CIProcess Launches World's First ‘Backpack’ Laser Cleaning System
CIProcess announces the launch of the first real fully mobile cleaning laser unit in the world. The ‘Backpack’ laser is a low cost, portable, battery powered solution for gentle cleaning for restoration, conservation and industry.
(PRWEB) October 28, 2005 -- CIProcess Ltd, the UK-based, innovative Cleaning and Process Systems company, launches the revolutionary ‘Backpack’ Cleaning Laser system, manufactured by Clean Laser Systems in Herzogenrath (close to Aachen) , Germany.
The ultra compact unit is the first real fully mobile cleaning laser unit in the world. Available in mains versions or rechargeable battery powered, the laser unit consists of an air cooled "state of the art" diode pumped laser with an excellent laser beam quality and an ultra small focus.
Developed in response to a growing demand for a low cost, portable cleaning laser, the innovative laser cleaning system combines power and versatility, with the lowest operating cost of all industrial cleaning methods. It offers a safe cleaning method and is environmentally friendly, using no water or chemicals and producing no effluent, as well as being small, light and fully portable.
The ‘Backpack’ laser is suitable for industrial cleaning and surface treatment, renovation and paint removal applications, as well as removing contaminants, production residue and coatings without damaging the substrate. The laser is also ideal for restoration and conservation, including façade restoration, architectural and sculpture conservation and monument and artifact cleaning.
Operating costs are low compared to other cleaning methods with extremely low running costs (circa € 0.3 Euro per hour).
With great interest from leading companies and governments throughout the world, the ‘Backpack’ lasers are available in portable or stationary versions, and special designs are also available.
Dave Adams, the technical director of CIProcess, reports "The ‘Backpack’ laser is the most exciting development in cleaning lasers for many years. We believe that we have made a great advance in laser cleaning technology, making it more accessible due to the low price of the units and the portability.”
The lasers direct a high precision programmable scanning beam onto the cleaning surface, which reflects laser energy. Any contaminants on the surface absorb the laser energy and are quickly vaporized, with any fumes or particulates removed by an in-built filter. This gentle cleaning method avoids the erosion and abrasion that normally occurs with most other cleaning methods.
A new addition, the ‘Backpack’ lasers compliment the established range of laser cleaning systems, which are used in conservation, restoration, automobile, aerospace, defense, pharmaceutical, bakery, food and electronics and many other fields.
The new lasers are coming to the UK in November to carry out demonstrations around the country. With demonstrations in some major Universities and industrial facilities, we invite any interested parties to contact us to arrange bookings. We expect and influx of new applications and clients are invited to discuss their applications and submit their products and processes for testing in Cleanlaser’s laboratories.
Cleanlaser systems are part of CIProcess’s extensive range of innovative cleaning and processing equipment including ozone systems, Cleaning-In-Place systems, innovative blast cleaning systems and stainless steel tanks and vessels.

Silanis Presents at the IATA eFreight Conference Electronic Signatures: The Key to Paperless Freight Processes
Silanis Technology, the industry’s most experienced electronic signature provider with more than two million users and consumers in business and government, announced today that Tommy Petrogiannis will present at the upcoming 2005 International Air Transportation Association e-freight conference in Geneva, Switzerland. The objective of the conference is to promote greater efficiency in air cargo shipment processes by moving to an industry-wide, simpler, electronic paper-free environment. Mr. Petrogiannis’ session will showcase how electronic signature technology eliminates the last hurdle in achieving paperless freight processes.
(PRWEB) October 28, 2005 -- Silanis Technology, the industry’s most experienced electronic signature provider with more than two million users and consumers in business and government, announced today that Tommy Petrogiannis will present at the upcoming 2005 International Air Transportation Association e-freight conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
According to IATA, 20 years ago it took 6.5 days, on average, to send a shipment internationally. Despite numerous advances in the transportation industry, today it still takes 6.0 days -- 1 day to fly, 5 days to wait for the paper. “This statistic clearly illustrates that paperwork is the major bottleneck. And while automation has the potential to eliminate the unnecessary delays, risk, and expense inherent in traditional paper-based freight processes” says Mr. Petrogiannis. “These benefits can not be realized as long as documents must be printed whenever a signature is required.”
The IATA eFreight initiative has the support of the top industry executives including Ram Menen, Senior Vice President Cargo, Emirates, “The only way we can combat costs is to bring in better efficiencies that will enhance productivity. Electronic transactions will not just save the world from inefficiencies of physical paper pushing and associated red tape, but will also create better transparency and speedy real-time processing spanning the entire supply chain.”
For over a decade, Silanis’ electronic signature solutions have enabled other industries, from financial services to government, to achieve these goals by automating the secure transmission, review and signing of documents. At the same time, they produce reliable and auditable business records required to demonstrate compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards and organizational policies.
