Journalists Find Revenue Beyond the Newsroom with OSINT
ComLinks, the Fusion of Newsroom and Open Source Intelligence. Newsrooms and freelance journalists are realizing the unproductive information sitting in their computers is the raw material of OSINT, or Open Source Intelligence, and valuable to companies around the world. Many are signing on to the ComLinks OSINT Network and making their skills available for companies and organizations worldwide.
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) December 27, 2005 -- Savvy News Directors, investigative journalists, freelancers, and news bureaus are realizing the unproductive information sitting in their computers is the raw material of a booming new industry, that of Open Source Intelligence (OSINT). The world of journalism is shrinking rapidly, thanks to takeovers, downsizing and the changing face of electronic media, but OSINT companies, in the business intelligence or competitive intelligence fields are growing by leaps and bounds. That validated information is decaying in value by the hour, and in most cases has already been paid for. The ComLinks plan is to recycle and reuse that information as the raw material for corporate client's OSINT programs.
Alan Simpson, President of Communication Links, Inc. who pioneered the fusion of newsrooms and OSINT analysis is often asked the difference between investigative journalists and OSINT. His answer is “None! In fact ex journalists make the best OSINT Analysts. They are used to wading through misinformation and hype, to get at the facts underneath, especially those from trade publications.” he explains. ”We experimented as early as 1985 with what has become to be known as OSINT, and developed the fusion of newsroom and in depth analysis.”
He has developed the ComLinks OSINT Network, staffed mainly by current and ex investigative journalists, as well as legislative, economic and technology experts, to meet the needs of US and international industry, investment banks, and private clients. Most work from home using the ComLinks web based Intranet. The OSINT Center is the newsroom of the future, highly focused, and using the benefits of distributed technologies to create a world wide net for news and expert in-depth analysis.
The speed of modern commerce, and global competition means the successful players in every industry need to know, where the industry is going, what their competitors are up to, and what analysts predict their future intentions could be. Investment Bankers and Hedge Funds need to know which are the companies and industries with growth potential, and which are in decline. Politicians too are of keen interest to corporate planners, and trends in rule making and environmental, or commercial legislation can make or break a corporation.
What has changed since those early trials in 1985 is that OSINT has now entered the mainstream, and thousands of new analysts are recruited every year. Even the US Government has finally accepted it’s value and allocated $2 Billion to develop resources. But this government spending is dwarfed by the tens of billions spent on OSINT by corporations in the USA and around the world, estimated at over $50 Billion, directly and indirectly. Now there is a shortage of qualified collectors and analysts.
A database of resumes has been created to provide corporations access to expertise in report writing, investigation, and analysis for special assignments. Often these relate to a particular industry such as aviation, telecommunications, pharmaceutical or to a specific geographical location, such as New Orleans, China, India, US Rust Belt, or Silicon Valley. All companies and organizations need to know about the environment around them, and detailed projections on important scenarios. The rate of clean up after Hurricane Katrina is a good example, should companies rebuild, or relocate?
As a Member of the National Press Club in Washington, Alan Simpson has seen hundreds of experienced journalists put out of work these past few years, and that accumulation of years of experience and knowledge lost to the world. That knowledge may be just the information Corporate America is needing for their strategic planning.
For 2006 the ComLinks team are planning OSINT’06 “Beyond the Newsroom” to showcase the fusion of journalists, writers, software providers, and the corporate intelligence providers.

Mars Houston Awards Banquet Features Speaker from MIT and The 4Frontiers Corporation
The Mars Houston Banquet was established to recognize individuals who make important contributions towards the future exploration of the Moon, Mars, Asteroids, and beyond. It is at this annual banquet that we celebrate those individuals who toil for little or no payment, doing hard work in hope of receiving eternal glory. Join us as we recognize this year’s award recipients, celebrating their efforts to push the envelope and to help us explore the mysteries of space and beyond.
