WNYW’s SKYFOX is First HD News Helicopter in New York Market

WNYW-FOX5 is proud to announce the addition of the most powerful and fastest news helicopter in the New York market. The first of its kind, SKYFOX is an American Eurocopter ASTAR B2 and makes FOX5 the leader in airborne technology.

New York, NY (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) November 30, 2005 -- WNYW-FOX5 is proud to announce the addition of the most powerful and fastest news helicopter in the New York market. The first of its kind, SKYFOX is an American Eurocopter ASTAR B2 and makes FOX5 the leader in airborne technology.

"The innovative multi-format design of this helicopter and new HD capability from the Cineflex camera system will serve as a vital bridge that will allow us to provide improved service to our standard definition viewers while providing unequaled quality for those with HD receivers," said Lew Leone, vice president and general manager of WNYW-FOX5.

"We're proud that FOX5 came to Helinet for their aerial news gathering needs," said CEO of Helinet Aviation, David Calvert-Jones. "We have provided FOX5 with the best aircraft and high definition camera system on the market, assuring that FOX5 stays ahead of the curve and at the forefront of aerial journalism."

SKYFOX is totally equipped with state-of-the-art technology and high-definition capabilities, including the Cineflex HiDef HD camera system and multiple band microwave abilities. The advanced electronics systems in place in SKYFOX allow multifunctional HD capabilities that are not available in any other aircraft; resulting in increased detail up to three times that of standard broadcast resolution and increased news coverage. SKYFOX utilizes the same HD technology as the LAPD, which provides FOX5 with the ability to get closer to a story than any of its competitors. The SKYFOX helicopter is provided by Helinet Aviation Services and its state of the art design is custom tailored by Helinet’s engineering branch, Geneva Aviation.

"Being able to capture and broadcast live, high definition images from the air is the most significant development in airborne news gathering in many years,” said FOX5’s airborne reporter, Kai Simonsen. “SKYFOX HD is the most flexible helicopter I have ever flown in. Because of its state of the art design, I have access to numerous video, audio, and communication sources in a configuration that I can tailor to my own needs by the flip of a switch.”

The Helinet/Cineflex HiDEF camera system, which is built around the Sony HDC-F950 camera, is the lightest, most compact fully digital camera platform in the world. With its light weight, at just 67 pounds, the Cineflex HiDEF platform is significantly lighter and more compact than existing film-based systems and more powerful in its pan, tilt and zoom capabilities. The Cineflex HiDef camera system provides up to three times more detail than standard broadcast resolution and has enhanced zoom capabilities allowing, for example, a license plate to be read from thousands of feet away. This is the same camera system that was used in the critically acclaimed film Domino and the soon to be released Miami Vice.

WNYW-FOX5 is one of two FOX owned-and-operated stations in the nation’s No. 1 TV market – New York City – and is also broadcast via DIRECTV on JetBlue Airways. Fox Television Stations, Inc. is one of the nation's largest owned-and-operated network broadcast groups, and consists of 35 stations in 26 markets covering nearly 45% of U.S. television homes.

SENTEL Makes Big Leap in Sensor Integration With MicroRDR; SENTEL’s Micro Remote Data Relay Delivers Security Innovation in a Compact Package

SENTEL Corp., a premier engineering and software company, is launching a lighter, smaller, portable sensor integration technology with its Micro Remote Data Relay system (MicroRDR).

ALEXANDRIA, VA (PRWEB) November 30, 2005 -- SENTEL Corp., a premier engineering and software company, is launching a lighter, smaller, portable sensor integration technology with its Micro Remote Data Relay system (MicroRDR).

“This is the iPod of sensor networking,” said James F. Garrett, president of SENTEL. “It’s peace of mind and security in the palm of your hand.”

The MicroRDR is a compact smart networking tool designed and built by SENTEL that monitors and controls numerous sensors, including those that can detect radiological, biological, chemical and other toxic agents – simultaneously. The sensors can protect and warn the public in the event of a terrorist attack so anyone exposed to a toxic agent can receive immediate treatment.

