The carrier supports the Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards' mission to identify and celebrate the next generation of role models by promoting academics and community involvement. Kathy Hirtz, M.D. turned aerobatic pilot, chooses Clarity Aloft™ Aviation Headset for safety and comfort

Kathy Hirtz, M.D. turned aerobatic pilot, chooses Clarity Aloft™ Aviation Headset for safety and comfort. Dr. Hirtz selected Aloft Technologies after experiencing the hearing protection and lightweight design of the Clarity Aloft headset at an air show in Puyallup, Washington.

(PRWEB) June 29, 2005 -- Kathy Hirtz, M.D. turned aerobatic pilot, chooses Clarity Aloft™ Aviation Headset for safety and comfort. Dr. Hirtz selected Aloft Technologies after experiencing the hearing protection and lightweight design of the Clarity Aloft headset at an air show in Puyallup, Washington.

Dr. Hirtz began her flying career as an aerobatic pilot in 2001 at the age of 48, and founded Wing Over Aerobatics, LLC, in Eugene, Oregon, offering aerobatic flights to students and the general public. In her Pitts S-2B, Dr. Hirtz endures positive six to negative three G forces when performing impressive gyroscopic maneuvers. She found that the Clarity Aloft headset offered the stable, lightweight design she needed when performing, and stated, “I feel like I don't have a headset on at all; it is a very free feeling.”

"We are happy to help Kathy Hirtz in her endeavors as a premier aerobatic pilot,” says Bill Waterman, President of Aloft Technologies. “Kathy knows how complex maneuvers in flight can affect her ability to hear accurately and move freely”

Dr Hirtz advocated that the Clarity Aloft headset’s passive noise reduction performed very well against the high-noise environment of her Pitts Special. “The noise reduction works very well. The engine noise is reduced but the sound quality is not changed like my active noise reduction (ANR) set,” Kathy reported, adding, “What I hear now sounds like a running engine not just noise.”

Kathy Hirtz can be seen performing with the Clarity Aloft Headset in her Pitts S-2B at the Northwest EAA Fly-In in Arlington, Washington, July 6 through July 10, and at other air shows in the Northwest this year. Representatives from Aloft Technologies will also be at the fly-in to demonstrate the headset.

Aloft Technologies has merged the most advanced technologies from the fields of hearing science, aviation communications, and audio performance into one aviation headset design. The Clarity Aloft Headset has performed beyond the expectations of aviation enthusiast’s worldwide and is considered the next generation of lightweight, noise canceling headset design.

QAD expands e-Learning offerings with IntraLearn XE Company chooses IntraLearn to address increased customer and employee training needs

IntraLearn Software Corporation, the world’s leading supplier of Microsoft technology-based e-Learning software applications, announced today an agreement with QAD Inc., a leading provider of enterprise applications for global manufacturers, to license IntraLearn XE. QAD chose IntraLearn XE to help them address increased customer and employee demand for a centralized e-Learning system that could measure and track user progress and course completion.

Northboro, MA (PRWEB) June 28, 2005 -- IntraLearn Software Corporation, the world’s leading supplier of Microsoft technology-based e-Learning software applications, announced today an agreement with QAD Inc., a leading provider of enterprise applications for global manufacturers, to license IntraLearn XE. QAD chose IntraLearn XE to help them address increased customer and employee demand for a centralized e-Learning system that could measure and track user progress and course completion.

In looking for an e-Learning system, it was important that the system not be a hosted solution, be highly scalable and feature rich and be able to manage content that was self-created, imported or repurposed from multiple sources. IntraLearn offered that in a single, turn-key system that was less expensive than other systems.

“Many of our customers needed to be able to verify training, so we needed to provide better tracking to support their needs” said Jim Kirkley, QAD’s Chief Technology Officer. “IntraLearn’s architecture supported multiple portals, which is important to us since we plan to offer customers the option to have their own custom portals.

“Our customers need to establish that users of our software are certified for compliance purposes, they also ask us to customize our existing eLearning courses so they can provide more relevant training. IntraLearn’s architecture supported multiple portals, which allowed us to provide custom learning environments to our customers, while keeping things simple from a system management perspective. The flexibility of the IntraLearn system has allowed us to attach a number of specialized reports to the system that provide our executives with the real time status of internal and external learning initiatives.”

Evan Lenson, IntraLearn Software Corp. vice president of business development said “We are very pleased to have been chosen by QAD to give them the e-Learning infrastructure that can manage the training needs of their employees, business partners and customers.”

About QAD:
QAD is a leading provider of enterprise applications for global manufacturing companies. QAD applications provide critical functionality for managing manufacturing resources and operations within and beyond the enterprise, enabling global manufacturers to collaborate with their customers, suppliers and partners to make and deliver the right product, at the right cost and at the right time. Southwest Airlines to Serve Fort Myers, Florida

Airline adds sixth Florida city to its route map.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) June 27, 2005 -- Southwest Airlines, the low-fare leader, solidified its Florida presence today by announcing service to Fort Myers, Fla., from Southwest Florida International Airport beginning in October 2005. Fort Myers will be Southwest's sixth Florida city. Fares and flight schedules will be announced next month.

"Fort Myers is a great addition to the Southwest Airlines Family, not only from a business standpoint, but from a Southwest Florida Customer standpoint as well," said Gary Kelly, Southwest's Chief Executive Officer. "Now, our Southwest Florida Customers have to look no further than their own backyard for Southwest's legendary low fares and great Customer Service."

With this announcement, Southwest Airlines continues to expand its commitment to the state of Florida. Southwest Florida International Airport will become Southwest's 61st airport systemwide. In Florida, Southwest currently serves Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa Bay, and West Palm Beach. Southwest Airlines is the largest intra-Florida carrier and transported more than 5.7 million Floridians in 2004.

"We are very excited about Southwest Airlines' decision to inaugurate service at Southwest Florida International Airport," said Robert M. Ball, A.A.E., Executive Director of the Lee County Port Authority. "We have been working closely with Southwest for many years and are pleased they have selected Southwest Florida as their newest destination. We are confident this partnership will be successful and know travelers will enjoy this exciting new service option."

Historically, when Southwest enters a new city, fares drop dramatically and demand for travel increases. The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) in a 1993 study described the phenomenon as the "Southwest Effect." Statistics from Southwest's newest cities, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are a perfect example:

* Since Southwest Airlines entered the Philadelphia market in May 2004, total Philadelphia traffic has increased nearly 30 percent.
* In just one year, Southwest Airlines has grown to capture nearly 10 percent of the Philadelphia market share.
* In the third quarter of 2004, the average one-way fare between Philadelphia and Chicago Midway fell 46 percent, while traffic increased by 137 percent. In addition, the average one-way fare between Philadelphia and Chicago O'Hare (an airport that Southwest Airlines does not serve) fell 44 percent, while traffic increased by 28 percent, showing that Southwest Airlines' arrival in new markets benefits sister airports and other airlines.
* Since Southwest Airlines entered the Philadelphia market, one-way fares between Philadelphia and Raleigh-Durham, N.C., have dropped 74 percent; one-way fares between Philadelphia and Phoenix have dropped 33 percent; one-way fares between Philadelphia and Los Angeles have dropped 33 percent; one-way fares between Philadelphia and Las Vegas have dropped 27 percent; and one-way fares between Philadelphia and Tampa Bay have dropped 20 percent.
* Southwest, which began service from Pittsburgh on May 4 with 10 daily nonstop flights to Chicago, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, and Orlando, had a total of 57,260 passengers, accounting for six percent of the passengers at Pittsburgh International Airport, in its first month of operations. Southwest was the fourth busiest airline at Pittsburgh behind US Airways (570,168), Delta (65,228), and United (60,931) for May 2005.

"Southwest is thrilled to begin operating out of a new, state-of-the-art facility," Kelly said. "The new terminal will be a great home for Southwest, and Fort Myers will be a fantastic addition to our strong 61 city network."

INUS Technology Begins Shipping rapidformXO Verifier, New 3D Scan-Based Inspection Software

INUS Technology Begins Shipping rapidformXO Verifier, Powerful New 3D Scan Based Inspection Software

Seoul, South Korea (PRWEB) June 25, 2005 -- INUS Technology announced today that it has begun shipping rapidformXO Verifier to customers around the world, bringing a new level of functionality and automation to 3D scan based inspection systems. rapidformXO Verifier (XOV) is the first software on the market designed to completely automate the verification of part geometry using 3D digitizing/scanning technology.

Using rapidformXO Verifier along with a 3D scanner, virtually any object can be digitized and verified for first article inspection, tooling wear analysis, in-line and next-to-line inspection and sample check analysis. With the ability to examine tens of millions of data points for a single part, rapidformXO Verifier can automatically compare the part to a CAD design model or another scanned object, resulting in color deviation maps in 3D or in 2D sectional views. XOV can also automatically perform extensive geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) on parts. All of the inspection results can then be shared with colleagues, suppliers and customers via an incredibly intuitive reporting interface.