(PRWEB) December 28, 2005 -- Mr. Joseph E. Palaia IV and his team members at the 4Frontiers Corporation and at the Mars Foundation are striving to open the space frontier for humanity. These dreamers have a vision which may hold the promise for the future exploration and settlement of the solar system. Mr. Palaia will be the keynote speak at this year’s banquet and will share this vision, explaining the steps 4Frontiers is taking to make it a reality.
"We will settle Mars, and develop and explore the inner solar system, one step at a time," says Joseph Palaia, pioneer and co-founder of the 4Frontiers Corporation, a commercial effort to settle the planet Mars and enable the economic development of the inner solar system. Passionate about achieving 4Frontiers’ goals, Joe is not afraid to be an underdog of underdogs. He has challenged the likes of SpaceX to put Elon Musk's money where his philosophy is by funding extraterrestrial settlement efforts. He has also called on the Space Generation to work cooperatively, writing, "For a community with such seemingly long range vision, it is surprisingly unable on many occasions to look past petty differences and work together for the common goal. How does it help to fight against one another? The pro-space exploration, development, and settlement community is far too small as it is. If we have any hope for success, we must see past our differences and work together, presenting a unified front." In addition to the Space Generation community, Joe has made his voice heard in a recent Small World Podcast and in a live interview on SpaceAlumni.com
Mr. Palaia holds a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and is presently completing a masters degree in Nuclear Engineering at MIT. A long time Mars and space exploration enthusiast, he has helped to design and build six robots, competing in the FIRST National Robotics Competition. He has held a research assistantship at the MIT Plasma Science & Fusion Center, investigating plasma fuel reformers for just-in-time hydrogen generation and is presently conducting research and experimentation at the MIT Space Propulsion Laboratory on a Mini-Helicon Plasma Thruster. He was also responsible for the nuclear and electrical engineering disciplines on the program study team of the Mars Foundation's Mars Homestead Project.

Alsbridge Conducts Outsourcing Supplier Think-tank that Reveals that Traditional Procurement Processes are Leading to Sub-optimal BPO Deals
Alsbridge, the Independent Advisors on Outsourcing, Shared Services and Offshoring, today publishes the findings from a recently completed Supplier Think-tank focused on the industry’s mainstream procurement process. The think-tank, which took place in November 2005, drew together ten BPO experts from different Supplier companies to discuss the BPO sourcing process.
London, UK (PRWEB) December 20, 2005 -- Alsbridge, the Independent Advisors on Outsourcing, Shared Services and Offshoring, today publishes the findings from a recently completed Supplier Think-tank focused on the industry’s mainstream procurement process. The findings suggest there is something very wrong with the traditional buying and contracting process, particularly in the more complex world of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO).
The think-tank, which took place in November 2005, drew together ten BPO experts from different Supplier companies to discuss the BPO sourcing process. Facilitated by Alsbridge, the Suppliers met to discuss the matter and compiled a comprehensive list of what in their view is wrong with traditional procurement practices in the field of outsourcing. They were then asked to produce five key recommendations to overcome these problems and help achieve sustainable solutions for all parties involved.
Key conclusions drawn from the Supplier Think-tank include:
· Cumbersome and costly procurement processes are producing sub-optimal, price-based solutions framed by adversarial relationships
· Radical new approaches are needed in the engagement phase to produce the right solution supported by the right deal
· Advisory companies can play a key role in changing the market, but some have to significantly change their practices, which are currently creating and exacerbating the problem
To view the results of the Supplier Think-tank in full click here:
www.alsbridge.com/outsourcing_supplier_thinktank.shtml
Alsbridge Managing Partner, Tim Lloyd, comments, “We’ve seen time and time again that the expectations set at inception are not being met due to the way in which the supplier/client relationship is managed. Alsbridge has taken steps to formalize a more flexible, partnership approach we have been following for quite a while that utilizes Sourcing Alignment Sessions (SAS) which enable client and suppliers to work together in a collaborative manner. We believe this approach speeds the deal process, optimizes delivery solutions, and creates robust working relationships – therefore resulting in sustainable deals which deliver the results expected.”