The compact and lightweight MicroRDR can be deployed in stadiums, subway systems, airports, hotels, offices, shopping malls, theaters and wherever security is a priority. It’s just 3.1 inches wide and 6.7 to 12.5 inches long, depending on the model. It weighs as little as 10 ounces, so it can be deployed in innovative ways, including being mounted in security vehicles or strapped to personnel. Rugged enough for indoor, outdoor and mobile use, the MicroRDR unit has no moving parts and is weather resistant, operating in temperature extremes of minus-40°F to 130°F.

“The MicroRDR allows us to interconnect monitoring devices that detect physical security threats or chem/bio/rad hazards remotely,” said Ray Babineau, vice president of the Technology Integration Group at SENTEL, a division of Dimensions International Inc. “The MicroRDR speaks with all the disparate devices and then fuses their data, taking all that raw data from the various sensors and devices and turning it into actionable information – information that someone can do something with.”

In addition, the MicroRDR can be used with security cameras, motion detectors and any other kind of sensor. “With this technology, we can control camera positions remotely,” Babineau said.

Available in wireless and Ethernet models, the MicroRDR – and its big brother, the standard RDR – provide innovative, scalable and cost-effective solutions for connecting disparate, remotely located sensors and other electronic devices into one integrated network. Each sensor’s output can be monitored and controlled at a central location using SENTEL’s RDR Command Post (RDR-CP) software. More than 40 RDRs and MicroRDRs can be connected to just one RDR-CP, creating a network of hundreds of remote devices.

The RDR and MicroRDR are ideal for organizations, such as the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, and businesses because it’s incredibly flexible and adapts to changing technology. When an organization upgrades its technology, the RDR infrastructure remains and works with that technology. For example, if a new type of sensor is developed, it would still work with the RDR and the infrastructure already in place.

“It’s a win, win for everyone on all levels,” Garrett said. “SENTEL’s clients can still take advantage of changing technology without having to go back to the drawing board – a costly proposition – because our RDR’s system integration is innovative, flexible and scalable.”

SENTEL is a division of Dimensions International. SENTEL provides mission-critical support to the Department of Defense, DHS, FAA and other government agencies in the areas of chemical and biological agent defense, software development, electromagnetics engineering and test and evaluation. SENTEL’s innovative Remote Data Relay (RDR), a sensor networking system, is among its leading products. The RDR, with its new PDA capabilities, is a smart networking tool designed and built by SENTEL that can simultaneously monitor and control numerous, disparate sensors that detect, nuclear, biological, chemical and other toxic agents. Please call SENTEL at 703-739-0084 or visit http://www.sentel.com/

SportairUSA LC, North American distributors of Light Sport Aircraft (LSA), announced another industry first -- availability of airbag restraints on an LSA. This week, SportairUSA’s StingSport became the first LSA to incorporate the AmSafe Aviation Inflatable Restraints (AAIR) system into its aircraft safety features.

Little Rock, AR (PRWEB) November 30, 2005 -- SportairUSA LC, North American distributors of Light Sport Aircraft (LSA), announced another industry first -- availability of airbag restraints on an LSA. This week, SportairUSA’s StingSport became the first LSA to incorporate the AmSafe Aviation Inflatable Restraints (AAIR) system into its aircraft safety features.

The AAIR is a self-contained modular restraint system designed to improve occupant protection from serious head impact injury during a survivable aircraft accident and enhance the occupant’s ability to exit the aircraft. The AAIR system (http://amsafeaviation.com/inflatablega.htm), manufactured by AmSafe Aviation, performs essentially the same as conventional seatbelts.

“The AAIR system delivers a progressive new approach in which the airbag restraints deploy away from the occupant instead of towards them” cites Bill Canino of SportairUSA. “We are quite impressed with the years of research and development and rigorous testing of the AAIR system and believe its addition to our safety feature portfolio greatly enhances StingSport pilot and passenger safety.”

The AAIR system joins a Ballistic Recovery Parachute System and over 30 safety based features to augment StingSport occupant protection. Troux Technologies Demos Powerful EA Client Tools for DoDAF at CISA

New Metis™ Desktop 5.1 for DoDAF Template 1.1 squeezes costs from redundant IT systems, supports collaboration between military decision makers to strengthen warfighter programs.