As the next generation in 3D scanning software, XOV offers unique advantages, including complete inspection process automation without the use of macros, blazing fast processing speeds, unmatched data handling capacity and a sophisticated new interface that makes the software a pleasure to use. INUS Technology has worked closely with a number of major automotive, electronics and other manufacturers during the development of XOV, building the product to meet the most stringent demands of today's quality assurance professionals.

"Through our broad base of existing RapidForm customers, we have been able to gain unique insight into manufacturers' needs for 3D scan based quality inspection systems," said Seockhoon Bae, CEO of INUS Technology. "Because we've built XOV new from the ground up, we have made a product that meets or exceeds these tough requirements, without being limited by legacy software constraints. The flexibility that the software offers is unparalleled."

As a completely new product, XOV takes advantage of the latest innovations in 3D scanning, including real-time inspection results with liveInspect™, and it can easily handle the increased data densities provided by new 3D scanners. The software's geometric calculation engine has been certified by the PTB and tested by NIST for accuracy. And, crucially, rapidformXO Verifier's entire architecture is designed around one key concept: systematic inspection processing. With a specialized interface and completely parametric architecture, each inspection project is easily managed and fully repeatable for systematic, uniform results every time.

XOV also includes features that make it easy for CMM operators to begin using 3D scanning for inspection. Wolfram Kleuver of CMM maker Heinrich Schneider Messtechnik GmbH remarked "This is the software we've been waiting on for years. rapidformXO Verifier has included all the features we need. The most interesting point is how XOV automatically finds matching geometries between the CAD and scan data, which solves the major problem in point cloud measurement."

Availability
rapidformXO Verifier is immediately available through authorized RapidForm resellers and INUS Technology offices around the world. Free trial versions of XOV and live product demonstrations are available at www.rapidform.com or through any authorized RapidForm representative.

Symmetricom to Acquire Agilent Technologies' Frequency and Time Standards Product Line

The acquisition enhances technology leadership in high-precision timing with acquisition of Agilent's Cesium Frequency Standards.

SAN JOSE and PALO ALTO, CALIF. (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) June 24, 2005 — Symmetricom, Inc. (NASDAQ: SYMM), a worldwide leader in precise time and frequency products and services, and Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement pursuant to which Symmetricom would purchase Agilent’s Frequency and Time Standards product line. Under the terms of the proposed transaction, Symmetricom will pay approximately $8.0 million in cash. The acquisition is expected to close in several weeks.

Agilent’s Frequency and Time Standards product line includes the 5071A Primary Frequency Standard, one of the highest-performing commercial cesium standards available for timekeeping. The cesium clock, accurate to one second every 162,000 years, is used in government laboratories worldwide. Customers include national time authorities and measurement institutes, such as the U.S. Naval Observatory and the world’s time authority, BIPM, in France (BIPM provides the internationally recognized definition of a second of time). The U.S. government also uses Agilent’s precision timing instruments for satellite communication ground stations and precision navigation.

“The acquisition of Agilent’s cesium products strengthens our technology leadership in high-precision timing,” said Thomas Steipp, chief executive officer of Symmetricom. “Having the high-performance products and expertise will allow us to leverage our R&D investments in cesium for the benefit of both Agilent and Symmetricom customers. We are committed to further advancing cesium atomic oscillator technology to serve our customers’ full range of requirements for precise time and frequency.”

“For more than 40 years, scientists and technicians around the world have trusted Agilent’s atomic cesium clocks, and we believe that they are the most precise cesium-based timing tools commercially available,” said Bob Burns, vice president and general manager of Agilent’s Nanotechnology Measurement Division. “As Agilent focuses on new market areas, we are pleased to transition this important world-leading and historic product line to Symmetricom, where our customers will find continuity with a company that understands their needs and can provide them with strong worldwide support.”

Burns added that Agilent and Symmetricom are working closely to ensure a smooth transition for the product line’s customers and employees.

Cesium standards are mission-critical frequency references used in government timekeeping, communications and satellite applications, and aerospace and telecommunications networks worldwide. Agilent (then part of Hewlett-Packard Company) pioneered the cesium standard in 1964 and has historically addressed the high-performance end of the market, including timekeeping for the United States as well as for official time authorities and measurement institutes throughout the world.

Symmetricom pioneered the use of cesium atomic clocks on board the Global Positioning System satellites, enabling full operational capability of GPS in April 1995. The precision and stability of cesium atomic clock technology is the enabling element in GPS's precision navigation accuracy. The evolution of GPS-based systems has resulted in worldwide access to precision signals, which are used in navigation, telecommunications, safety of life and rescue, surveying, agriculture and a myriad of other applications. Symmetricom has also been a leading provider of cesium solutions for the world’s telecommunications markets.

Symmetricom has made job offers to all of the Santa Clara, Calif.-based Agilent employees who support the product line. Manufacturing will move to San Jose, Calif., following a transition period.

Southwest Airlines Responds to DFW Minority Chambers of Commerce

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) June 22, 2005 -- Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) has received a few questions from people who are confused about why six chambers representing minority-owned businesses in our area would support a position that protects a high-fare monopoly at DFW Airport, suppresses the area economy, and is anti-competitive in nature. We are a bit taken aback ourselves.

The North Dallas Chamber of Commerce bravely set the pace for repealing the Wright Amendment early on in this debate when it said the area's "aviation assets (should be) managed locally to encourage the competition that will result in maximum benefit to the taxpayers, the region and the traveling public." This is a position we assumed other business people, including those represented by the DFW minority chambers of commerce, would embrace.

We know a number of these chambers' constituents are loyal Southwest Airlines Customers who value our commitment to low fares with a high level of Customer Service. We know these business people would benefit greatly from low fares to destinations outside of the current Wright Amendment bubble. We know these businesses also would benefit greatly from the increased travel and tourism that would be generated by repealing the Wright Amendment.

DFW Airport, and more specifically, a man in charge of the contracts awarded there, hosted today's press conference. We certainly don't blame the DFW minority chambers for trying to protect these contracts. It just shows that DFW Airport is fighting this battle with dollars and cents while all Southwest Airlines has on its side is truth, right, and justice.

Note: For the 2003-04 term, Dallas Love Field awarded a third of its airport concessions and nearly 40 percent of its construction and professional services to "Disadvantaged Business Enterprises" (DBE).

Environmentally Friendly Cleaning with Light Reduces Costs

The innovative laser cleaning systems produced by Cleanlaser Systems from Germany, come to the UK. Used throughout the world for industrial and restoration cleaning, the equipment offers power and versatility, uses no water or chemicals and has the lowest cleaning running costs.

(PRWEB) June 17, 2005 -- CIProcess Ltd, the UK-based, innovative Cleaning and Process Systems company, announces that it is the exclusive distributor in the United Kingdom of laser cleaning systems produced by Clean Laser Systems in Aachen, Germany.

Developed over the last 10 years, the innovative laser cleaning systems combine power and versatility, with the lowest operating cost of all industrial cleaning methods. They offer a safe cleaning method and are environmentally friendly, using no water or chemicals and producing no effluent.

Primarily used for industrial cleaning and surface treatment, renovation and paint removal applications they also remove contaminants, production residue and coatings without damaging the substrate. Metallic and reflective surfaces are ideal although other substrates can be addressed.

Operating costs are reduced, through downtime minimization, low running costs and life span extension, with ROI paybacks of fewer than 12 months often achieved. They are easy to automate and can be integrated into existing manufacturing lines, to be used on-line and in-place without damaging equipment or requiring machine dismantling.

In use with leading companies and governments throughout the world, there are over 65 Cleanlaser systems in operation. Standard units are available in 120-W and 500-W versions, in portable or stationary versions, and special designs are also available.

Dave Adams, the technical director of CIProcess, reports "Laser cleaning is a precise, cost-effective method for cleaning when traditional methods fall short. Cleaning lasers are adept at removing additives, colorants, grease, rust, and other contaminants, while also minimizing abrasion and heat build-up.”

The Nd:YAG pulsed, solid-state lasers direct a high precision programmable scanning beam of up to 0.5mm diameter. The cleaning surface reflects laser energy and is minimally affected, however, any contaminants on the surface absorb the laser energy and are quickly vaporized, with any fumes or particulates removed by an in-built filter.

The cleaning stops when the contaminant is consumed, and consequently there is a minimal heat build-up, avoiding the microscopic roughening and cracking of metal surfaces that can be present when using traditional cleaning methods.

Cleanlaser systems are currently in use in the automobile, aerospace, bakery, food, electronics, restoration and other industries. New applications are constantly emerging and clients are invited to discuss their applications and submit their products and processes for testing in Cleanlaser’s laboratories.