Tim Lloyd, quoted above, is a Founding Partner of Alsbridge with highly acclaimed experience throughout the BPO industry. Prior to founding Alsbridge, Tim held several distinguished positions in the outsourcing industry to include: global BPO leader at Capgemini, founding partner of Ernst & Young’s BPO practice, and one of the founders of the PwC BPO business.
For details of Alsbridge’s upcoming “Intermediary” and “Client-side” Think-tank meetings as part of this series, contact Helen Ricardo at Tel: +44 (0) 20 7242 0666.

Rent-A-Scope Slashes the Cost of Remote Observing to Within the Reach of most Amateur Astronomers
Adoption of a unique pricing plan augments large block volume pricing plans with the ability to also purchase small quantities of observing time.
Fountain Valley, Ca. (PRWEB) December 19, 2005 -- Rent-a-scope, a major provider of astronomical observing resources for members of the RAS Observatory of New Mexico and the general public, announced today a unique addition to the new, currently available points pricing plan.
The points plan provides access to the 5 sophisticated Takahashi telescopes mounted on remotely operated state-of-the-art robotic Paramounts telescope mounts. These high performance devices are produced by Software Bisque of Colorado, http://www.bisque.com/ and equipped with sensitive electronic detectors by SBIG (Santa Barbara Instrument Group) http://www.sbig.com/ and FLI (Finger Lakes Instruments) http://www.fli-cam.com/.
Arnie Rosner, Owner and operator of Rent-a-scope, which is based at the RAS Observatory http://www.ras-observatory.org/, located at 7300 feet in the Southern Sacramento Mountains, in New Mexico, stated, “The new points plan was actually suggested by one of our users. We have been developing this concept for close to a year.”
Rent-a-scope is hosted by New Mexico Skies, http://216.167.158.207/index.html.
Mr. Rosner commented, “Our billing system is designed to track activity by the minute. If you couple that with the fact that our camera systems are so efficient we find many researchers are able to capture their science data within minutes. This ability allows some to accomplish their research objectives on a very small budget. This is factor that has permitted us to offer points attractively bundled in small quantities. The minimum package is for 25 points at a cost of $50.00 USD.”
Here are links a few examples of the incredible data gathering abilities of some of our systems:
http://www.martin-nicholson.info/ras/30secondsa.htm
http://www.martin-nicholson.info/ras/60seconds.htm
Rosner went on to add, “The concept is really quite simple. For an example, at the current time one point is equal to one minute. A typical telescope system is being billed-out at 60 points per hour. The beauty of this program is that under certain circumstances we can adjust the number of points charged per hour to suit the conditions. For instance we will reduce the number of points billed per hour at a time of full Moon.”
Rosner continued, “If this all works out as we suspect, then researchers capable of performing certain types of activities not affected by the bright Moon will be afforded the opportunity to stretch their research funding. At the same time we gain as well since this would keep our systems in operation during a period which is usually non-productive.”
Here are a few more highlights about current new developments at the RAS Observatory:
• Recently several systems at the observatory were outfitted with additional photometric, narrowband filters and improved guiding capabilities.
• Also of major newsworthy attention is the soon to be added system designated as AREO6. AREO6 is currently under final testing and should be on line within the next 30 days. This system is located in the southern hemisphere near Queensland, Australia.

New Plant for the Production of High Concentration Hydrogen Peroxide
Peroxide Propulsion out of Gothenburg, Sweden has been granted all required government permits for the production of 100 ton (= 220 000 pounds) 90% concentration hydrogen peroxide per year. Plant construction has started and rocket grade hydrogen peroxide will be available in April 2006.
Gothenburg, Sweden (PRWEB) December 16, 2005 -- Peroxide Propulsion has been granted all required government permits for the production of 100 ton (= 220 000 pounds) 90% concentration hydrogen peroxide per year.
Lower grade hydrogen peroxide will be concentrated to 80-90% concentration in the plant and treated in special processes to receive very pure products well suited for gas generation and rocket propulsion. Commonly used names of the products are Rocket Grade Hydrogen Peroxide and HTP (High Test Peroxide).