OMAHA, NEBRASKA, CISA World Wide Conference --November 29, 2005 -- Troux Technologies, the global leader in IT Governance and Enterprise Architecture solutions, today announced significantly improved support for DoDAF products in its Metis Desktop 5.1 for DoDAF (Department of Defense Architecture Framework) Template 1.1. With the new DoDAF implementation, leveraging the award-winning visual modeling platform Metis by Troux, enterprise architects in the DoD and systems integration firms can more cost effectively build systems that achieve interoperability across DoD groups. This improves decision making, promotes resource efficiency, and reduces operational costs.

Highlights of the announcement include an SV8 living timeline, 'capability' object types integrated into the underlying metamodel for improved warfighter support, and standardized reference models that are reusable across multiple architectures.

“With our expanded set of Metis client tools for DoDAF, we provide rich EA support for IT and business decision makers in the DoD as they fulfill their missions to support and properly arm and enable warfighters,” said Pat Motola, president of Troux Technologies. “A DoDAF-compliant Metis-based EA gives technology and business groups within the military a powerful collaborative tool for rapidly advancing their business-centric IT initiatives and minimizing costs to meet mission needs.”

“Delivering services and capabilities to the warfighter quickly and efficiently have always been driving goals,” said John M. Gilligan, VP, Deputy Director, Defense Sector, SRA International, Inc. (NYSE: SRX). “Today there is an accelerating urgency -- fueled by DoD’s network-centric transformation objectives -- to develop and field new capabilities faster, fully interoperable, highly secure and reliable, and to do this more cost effectively. Actionable Enterprise Architectures are fundamental to achieving these imperatives, and our architects need significantly improved tools to meet these growing challenges. We are very encouraged that Troux is responding aggressively to provide enhanced capabilities for creating and integrating architectures.”

The Metis Desktop 5.1 for DoDAF Template 1.1, provides extensive automation of data collection and reporting with optimized output for appropriate stakeholders. Other key features include:
• System Evolution Description (SV8) support. The Metis Desktop 5.1 for DoDAF Template 1.1 is the only EA tool on the market that can provide a ‘living timeline’ summary depicting interrelationships of multiple systems and component parts, and highlighting major milestones as a system evolves over time. The SV8 timeline enables DoD architects and systems integration partners visually to display the progress of a system or architecture, rather than simply check off a box to indicate completion of discrete events.
• Operational capabilities as objects. The Metis DoDAF-compliant metamodel provides an object type for operational capabilities. As a result, DoDAF services and capabilities needed by the warfighter aid in identifying potential gaps as well as unnecessary redundancies.
• Architecture reuse through broad support for DoD reference models and guidance documents. The new offering supports many of the DoD reference models, including the Technical Reference Model (TRM) and the DoD IT Standards Registry (DISR), as well as other FEA-style reference models. Supported DoD guidance documents include UJTLs (universal joint task lists), METLs (mission-essential task list) and associated tasks mapped to operational architecture constructs.

Other DoD-oriented products and services from Troux
In addition to its new Metis Desktop 5.1 for DoDAF Template 1.1, Troux is showcasing a variety of other DoD-oriented products and services at CISA. These include:
• Metis Data Import Facility (DIF)
• DoDAF Planning Methodology from Troux Solutions Group
• Data collection services from Troux Solutions Group

Aspen Avionics AT300 Hazard Display Awarded FAA Certification

Aspen Avionics’ innovative AT300 Hazard Awareness Display has been issued FAA TSO Authorization. The AT300 display shows pilots a moving map of nearby terrain and obstacle hazards, helping to improve safety in the cockpit. The product's compact design makes it well suited for installation into light piston engine aircraft that do not traditionally have room for adding new equipment.

Albuquerque, NM (PRWEB) November 25, 2005 -- Aspen Avionics announced today that the company recently received Federal Aviation Administration Technical Standard Order (TSO) Authorization for the innovative AT300 Hazard Awareness Display.