Mr. Petrogainnis’ presentation will introduce attendees to the concepts and issues surrounding electronic signatures including terminology, solution requirements and functionality. Participants will leave this session better equipped to begin defining their eFreight approval automation needs.

How Much Security is Enough? The First in a New Series of e-Signature Whitepapers from Silanis
Silanis Technology, the industry’s most experienced electronic signature provider, with more than two million consumers and users in business and government, today released a new whitepaper through its online resource center. Entitled “Security in Electronic Documents and Signatures”, the whitepaper addresses one of the greatest sources of confusion for organizations tasked with assessing their electronic signature requirements – identifying the appropriate level of security for the targeted business process.
(PRWEB) October 26, 2005 -- Silanis Technology, the industry’s most experienced electronic signature provider, with more than two million consumers and users in business and government, today released a new whitepaper through its online resource center. Entitled “Security in Electronic Documents and Signatures”, the whitepaper addresses one of the greatest sources of confusion for organizations tasked with assessing their electronic signature requirements – identifying the appropriate level of security for the targeted business process.
“The main reason why organizations move their document signing processes into an electronic environment is to make them more efficient; however, the exact opposite sometimes occurs,” says Michael Laurie, co-founder and vice-president of Silanis Technology. “Some companies end up making the electronic process even more complex and difficult to use because they set a higher standard for security than is normally required with paper.”
The reason for this, according to Laurie, is based on a common misconception that electronic signing increases the risk of fraud and therefore requires more security.
“Organizations have the tendency to focus their electronic signature initiative on implementing technologies that authenticate users, when in reality they already have most, if not all, of the security measures in place to establish the identity of its signers,” says Laurie.
The whitepaper defines the many forms of user authentication that exist today, such as personal information verification (PIV) and credentials, while emphasizing that they are not necessarily methods of electronic signing.
“Signing is the expression of intent to approve, authenticate or agree with the information in a document. It requires a specific action, such as clicking on a button or entering a password,” explains Laurie. “An electronic signature solution must reliably capture and reproduce that intent, while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards and policies.”
The whitepaper also addresses security as it applies to documents, signatures, transactions, information privacy and authoritative copies. The whitepaper can be accessed by visiting Silanis’ electronic signature resource center located at:
http://www.silanis.com/site/resource_center/index.php or http://www.silanis.com/site/corporate/whitepapers.php

Transit Experts Warn NYU Audience Of Major Security Gaps
Panelists Describe Lessons Learned, But Not Applied.
New York, NY, (PRWEB) October 25, 2005: A panel of transit security experts told a prestigious group assembled for the 6th Annual TriState Transit Symposium that technology is not a cure-all for security, and that four years after 9/11, urban transit systems are still lacking in many areas including standards, preparedness, incident command and emergency response.
Speaking on October 18 at NYU’s Rudin Center for Transportation Policy & Management, David Gaier, a journalist and former security consultant who writes widely on terrorism, told the group that poor incident command was still a huge vulnerability for urban transit systems, in New York and around the nation. Comparing the situation to the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, Gaier said “At the Gulf Coast, what resulted was chaos, which led to unnecessary human suffering and death. The same thing could happen in transit systems: incident command and control cannot be sorted out after the bomb goes off.” Speaking about the use of technology as a panacea, Gaier mentioned that NYC-MTA has just let a contract for $212 million to install and integrate a massive CCTV monitoring system. Yet he noted that “the London tube (subway) is most heavily-monitored transit system in the world, and while its sophisticated CCTV system helped identify the July bombers, it did nothing to prevent their terrible crime, and apparently nothing to deter them.” Gaier also said that most agencies responsible for security haven’t adopted a truly risk-based planning model: “Security cannot be capricious and arbitrary – and it’s not the same thing as law enforcement.” But he acknowledged that it was difficult for transit agencies to determine the best use of their people and funds, because the federal government has failed to produce a set of attested security standards that was due at the end of 2004. He also noted that “The TSA is still, in reality, the commercial aviation security administration, and has mostly ignored public transit, especially commuter and passenger rail systems.”
Eva Lerner-Lam, President of the Palisades Consulting Group, spoke about what’s happened, four years after 9/11. A policy expert in public transit security, Ms. Lerner-Lam reviewed the findings, conclusions and “common sense” recommendations of the 9/11 Commission and noted that - disappointingly but not surprisingly - Congress failed to enact legislation that would implement many of the most critical recommendations. She commended the Transportation Research Board (TRB) for sponsoring important, peer-reviewed research that has produced useful reports and guidance to transit professionals; however, she noted that the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration have yet to reach out and leverage leading research institutions, opting instead to “go-it-alone” with stove-piped, applied technology solutions. Finally, Ms. Lerner-Lam pointed out that, despite the many benefits of education, outreach, training and drills, there is no national framework and minimal funding for consistent, integrated, coordinated efforts at the regional and local level beyond the three “TOPOFF” exercises that were held in various regions in 2001, 2003 and 2005.