Construction of the new plant located in Gothenburg, Sweden, has started. Products will be available from April 2006. Peroxide Propulsion will be the first commercial producer in the Nordic countries and one of only three in the western world.
Background Information
High concentration hydrogen peroxide is a very environmental friendly fuel. The energy is released when the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is made to decompose to hot water steam and oxygen in contact with a catalyst. The hot gas mixture is allowed to expand in a rocket nozzle, gas turbine or a piston engine.
The only "exhaust gases" are water and oxygen.
Hydrogen peroxide is manufactured from the renewable raw materials hydrogen and oxygen. The manufacturing process is practically effluent free.
Propulsion systems using only hydrogen peroxide as a fuel have a very low weight compared to standard combustion engines, but they have higher fuel consumption. They are perfectly suited when high power is needed during limited periods of time, as in vertical take-offs of helicopters and gyroplanes. Other spectacular applications are for drag racing cars and for personal rocket belts.
The energy yield is higher when the oxygen in the exhaust gas is used to burn an organic fuel, like ethanol. One example of such a propulsion system is the system used in the Swedish torpedoes manufactured by SAAB, TWS 2000.
Peroxide Propulsion has developed its own versions of the hydrogen peroxide decomposition catalyst, in addition to a propulsion system for helicopter and gyroplane rotors with hydrogen peroxide rotor tip rockets. Air plane propellers can also be driven with this system.

Southwest Airlines to Expand Codeshare Agreement with ATA Airlines to Include DFW Airport
Dallas, TX (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) December 15, 2005 -- Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) announced today it will expand its current ATA Airlines codeshare agreement to include ATA flights from DFW Airport to Chicago Midway Airport.
Southwest Customers will be able to book transportation on ATA's three daily nonstop flights from DFW to many destinations in the Southwest system via Chicago Midway Airport with a single ticketing option and through either airline.
"We are excited to expand ours and ATA's North Texas presence and offer travelers Southwest's legendary low fares," said Gary Kelly, Southwest Airlines CEO. "Southwest itself will continue to exclusively serve our Dallas Love Field home, but the expansion of our codeshare agreement with ATA Airlines to DFW gives our Customers access to many Southwest destinations available from Chicago Midway Airport."
Southwest plans to make this service available for sale on Jan. 3, 2006, and the new codeshare flights will begin Jan. 11, 2006. Flights can be booked via southwest.com or through Southwest Airlines reservations at
1-800-I-FLY-SWA. When the service begins, a range of fares will be available, from very low advance purchase fares to unrestricted walkup fares.
From Chicago Midway, travelers will have the option of connecting to many of Southwest's 42 nonstop destinations such as: Albany, Baltimore/Washington, Buffalo, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Hartford/Springfield, Indianapolis, Long Island/Islip, Louisville, Manchester, Norfolk, Omaha, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Providence, and Raleigh/Durham. Chicago Midway, with 196 daily nonstop departures, is tied as Southwest's second busiest airport in terms of daily departures.
"Southwest still has no interest in splitting our operation between Dallas Love Field and DFW Airport," Kelly said. "We will continue our efforts to repeal the anti-consumer, anti-competitive Wright Amendment, which restricts our Love Field service. Given the success Southwest has had with the ATA codeshare agreement in other cities, along with the route restructuring underway at ATA, and the progress we've made in repealing the Wright Amendment, it now makes sense to add DFW Airport to our list of codeshare cities. With the high fares prevailing at DFW Airport, I know our travelers will be delighted with this new, low-fare service."
The codeshare means that Southwest and ATA Airlines will exchange passengers and their checked baggage at Chicago Midway Airport.
Southwest Airlines started the codeshare service with ATA Airlines in February 2005 by first offering connecting service in Chicago. That relationship was further expanded to include codeshare service through Phoenix and Las Vegas. Via the codeshare agreement, destinations such as Honolulu, Maui, New York's LaGuardia Airport, and Washington, D.C.'s Reagan National Airport are available to Southwest Customers.