The Cleanlaser systems are part of CIProcess’s extensive range of innovative cleaning and processing equipment including CIP/COP systems, innovative blast cleaning systems, skids, electrical and hygienic installations.

Historic Aircraft Returns Home to Prestwick for Ayr 800

The next event in Ayr 800 – the year-long calendar of activities to mark the 800th anniversary this year of Ayr being granted Royal Burgh status – will be a celebration of an important date in Ayrshire’s history that takes place on Saturday, June 25 to mark the golden jubilee of the first flight of the Twin Pioneer airliner in 1955.

(PRWEB) June 19, 2005 -- The next event in Ayr 800 – the year-long calendar of activities to mark the 800th anniversary this year of Ayr being granted Royal Burgh status – will be a celebration of an important date in Ayrshire’s history that takes place on Saturday, June 25 to mark the golden jubilee of the first flight of the Twin Pioneer airliner in 1955.

The 16-passenger Twin Pioneer was designed and built at the Scottish Aviation factory at Prestwick Airport with a requirement to have short take-off and landing characteristics, so that it could be used in remote parts of the world with small and very basic airfield facilities.

Some of the stories covering the design and operation of Twin Pioneers in civil and RAF service will be recounted at a conference on the aircraft to be held at the Marine Hotel in Troon on 25 June, the 50th anniversary date.

The anniversary weekend will also be marked by the return of a Twin Pioneer to Prestwick Airport. It is scheduled to touch down at Prestwick Airport at 1600 hours on Friday, June 24, 2005.

Owned by Air Atlantique of Coventry and the sole operational example in the world, Twin Pioneer G-APRS will offer historic pleasure flights on Saturday 25 and Sunday, June 26, from Orangefield, off Monkton Road, Prestwick.

The Twin Pioneer had its origin in the smaller Prestwick Pioneer designed to an Air Ministry requirement for a single-engine communications aircraft able to operate from confined landing strips.

First flown in 1947, and in its developed Mark 2 form in 1950, the Prestwick Pioneer became famous for its ability to fly at very low speed and for demonstrations of its very short take-off and landing runs. This performance was due in large measure to the high lift devices, the flaps and slats, with which its wings were fitted.

It was in Malaya that the unique characteristics of the Pioneer were first put to great use by our armed services in the campaign against communist guerrillas, acting in a supply role to jungle forts with only tiny airstrips in the middle of dense jungle.

So effective was the four-passenger Prestwick Pioneer that a need for a larger aircraft with similar performance became apparent, and design work was put in hand by Scottish Aviation on the twin-engine aircraft that became the 16-passenger Twin Pioneer, later nicknamed the “Twin Pin.”

To give the necessary short take-off and landing characteristics the wings of the Twin Pioneer were fitted with the same flap and slat high lift devices as the Prestwick Pioneer.

The prototype of the new aircraft made its first flight from Prestwick Airport on 25 June 1955. By the time production ceased in 1962, 87 Twin Pioneers had been built, finding their way into civilian and military service and operating in most continents of the world.

Like their smaller sisters the Prestwick Pioneers, Twin Pioneers were put to work in Malaya by the RAF and also the Royal Malaysian Air Force. Other tours of military duty for the Twin Pins were in the baking hot desert area round Aden and in various parts of Africa, equipped to carry out many different roles though acting mainly as a light transport.

Civilian aircraft operated in many countries - including Australia, Kuwait, Indonesia, Borneo, Iran, Iraq, Canada, Nepal, Morocco and Sierra Leone, and some Twins even ended up in Vietnam and Cambodia.

One of the most interesting aircraft was G-AOER fitted with large wing-tip magnetometers and a large camera hatch for the Rio Tinto geophysical survey. The last major operator of the Twin Pioneer, Flight One, used them in the surveying role until 1991.

More than nine Twin Pioneers still exist, probably the most important being G-APRS still earning its keep with Air Atlantique as the only flying example in the world.

Permanently in Scotland, the former Flight One Twin Pioneer G-BBVF is displayed at the Museum of Flight at East Fortune Airfield east of Edinburgh.

At the RAF Museum at Cosford west of Birmingham one of the ex-78 Squadron machines is currently in storage, pending construction of a new display building.

Of the other remaining Twin Pins, two are in museums in Malaysia, two are in more or less airworthy condition in Australia, with a third under restoration for the Australian Aviation Museum, and one is in Switzerland.

And one even turned up in Baghdad at the end of the recent Iraq war.

In its 70-year history, the aircraft factory at Prestwick Airport has sent over one thousand new aircraft of five different types into the skies - the Prestwick Pioneers, Twin Pioneers, Bulldogs, and most recently the Jetstreams.

It is a remarkable aviation heritage to which the Twin Pioneer made a significant contribution. The weekend of 25 June will be a unique occasion to hear about the Twin Pioneer, to see it in the skies, and even to fly in it.

The Twin Pioneer conference and the visit by G-APRS to Prestwick have been arranged by the Prestwick Branch of the Royal Aeronautical Society. The Prestwick Branch of the Society is greatly indebted to Glasgow Prestwick International Airport, Air BP and South Ayrshire Council for their support towards bringing the Twin Pioneer back to Prestwick for the anniversary weekend.

Pleasure flight departures will be from near McIntyre Avenue, Orangefield, approached from Monkton Road, Prestwick. For advance bookings for flights (price £50 per person) phone Air Atlantique on 08703 304747. For further local information on the Twin Pioneer conference in Troon or on flights phone 01292 477796 or 01292 476032.

Flight Experts to Corral Safety in Cowtown

International experts in aircraft accident investigation will convene in 2005 in Fort Worth, Texas, to discuss flight safety. Technological advances in flight safety and flight accident investigation will be presented.

(PRWEB) June 17, 2005 -- They will come from as far away as the land “down under”, representing four continents. They are detailed folks, familiar with herding minuscule clues amidst mud, muck, and, often, macroscale misery. Gathering together from more than 30 countries, flight experts of the International Society of Air Safety Investigators (ISASI) will head to Fort Worth, Texas, “Cowtown”, this September 12 -16 to discuss the latest technical advances in flight accident investigation and exchange information about flight safety.

Aircraft accident investigators perform a painstaking job, outposts of mainstream aerospace employees. They work in dust, downbursts, and debris, or in front of computers and in labs. By the end of the trail, they will have rustled through thousands of small innocuous pieces of rubble, sheriffs of every detail. Their job is more than a duty—they consider it a moral obligation to the aeronautical community and the public: Make sense of aircraft accidents so that mistakes are not repeated.

The roundup of worldwide investigators fulfills a primary mission of ISASI, to promote aviation safety by improving the accident investigation process. This year’s seminar will highlight relevant topics using the theme “Investigating New Frontiers in Safety” (www.ISASI2005.com).

Keynote speaker for the meeting is John Goglia, former board member of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the first member of the board to hold an FAA aircraft mechanic certificate. During his tenure, Goglia raised awareness of the increasing significance that aircraft maintenance plays in aviation accidents.

Speakers lined up for the meeting are experts in accident investigation, and many of them hold flight safety positions on government regulatory boards. Main topics slated for presentation include a review of recent investigations, accident data analysis, sharing industry information, managing post-accident stress, and crewmember perspectives of accidents.

According to Curt Lewis, president of the DFW ISASI chapter and seminar chair, air safety investigators train in proper investigation procedures, biohazards, interview and photography techniques, crash site survey, human factors, and engine mechanics—along with a slew of other specialized areas.

“We are a diverse organization, but our members share one goal. We all believe that air safety is practicable and sustainable. With continuing technological advances and training, we believe we can consistently achieve safer air travel,” Lewis said.

That claim is backed by statistics compiled from international regulatory transportation safety boards, insurance companies, and regional news media, which show a consistent decrease in fatal passenger flight accidents in the last decade. From a passenger’s standpoint, 2004 was the safest year in aviation since World War II.

And so it seems fitting that these probing pioneers of aircraft accident investigations will head to Fort Worth, a city whose roots are emblazoned in frontier heritage.

ISASI, headquartered in Sterling, VA, was founded in 1964 with 140 charter members. Today, ISASI includes seven international societies, 12 U.S. chapters, 10 Committees, and nine Working Groups. Members represent more than 64 countries, including government safety boards, airlines, and crewmember organizations. http://ISASI.org

The American Small Business Coalition and Network Referral Group Form Strategic Alliance

New Alliance Will Support Member Companies Engaged in Federal Contracting; Combined Organizations Represent Over 1,300 Businesses in 17 States and Four Countries

Ellicott City, MD and Columbia, MD (PRWEB) June 17, 2005 -- Network Referral Group (NRG), one of the largest Mid-Atlantic business networking organizations, and The American Small Business Coalition (The ASBC), a membership-based networking and support organization that assists small businesses in the acquisition of relationships and business intelligence in the Federal sector, today announced the formation of a strategic alliance.