Ron Libengood, CEO of Pittsburgh-based SecuraComm, noted that a transit security anti-terrorism program must include a combination of policies and procedures, technology, and trained manpower. He also echoed Gaier’s concerns about technology, saying “It’s a waste of money to buy technology - such as a large intelligent camera system - and put that technology in front of personnel who are not properly trained to operate, analyze results and direct appropriate responses.” He added “response has been the weakest link…transit systems must improve their response through training and analyzing results from regular drills.”
Much of what Gaier, Lerner-Lam and Libengood discussed is borne out by a report from the GAO released on October 7, 2005. The GAO report found that TSA has not completed passenger rail risk assessments or established a methodology to analyze or characterize risks.

American Youth Soccer Organization Chooses APSCREEN To Provide National Sex Offender Searches
The American Youth Soccer Organization has chosen APSCREEN, the world’s leading full-service Consumer Reporting Agency, to provide searches for national sex offenders to be included into AYSO’s background screening process.
Rancho Santa Margarita, California (PRWEB) October 24, 2005 -- The American Youth Soccer Organization has chosen APSCREEN, the world’s leading full-service Consumer Reporting Agency, to provide searches for national sex offenders to be included into AYSO’s background screening process. The AYSO, an affiliate member of the US Soccer Federation, now joins numerous organizations using this free service including the Girls Scouts of America.
Ellisa Hall, National Administrator for AYSO, “We are grateful for access to APSCREEN’s national sex offender registry. For the last 40 years, the AYSO has provided a safe, fair, fun sport experience for hundreds of thousands of youngsters all across the U.S. We take seriously the charge to protect players, volunteers and family members, and this valuable information provides one more critical layer to our Safe Haven Program.”
There is no registration or fee for the service and anyone who has a computer and access to the Internet and a web browser can use it. Should a person have any reason to suspect that someone in their neighborhood, school district or community might have a sex crime history they can go directly to www.nationalsexoffenderregistry.net and enter the name of the subject and have a good chance of locating information about a sex offender's history. Currently the database covers 34 states and 12 local areas for a total of 46 jurisdictions. Most of the time, the sex crime records contain enough personal information to verify the identity of a suspect, or provide a lead to pursue further research.
Tom Lawson, CFE, CII & Founder of APSCREEN, comments, "We practically invented background checks over 25 years ago when few companies understood the need to screen prospective applicants. Now we want to give this free service back to the community because we feel so strongly about the protection and safety of our children. We mean it to be used in conjunction with other tools including other sites such as the FBI’s national sex offender registry and the Megan’s Law website provided by the California Attorney General’s office.”
APSCREEN (www.Apscreen.com), founded in 1980 is the originator of the modern-day factual employment-screening concept. Other services include tenant screening, employee locates, asset discovery, permissible credit reporting, motor vehicle records, and fraud examination. Tom Lawson is a certified fraud examiner, certified international investigator, expert witness and holds key positions in several national trade associations. Encryption Company Spins off from PC Guardian to become GuardianEdge Technologies -- Furthest Edges of the Enterprise Network Secure
PC Guardian Technologies, the encryption division of San-Rafael, Calif.-based PC Guardian, has spun itself off from its parent company and changed its name to GuardianEdge Technologies Inc. to better respond to the evolving enterprise data encryption market.
San Francisco, Calif. (PRWEB) October 23, 2005 -– PC Guardian Technologies, the encryption division of San-Rafael, Calif.-based PC Guardian, has spun itself off from its parent company and changed its name to GuardianEdge Technologies Inc. to better respond to the evolving enterprise data encryption market.
“Mobile data is extremely vulnerable to theft, and encryption is the only way to completely protect it,” says GuardianEdge CEO and founder Noah Groth, who launched the encryption business in 1994 with the release of one of the earliest applications that encrypted the entire hard drive, denying unauthorized access to a computer’s master boot record, operating system, applications and data files.
“Consequently, the furthest edge of the network is now the laptop carried by an engineer, an email transmitted to a business partner or a CD-ROM distributed to a field technician. This increased mobility of data creates greater risk for an organization because sensitive or mission-critical data are almost always unencrypted,” says Groth.
GuardianEdge’s unified data protection platform -- Encryption Anywhere -- gives enterprises greater control of mobile electronic data by offering a single, simple-to-administer solution that allows organizations to remotely protect data on computers, PDAs, removable storage and email while ensuring regulatory compliance, protecting information confidentiality and increasing employee productivity.
