Montville, NJ (PRWEB) August 26, 2005 -- Marotta Controls, Inc., a world leader in fluid control solutions, announces that its valves and manifolds have been designed into various systems on the USS Halsey, (DDG-97) the newest Arleigh Burke class guided-missile destroyer that was commissioned July 30. Marotta Controls valves and manifolds are being used throughout the ship, including some of the Halsey’s weapons systems.

“Our commitment to providing the most advanced, highly reliable fluid control solutions is evident by our inclusion on the Halsey,” said Michael J. Leahan, Vice President and Chief Sales Officer of Marotta Controls. “We are proud to be a part of the Navy’s most powerful destroyer fleet, which utilizes some of the most advanced technologies available.”

In addition to the weapon systems, Marotta Controls supplied high-pressure relief valves, special purpose valves, solenoid valves, and manifolds for other systems on the Halsey. A specialty designed back-pressure regulator is used in a helicopter in-flight refueling system relief valve for pneumatic service on the ship. The special purpose valves are used in the Halsey’s shipboard fuel oil service systems, as well as turbine intake de-icing. The four gas turbines, which power the ship to speeds in excess of 30 knots, also utilize Marotta solenoid valves, as do the Halsey’s air conditioning and electronics cooling systems. Manifolds are used throughout the ship, including in the VLS (Vertical Launch System).

Halsey is the 47th ship of 62 Arleigh Burke class destroyers. In support of the National Military Strategy, this highly capable multi-mission ship can conduct a variety of operations, from peacetime presence and crisis management to sea control and power projection. Halsey is capable of fighting air, surface, and subsurface battles simultaneously. The ship contains a number of offensive and defensive weapons designed to support maritime defense needs well into the 21st century.