“Achieving FAA certification is a tremendous accomplishment for our team,” said Peter Lyons, Aspen’s president. “As a new manufacturer certifying a new class of product we were subject to intense FAA scrutiny during the certification process. We are immensely proud of the fact that we have successfully achieved both technical design approval and production manufacturing approval in such a short period of time. This accomplishment speaks volumes about the quality and pedigree of our team, our products, and our company.”

The AT300 has been certified as a TSO C8d Vertical Speed Indicator and as a TSO C113 Multipurpose Electronic Display. This dual certification allows the product to directly replace the legacy mechanical vertical speed indicator that is found in virtually all light aircraft.

The AT300 is the only color moving map display available in the market that can be directly installed in standard 3 inch instrument hole. This unique capability allows the AT300 to show valuable situational awareness information in the pilot’s primary instrument scan, and to do so without the expense or installation complexity associated with traditional Electronic Flight Information Systems (EFIS) or Electronic Horizontal Situation Indicators (EHSI). Because installation of the AT300 requires no panel modifications or equipment relocation, the unit can be installed in virtually any aircraft regardless of the available panel space.

The AT300 moving map display shows the pilot current and next navigation leg information overlaid on a high-resolution terrain and obstacle map. Terrain and obstacle data is color-coded based upon its vertical separation from the aircraft’s current altitude (similar to more expensive Terrain Awareness Warning System displays), providing the pilot with an intuitive and easy to understand display to help improve their awareness of potential hazards along the current flight route.

The AT300 also provides the pilot with a full time display of the aircraft’s height above ground – information which has not previously been readily available in most light aircraft. The AT300 can also be configured by the pilot to display either side profile terrain or a data block showing the active waypoint identifier, desired track, groundspeed, distance to go and estimated time enroute.

The large moving map display area offered by the AT300 is comparable in size to many mainstream multifunction display and global positioning systems (GPS). The instrument is unique in that it only requires the existing pneumatic interface used by the legacy vertical speed indicator, and a single wire connection to an approved panel-mounted GPS system. The AT300 is an affordable and easily installed color moving map upgrade for many older text based GPS navigation systems, and adds valuable secondary navigational display information to enhance the capabilities of more modern color map GPS equipment.

The AT300 has a list price of $3995 and is currently available from any Aspen Avionics Authorized Dealer. A complete list of dealers can be found on the company website at www.aspenavionics.com.

Hi-Tec Systems Well-Represented at Engineer Awards

Five Nominees Recognized at Banquet work for NJ Aviations Safety/Security Firm

MAYS LANDING, NJ (PRWEB) November 23, 2005 -- Hi-Tec Systems, Inc., was well-represented at the "Engineer of the Year" banquet hosted by the Southern New Jersey Professional Societies. Five of the 15 nominees work for Hi-Tec as specialists in safety or security at the Federal Aviation Administration's William J. Hughes Technical Center.

The combined organization consists of local chapters of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the IEEE Computer Society, and the IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity Group. They recognized South Jersey's top engineers, scientists and technical leaders last week at a dinner and awards presentation at the Mays Landing Golf and Country Club.

A senior systems engineer from Hi-Tec Systems, Dr. Srinivas Mandalapu, received a plaque for "Outstanding Aviation Research." Mandalapu was honored for developing probability models that determine the relative risk of human and mechanical failures in aircraft. He supports the FAA's Risk Analysis Branch.

"This award gives a boost to my research, and inspires me to explore some new and exciting applications," said Dr. Mandalapu. "I am thankful to Hi-Tec for giving all the support I need for my work."

Other Hi-Tec employees were nominated in that same category for aviation research. Renee Frierson is a test engineer concentrating on airport lighting and pavement markings in support of the FAA Visual Guidance Section. The research by Nicholas M. Subbotin may help the FAA Airport Safety Technology Branch determine U.S. firefighting guidelines when new two-tiered aircraft such as the Airbus A380 begin flying to this country.

Harish Suri of Hi-Tec was a finalist for the title of "Engineer of the Year." Supporting the Technical Center, the environmental engineer developed one of FAA's first environmental management systems to identify and reduce risks, and to encourage conservation and recycling. Hi-Tec's Michael R. Wodell was a nominee in the "Technical Leadership" category. Wodell helps seek out emerging technologies for the Checkpoint Screening Program of the Transportation Security Administration Laboratory at the Technical Center.