Formerly, GuardianEdge was a division of PC Guardian, a leading computer security company with more than 20 years of expertise developing data protection and computer anti-theft solutions for enterprises. Today, GuardianEdge is a separate, stand-alone entity.
Earlier this year, GuardianEdge received $6 million in funding from Altos Ventures and Cardinal Venture Capital.
About GuardianEdge Technologies:
GuardianEdge Technologies is a trusted partner to more than 450 organizations that are using its enterprise-class encryption across multiple devices and applications. Since 1994, GuardianEdge’s encryption solutions have simplified encryption and control of enterprise data, ensured regulatory compliance and protected information confidentiality. Earlier this year, GuardianEdge received $6 million in funding from Altos Ventures and Cardinal Venture Capital. For more information, please visit http://www.guardianedge.com/.
About PC Guardian:

Defense Intelligence Agency Sources Warned of NYC 9/11 Events
Defense Intelligence Agency used human 'time machines' to view images of terror attack in New York City: "Newspaper headlines have something to do with a collapse of a building - a lot of people hurt or injured. I also sense a feeling of panic, people scrambling and perhaps something to do with an aircraft...I sense that the object may cause structural damage as it crashes through the building. All of this takes place sometime in the future."
(PRWEB) October 23, 2005 -- On June 17th, 1986, specially trained DIA SUN STREAK sources were given sealed envelopes containing target data, and instructed not to open their envelopes nor share information with each other. Their mission involved the use of an exotic technology developed in secret by the military, in order to covertly spy upon the enemies of America. The highly classified technology was capable of penetrating the veil of space and time, to permit the viewing of targets beyond the reach of the best conventional methods. A product of years of scientific research, official Defense Intelligence Agency documents recently released by the CIA confirm, "There is no known defense."
Called psychoenergetics by the military, this technology was secretly brought to bear against the threat of terror on American soil. DIA sources, called viewers, acted as biological time machines, often receiving detailed information about distant places and events. The method was known to the intelligence communities as remote viewing.
In June of 1986, the objective was clear:
"So that we may have the opportunity to thwart any hostile terrorist activities..."
It was assumed that any terrorist event would be reported in the news, so the instructions asked that the viewers describe the story as it would be reported in the Washington Post. The instructions included a familiar landmark location.
Of immediate concern for the intelligence officers tasking the remote viewers was Liberty Weekend, the 100th birthday party for the Statue of Liberty. The instructions sealed inside the envelopes, provided cuing for the viewers to operate outside of their normal perceptions and access the target. Four separate sources working independently, were tasked to view the same target, without the benefit of even knowing the official instructions hidden in the envelopes. It was as if various unknowns had conspired together from beyond space and time, drawing the viewers attention away from 1986 to New York City, on September 11, 2001.
Images of 9/11?
"Some event is involved...seems like an explosion...impression of large, round metallic object made of heavy-duty construction, perhaps involving moveable, rotating parts...impression of something white with wide-spread, contoured surfaces like something intended to fly...relatively small number of people involved, but connection with broader circle of people exists...impression of an air attack by terrorists ..."
On September 11, 2001, as Flight 11 descended into the World Trade Center with jet turbines wailing like a banshee choir, one can only imagine the psychic shock of the unfortunate victims as they watched the plane approach at nearly 500 miles per hour.
"A rather large, tall structure..."
"Site is a massive grey structure. It has a stepped or different level feeling, stacked...newspaper headlines have something to do with a collapse of a building - a lot of people hurt or injured. I also sense a feeling of panic, people scrambling and perhaps something to do with an aircraft...I sense that the object may cause structural damage as it crashes through the building. All of this takes place sometime in the future."
The DIA sources had been asked to view reports of hostile terrorist activities that would later be reported in the Washington Post. Technically, their mission had been a failure. The tasking officers had asked them to focus their attention on events of July, 1986. Why had the viewers' perception moved so far into the future?
Lyn Buchanan, a retired DIA source who was one of the four SUN STREAK viewers explained, "You will almost always find things in any session which can apply to another target (all outdoor targets have "sky"). But it is when the majority of impressions overwhelmingly apply to one target instead of the tasked one, that you can say a viewer (or set of viewers) has "jumped target". In the case of the "Liberty weekend" (which, I think, is the turning on of the lights and festivities at the refurbished Statue of Liberty), it is very likely that a lot of 9/11 material was mixed in with the findings. In fact, I would be surprised if it weren't. This, however, is usually called "target mixing". At the time, we decided that the fireworks displays were taken by the viewers to be attacks and explosions, and that the excitement was taken to be terror, but in fact, we were viewing the same buildings, and that almost always runs the risk of falling prey to "temporal attractors", which the 9/11 disaster would certainly be."