Together, NRG and The ASBC represent more than 1,300 businesses in 17 states and four countries. NRG will operate under the name NRG Government which was established for this alliance. Early joint activities will include establishing government meeting groups where members can begin to exchange information specific to Federal contracting and developing strategies and teams.

“After sitting down with The ASBC and understanding their business model and philosophy, there was an obvious synergy,” said Michael Weiner, president and founder of Network Referral Group. “As we continued to delve into the needs of our members, it came to our attention that many of our members are involved in Federal contracting, and NRG needed to find a solution to help them expand their market share within the government. The relationship with The ASBC will allow our members more access and awareness to Federal business opportunities.”

The ASBC will focus on providing a broad level of understanding about doing business in the federal arena and developing market research. To that end, The ASBC has signed preliminary agreements with a company that provides information services specific to government acquisition programs. This will represent just one example of the many tools used to assist members with their business research and development activities.

“There are many organizations involved in trying to change legislation related to Federal contracting, small businesses and the socio-economic groups recognized by the U.S. Government – that’s not where we saw a need," said Guy Timberlake, CEO and Chief Visionary Officer of The American Small Business Coalition. “We focus on helping small businesses utilize the resources around them to further their ability to capture mindshare and contacts which can lead to qualified business relationships and opportunities.”

About Network Referral Group
NRG, headquartered in Ellicott City, Maryland is a networking organization committed to helping companies grow their business that brings together owners, entrepreneurs and selling professionals to develop business through leveraged referrals. Law Enforcement Associates Announces Filing of Patent Application for World's First Infrared Battlefield Surveillance Shells

Law Enforcement Associates Corporation (OTCBB: LENF), a surveillance and security technology company, today announced that it has filed a patent application for the world's first infrared battlefield surveillance shells.

Youngsville, NC (PRWEB) June 17, 2005 -- Law Enforcement Associates Corporation (OTCBB: LENF), a surveillance and security technology company, today announced that it has filed a patent application for the world's first infrared battlefield surveillance shells. The infrared surveillance shells will allow the military to observe enemy troop and equipment movements at night on otherwise unlighted battlefields and areas of operations. The infrared shells can be used by Special Forces and other troops to pin point military targets for aerial assaults without remaining to train lasers on the targets. The infrared surveillance shells allow troops, police and attack helicopters with infrared viewing equipment (nightvison) to view locations of enemy personnel, weapons, vehicles, unlighted buildings and surrounding areas. The shell illumination is undetectable to enemy troops and/or hostage takers without night vision or other special infrared viewing equipment. A typical application for law enforcement would be in the event of a hostage situation, infrared shells could be shot into a house through window openings, thus allowing law enforcement personnel with night vision to be able to see what is happening inside a darkened house without the hostage taker being made aware that he/she has been illuminated.

Law Enforcement Associates Corporation has also filed patents on a radio surveillance shell that can be used clandestinely to listen in on possible hostage situations.

Commenting, Paul Feldman, President of Law Enforcement Associates and the primary inventor of the shells, stated "I am proud of Law Enforcement Associates Corporation's engineering team for this ground breaking achievement". Law Enforcement Associates Corporation has already manufactured the illumination and radio circuits. These proprietary shells will see wide application in urban policing and warfare.

During hostage situations and military assaults, the infrared illuminating shells will allow troops and officers to enter unlighted buildings using nightvision having an advantage over the enemy and/or hostage takers who will operating in the dark. Law Enforcement Associates Corporation is proud to add another high margin proprietary product to its already extensive line of police and military equipment."

Professional Instrument Courses, Pioneer of the 10-Day Instrument Rating Course, Celebrates Its Twenty-fifth Anniversary

Professional Instrument Courses, Inc. of Essex, Connecticut, is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary in the year 2005. Founded in 1980, P.I.C. is best known for its personalized 10-day instrument rating course presented at the student's location anywhere in the United States.

(PRWEB) June 16, 2005 -- Professional Instrument Courses, Inc. of Essex, CT, is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary in the year 2005. Founded in 1980, P.I.C. is best known for its personalized 10-day instrument rating course presented at the student's location anywhere in the United States.

P.I.C. sends a professional instructor with a portable flight simulator to the pilot. The instructor gives ground school and simulator lessons in the pilot's home and accelerated flight training from a local airport. The instructor stays in a local motel, tailoring the eight hour daily schedule to the client's convenience. Thanks to the carefully organized curriculum and experienced professional teachers, most clients receive their instrument rating in only ten days.

With a staff of over 60 full time professional instructors, equipped with simulators, criss-crossing the nation, P.I.C. has trained more than ten thousand private instrument pilots. There are P.I.C. "graduates" in every corner of the country, in all 50 states, several territories and some foreign countries.

When P.I.C. was founded in 1980, most private instrument training occurred on an informal basis over many months. Intensive training was viewed with suspicion. Training was done mostly in the airplane and many pilots did not believe in simulator training. This was despite the fact that professional pilots, military and civilian, were trained on a full time basis, with heavy flight simulator use.

Since then, attitudes about instrument training changed and training methods evolved. Now there is hardly a pilot who does not recognize the value of the simulator and of full-time intensive training. It is widely accepted that this approach saves time and money and improves the efficiency of the instrument training.

Also, more and more pilots recognize the instrument rating as a practical necessity.

More pilots today use their airplanes for necessary transportation. They have lost their willingness to sit out weather delays in airport motel rooms. Consequently, there has been a continuing rise in the number of instrument rated private pilots – Pilots trained to fly under Instrument Flight Rules or IFR weather conditions. As that training "consumer" has become more educated the demand has grown for high quality, efficient, professional level IFR training.

P.I.C. has been able to grow with these trends and to emerge as one of the leaders in its field.

According to Tom Seymour, P.I.C. Vice President, the company has been successful thanks to a strategy of specialization and good service. "Our courses are efficient and professionally conducted, and they are convenient for the client. We go to his or her home base, anywhere in the United States," he says. "We feel a lot of satisfaction at seeing general aviation adopt the attitudes towards instrument training that the professional pilot has had for many years."

All P.I.C.'s accelerated IFR training programs involve instrument or type training at the client's location. The company offers a Refresher course for instrument pilots and insurance company approved Type-Training courses for a wide variety of aircraft, including cabin-class twins.

The Instrument Flight Training Manual, based on the P.I.C. course and published by Aviation Book Company, has become the standard guidebook for new and experienced instrument pilots. The recently released Third Edition is available from the company and also through popular catalogues.

For more information, call John O'Brien at P.I.C's toll-free number 800-435-9437 or visit their web site at www.IFlyIFR.com

Family Court Demonstration

Non-custodial parents plan Family Court D-Contamination

Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) June 16, 2005 -- The Alabama Coalition for Fathers and Children’s (ALCFC) elite Family Court D-Contamination Unit will return to action Friday June 17, 2005 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at the Jefferson County Family Court located at 120 2nd Court North in Birmingham. The D-Con Unit in full biohazard costumes will symbolize the clean up and neutralization of the poisons spread to Alabama families by a terribly flawed court system.

The ALCFC, now well known in Alabama for their tactics of high profile protests modeled after international civil rights organization Fathers-4-Justice, plans to increase public awareness to the negative effects that Alabama family law has on parents and children.

Alan Rusmisel vice-president of ALCFC added, “This is an on going campaign to provide awareness and educate the public to the abuse by a judicial system that seems to be dedicated to the destruction of families and the separation of children from their parents. We are spreading a message through peaceful direct actions mixed with a bit of fun and humor.”

Previous direct actions by the ALCFC have been Grim Reapers visiting Jefferson County Domestic Relations Court symbolizing that to fathers and children the real house of horrors is the court, Two Santas with helpers visiting the same court in an attempt to “Save Father Christmas” and a April Fool’s Day demonstration with numerous characters made the point “If a father expects equal treatment in domestic court April Fools.

The Alabama Coalition for Fathers and Children is comprised of parents, children and grandparents who have been victimized by the Domestic Relations Courts. We promote, support and engage in peaceful direct action that focuses attention on the atrocities committed by Domestic Relations Judges who use the divorce industry against parents, children and grandparents. ALCFC needs the support of people who want to change the system and are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to bring about change. After all aren't our children worth it.