This week, Southwest began new nonstop service out of Dallas Love Field -- the first new nonstops from Dallas in 25 years -- to Kansas City and to St. Louis, with fares starting as low as $79 one-way (*see fare rules). For more information on how travelers can help in the fight to repeal the Wright Amendment, visit http://www.setlovefree.com .
Southwest Airlines, the nation's largest carrier in terms of domestic passengers enplaned, currently serves 61 cities in 31 states. Based in Dallas, Southwest currently operates nearly 3,000 flights a day and has 31,000+ Employees systemwide.
*Fare rules: Fares are available one-way with 14-day advance purchase. Seats are limited. Fares may vary by destination and day of travel. Fares do not include a federal segment tax of up to $3.30 per takeoff and landing. Fares do not include airport-assessed passenger facility charges (PFCs) of up to $9 one-way and U.S. government-imposed September 11th Security Fees of up to $5 one-way. Fares are subject to change until ticketed. Tickets are nonrefundable but may be applied toward the purchase of future travel on Southwest Airlines. Fares are valid on Southwest-operated published, scheduled service only and are not available through the Group Desk. Any change in itinerary may result in an increase in fare.

This allows the ASL system to provide meaningful digital data on multiple surfaces in a large environment.
Bedford, MA (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) December 15, 2005 -- Research scientists in such fields as sports, training, aerospace, and human movement now have the benefit of long range, high accuracy eye-head integration through the combined efforts of Applied Science Laboratories (ASL), and NDI, developer of the Optotrak Certus system. Optotrak Certus integrates ASL’s eye tracking and EYEHEAD™ integration technology with NDI’s head tracking technology, which allows the subject to move over a greater distance while being tracked. This allows the ASL system to provide meaningful digital data on multiple surfaces in a large environment.
The Optotrak Certus accurately tracks a subject’s head location and orientation. The ASL eye-tracker determines the pupil’s orientation. The combined and synchronized information from the Optotrak Certus with integrated ASL eye-tracker allows an analyst to determine the 3D coordinate of the subject’s point of gaze. Up to 0.15 mm 3D positional accuracy can be achieved as the subject ambulates throughout the study environment. This information, along with the ASL eye tracker information, is used to determine where the subject is looking at all times. The eye-gaze information is stored digitally and can be quickly processed to determine the behavior of the test subject. Also, the information can be processed in real-time to facilitate interactive feedback into research.
With eye-head integration, time consuming frame-by-frame examination of video data is no longer required to determine a subject’s point of gaze. Additional information can be captured synchronously with the eye-gaze information, such as: position, orientation, velocity and acceleration of body segments or objects within the environment.
ASL has the only true EYEHEAD™ integration, which is combined eye and head tracking. EYEHEAD™ Integration is necessary to record eye position on multiple surfaces in 3-D space. This leading edge technology allows the acquisition of digital data (horizontal and vertical eye position plus eye to point of fixation distance) that specifies point of gaze with respect to stationary objects in the environment. EYEHEAD™ integration solves the 3 dimensional, 6 degree of freedom problem of finding the line-of-gaze vector in space and solving for its intersections with multiple flat surfaces. The ASL eye tracking system is the only one integrated with Optotrak that can provide digital data specifying point of gaze on target planes without restricting the subject's motion.
Established 25 years ago, NDI is trusted by international leaders in medicine, industry and research for the accuracy and reliability of its measurement technology. NDI systems are used in applications from computer-assisted therapy to aeronautics; from quality inspection to human motion research. Today, the company is a world leader in advanced 3D measurement technology with over 8,000 installations in more than 30 countries around the world. For more information, visit www.ndigital.com.
Applied Science Laboratories has been a pioneer in the examination of the human eye’s movements and pupil dynamics for over 30 years. ASL was the first company to develop a head-mounted eye tracker, eye/head integration, parallax-free optics, and many other features that are industry standard. Three Tenors Hitting High Notes? Try Five Hunters Shooting For The Stars!