Other times are special cases of other worlds
Oxford's David Deutsch, a world leading physicist in the area of quantum computing, has explained that quantum theory demonstrates that our world is merely one possible outcome in a vast infinite set of possible other worlds called the multiverse. Far from being science fiction, this idea is at the core of developing 21st Century technologies. Deutsch explains that what we know as other times are merely special cases of other universes in this vast multiverse.
In his 1997 landmark book, "The Fabric of Reality" Deutsch writes that, "We exist in multiple versions, in universes called 'moments'. Each version of us is not directly aware of the others, but has evidence of their existence because physical laws link the contents of different universes...there tends to be very little interchange of information between universes because the laws of physics predict very little causal contact between them...possession of a time machine would allow us access to knowledge from an entirely new source, namely the creativity of minds in other universes. They could also receive knowledge from us, so that one can loosely speak of a 'trade' in knowledge...across many universes...a time machine is a computational resource that allows certain types of computation to be performed with enormously greater efficiency by effectively sharing computational work among copies of itself in different universes."
The CIA STAR GATE research strongly suggests that information from closely related universes can be accessed by the human mind, at least for certain special individuals. So could the human mind be some kind of time machine? Or is it possible that information from the future has been encoded inside the human mind from an outside source with access to a time machine?
Starstream Reports:
The primary conceptual basis for the Space Time Threat Assessment Reports comes from the reports of anomalous information appearing within human perception. Is this information merely anticipatory simulation within the human mind or is there a source? If information from outside of the light cone of spacetime causality can be perceived, then there is a strong suggestion of the existence of superluminal faster than light signals. In fact the idea of signals from the future was seriously explored under a series of top secret confidential government run programs in the United States. The collective results of these programs came under control of the Central Intelligence Agency in the mid-1990's under the STAR GATE program.
The actual CIA document, and additional commentary and information, are available for viewing at the Starstream Research web site.

Hi-Tec Systems Named to Prestigious "Inc. 500" List
Inc. Magazine Ranks Aviation Safety/Security Firm among Nation's 500 Fastest-Growing Private Companies
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ (PRWEB) October 23, 2005 -- Hi-Tec Systems, Inc., is now rated as one of America's fastest-growing companies. Inc. Magazine's November issue places Hi-Tec on the 2005 Inc. 500 list.
Being recognized on the Inc. 500 is called "a pretty amazing achievement" by the publication's CEO and editor-in-chief, John Koten. "For 24 years we've had the honor of uncovering some of the country's most dynamic companies," Koten said, "The idea is to showcase the best strong private companies in the American economy, and to recognize businesses that are starting from scratch, and will eventually play a lead role in the economy."
"I have always aspired to make the Inc. 500, and am proud to be named to the list," said Tribhuvan Singh, Hi-Tec Systems' president and CEO. "The designation confirms our business model is on the right path," Singh said. "The credit for our growth goes to the professionalism and dedication of Hi-Tec's employees, who respond quickly and efficiently to our customers in the FAA and TSA."
Hi-Tec's largest clients include the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Headquartered in southern New Jersey, the company provides technical support to many research organizations at the FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center near Atlantic City. Hi-Tec also maintains a branch office in Arlington, VA, to serve contracts with FAA headquarters and other customers in the Washington, DC, area. Experts from Hi-Tec specialize in modernization of air traffic management systems, airport and aircraft safety research, homeland security and defense, environmental engineering and OSHA compliance, and information technology services.
The ranking of 445 on the Inc. 500 results from Hi-Tec's growth of 320.1 percent from 2001 through 2004. The company reported revenue last year of $19.16 million. Inc. required U.S.-based firms be privately held and independent, with four full years of sales as of December 31, 2004. For the 24th annual list, the revenue minimum in the base year was raised from $200,000 to $500,000.
"With unprecedented global competition, companies have to be able to turn on a dime and discover innovative new ways of doing business," said Jim Melloan, project manager for the Inc. 500. "Increasingly, it's the smaller, agile companies like those on the Inc. 500 that are best equipped to meet these challenges."
Hi-Tec joins an impressive line of Inc. 500 alumni, many of which have grown into industry leaders. The publication's list of all-stars include such common household names as Microsoft, Oracle, Gateway, E*Trade, Domino's, Timberland and Jenny Craig.
"This honor is appropriate as Hi-Tec Systems celebrates its 10th year of business," Singh said. "Making the Inc. 500 is the crowning touch recognizing a decade of hard work and commitment to supporting federal agencies with the best technical people and technology services available."

Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) October 22, 2005 -- The Highway Watch® program's Highway ISAC today issued a formal Be On the Lookout (BOLO) requesting assistance from members of the trucking and law enforcement community to assist in finding a missing tanker truck that is believed to have been stolen.
