lite-A-Switch™ LED night light from Memorytime Inc. (www.memorytime.com) hotel owners can promote guest safety and reduce liability.
The Lite-A-Switch is a patent pending wall mounted night light that securely attaches to an outlet or switch. It uses six long-life LED’s to provide enough illumination to easily navigate in an unfamiliar room. The Lite-A-Switch mounts very much like a standard wall plate, making it subtle and easily incorporated into many room designs.
The Lite-A-Switch™ design allows for secure installation to any existing light switch or outlet plate in minutes making it permanent, kid friendly and appreciated by guests. Available in four different LED color choices, blue, green, pink and white, the Lite-A-Switch™ night light is an elegant and stylish way for hotels to reduce energy and injury costs. In addition to hotel rooms, the Lite-A-Switch can be installed in poorly lighted hall or entranceways. The Lite-A-Switch also serves as a reminder to turn off lights when the switch is installed on the outside wall of a room.

New Free Recruitment Service Connects Companies with Hispanic Blue-Collar, Labor and Service Employees
Latinohire.com is a new bilingual free recruitment service dedicated to providing businesses and households with a direct connection to the Hispanic blue-collar, non-professional, and service workforces. Latinohire.com has eliminated traditional supplemental recruitment agency usage by 90 percent for most businesses in Florida and California.
(PRWEB) October 24, 2005 -- Latinohire.com is a new bilingual free recruitment service dedicated to providing businesses and households in Florida and California with a direct connection to the Hispanic blue-collar, non-professional and service workforces.
Companies can post open positions at no cost – with free translation service from English to Spanish. Potential employees can also search and apply to listed jobs for free. Latinohire.com is poised to become the #1 Hispanic employment source in the nation as the service expands. Presently, the service provides companies in several states with free recruitment and a seamless technology solution - giving them a direct link to “non-professional” or labor workers - thus eliminating the need for costly recruitment companies and position are filled quickly.
In approximately 20 seconds, employers can post for free an online job description using an extensive list of templates. The posting is then automatically translated into Spanish. Once the postings are translated, job seekers may search the listings for free by either “State” or “Job Type.”
For job seekers lacking Internet access – Latinohire.com content is duplicated in the widely distributed free newspaper titled “Buena Chamba.” The newspaper is presently distributed in New York – and will follow in Florida and California in 4th quarter 2005. Sample job categories offered on Latino.com: Buena Chamba include auto-related, construction, domestic help, driver/delivery, factory/warehouse, handyman/odd jobs, office, restaurant/catering, retail/shops, and healthcare.
“Small to medium-sized businesses have been offering creative recruitment incentives and bonuses when they should be examining our free service,” said Eli Portnoy, CEO and founder of Latino Hire. “Latinohire.com has eliminated traditional supplemental recruitment agency usage by 90% for most businesses in Florida and California, while saving the job seeker approximately $150.00 to $500.00 by eliminating costly agency fees. It is a classic win-win situation. There is no capital expenditure, no IT cost, no new hardware or software associated with using Latinohire.com. Dealing with staffing agencies – whether for the Hispanic job seeker or the employer – requires numerous phone calls, a lot of stress waiting for call backs, language barriers, and ultimately wasted time and money. Latinohire.com is a far more organized and cost-effective method of hiring staff – it’s a one-stop shop.”
New York City-based Latinohire.com is the flagship product of Emerging Demographics, Inc. The company was founded by visionary entrepreneur Eli Portnoy who was born in Mexico City and came to the U.S. to attend the University of Pennsylvania. For more information visit www.latinohire.com.

American Youth Soccer Organization Chooses APSCREEN To Provide National Sex Offender Searches
The American Youth Soccer Organization has chosen APSCREEN, the world’s leading full-service Consumer Reporting Agency, to provide searches for national sex offenders to be included into AYSO’s background screening process.
Rancho Santa Margarita, California (PRWEB) October 24, 2005 -- The American Youth Soccer Organization has chosen APSCREEN, the world’s leading full-service Consumer Reporting Agency, to provide searches for national sex offenders to be included into AYSO’s background screening process. The AYSO, an affiliate member of the US Soccer Federation, now joins numerous organizations using this free service including the Girls Scouts of America.
Ellisa Hall, National Administrator for AYSO, “We are grateful for access to APSCREEN’s national sex offender registry. For the last 40 years, the AYSO has provided a safe, fair, fun sport experience for hundreds of thousands of youngsters all across the U.S. We take seriously the charge to protect players, volunteers and family members, and this valuable information provides one more critical layer to our Safe Haven Program.”
There is no registration or fee for the service and anyone who has a computer and access to the Internet and a web browser can use it. Should a person have any reason to suspect that someone in their neighborhood, school district or community might have a sex crime history they can go directly to www.nationalsexoffenderregistry.net and enter the name of the subject and have a good chance of locating information about a sex offender's history. Currently the database covers 34 states and 12 local areas for a total of 46 jurisdictions. Tom Lawson, CFE, CII & Founder of APSCREEN, comments, "We practically invented background checks over 25 years ago when few companies understood the need to screen prospective applicants. Now we want to give this free service back to the community because we feel so strongly about the protection and safety of our children. We mean it to be used in conjunction with other tools including other sites such as the FBI’s national sex offender registry and the Megan’s Law website provided by the California Attorney General’s office.”