ABOUT HI-TEC SYSTEMS: The company provides technical support to the U.S. Departments of Transportation, Homeland Security, Defense, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the Social Security Administration. From its headquarters in Egg Harbor Township, NJ, and an office in the Washington, DC, area, the SBA-certified small business has made the 2005 Inc. 500 list. In March, Hi-Tec began a yearlong celebration of its tenth anniversary.

Leading Tech Vendors Drive Sales with Online PR

Softscribe adds online PR product to fuel technology clients’ sales growth; debuts new Website.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 22, 2005 -- Softscribe Inc., a technology public relations firm focused on driving sales for companies targeting the US government, healthcare and hospitality markets, today announced a new online PR product to fuel clients’ sales growth and leverage their marketing investments. Softscribe also launched its new website today at http://www.softscribeinc.com to introduce the offering.

The new signature service, KeywordCapitalSM keyword phrase research, will be used by clients who want to draw more qualified prospects to their websites by making their technology public relations writing and websites more attractive to search engines. Keywords or phrases relate to a particular topic; sales prospects often type them into search engine browsers during the early stages of the technology buying cycle. Softscribe’s KeywordCapitalSM service develops a list of keyword phrases - based on competitiveness, popularity and relevance - for which the largest numbers of people are searching.

“Clients were asking, ‘How can more prospects find our company on the Internet?” said Michael B. Squires, president of Softscribe Inc. “During the past year, Softscribe has been aggressively learning how to apply the principles of Search Engine Marketing to online PR. One effective way is to use relevant keyword phrases in public relations writing and on websites. You may think you know the words that describe what you are selling, but are they the same words your sales prospects are using to find you on the Internet? The research that goes into our KeywordCapital product ensures they are the same.”

Jay Troutman, president of Aptech Computer Systems, said, “We told Softscribe that if they were not exploring Internet-based lead generation they ought to be, and were pleased to see they anticipated our needs.” Aptech engaged Softscribe to implement a long-term customer story PR program in 2001 that resulted in boosted qualified inbound sales leads and a 30% increase in website traffic. Aptech is the foremost provider of business intelligence, enterprise planning, financial, and operational software and services for the hospitality industry. In addition to the customer story program, Aptech also uses Softscribe’s new KeywordCapitalSM product and its optimized website writing program.

Squires explained KeywordCapitalSM may be integrated with the customer story program. He highlighted three other Softscribe clients that have successfully deployed Softscribe’s customer story campaign to:
• Grow from a legacy company to a digital-age success story and acquisition target;
• Accelerate growth from a product start-up mode to being acquired for $30 million;
• Drive 24% growth increase.

New website homepage features clients’ breaking news
Softscribe’s new website homepage will post breaking client news for greater reach across Web channels. “Fresh content causes a chain reaction on the Internet that pulls search engines to your site," said Squires, who recommends companies post fresh content weekly, if possible, through blogs, thought leadership columns or by repurposing press releases and Webinar content.

The following best-in-class companies created Softscribe’s new website:
Website design and construction:
• Cool Blue Interactive
• Graphic design and art direction: Hortensia Chu with McMac Publications
• Counsel on Search Marketing concepts: Prominent Placement, Inc.

Newly Patented Anti-Terrorist Aircraft Pilot Sensor System And Method Prevents Aircraft From Being Hijacked (US Pat. # 6,810,310 1B) To Add Element To Greater Enhance Pilot and Passenger Safety

(PRWEB) November 19, 2005 -- GLOBAL AIRCRAFT SAFETY SYSTEMS of Reno, Nevada, which announced the latest innovation in aircraft safety last quarter, will be unveiling a new element to the patent which will use biometric sensors on the pilot and co-pilot to add heightened safety to both crew and passengers.

August 25, 2001: Singer and R&B vocalist Aaliyah was killed in a plane crash when leaving the Bahamas following a video shoot. Her Cessna 402-B crashed during takeoff. Investigation has showed that the pilot had had traces of cocaine and alcohol in his body. All nine people aboard died.