The BOLO, issued the morning of October 13th, relates to an empty fuel tanker that is believed to have been stolen from the parking lot of Pop's Grill on SR0041 in Avondale, PA. The Pennsylvania State Police believes that the tanker was stolen between October 7th and October 10th. Southwest Airlines to Serve Denver International Airport
Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV), the nation's low-fare leader, announced today it will initiate service from Denver International Airport beginning in early 2006. The airline will announce specifics of its flight schedule and fares via a news conference in Denver next week.
"Southwest has experienced strong Customer demand to serve an obvious gap in our route network, and this service will return Southwest's legendary low fares to Colorado," said Gary Kelly, Southwest's Chief Executive Officer. "Denver's growing community is one we have studied and intended to serve, for quite some time, and we look forward to also serving the people of the entire State of Colorado."
Southwest's announcement today is a testament to the positive changes that have occurred as a result of the construction and cost conscious operation of Denver International Airport. Southwest served the Denver market between 1983 and 1986 from Stapleton International Airport. Since then, the Denver airport system has established a strong infrastructure, with six runways, and substantially reduced its rates on a cost per passenger basis, creating an economically attractive environment for Southwest Airlines. Additionally, Denver International Airport was ranked number one for ontime arrivals in 2004, making the airport a great fit for Southwest's quick aircraft turn times.
"Over time, Denver International has dramatically reduced its costs, increased its efficiency, and demonstrated that Denver can be a viable opportunity for Southwest Airlines," Kelly said. "This year a leading travel publication named Denver as the 'Best Airport in North America.'"
Southwest Airlines was able to accelerate the start-up of this planned new city due to aircraft availability created by Hurricane Katrina-related schedule changes and the resumption of new aircraft deliveries from The Boeing Co. subsequent to the cessation of a Boeing work stoppage.
Historically, when Southwest enters a new city, fares drop substantially and demand for travel greatly increases. The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) in a 1993 study described the phenomenon as the "Southwest Effect." Statistics from one of Southwest's newest cities, Philadelphia, provide a perfect example:
* Since Southwest Airlines entered the Philadelphia market in May 2004, total Philadelphia traffic has increased nearly 30 percent.
* In the third quarter of 2004, the average one-way fare between Philadelphia and Chicago Midway Airport fell 46 percent, while traffic increased by 137 percent. In addition, the average one-way fare between Philadelphia and Chicago O'Hare (an airport that Southwest Airlines does not serve) fell 44 percent, while traffic increased by 28 percent, showing that Southwest Airlines' arrival in new markets benefits even sister airports and other airlines.
Southwest has reported 32 consecutive years of profitability and job security for its Employees, and earlier this year celebrated its 34th year in business. Based in Dallas, Southwest operates a fleet of 439 Boeing 737s with an average age of nine years-among the youngest pure jet fleets in the domestic airline industry. Southwest Airlines, the nation's largest carrier in terms of domestic passengers enplaned, currently serves 61 airports in 31 states. Based in Dallas, Southwest currently operates more than 2,900 flights a day and has 31,000+ Employees systemwide.

Medical Technology Facilitates Manufacture of Space Application Carbon-Carbon Composite Flight Control Program
Healthcare Associates of Irving, a large group of Family Medicine physicians, has been commissioned by C-CAT, a local engineering and manufacturing company specializing in carbon – carbon composites to help in the assessment of flight worthiness of parts used in the construction of NASA’s unmanned, reusable space plane program. The program is being developed by the Boeing Aircraft Company.
Irving, TX (PRWEB) October 20, 2005 –- Healthcare Associates of Irving, a large group of Family Medicine physicians, has been commissioned by C-CAT, a local engineering and manufacturing company specializing in carbon – carbon composites to help in the assessment of flight worthiness of parts used in the construction of NASA’s unmanned, reusable space plane program. The program is being developed by the Boeing Aircraft Company.
Traditionally, the aerospace industry has utilized commercial scanners to detect imperfections in the manufacturing and assembling of shuttle type components. However, accessing these scanners has proven to be costly and time consuming, taking up to six months before final data analysis becomes available. High resolution medical grade CT equipment promises to drastically reduce the expense and time incurred in the inspection process while enhancing the quality and reliability of data analysis.
C-CAT Quality Representative, Raj Narrayanan, states, “The willingness of Healthcare Associates of Irving to help us explore medical CT application has been a great opportunity to improve the response time in this space/aerospace program. We now have the opportunity to inspect the integrity and analyze the quality of newly developed components within days of scanning.”
