"What some consumers don't realize is that using high pressure water to clean historic structures like these can cause considerable damage and these memorials are made of stone. Just imagine how much damage can be caused to surfaces like wood decks and aluminum siding when using high pressure like 3,000 PSI on them," states Henry Bockman, the President of the PWNA Maryland state chapter. The PWNA sets the Standards for the pressure washing industry by offering rigorous training and certification programs that promote proper techniques, education and knowledge instead of just the use of a high-pressure blast.

The PWNA's Clean Across America campaign began years ago when members donated their services to local communities, parks, public aid programs, and other charity-based organizations. This volunteer program has tripled the value of donated services in the past two years. "CAA consists of a huge variety of projects. It isn't just about large high profile projects," states Mr. Bockman. "It's about one person making a difference in the world around them." CAA continues to gain momentum through highly visible projects to draw attention to the proper pressure washing techniques and standards set by the PWNA.

Other goals for the PWNA include expanding its training programs related to job safety and to promote education as the antidote to the damage caused by using improper excessive pressure often employed by less-experienced pressure washers.

This project is being coordinated by a small group of area pressure washers including James Merrill of Under Pressure Inc. (Baltimore, MD), John Ryan of Deck Protectors (Frederick, MD) and Henry Bockman of Henry's Housework (Germantown, MD), the founder of the PWNA's Clean Across America campaign and local resident of Germantown.

Equipment for the project was donated by:

Hydramotion Cleaning Systems in Bridgeport, PA Loaned the use of four specially designed Side Winder surface cleaning systems.
Pete Marentay of Sun Brite Supply in Atlanta, GA donated the use of high pressure hoses and equipment.
Jerry McMillen of Pressure Washer.net in El Cajon, CA donate a Sirocco water reclamation system
Keith Bruce of KBK Graphics Donated the Clean Across America Logo designs and graphic artwork.
Linda Bockman of Sun Brite Supply of Maryland, Gaithersburg, MD donated the use of high pressure hoses, pressure gauges and equipment.
Arthur Flax of Truck Graphics and Racks of Gaithersburg, MD donated the Clean Across America banner and other artwork.
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and Barens, Inc. will donate 2,500 linear feet of their specially designed SpiraFlow hose. This hose is designed to allow water to flow under the hose lines, and to assist the water reclamation equipment.

Graham, NC July 31, 2006 Carolina ProWash LLC of Graham, NC, a local power washing company specializing in exterior cleaning and enhancements, contributed their time and workers to the Home Builders Association of Burlington-Alamance as a part of the PWNA's Clean Across America Week. The team from Carolina ProWash cleaned the brick exterior of the newly constructed "Carraway Project" located at 624 Carraway Drive, Graham, NC.

Baltimore, MD - August 9, 2006 Under Pressure Inc of Baltimore, MD and Henry's Housework Inc of Germantown, MD will donate their services to the City of Hyattsville in to pressure wash the Hyattsville Elementary School and front sidewalk. Also slated to be pressure washed in Hyattsville is the large playground area on the West side of town to remove graffiti and surface dirt from years of use by local residents.

Germantown, MD – July 21, 2006 See Dirt Run! Inc. of Germantown, MD, a local power washing company specializing in wood restoration and wood preservation, will be contributing their time, workers, and materials to non-profit organization On Our Own, located in Gaithersburg, MD., during the week of July 24-31, 2006. The team from See Dirt Run! Inc. will clean and restore the wooden front porch and back deck located at 434 E. Diamond Ave., in Gaithersburg, MD. See Dirt Run! Inc. will wash the exterior wood surfaces using environmentally friendly cleaners. The company will then seal the exterior wood porch and deck to protect them against UV damage and the elements.

"Without out the dedication of top-notch contractors like these, projects like this just wouldn't be possible," states Everett Abrams, Vice President of PWNA. "These people make an outstanding effort every year to raise the awareness of professionalism in the power washing industry and to educate consumers on proper power washing standards." When the Clean Across America campaign was formally adopted by PWNA members a few years ago, the response from contractor members was overwhelming. Individual power wash companies from all over the nation began selecting projects in their communities. Some contractors prefer large, highly visible projects requiring lots of hours to complete but most participants opt for projects that can be completed in a single day.