October 25, 1999: Professional Golfer Payne Stewart died when his Learjet Model 35 crashed near Aberdeen, South Dakota. The airplane departed Orlando, Florida, for Dallas, Texas. Radio contact with the flight was lost north of Gainesville, Florida. The airplane was intercepted by several Air Force and Air National Guard aircraft as it proceeded northwest-bound. The military pilots in a position to observe the accident airplane at close range stated that the forward windshields of the Learjet seemed to be frosted or covered with condensation. The military pilots could not see into the cabin. The military pilots observed the airplane depart controlled flight and spiral to the ground, impacting an open field. All six were killed. The cause was the explosive decompression of the aircraft's cabin, resulting in the loss of consciousness for the occupants.

April 26, 2002: Glider tow pilot died in a crash at the Air Force Academy suffered a heart attack before the plane went down. Paul Vogel was pulling a glider with two cadets when his Piper Cub suddenly dove, pulling the glider down with it. The tow rope snapped and Vogel's plane barreled into the ground. The glider landed safely. Tests showed Vogel probably had a heart attack.

These are just a few examples of situations that could have been averted when using the system developed by Global Aircraft Safety Systems. The current patent released by Global Aircraft Safety Systems operates by installing biometric sensors in the cockpit of all aircraft, preventing any unauthorized persons from gaining control of in-flight aircraft. Only the pilot and co-pilot are recognized by the onboard computer to operate the aircraft. If for any reason, the pilot and co-pilot become disconnected from the system, the aircraft will then enter into “Global Aircraft Safety Systems Automatic Override Safety Systems Procedure” which begins by alerting all emergency agencies of the impending dangerous situation. If the aircraft and/or pilots are compromised, “The Command Control Center” will disenable flight control functions from the compromised aircraft. “The Command Control Center” can then land the aircraft safely at the nearest designated airstrip prepared for emergencies situations.

The new technology will add the ability to detect serious changes in the biometrics of the pilot and take over control of the aircraft, while alerting emergency agencies of the status of the pilot. The beacon system works by having a transceiver in all aircraft. The transceiver receives the signal from the transmitter located on the protected object. If any aircraft get within the airspace surrounding the protected object, the aircraft will go into “autopilot-override mode” which then deactivates the onboard controls. The aircraft can then be diverted away from protected objects. “The Command Control Center” can then land the aircraft to safety safely.

Global Aircraft Safety Systems is working with IntelliGlobal Mergers and Acquisitions to actively develop a consortium of buyers across a spectrum of businesses which would benefit from developing the patent. These include the US government, airplane manufacturers, airports, insurance companies, and aerospace technology developers just to start. “The applications for this device range from military to commercial to personal aircraft. We are seriously considering inquiries from the U.S. government as well U.S.-based private companies,” stated Deborah de Montfort for IntelliGlobal. “In the commercial industry, there are numerous uses in airport security management in addition to those by the private liners themselves. These also include private jets used for moving of supplies, mail, and other materials but do not carry large numbers of passengers.” The goal of building the consortium is to create a partnership among government and corporations that can harness the technology and applications in order to provide the highest level of safety possible.
In conclusion, Ted McBain, president of Global Aircraft Safety Systems, stated, “The sooner we all get together on implementing these systems, the sooner we can feel safer at home, work, and of course, while flying. Once the systems are in use, we will be another step closer at keeping our people and our country out of harms way.”

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) November 18, 2005 -- Southwest Airlines has travel tips for this busy Holiday Season that will keep spirits flying high. The Holidays can be hectic, and Southwest tips can help Customers make their holiday trip stress-free.

Keeping your travel dates flexible will help Customers find fares that fits their holiday budget, and flexibility is made easy on www.southwest.com through Southwest Shortcut—a tool that assists Customers by offering alternate travel dates that may have a lower fare available.

“Flights are filling up earlier this year, but there are still great deals available,” said Keith Taylor, Southwest Airlines Vice President of Revenue Management and Pricing. “Save your dough for holiday gift giving. With just a few clicks of the mouse, Southwest Customers can get home for the Holidays.”