Spokesman for Healthcare Associates of Irving, Dr. Mark Anderson, says, “We are pleased to have a hand in the development of NASA’s orbital research vehicle. The medical technology of our CT scanner which has been used for years to save lives has now found synergy with the aerospace industry in ensuring that we get our astronauts and space vehicles safely into space and back.”
About Healthcare Associates:

'Team Firefly' to Re-Convene and Repair Damaged Aircraft Thursday, October 20, 2005; Record-Setting Flight May Resume in a Week
Gus McLeod was forced to postpone his attempt at circumnvaigating the globe, when bolt fatigue caused the nose wheel bolt to break upon landing in Frederick, Md. After two sleepless nights and many teleconferences, Gus & Team Firefly redesigned the nose gear so it would no longer be dependent on one bolt. “Reinforcements, including the head of the ‘Team Firefly’ development program, Dr Soekmin Ahn, from the Korean Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) will be arriving on Thursday, October 20th to further diagnosis the damage and repair the nose gear on the grounded aircraft.
Frederick, MD (PRWEB) October 20, 2005 -- It was Sunday morning, October 16th, at 9:35 AM, after a week of rain delays, from the Gaithersburg Airpark, Gaithersburg, MD, that Gus McLeod thought he was finally getting underway on his record-setting quest to be the first to circumnavigate the globe from Pole to Pole. Instead, after hearing an alarming rattling noise after take-off in his South Korean built experimental aircraft known as the “Firefly,” Gus was forced to land in Frederick, MD, approximately 30 miles north of the Montgomery County Airpark, from where his flight originated. Upon touching down at the Frederick Municipal Airport, Frederick, MD, the nose gear collapsed on the runway. It is there, the “Firefly” remains awaiting repairs.
In an interview today, Gus McLeod said, "The bolt supporting the nose gear suffered metal fatigue and broke, causing the front landing gear to collapse. It's not nearly as bad as I originally thought, so repairs should be no big deal. Had the nose gear failed in a remote area, the flight could have been delayed for months due to lack of spare parts.”
After two sleepless nights and many teleconferences, Gus & Team Firefly redesigned the nose gear so it would no longer be dependent on one bolt. “Reinforcements, including the head of the ‘Team Firefly’ development program, Dr Soekmin Ahn, from the Korean Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) will be arriving on Thursday, October 20th to further diagnosis the damage and repair the nose gear on the grounded aircraft,” said Steve Rosenberg, President, SMRosenberg & Associates. It was KARI that designed Gus's experimental, rear-engine aircraft.
"This expedition is off to a rough start," said Edward Park, Gus' publicist, "but the damage is minimal, and with the help of the plane’s original designers onsite, Gus should be back on his trek in a week." It was a nose wheel incident at the outset of Gus’s record-setting open cockpit flight to the North Pole in year 2000 that grounded that flight, but only for a day.
This temporary setback could have minimal affect on Gus' overall trip. In the highly unlikely event that repairs run into November, Gus will have to reroute and fly over the South Pole first, instead of the North Pole as originally planned due to harsh winter conditions in the north.
Sky Dynamics, Lynchburg, VA, designers of the custom Turbo-Charger will fabricate the new parts for the nose gear in their machine shop. After repairs, the plane will be brought back to Gaithersburg for further inspection and eventual re-launch.
The year 2000 flight to the North Pole was chronicled in both a National Geographic “Explorer” television special and “Solo to the top of the world,” from Smithsonian Books, written by McLeod.

Troux Ranks Third Among Rising Stars on Deloitte Fast 500 Roster for 2005
Attributes 4,198% revenue growth to corporate and government demand for IT Visibility and Decision Support.
Austin, TX (PRWEB) October 19, 2005 -- Troux Technologies, the global leader in IT Governance and Enterprise Architecture (EA) solutions, earned the number-three spot on Deloitte’s Fast 500 Rising Star list released today along with the complete Deloitte Fast 500 ranking. Troux Technologies is the only Austin company named a Rising Star.
The Deloitte Fast 500 acknowledges the fastest growing technology companies in North America that have been in business for more than five years. A special category, the Rising Star list, recognizes 25 accelerated growth companies that have been in business for less than five years and are on track to join the Fast 500. Deloitte ranks Rising Stars on percentage revenue growth over three years (2002 to 2004).
“We are honored to be recognized as a 2005 Deloitte (Fast 500) Rising Star. Our customers are large, global organizations who digested impressive amounts of technology over decades, either through purchase or through acquisitions. Abundant IT spending in the dot.com boom, often siloed in business units, compounded by the challenging IT redundancies in the merger and acquisition period following the dot.com bust, created complex and interrelated IT ecosystems. They lack the agility necessary to drive initiatives that will transform the business,” said Hank Weghorst, Troux’s CEO.