Introducing The Asteroid Hunters From RAS Observatory
Fountain Valley, CA (PRWEB) December 15, 2005 -- Everyone knows about the Three Tenors. But at the RAS Observatory, everyone’s singing about the Five Hunters.
These top-notch amateur astronomers from around the world have formed a Web-based partnership dedicated to sharing information about discovering new, potentially Earth-threatening asteroids. Thanks to their hawk-eyed persistence, these asteroid hunters have discovered literally hundreds of previously unknown asteroids. Fortunately, none of these rocky lumps have proven dangerous.
But the peril is always there; more than 120,437 asteroids have been catalogued – leaving an unknown number still swirling capriciously in space; as evidenced by the near impact of a 100’-diameter asteroid that streaked by in 2004, just 26,500 miles from Earth. It had been detected only three days prior to its fly-by. And that’s precisely the type of interplanetary beast the Five Hunters are determined to track down.
Though working in different parts of the world, all Five Hunters met through their use of the RAS Observatory – a high-quality, New Mexico-based observatory that rents access time to professional and amateur astronomers over the Internet.
Through RAS’ website, Ernesto Guido of Castellammare di Stabia, near Naples, Italy; Andrew Lowe of Calgary, Canada; Ulrich Wolff of Berlin, Germany; Robert Hutsebaut of Brussels, Belgium; and Jeffrey Sue of Honolulu, Hawaii, all met and began posting information and sharing observational techniques about their asteroid-hunting activities.
And prodigious hunters they are. Andrew Lowe, 46, a noted Calgary geophysicist, has discovered over 250 asteroids – 110 in the past year alone.
Robert Hutsebaut, 63, of Brussels, has submitted over 1,000+ astrometric measures of 300 newly discovered NEO’s. A number of these NEO confirmations can be seen as 2004 A/CC cover photographs at www.hohmanntransfer.com/news.htm. Robert also discovered 13 new main belt objects in 2005.
Ulrich Wolff, 42, a land surveyor by day, discovered three asteroids in the early part of the year, including a main belt minor planet, 2005 BF2.
And Jeffrey Sue, a radiologist based in Honolulu, Hawaii, has the discovery of a main belt asteroid 2005 NV14 to his credit. He and Lowe were among those who tracked and photographed the extremely fast-moving 2005 FN asteroid. The photographic animation of this high-speed object can be seen at http://www.ras-observatory.org/ras/Research/ICRAR/Observers/2005FNjs/2005fnjs.html.
All Five Hunters continue to attribute much of their success to the RAS Observatory, which has close to 1,400 NEO observations to the credit of its observers.
In fact, Ulrich Wolff, the founding father of the Five Hunters, helped the observatory earn its H06 designation code by submitting his RAS observations and measurements to the Minor Planet Center – the international oversight committee for confirming and monitoring minor bodies in the solar system.
The RAS Observatory rents time to amateur astronomers who can access the same high-quality remote facilities that are currently also enjoyed by professional astronomers.
Located under the clear, dark skies of New Mexico, the observatory provides access to five sophisticated Takahashi telescope systems on Paramount robotic mounts, with sensitive CCD cameras and specialized filters available for various astrometric and astrophotographic projects – all of which can be accessed and controlled by individual users around the world via the Internet.
No special equipment or software is required to use the observatory; anyone with a computer – regardless of their level of astronomic experience – can quickly and easily learn to access and photograph deep space objects.
Partnering with the Five Hunters, the RAS Observatory posts many of their findings on its website. Plus it offers downloadable web-based seminars, such as Andrew Lowe’s discourse on Asteroid Discovery at www.ras-observatory.org/ras/Web_Seminars/web_seminars.html.
There are over 3,700 near-Earth orbiting objects, of which 736 are classified as potentially hazardous. Fortunately, there are Five Hunters out scanning the skies virtually every clear night. After all – asteroid Number 737 may be just around the corner, and these guys are looking to be the ones who bring it down.