Tip 2: But I can’t remember Aunt Bertha’s size! Never fear, the southwestgiftcard is here. No one will want to return the new southwestgiftcard. In amounts ranging from $10 to $1,000, the southwestgiftcard comes in sizes to fit everyone’s wallet. Since it never expires or loses value, it’s perfect for both the jet setters and procrastinators on your list. “The gift of travel never goes out of style,” said Joyce Rogge, Southwest Airlines Senior Vice President of Marketing. “Southwest is all about giving Customers what they want, and the southwestgiftcard is sure to be high on everyone’s gift list.”

Tip 3: Over the river and through the woods, wait—I have to get through the airport first! Southwest Airlines offers the keys to easy travel. Below are some of Southwest Airlines’ secrets to lightening the load; securing the coveted “A” boarding pass; and zipping through the airport; visit www.southwest.com to view the complete list and check it twice:

• Your mother was right; the early bird does get the worm! Like your favorite shopping center, the lines at designated airport parking areas, ticket counters, and security checkpoints get longer, especially on peak travel days. Though all airport personnel will be diligently working to help you have a pleasant airport experience, Southwest expects Tuesday, November 22; Wednesday, November 23; Sunday, November 27; and Monday, November 28 to be busier than usual.

• Boarding passes, flights times, and long lines; Oh My!: Getting to the airport is one thing; moving through it is another. That’s why Southwest recommends that you [check in online to help you get from the main entrance to the designated departure gate more quickly. (Even if you plan to check luggage, you can still retrieve your Boarding Pass via southwest.com.) Southwest encourages our Ticketless Travel Customers to visit the Travel Center to cancel, change, and/or rebook their flight reservations. All ticketed Customers may contact Reservations (1-800-435-9792) for additional assistance. Please visit Flight Status Online for the latest information regarding your flight. You may also sign up for our convenient Flight Status Messaging to receive the latest information about your flight via e-mail, cell phone, or pager.

• Baggage is naughty and nice, make sure you check yourself before checking your bags! All luggage is subject to inspection, and regardless of the way it is packed or sealed, it may have to be opened. In addition to our normal baggage policies and procedures, Southwest recommends arriving at the ticket counter 60 to 90 minutes before your flight’s scheduled departure. Click here to review our suggested Airport Arrival Times. To ensure that your name and contact information are displayed on your checked luggage, Southwest also recommends that you place a name tag (that includes a convenient phone number) on your carryon items and inside your checked baggage. That way, Southwest can attempt to return them should any get left behind. If you plan to bring a gift, please know that all wrapped packages must be opened for inspection by airport security. Though some airports that Southwest serves offer gift wrapping (courtesy of their concierge services), Southwest suggests shipping your gifts and packages ahead of time. Southwest also asks that you carry your keys and medicines on you (or in your carryon items) instead of in your checked luggage.

• When In Doubt, Leave It Out. If you’re not sure whether an item will be accepted past the security checkpoint, it’s probably best to either travel without it or pack it in your checked luggage. For a list of items that can and cannot be carried onboard the aircraft, Southwest encourages you to visit: www.tsa.gov to help reduce the amount of time spent at the security checkpoint.

• Help your little turkeys not be little jerkys: To ensure a pleasant travel experience for parents traveling with small children, as well as for Unaccompanied Minors, Southwest asks you to take a few minutes and visit southwest.com’s Taking the Kids™ travel link.

Solid Converter PDF v3.0 Enhances PDF Conversion and Creation Capabilities

New features, including advanced table handling and the ability to create PDFs in any program, make Solid Converter PDF more compatible with Microsoft Office than ever.

Redmond, Washington (PRWEB) November 17, 2005 -- VoyagerSoft, LLC, makers of Solid Documents™ products, today announced the release of Solid Converter® PDF version 3. The new version features advanced PDF conversion and creation capabilities that enhance its compatibility with Microsoft® Office programs, making it easy to convert documents to and from the universally accessible Portable Document Format (PDF).

“Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for our customers to work with PDFs;” said Michael Cartwright, CEO of VoyagerSoft, LLC. “With Solid Converter PDF v3 users can easily import PDF content into Microsoft® Word and Excel®, make edits and changes, and save their files in the PDF format again after editing. There’s no need to learn or own other software to take advantage of the power of PDF.”