SEA Releases National Schedule for Supplier Development

SEA’s schedule for the startup of conversion operations beginning in Q2 and Q3 of 2005. Certifications for consultants interested in supporting the SEA conversion will become available in July 2005. California - Open Now Connecticut - Open Q2 2005 New York - Open Q3 2005 Texas - Open Q3 2005 Florida - Open Q3 2005

(PRWEB) June 16, 2005 -- SEA is Open for Business. The Supplier Excellence Alliance (SEA) announces its national rollout schedule for its industry-wide conversion effort. Why is this effort so important? According to Ken Marcia of United Technologies, and President of SEA:

“It amazes me that most Aerospace and Defense suppliers don’t fully and aggressively embrace Lean. The industry is changing. It’s a question of survival. I don’t know how a supplier will ever maintain or grow market share without Lean. Our greatest challenge in SEA is convincing suppliers that this statement is true.”

Tom Plungis, of Lockheed Martin, and Vice President of SEA, adds:

“Our industry is suffering from ‘crossfire.’ We have many fine resources helping us to implement lean. The problem is that each has a different terminology, a different roadmap, and a different focus. And the question is, at the end of the day, will we all wind up in the same place?”

The SEA Lean Enterprise System (LES) has been developed to address these two concerns. It’s a collaborative model adopted by SEA members – the leading aerospace and defense primes. It’s a business system that leverages lean across a supplier organization’s entire enterprise. It’s the definitive roadmap that gets all suppliers heading in the same direction and aligned with the new, emerging needs of the new supply chain.

SEA will provide conversion assistance in 20 states by the end of 2006. Supplier outreach will take place through Executive Briefings, available in each state. For more information on Executive Briefings near you, please call 949 476-1144 X339.

SEA is the alliance of leading aerospace, defense and space prime contractors whose purpose is to accelerate supply chain performance.

Baltimore, MD (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) June 14, 2005 -- Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) today showed the State of Maryland a symbol of true "LUV!" The airline unveiled Maryland One, a 737 emblazoned with an artist's rendering of the Maryland flag. Southwest Airlines' top leadership celebrated today with the State of Maryland and the Maryland Aviation Administration. "We are thrilled to honor Maryland with this beautiful aircraft; it is truly a testament to the great relationship we have developed with our Baltimore/Washington Customers and a tribute to our Employees," said Colleen Barrett, Southwest Airlines President. "Our pride for Maryland will now fly high over the 60 cities Southwest serves."

Since beginning service to Maryland at Baltimore/Washington International Airport in 1993, Southwest Airlines has grown from eight to 164 daily nonstop departures. As Southwest Airlines has increased its flights, it also has increased its need for space. Last month, Southwest celebrated the opening of BWI's newest terminal, Terminal A/B. The new terminal not only offers brand new gates, it also offers a state-of-the-art baggage system, 11 security lanes dedicated solely to Southwest Airlines, a new ticket counter, and new concessions.

"Southwest's success at BWI would not have been possible without the sum of many parts, and this beautiful aircraft is a result of our collective hard work," said Gary Kelly, Southwest's Chief Executive Officer. "We have a great partnership with the State of Maryland and the Maryland Aviation Administration. Together we have all given our Maryland Customers a high-quality travel experience and low fares."

Barrett and Kelly hosted more than 200 community leaders today, including Maryland's Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., Maryland's Secretary of Transportation Robert L. Flanagan, and Maryland Aviation Administration Executive Director, Paul Wiedefeld. Attendees waved Maryland flags, took photos with historical impersonators, and watched Maryland One make its first fly-by at Baltimore/Washington International Airport. Gov. Ehrlich, Gary Kelly, Colleen Barrett, and Southwest Executive Chairman Herb Kelleher closed the event by christening the aircraft and leading the attendees in a champagne toast.

"Maryland One truly showcases the tremendous partnership that our State continues to have with the Southwest family," said Governor Ehrlich. "It is a testament to the quality service that Southwest Airlines has provided Maryland for the past 12 years."

"This day is a source of pride for all of us at BWI," said Paul J. Wiedefeld, Executive Director of the Maryland Aviation Administration. "We stand together with the employees of Southwest Airlines to celebrate our continuing relationship and growth."

Maryland One joins ten other 737s in Southwest's fleet that carry a unique paint scheme: Arizona One, California One, Lone Star One (Texas), Nevada One, New Mexico One, three Shamu aircraft (Sea World), Silver One (celebrating Southwest's 25th anniversary), and Triple Crown One (recognizing Southwest's top rankings for ontime performance, baggage handling, and Customer satisfaction).

Baltimore/Washington International Airport is Southwest's third largest operation in terms of daily departures. The airline is currently hiring ramp and provisioning agents for its BWI operation. Southwest Airlines, the nation's largest carrier in terms of domestic passengers enplaned, currently serves 60 airports in 31 states. (OTCBB: MRKL), a defense and homeland security company transforming advanced laboratory technology into real-world products, announced today that its subsidiary EOIR Technologies, Inc. (EOIR) has been awarded a SeaPort Enhanced (SeaPort-e) Multiple Award Contract (MAC).

The SeaPort-e contract is designed to provide a full-range of support services for all phases of weapon systems acquisition and life-cycle support including research & development support, prototyping, acquisition logistics, modeling, test & evaluation trials, and engineering support for the Naval Sea Systems Command, Naval Air Systems Command, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, Naval Supply Systems Command, Military Sealift Command, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Strategic Systems Programs, and the United States Marine Corps. The award was made in the SeaPort-e Zone 2 (National Capitol Region), which includes the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD). Airbus Gets a New Nose from Sacmi

Electronic olfactory systems developed by the Sacmi Group to be used for air quality monitoring on airliners

(PRWEB) June 11, 2005 -- The “electronic noses” developed by Sacmi will soon be used to monitor the interior of the Airbus airliner to detect the presence of dangerous, flammable or explosive substances. The European consortium that produces these airliners is working together with Sacmi on European project Nanos4 (Nano-structured solid state gas sensors with superior performance), one of the STRP (Strategic Targeted Research Projects) programs financed by the European Union as part of the 6th Research Plan.

The purpose of the 3-year project, launched in 2004, is to develop new gas sensors and electronic olfactory devices to monitor air quality inside airliners. While the focus is on potentially inflammable or dangerous substances, the research is also aimed at the detection of ozone in meteorological applications, the measurement of emissions from industrial plants with a high olfactory impact and the detection of gas emitted by combustion processes.

Cowboys – Need Not Apply; Teaching the Right Stuff – for Hostile Conditions

HCT (Hostile Control Tactics, LLC) meets growing need for training PMCs (Private Military Contractors) and security personnel for Middle East and Iraq.

Fairfax, VA (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) June 9, 2005 -- Since 9-11, the rules of war have changed and so has the composition of the security forces. There are over 250 private military security firms (PMCs) that provide personnel to protect VIPs, dignitaries, corporations, and government vital interests in the Middle East. With the increased kidnappings and attacks by insurgents the demand for qualified personnel continues to grow.

What determines if someone has the “right stuff” to be a PMC? And where outside the military can they get the training, knowledge and experience to be successful in this dangerous career? The answer is combat training from companies like Hostile Control Tactics, L.L.C (HCT), headquartered in Virginia, which provides combat training, pre-employment screening and tactical skill assessment evaluations for PMCs who send security personnel to the middle-east.

“We are not looking for cowboys or reactionary musclemen,” explains CEO Kevin James, a former Navy Seal and martial arts expert. “The best men and women for these jobs are those who have the physical skills, think tactically, and can handle the pressure. We are equipping professionals to succeed in hostile environments.”

All HCT instructors are former U.S. Special Operations military personnel, which insures that the training is intensive, realistic and the most thorough available. HCT's courses and assessments are only available to those with prior military service, law enforcement, private security or a tactical background.

The training is conducted on a 92 acre secure remote facility that includes protective security detail operations, close quarters battle, hostage rescue, kidnap recovery, vehicle escort and other high risk techniques. “Our mission is two-fold, we evaluate a participant's current skill level and as well as train them to deal with worst-case scenarios, ” states James. HCT also provides training for Military Special Forces Groups, Police departments, SWAT teams and private security personnel.

“No crybabies and no excuses” is a combat motto. The HCT faculty takes their job very seriously as lives depend upon it. The HCT standards are so tough that over one-third of students do not pass the first level. For those that do, there are many jobs waiting especially for those who display strong leadership capabilities. HCT assists in placement of its graduates as personnel with PMCs where the starting salary ranges from $500-1,500 a day depending upon experience.

As the withdrawal of conventional military forces from Iraq accelerates and the terrorist actions against non-military persons increase, the projected employment opportunities multiply. HCT graduates are trained to understand the weight of responsibility they carry. “To succeed in a war zone, security personnel must know more than how to load a machine gun,” James adds, “HCT graduates understand their role both as protector and ambassador of peace.”

The next HCT monthly training will be June 20-24th. For more information on the school contact Kevin James 703.987.3110 and visit www.hctactics.com.