For more information about the Five Hunters, visit the RAS Observatory website at www.ras-observatory.org. Additional information can be acquired by calling a live observatory representative at 714-501-8247, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Voice Tracker Array Microphone Endorsed by InquireTec for Use with Voice-Driven 4D Databases
InquireTec Software LLC, provider of the Inquire4D plug-ins for building voice-driven databases in 4th Dimension, has elected to endorse and resell the Voice Tracker™ Array Microphone because it enables voice control from a distance without the encumbrance of a headset or handheld mic.
Delhi, CA, December 13, 2005 - InquireTec Software LLC, provider of the Inquire4D plug-ins for building voice-driven databases in 4th Dimension, has elected to endorse and resell the Voice Tracker™ Array Microphone.
RJ Sharp, founder of InquireTec, states, "Our focus is helping database developers build speech interfaces which are practical, and the ability to not be tethered to your desk is a key factor. It’s a neat experience to be across the room and have a working conversation with your system”.
According to Bob Feingold, CEO of Acoustic Magic, “the Voice Tracker™ is ideal for voice control because its unique technology locates a talker, and electronically steers a "listening beam", like an acoustic searchlight, in that direction. This creates spatial filtering; sounds from other parts of the room are not picked up. This noise reduction, coupled with increased sensitivity since the Voice Tracker's eight microphone elements are utilized continuously and constructively, give the Voice Tracker™ outstanding range and sound quality”.
Sharp adds, “Inquire4D utilizes many large language models, including those which allow the spoken entry of date, time, and numeric values. When using the Voice Tracker™, the recognition accuracy is impressive - even while moving about the room”.
About InquireTec Software LLC (www.inquire4d.com)
InquireTec is a speech-interface tool supplier based in the California Central Valley, empowering developers to create voice-driven databases using the 4D environment for both Windows and Mac OS X. Built by an international consortium, the Beijing-1 completes the constellation of five low-cost satellites designed to provide daily images of the Earth, AlSAT-1 (2002), BILSAT (2003), NigeriaSat (2003), UK-DMC (2003), and Beijing-1 (2005). The satellites are equally spaced in a polar orbit allowing the Earth to be photographed in a short period of time. Beijing-1 combines a multi-spectral camera with a high-resolution panchromatic imager to generate detailed images of the earth. Once it joins the other members of the constellation, it will operate for roughly five years to help monitor worldwide natural and man-made disasters, along with the observation of the environment and water resources.
Developed in collaboration with SSTL, Marotta’s propulsion systems are used in the orbit phasing, station keeping and attitude control. Products include fill and drain valves, propellant storage tanks for butane, high-performance miniature solenoid isolating valves as well as thrust control valves qualified with SSTL Low Power Resisto Jet Thruster. To eliminate liquid sloshing effects, Xenon gas is used as the propellant for Beijing-1. Marotta low-pressure miniature solenoid isolation valves and pulse operated control valves were further developed for high-pressure duty in the SSTL “bang-bang” pressure regulator.
“We have been working closely with SSTL and are proud to be a contributing force to this exciting program,” said Michael Leahan, Vice President and Chief Sales Officer of Marotta. “We understand the harsh environment of space, and have a long history as a major international supplier of fluid controls to satellite programs. This program represents our continued commitment to the development of our propulsion technology.”

U.S. Navy E-2C Maintenance Community Validates Performance Support Technology Can Cut Costs and Reduce Aircraft Cannibalizations
The U.S. Navy E-2C “Hawkeye” aircraft community completed a pilot test of the MaintenanceMax™ performance support system (PSS) for AN/APS-145 radar transmitter maintenance and found that the PSS reduced troubleshooting time by 50%, increased fault diagnosis accuracy by 30%, and reduced costly radar cannibalization actions by an estimated 23,000 man hours per year.
(PRWEB) December 10, 2005 -- The U.S.
The pilot, sponsored by the Naval Personnel Development Command (NPDC), located in Norfolk, Virginia, tested the performance of both junior and master aircraft technicians equipped with MaintenanceMax against technicians equipped with standard technical manuals and validated that significant performance gains in terms of productivity and maintenance quality are possible using the performance support system. NPDC and its dominant command, the Naval Education and Training Command, are focusing on performance support technology to address the applied knowledge and refresher training requirements of cross-trained “hybrid sailors” as part of the Navy’s Human Capital Strategy.
