(PRWEB) May 31, 2007 -- A popular new forum thread on OldHouseWeb.com features user photos and stories of the ridiculous and often funny ways previous owners (POs) tried to save money repairing or renovating their homes. Titled "Stupid Previous Owner Money-Saving Ideas" (parts one and two), this popular forum thread serves as a sounding board of support for old-home owners (part one: http://www.oldhouseweb.com/newBB/topic-7663.shtml and part two: http://www.oldhouseweb.com/newBB/topic-9551.shtml). OldHouseWeb.com is a how-to site offering ideas, articles and resources to old-house enthusiasts and new home hunters seeking to take advantage of the prime house-buying season.
The thread started with a post from a homeowner in Greenville, N.C.: "I just noticed on someone's pictures that their PO had hung blinds that were too short leaving a gap at the top of the window (just like my PO did). Just for laughs, what are some of the silly things you all have found your POs did to save cash?"
Many homeowners replied by sharing their own PO experiences. A few of the best (or worse) "Stupid PO Money Saving Ideas" responses include:
Since were redoing the kitchen counters, took the extra Formica and walled the shower with it. That was over 10 years ago. It's now completely water logged and rotting along the bottom.
put up plywood in the kitchen instead of scraping the wallpaper off.
I really enjoyed the plumbing job did on the waste line from the kitchen. I did not know that using a roll of masking tape to connect the PVC pipe to the cast iron was an approved method!
ran electricity out to the barn and other various outbuildings by burying indoor extension cords. Didn't even bother to electrical tape them together.