“In today’s era of cost containment, regulatory pressures, and the need to derive value from every single asset successful organizations are retrenching. Troux’s IT Governance applications and Enterprise Architecture solutions provide the foundation to enable visibility throughout the IT ecosystem to support the vital decisions that will transform the business,” Weghorst said.
“Attracting enough customers to attain such fast growth over five years makes a strong statement about the quality of a company’s product and its leadership,” said Tony Kern, deputy national managing principal of Deloitte’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications industry practice. “Troux has shown the right stuff for growth.”
Rising Star Qualifications
To qualify as a Fast 500 Rising Star, entrants must have had 2002 operating revenues of at least $50,000 USD or $75,000 CD, for the United States and Canada, respectively, and 2004 operating revenues of at least $1 million USD or CD.
Entrants must be headquartered in North America, and be a “technology company,” defined as a company that owns proprietary technology that contributes to a significant portion of the company's operating revenues; or devotes a significant proportion of revenues to the research and development of technology. Using other companies’ technology in a unique way does not qualify. For more information on the Deloitte Rising Stars and Fast 500, visit: Deloitte.

Director of the RAS, Remote Astronomical Society, Observatory Announced Today That a New Membership Program is Now Available to Amateur Astronomers
Exciting program to provide amateur astronomers with remote observing facilities. Equipped with sensitive chilled detectors some of these systems have been used to discover asteroids that were fainter than 20th magnitude.
Fountain Valley, CA (PRWEB) October 19, 2005 -- The new director of the RAS (Remote Astronomical Society) Observatory, Martin Nicholson, announced today that a new membership program is now available to amateur astronomers (http://www.martin-nicholson.info/ras/front.htm). This exciting program is designed to provide amateur astronomers with similar remote observing facilities currently only enjoyed by professional astronomers. An added attraction to the 5 sophisticated Takahashi telescope systems mounted on Paramount robotic mounts is their access to the pristine dark skies of New Mexico, USA.
Equipped with sensitive chilled detectors some of these systems have been used to discover asteroids that were fainter than 20th magnitude. Every clear night (normally about 250 nights a year) hundreds of CCD (Charged Coupled Devices) images are captured under the direction and control of both individual and groups of observers operating the RAS telescopes from computers located all over the globe. At the end of each exposure, the images are downloaded from the cameras (also referred to as detectors), compressed and transferred to strategically located, high-speed servers. The researchers then connect to the high-speed servers via the internet and retrieve their science data.
The UK based Nicholson quipped, “It is really quite amazing…in some cases, many of these international amateur researchers will begin analyzing, documenting and reporting their latest findings to various scientific data repositories within just hours of initially intercepting the faint stream of photons that may have traveled hundreds of light years to reach our Earthly destination.” Nicholson continued, “The system in use at our observatory is very efficient. Imagine being able to direct a telescope from hundreds or maybe thousands of miles away to a point in the heavens within a few arc minutes of accuracy. The best part is that this miracle happens not just once or twice a night but literally hundreds of times a night.”
Nicholson commented, “Professional astronomers have many resources available to them provided by universities and other research facilities funded in part by grants. Now amateur astronomers will also be able to participate in a similar fashion and at reasonably inexpensive rates. The RAS Observatory has negotiated a special arrangement with Rent-a-scope, (www.rent-a-scope.com a robotic telescope time rental service) to provide observing resources to members of the RAS Observatory (www.ras-observatory.org) at special research rates."
Mr. Nicholson went on to say. “There are many additional benefits to membership at the RAS Observatory. Pooling the expertise of the various members, advanced techniques are shared and employed to achieve higher levels of scientific achievement.
In a technical vein some of the instruments are equipped with special filters and sensitive detectors that are typically beyond the financial means of many amateurs. By joining the RAS Observatory members can engage in some very specific types of research.”
Here are some of the additional benefits available to members of the RAS Observatory:
• A support system for amateur astronomers to participate in scientific research
• Educational resources
• Assistance in developing meaningful projects
• Assistance in presenting findings and document research results
• Submission of papers
• Coordination of research projects
• Subsidizing research projects
• A platform to permit researchers to present work
• Recognition to researchers for achievements
• Coordinate amateur projects with professional projects
• Coordinate collaborative projects
• Completive projects to help develop skills
Asked about future plans, Mr. Nicholson responded, “We are also planning to provide an environment where collaborative research will be coordinated through web meeting resources. At the moment this technology is under study. However, if we are successful in meeting our planned objectives, international amateur researchers will be able to attend global meetings using the RAS Observatory resources, from their respective locations through-out the world. This will allow many more individuals to participate, save a tremendous amount of time, reduce travel and accommodation costs and in general speed up the entire process of disseminating new technology and resolving many issues in a much shorter time frame.”