The new version of the product features:
• Enhanced conversion output. Now more than ever, Solid Converter PDF v3.0 provides extremely high-quality conversions that are easy to edit in Word or Excel. Technological improvements in the program have improved the quality of extracted graphics, character formatting, font handling and font matching. The integrity of the original file is maintained, eliminating the need for reformatting and rework.
• Advanced table handling. Users can now extract tables from PDF files directly into Excel spreadsheets to access and re-use data. Users can also open PDF files with tables into Microsoft Word, where each table is handled as a separate object that can be easily changed using Word’s table manipulation features.
• Create PDF from any program. In the new Professional version of Solid Converter PDF users can create PDFs from any Windows program. (As in previous versions, users of the Standard version can create PDFs directly from Microsoft Word.) Newly created PDF files can be compressed for faster downloading on the Web and protected by adding passwords to open or edit documents.

Thus, a common use scenario might be the following: A user extracts a PDF table to an Excel spreadsheet, makes updates to the data, and adds new formulas. Because of the compatibility of Microsoft products, the new converted table can then be imported and re-used in other Office programs such as Word or PowerPoint. The new document is then saved as a compressed PDF and displayed on the company’s Web site.

Solid Converter PDF has been a successful and trusted product for years, backed by first-class customer service. As one of our many appreciative customers recently told us, “Good buys are hard to find; this is one of them.”

Feature List:
• Extract tables to Excel
• Extract all images to common graphics files formats – JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP, or TIF
• Create PDFs from ANY Windows program (Professional version only)
• Supports new Word and Excel XML formats used in Office 12
• One-button PDF creation from Word
• One-button PDF creation from Excel and PowerPoint® (Professional version only)
• Converts the entire PDF file at once, or, you can choose specific pages to be recovered
• Matches PDF fonts with Microsoft® Windows® installed fonts
• Re-flows content from column to column, and page to page
• Replicates the PDF page layout including tables
• Retains fonts, character formatting and paragraphs
• Enhanced table conversion in Microsoft Word
• Plain Text option that removes layout and character-level formatting, if desired
• Converts vector graphics to embedded, editable vector objects in Word

Availability and Pricing:

Solid Converter PDF is available directly through Solid Documents®, the Solid Documents global network of reseller partners, and major software retailers. Solid Converter PDF v3 is available in $59.95 and $99.95 (Professional) versions for individual users, with volume discounts available through the Solid Documents Enterprise License Program. For additional information on features, pricing, and volume licensing programs, please visit www.solidpdf.com or call (1) 800-880-2654.

BPS: Homeland Security; Protecting our Borders through Biometrics, RFID, Surveillance and Sensor Technology

Homeland Security Focused on Addressing Illegal Immigration and Terrorism through Stronger Borders and Ports

(PRWEB) November 17, 2005 -- www.BorderAndPortSecurity.com (BPS), and www.HomelandDefenseStocks.com (HDS), investor news portals for border, port and Homeland Security, report on the nation’s focus on innovative technology to address illegal immigration and terrorist activity. Industry expert Brian Ruttenbur, Equity Research Analyst, Morgan Keegan & Co. Inc. provides insight and sector participants L3 Communications/SYColeman, SENSE Holdings and Law Enforcement Associates, discuss inside perspectives on the direction of this critical area within Homeland Security.

Article Excerpt: Homeland Security - Protecting our Borders and Ports through Biometric, RFID, Sensor and Surveillance Technology

Securing our ports and borders has become a major focus of Homeland Security, in particular since the events of 9/11. President Bush has made addressing problems with illegal immigration, terrorist activities, and illegal smuggling of weapons and drugs a high level priority of border and port security.

A key initiative towards the achievement of secure borders and ports to ensure the facilitation of lawful travel and trade, an accurate immigration system and the overall protection of visitors and citizens is the U.S. Visit program.

“The biometric side of the business is going to grow extremely fast all because of the enhanced border and visa security act that was passed in 2002 by Congress, which is forcing every country in the entire world to go with biometric sensors and biometric travel documents,” explains Homeland security technology expert Brian Ruttenbur, Equity Research Analyst, Morgan Keegan & Co.