"This store features the latest and greatest that Best Buy has to offer," said Brad Shepherd, New Store Opening Manager for Best Buy. Curt Hellen, Senior Project Manager for Bob Moore Construction, was very pleased with the store. “The building turned out beautifully and the stone veneer fits in seamlessly with the rest of the stores in the town center,” he said. “It was a pleasure to work with Kossman Development and the city of Mansfield, as well as the people at Best Buy. The whole project went very smoothly and right on schedule.”
The new Best Buy store is the latest addition to Mansfield Town Center West, a major north Texas shopping development that features well-known retail names like Cinemark USA, Washington Mutual Bank and Quiznos. Easaway Employees Learn the 'Fun' Way
Easaway Drain Care Ltd (Sub-Contractor to Leeds City Council) held a Pipe Re-line competition, designed to provide staff with the necessary skills to carry out a localised pipe repair and to re-illiterate the value of Teamwork.
(PRWEB) October 22, 2005 -- Leeds based Easaway, previously known as Eazyjet Drain Care, launched in 2000 and due to a dedicated work force has now become established as, a Drain Cleaning company that provides a 24- hour service across the Yorkshire region, offers extremely competitive rates and focuses strongly on customer service.
The competition took place at Easaway’s site amongst Drainage Engineers, Plumbers, Ground Workers and even Call Centre staff, who teamed up to perform the challenge.
The competition began with a Pipe-reline demonstration, performed by expert Walter Schofield from the Sewer Centre, who explained, “A pipe re-line saves both time and money, as it removes the need to excavate”
Then in true Generation Game style it was Easaway’s turn to have a go. Split into teams (red, green, blue, yellow and pink) participants were marked out of 10 on: Time taken, Teamwork and of course the Best re-line produced.
Winning the competition by two points were the Blue team, who were awarded £150 prize money for producing the best pipe re-line in the fastest time and demonstrating good communication skills throughout the exercise. The runners up prize went to the Pink team (the girls who work in Easaway’s Call Centre) although they were provided with a much smaller pipe to repair they still managed to thoroughly impress their male counterparts.
On the whole Walter added, “All the pipe re-lines produced today were of a satisfactory standard and would be very acceptable as real localised repairs”

Don’t Turn Up The Volume – Soundproof
Instead of turning up the volume to drown out loud noises – Soundproof. Soundproofing materials block sound and greatly reduce noise.
(PRWEB) October 21, 2005 -- Are the sounds of a thumping stereo, the rat-a-tat-tat of a construction zone, dogs barking or the ever-popular, me-e-e-ow regular sounds in your neighborhood? These noises and many more are irritating and distracting sounds. They invade your life and disturb your sleep, robbing you of your serenity. Instead of turning UP the volume to drown out those noises – Soundproof. Soundproofing materials block sound and greatly reduce noise. Now because of technical advances, soundproofing materials have become reasonably priced so that more people may take advantage of soundproofing benefits. Yes, you can actually soundproof your life.
Through the proper use and installation of soundproofing material, you can block noise out of your home, apartment, office, condo, restaurant, conference or baby’s room. The more sound transmission is blocked, the more effective the soundproofing.
One tried and true attack on noisy neighborhoods is the use of mass loaded vinyl barriers. Mass-loaded vinyl barriers block noise from entering the wall. The barrier is applied to studs or other structural points, and can be used as an underlay or overlay. Soundproofing barriers can be used on walls, ceilings, floors or around windows – wherever you want to block noise. The mass loaded vinyl barriers are made of heavy, thick weighted minerals, specially designed to stop sound. The heavier the barrier, the more sound it stops. Flexible, durable and wear-resistant, mass loaded vinyl barriers can tolerate temperature ranges from -44 to 255°F. These barriers are versatile and easily adaptable to construction and remodeling procedures.
For the most effective and maximum noise blocking, vinyl barriers should be installed as part of a wall composite. Only a few simple tools are required for installation and many homeowners will be able to undertake this project on their own. To determine how much vinyl barrier material is needed for your project, you will need your room dimensions.
Take care of neighborhood noises without alienating your neighbors and involving the authorities – let soundproofing block out the noise and restore your peace and quiet.
For more information on soundproofing barriers, contact a customer response representative at Windfall Sales: 717-369-5988 or go to the website http://www.soundproofing-barriers.com