Homeland Integrated Security Systems, Inc. Signs Exclusive Marketing Agreement for the Cyber Noze

Device Considered the Next Generation in Portable Explosive Detection

Asheville, NC (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) June 9, 2005 -- Homeland Integrated Security Systems, Inc. (Pink Sheets: HISC) announced today that it has signed an exclusive marketing agreement for the Cyber Noze, “The Next Generation in Portable Explosive Detection.” The product is now available for the Homeland Security market.

Homeland Integrated Security Systems has the rights to distribute the Cyber Noze, which was developed in conjunction with the US Navy. The device is capable of detecting trace amounts of most commercial and military explosives. The Cyber Noze offers non-contact, real-time explosive trace detection.

As part of the agreement, Homeland Integrated Security Systems will be responsible for the marketing and distribution of The Cyber Noze. The Cyber Noze employs a novel technology for the detection of explosive vapors that is more sensitive than existing devices. The advanced technique detects the presence of parts per trillion (ppt) of explosive molecules, without physical contact and in real time. The Cyber Noze has a unique “tornado” sample acquisition system which collects samples, ionizes them, and identifies the sample for an explosive. If the explosive is present, the LCD screen will display and identify the explosive and an alarm will sound.

Homeland Integrated Security Systems anticipates receiving purchase orders for the Cyber Noze in the next few weeks and will announce those orders as they come.

About Homeland Integrated Security Systems
Homeland Integrated Security Systems owns proprietary technology and has the rights to use patents to some of the most innovative and sophisticated security products. One of the key target markets is the 361 commercial seaports in the US which are vulnerable to criminal penetration. Other products include the Cyber Tracker, a portable family detection device designed to provide real-time GPS tracking of vehicles, people or other mobile or movable objects. The company is now accepting pre-orders for its Limited Edition Cyber Tracker at www.hissusa.com.

HomelandDefenseStocks.com Announces New Featured Profiled Company: Sniffex,

HomelandDefenseStocks.com Announces New Featured Profiled Company: Sniffex, Unique Explosives Detection Technology Vastly Expands Range and Effectiveness

Point Roberts, WA (PRWEB) June 9, 2005 -- www.HomelandDefenseStocks.com, an investor news portal for the Homeland Defense sector reports that Sniffex, Inc. (OTC.PK: SNFX), a provider of affordable handheld explosive detection technologies is a new featured profiled company.

Sniffex is the manufacturer of a pocket-sized, hand held explosives detection device which operates through its ability to detect the presence of Nitro Oxide ions (free radicals) within its effective range. Typically, most existing and emerging detection systems are excessively expensive and require proximity placement within 2 to 3 feet of the explosives for detection to take place. The Sniffex technology utilizes a unique detection approach: the interference between the magnetic field of the earth, the explosive and the device itself. This unique technology allows the device to penetrate and locate even small amounts of explosives through concrete and metal barriers. Unlike other devices, Sniffex can locate and find explosives from 10-100 feet, depending on the size of the explosive and the weather conditions, even when the explosive is hidden in buildings or in vehicles.

HomelandDefenseStocks.com is an investor and industry news portal for the Homeland Defense sector. The HDS website does not make recommendations, but offers a unique free information portal to research news, exclusive articles, interviews, investor conferences and a growing list of participating public companies in the defense sector.

Featured Company: (HDS is compensated for Featured companies on portal)

Sniffex, Inc. (OTC.PK: SNFX) was incorporated in Nevada in October, 2004, for the express purpose of manufacturing, marketing, and selling of Sniffex, a handheld bomb detection device. Sniffex, Inc has acquired a license to produce and sell Sniffex in the Americas and in selected locations throughout the rest of the world.

The Company has witnessed a high demand for portable, explosives detection devices, which until now has been relatively untapped. Sniffex aims to provide their explosives detection device to all potential global markets, focusing on market awareness and the creation of proper distribution channels. Sniffex is focused on the development of relationships and sales channel networks with established larger companies who have a strong explosives detection (and related areas) market presence. The development of these new networks will provide additional sales channels for Sniffex’s products and services.

Sniffex, Inc. plans to develop their business primarily around the Sniffex product line, but also intends to add additional products and services as market demand dictates. The Company expects that through sales of Sniffex it will reach buyers who have related needs, for which the company can develop new technologies and applications, including new generations of explosives detection products and “for fee” support services to train and assist in the use of such devices. Currently the company is working on improving the sensitivity and life of the Sniffex device.

The Sniffex Device in Use
Sniffex is made up of two components: a signal generator module and a detection module. In operation, the source generator is activated to emit an energy signal of a target material's characteristic frequency. The power level of the energy source will activate the electrons of nitro-based materials that have the characteristic frequency generated. Once the target material is activated, it too will begin to emit a signal having the characteristic frequency of the signal generator.

The detection module is moved through a range between the source module and the target material. When the detection module encounters the highest energy line between the source module and target material, which is the shortest line between the two energy sources, the Sniffex antenna will rotate to designate that the line has been crossed.

As the antenna continues to move through a range it will continue to point in the direction of the source module and the target material. Once a set of co-ordinates for the target material have been generated, then the exact location of the target can be calculated. Two or three measurements from different directions are required for precise location of a target. If a particular location is suspect, as in a suitcase, Sniffex can be used to detect if a target material is in that location.

United Kingdom's National Physical Laboratory Deploys Symmetricom Timing Solutions for Critical Accuracy

The UK's national standards organizations trusts the precision of a Symmetricom hydrogen maser clock, NTP Time Servers and Domain Time II Time Synchronization software to provide official, critically accurate time.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB via Overdrive) June 8, 2005 -- Symmetricom (NASDAQ:SYMM), a worldwide leader in precise time and frequency products and services, today announced National Physical Laboratory (NPL), the United Kingdom's national standards organization that maintains the nation's standards for time, deployed Symmetricom's Domain Time II software to monitor the time servers for complete redundancy, reliability and critical accuracy in reporting time to the general public. They also rely on a wide range of Symmetricom precise timing solutions, including their hydrogen maser clock for maintaining standard time as well as four Symmetricom time servers for distributing time across its internal network.

“Our internal clocks and the Symmetricom time servers are as reliable as any time devices in the world, but given the fact that businesses rely on us for providing time, we needed an absolute guarantee of 100-percent accuracy and 24x7 access,” commented Peter Whibberley, senior research scientist for NPL. “Since our international reputation is at stake every time someone requests time from us, we wanted to build an extra level of redundancy into the system. Domain Time II time synchronization software monitors the time servers.”

NPL successfully maintains time with a Symmetricom maser clock and distributes time to the general public via radio signals and dial-up connections. After receiving multiple requests to provide time over the Internet, the organization converted two of the Symmetricom NTP (Network Time Protocol) time servers, giving the general public access to obtain the time.

NPL sought a redundancy solution that would inform them immediately if any problems occurred in the system as well as giving them total control as not to have to rely on any outside sources such as GPS (global positioning system). Having successfully utilized Symmetricom's hydrogen maser clock, as well as two TymServe 2100s and two NTS-200s network time servers, NPL's selection of Domain Time II time synchronization software to monitor the time servers came easy.

"National Physical Laboratory’s measurement research and innovation are respected around the world and play a key role in supporting the competitiveness of UK companies,” commented Paul Skoog, product marketing manager for Symmetricom. “With the high stakes of accuracy, it is critical they maintain precise, accurate and reliable time, with Symmetricom's timing solutions as the most reliable in the world.”

For a complete case study on how National Physical Laboratory turned to Symmetricom when they needed to deploy a new methodology for providing time please visit or click on the following URL: www.npl.symmttm.com">www.npl.symmttm.com

HR.BLR.com Survey Finds Two New Areas of Military Leave Compliance are Tripping up some HR Managers

Human resource managers don’t completely understand how to comply with military leave under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act. A new HR.BLR.com survey finds that two new provisions of the law are not being followed by a small, but significant percentage of employers.

Old Saybrook, Conn. (PRWEB) June 8, 2005 -- The nation’s human resource managers are finding it difficult to comply with military leave under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act. HR.BLR.com, “Making State HR Compliance Easier”, reports that a small but significant number of firms are in non-compliance on two new areas of military leave compliance – posting notice, and continuation of health care benefits.

Most firms (92%) in BLR’s online survey conducted in May 2005 reported that they are in compliance with the new posting requirement from the Department of Labor, effective since March 10, 2005. But 57 companies, or 8%, have not provided employee notice of their rights under USERRA, and are, therefore, in violation of its notice requirements.

Employers, which previously were required to offer continuation of health care benefits for up to 18 months, now must offer it to those on military leave and dependents for 24 months. Most (88%) reported that they offer the right to continue in the group health plan for up to 24 months. But 12% are not in compliance with USERRA on this issue.

Susan Prince, senior legal editor at Business & Legal Reports, which operates HR.BLR.com, commented on the results: “It’s clear that our citizen soldiers being on duty in Iraq and Afghanistan is having an effect on HR professionals as they attempt to understand and comply with USERRA.”

“It also”, she continued, “highlights the overall complexity of military leave compliance as it interplays with FMLA and state leave laws.”

More than 750 HR professionals responded, representing businesses of various sizes and industries across the United States.

Seventy-three percent of respondents reported that the issue of military leave has gained more importance to them in the past year.

The survey also reported on the number of employees out on military leave, pay issues, and military leave discrimination claims. BLR offers a free download,“An Employer’s Guide to Military Leave,” which includes both state and federal military leave law at http://www.blr.com/82008400/PRS20.

Using a list of 15 potential new nonstop markets from Love Field, the study found that:

-- North Texas would reap an additional $1.7 billion in economic activity annually due to increased air travel to the region.
-- 3.7 million more passengers would travel in the 15 markets annually due to new competition and lower fares.
-- Passengers would save nearly $700 million annually compared to airfares charged by American Airlines at DFW International.
-- The total Wright Amendment burden on passengers, North Texas, and cities beyond the seven-state perimeter exceeds $4 billion per year.

Southwest hired Campbell-Hill Aviation Group to demonstrate the "Southwest Effect" in real numbers. Campbell-Hill used data readily available to the public, such as passenger traffic figures from the Department of Transportation (DOT) and current air service as published in the Official Airline Guide (OAG). The Washington, D.C. consulting firm has done work for the DOT and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), in addition to working with such airports as Baltimore/Washington International, DFW International, the Houston Airport System, and Pittsburgh International.

"There have been many attempts to confuse or scare the consumer into thinking that the best course of action is to do nothing about the Wright Amendment. This issue is about the fares and the cost of doing nothing is just too great," said Gary Kelly, Southwest's CEO, at today's press conference.

Southwest said it wished to answer a question that had not been addressed in the seven months the Wright Amendment has been making headlines. Communities all over its 60-city network report record traffic figures and airfare savings for consumers, but in the 26-year reign of the Wright Amendment over the Dallas area, a comprehensive look at the positive economic impact to be gained from repealing the Wright Amendment had not been done.

"Unlike others, this story can have a happy ending," Kelly said. "It's about unrealized potential; money that could be going to area businesses; money that travelers to and from the Dallas area could be saving on airfares; and how much the entire region stands to gain in additional tourism, convention, and business travel-related dollars."

The Campbell-Hill study considered what destinations from Dallas could look like by studying Southwest's operations in similar markets. Eighty-five percent of the U.S. population lives outside the restricted seven-state Wright Amendment zone. The study assumed Southwest could add 15 new nonstop destinations from Dallas, not currently allowed by the Wright Amendment. Using Southwest's average fares to markets on a like-mile basis, C-H determined consumers would have saved $397 million in airfares from the Metroplex area alone in 2004, just in those 15 markets.

"We must never forget that it is the consumer who is penalized by the status quo and who must be set free. It is the consumer who pays the greatest price to maintain corporate bottom lines and ancient history," said Herb Kelleher, Southwest's Executive Chairman, also onhand for the Dallas press conference.

Southwest is well known for expanding markets due to its lower airfares and frequent service. Through a price elasticity model validated by the FAA, C-H determined that just these 15 new destinations from Love Field would produce 3.7 million more passengers to those markets to and from the Dallas area.

Increased air travel also generates enormous positive impact on the economies of the cities and regions involved. Philadelphia recently credited Southwest for saving citizens there about $1.2 billion on an annual basis in Southwest's first year of service in that city. C-H determined that the economic impact of allowing competitive service from Love Field in just the
15 new markets studied would provide a $1.7 billion annual gain to the Dallas-area economy. C-H estimates a 46 percent gain in new passenger traffic from nonresidents visiting the Metroplex.

"Dallas' Love Field Airport is an underutilized facility and the wobbly wheel of the economic engine which is the entire transportation infrastructure in North Texas," Kelleher said. "You might not know that Love Field is now Southwest's eighth-largest airport in terms of departures, but it is only 17th-largest in terms of passenger traffic. Dr. Campbell's view would pump much-needed air into a flattening tire for a much smoother ride overall."

"It's foolhardy to argue with prosperity," said Dr. Brian Campbell, chairman of Campbell-Hill Aviation Group." Hotel occupancy in Dallas declined drastically by 22 percent from 1996 to 2003. For a city its size, Dallas cannot afford to ignore this issue and not actively market itself to the rest of the country through healthy airline competition."

It appears that lawmakers are listening. Texas Congressmen Jeb Hensarling and Sam Johnson recently introduced "The Right to Fly Act" to immediately repeal the Wright Amendment. Kelleher praised the leadership and vision shown by that effort. The bill now has seven co-sponsors: Congressmen Jeb Bradley (NH), Lee Terry (NE), Jim Cooper (TN), Joe Wilson (SC), Butch Otter (ID), and Texans Ron Paul and John Culberson. Kelleher said he looks forward to a similar effort in the Senate.

The Nevada State Senate and the Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce are the latest in a string of community efforts and editorial positions to support repeal of the Wright Amendment, including the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce, the Wall Street Journal, Houston Chronicle, Tampa International Airport Authority, and a growing list of Dallas-area economists and academics who say the competition presented by an unfettered Love Field would lower airfares within the region.

Southwest Airlines launched a web site, http://www.setlovefree.com , as part of its education campaign. The site received thousands of registrations within the first few days. The site provides information on the Dallas Love Field Master Plan, the benefits of state-of-the-art aircraft operated by Southwest, illustrates the fare premium charged to Dallas-area travelers as a result of the Wright Amendment, and Southwest's business reasons for not choosing DFW International Airport as its next new start-up.

"Herb and Colleen (Barrett) set the pace at the beginning, and Southwest Airlines has remained steadfast, in its mission of low costs, high productivity, great Customer Service, and low fares. It's why repealing the Wright Amendment is so important," Kelly said.

Southwest Airlines, the nation's largest carrier in terms of domestic passengers enplaned, currently serves 60 airports in 31 states. Based in Dallas, Southwest currently operates nearly 3,000 flights a day and has 31,000+ employees systemwide.

Beyond The Stun Gun: The Growing Demand For Alternative Less Lethal Weapons

Police departments all over the country are using less lethal weapons designed to stop an offender without killing him. However, a rash of controversial incidents has increased the media and public scrutiny of certain less lethal force options. Critics allege that Tasers have caused the deaths of a number of suspects and are prone to abuse situations. Amnesty International claims to have catalogued 103 cases in which the targeted person has later died. While these instances usually involved drug intoxication or pre-existing heart conditions, growing concerns remain.

(PRWEB) June 4, 2005 -- The use of lethal force is becoming socially and politically unacceptable in many of the confrontations faced by police and the military today. Law Enforcement personnel are continuously faced with lawsuits for wrongful deaths and unintentional injuries resulting from use of force. This has led to the development and use of “less lethal” force options, like the Taser.

“The market for stun guns could be on the verge of collapse,” says Barry Lamperd, president and founder of Lamperd Less Lethal, a certified supplier of less lethal guns for the United States, Canada, and NATO law enforcement forces. “The demand is rapidly growing for alternative less lethal weapon systems. We have developed a wide variety of less lethal arms designed to temporarily incapacitate, confuse, delay, or restrain an adversary in a variety of situations.”

Lamperd Less Lethal currently manufactures more than 250 products, with more in development. One of their most recent products is a rubber-like projectile that is lead-free and stays soft, even in freezing temperatures. Two years in the making, this projectile has won numerous awards in North America. Lamperd develops and manufactures various ammunitions, rubber projectiles, shields, sock rounds, distraction rounds, numerous accessories and training products. They also offer tactical training programs for law enforcement personnel and stand by their trainees. “If we trained you, and you followed department policy and procedure, we will go to court with you,” says Lamperd.

Along with the constant threat of lawsuits, today’s world has its own unique set of challenges for military and law enforcement officers. New technology is needed to assist air marshals on board our commercial airlines and for our troops in Iraq, who deal with unruly crowds on a regular basis. Lamperd Less Lethal strives to meet the needs of peacekeepers all over the world. Their products have been used successfully in riots, prison disturbances, suicide interventions, and even hostage rescue situations.

Staffcentrix Unveils New Virtual Careers Training Program

Part of the Growing Homeshoring Trend, Home-Based Career Development Program™ will Teach Participants to Find Legitimate Telework and Freelance Jobs Online

Woodstock, CT (PRWEB) June 3, 2005 –– Staffcentrix, a leading provider of virtual careers training and related resources to the Armed Forces and other clients, has announced the launch of its Home-Based Career Development Program™, the latest in its series of virtual careers training programs. The new 6-hour program will teach participants to find legitimate home-based employment and freelance opportunities on the Internet.

The training in its pilot phase will be facilitated by Staffcentrix and hosted by Army base Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, and will be given June 9 at the base’s Army Community Center (ACS). The workshop will be open to everyone eligible to receive career development services from the ACS, and is given at no cost to attendees.

“The Home-Based Career Development Program™,” says Staffcentrix COO Michael Haaren, “is founded in large part on expertise Staffcentrix developed in researching and publishing the ‘Rat Race Rebellion,’ our weekly bulletin of screened telework and freelance jobs. Unfortunately, the home-based jobs arena is littered with scams, and our researchers must eliminate approximately 30 leads for every one we publish. In our new program, we show people how they themselves can find that needle in the haystack, so they can enjoy the family-friendly and environmental benefits of home-based work with a bit more peace of mind.”

"The homesourcing or homeshoring trend goes far beyond call centers," notes Staffcentrix CEO Christine Durst. "The true revolution, and the much larger story, is in how home-based independent contractors in particular function as cost-optimal growth agents for small business and microenterprise."

The new program will also include information on how to find companies that routinely hire home-based workers; how to customize resumes to make them more attractive to remote or virtual employers; how to work effectively with children in the house; and how to understand the difference between working as an employee and as an independent contractor.

About Staffcentrix
Staffcentrix is a leading advocate of home-based, virtual careers as a platform for stronger family life, and a leading provider of virtual work solutions and publications. Its Portable Career & Virtual Assistant Training Program for Military Spouses™ is now available at over 40 US military bases internationally, and its co-founders, Christine Durst and Michael Haaren, authored the first mainstream book on Virtual Assistants, “The 2-Second Commute,” due from Career Press in July 2005.

Enviro.BLR.com poll of Environmental Professionals Finds American Participation in the Kyoto Global Warming Protocol a Non-issue

It’s ironic, but a majority of environmental professionals said in a recent Enviro.BLR.com survey that the U.S. should have signed the Kyoto global warming treaty after all.

Old Saybrook, CT (PRWEB) June 2, 2005 -- Environmental professionals, whose employers are being “protected’ by the American decision not to ratify the Kyoto treaty decision on global warming, think that the United States should have ratified the Protocol. That was the result in a recent online poll by Enviro.BLR.com, Making State Environmental Compliance Easier, a Business & Legal Reports, Inc. website.

BLR’s poll asked, “Should the U.S. have ratified the Kyoto Protocol?” Fifty-seven percent of respondents felt that the U.S. should have ratified the treaty. President Bush argued that the Protocol’s requirements would be overly burdensome for the economy, that the exclusion of developing countries like China and India would make greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions ineffective, and that it would tilt the economic playing field against U.S. industry.

In the poll conducted in May 2005 the remaining 43 percent of the 134 respondents agreed that the U.S. made the right decision in opting out.

“American participation in the Kyoto agreement could be viewed as a non-issue,” commented Steve Quilliam, managing editor of Enviro.BLR.com – “Greenhouse gas emission reduction is a global movement. Large U.S. companies will have to comply with it in their overseas operations anyway, and to be consistent they will eventually apply the same standards everywhere, including the U.S.”

The Kyoto Protocol Climate Change Treaty went into effect on February 16, 2005, ratified by 55 nations representing 55 percent of all global GHG emissions. U.S. facilities can choose to undertake a voluntary program to address all or part of the Kyoto requirements. The federal Voluntary Reporting of Greenhouse Gases Program (VRGGP) helps to ensure that current emissions reductions won’t be forgotten under any future mandatory actions.

BLR’s environmental editors recommend these tips for a voluntary GHG program:
· Perform a baseline GHG emissions inventory.
· Explore solutions to reduce GHG emissions now.
· Register as certifiably reducing GHG emissions through the California Climate Action Registry or other state or local body.

Dimensions International Inc. Named Company of the Year by Black Enterprise Magazine

Dimensions International Inc., a 20-year-old technology and airspace company in Alexandria, VA, was named by Black Enterprise magazine as the 2005 Company of the Year. The company made $100 million in sales last year.

Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) May 1, 2005 -- Dimensions International, Inc. (DI), an Alexandria, VA-based technical services company was named the 2005 Company of the Year by Black Enterprise magazine at its 10th Annual Entrepreneurs Awards Gala Dinner on May 21, the culmination of a five-day entrepreneurs’ conference in Dallas, Texas.

“We are pleased that Black Enterprise has recognized DI’s services and our pursuit of excellence at various levels, which have allowed us to grow in the past 20 years, and especially now, as we are celebrating our 20th anniversary,” said Russell T. Wright, DI chairman and CEO. “The company and its employees have done a tremendous job in the areas of IT, logistics, airspace management, and technology integration. This award is not just for the Wright family but for the entire DI family.”

Ranked number 35 on Black Enterprise’s BE 100s companies, DI bested the competition and cinched the prestigious honor after spearheading the largest deal in the history of its firm, when it acquired SENTEL Corp., under Wright’s leadership. By acquiring SENTEL, a former BE 100s company that provides engineering and software services, DI put itself in the enviable position of having greater ability to pursue multimillion-dollar government contracts. BE 100s companies are judged on how fit, fast and inventive they are to not only survive but to thrive. Wright, who assumed the reins of the company from his father Dr. Robert L. Wright, two years ago, managed the company in grossing nearly $100 million in sales last year. Besides SENTEL, DI is also known for the wholly owned subsidiary, Flight Explorer, an Internet-based global tracking system used by the government to track commercial aircraft.

With this award, Russell T. Wright has raised his profile even further, after having been named Entrepreneur of the Year by Black Engineer magazine in February, and Entrepreneur of the Year by the Virginia Minority Supplier Development Council in December 2004.

Wright added that he is humbled by the award from Black Enterprise. “However, I am not one to rest on my laurels,” Wright explained. “I see this honor as encouragement for us to continue in excellence with the work we have been doing, and that we will continue to do for the next 20-30 years and for generations to come.”

Historic Warship USS LST-325 Making Three Ports of Call in Massachusetts

This decorated veteran of the D-Day and Italian invasions is making three ports of call in Massachusetts in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. She will escort the USS Constitution on a harbor turnaround and will be open to the public for tours.

Buzzard’s Bay, MA (PRWEB) June 1, 2005 -- USS LST-325, a World War Two amphibious vessel known as a “Landing Ship, Tank,” will pull into port Friday evening at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy as part of its East Coast Celebration Tour. The ship will later join the USS Constitution and the WWII destroyer USS Cassin Young (DD-793) at the Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston on June 8, followed by a final stop at Gloucester, Mass. on June 20. She recently spent the Memorial Day weekend at Alexandria, Va., attracting many visitors.

This proud veteran warship participated in the invasions of Sicily and Salerno, and made 44 round-trips between England and Normandy during the D-Day invasion, earning two battle stars during her World War Two service.

The ship attracted national attention in January 2001 when a crew of 28 veterans, whose average age was 72 years old, brought her home to the U.S. from Greece. They braved a 6,500-mile voyage through the wintertime Mediterranean and the North Atlantic to bring the ship, built in 1942, home to the U.S. as a memorial.

Public tours will be conducted each day while in port, except when involved in special events. Hours are from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and the admission is $10.00 for visitors 18 and older, $5.00 for children over five and a special family rate of $20.00.

The planned events include a harbor turnaround with the USS Constitution on June 11 and participation in the Department of Defense Tribute to World War II Veterans on June 18.

The ship and crew’s mission is to increase public awareness of the role and history of the LST in World War II, Korea and Viet Nam, as well as to provide a memorial to those that sailed, fought and died on them. The 328-foot vessels were designed specifically to land directly on enemy shores with mission-ready tanks, troops and supplies, which were unloaded through hinged doors and a ramp at the bow of the ship. Up to twenty Sherman tanks could be carried, along with many tons of other vehicles, supplies and equipment.

The current crewmembers hail from 23 states, most of them being U.S. Navy veterans who served on our country’s LST’s at various times since 1942. They are bringing this ship to several ports of call in Massachusetts, so that those of us who appreciate the service of our veterans can board and explore the only operational LST museum ship in existence. Winston Churchill referred to them as the ships that won the war.

Not all of the crewmembers are veterans. A few of them are serving in memory of their fathers who sailed on LST’s. They have learned the skills of their fathers from willing tutors who enjoy sharing with the younger generation, in the hope that they will keep alive the memory of these ships and the crews who sailed them.

Further information is available on the ship’s website at www.LSTMemorial.org. (The ship’s itinerary can be found on the “Voyage 2005 Information” page.) USS LST-325 is owned and operated by The USS LST Ship Memorial, Inc., a non-profit corporation.