“This performance support technology test validates the fact that sailors work faster and identify faulty components more accurately when they are provided with a maintenance tool that arranges information according to how they actually conduct maintenance,” states Roger LaPlante, MaintenanceMax Program Manager. “Standard interactive electronic technical manuals can’t provide maintenance communities with such dramatic performance gains because they aren’t designed from a maintainer’s perspective.”
MaintenanceMax performance support technology provides E-2C maintainers with formally-approved troubleshooting instructions integrated with interactive wiring diagrams, short animated training clips, detailed component location diagrams, and technical tips or expert “gouge” collected from master technicians, all delivered on compact, rugged computers.
“The primary factor in the success of this performance support system initiative for the E-2C community is the active involvement of the maintenance technicians themselves,” says LaPlante. “The E-2C technicians helped design the process model for the performance support system from the ground up to guarantee that it meets their number one maintenance concern: speed of data access.”
Improving data access speed and maintenance work speed on the flight line helps ensure that E-2C aircraft are affordably maintained and rendered fully mission capable in the least amount of time, the Navy’s definition of “cost-wise readiness.”
It is anticipated that the E-2C MaintenanceMax performance support system development and deployment effort will continue through 2006, encompassing data for the entire AN/APS-145 radar set.

Southwest Airlines CEO Discusses Chicago Midway Incident
Southwest Airlines' CEO Gary Kelly discussed the Chicago Midway incident this morning.
Dallas, TX (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) December 9, 2005 -- Southwest Airlines' (NYSE: LUV) CEO Gary Kelly discussed the Chicago Midway incident this morning. Kelly extended Southwest's heartfelt sympathies to those who were directly affected by the events of last night.
"This is a sad day for us here," said Kelly. "There are no words to adequately convey our grief and sorrow over this tragedy. It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of a child who was in one of the vehicles hit by the aircraft. The entire Southwest family is grieving this loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to the child's family."
Last night, Flight 1248 was involved in an incident at Chicago Midway Airport at approximately 7:15 p.m. CST while the aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, was landing. The aircraft veered off the runway and through the blast fence at the northwest corner of the runway -- stopping at the intersection of Central and 55th Avenues. The weather conditions at the time could be described as one-quarter to one-half mile visibility with snow. The flight, which was on arrival from Baltimore/Washington International Airport, was scheduled to continue on to Las Vegas and Salt Lake City.
Flights into and out of Chicago Midway were cancelled for the remainder of the evening and our Employees are working hard to reaccommodate those passengers that were affected. Southwest resumed operations at Chicago Midway at 6:00 a.m. this morning.
The majority of the 13 injured have been treated and released from local hospitals. Southwest is still collecting and verifying injury reports, but at this time we have three individuals who are still receiving treatment at local hospitals.
"Southwest will do everything in our power to provide information and comfort to those who have been affected," said Kelly. "It is still too early to speculate as to a cause before the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) can complete a thorough investigation."
Southwest Airlines Employees are in the process of contacting the families of the passengers and crewmembers as well as those affected on the ground. A team of 94 trained Southwest Employees arrived in Chicago at 3:25 a.m. CST this morning and are working closely with the NTSB and the FAA as they perform their investigations. Another Team of Southwest's top leadership is departing for Chicago Midway momentarily. Gary Kelly will conduct the next media briefing from Chicago.
Southwest Airlines' immediate concern is with those affected both on the aircraft and on the ground. Southwest Airlines Employees are in the process of contacting the families of passengers and crewmembers, as well as those affected on the ground. Southwest Airlines has deployed an aircraft of Employees to assist passengers of Flight 1248. Passenger names will not be released until the appropriate family members have been notified.

New Book Telling How Companies Can Save Money Has 58 Contributors
How many people does it take to write a book full of ways for companies to save? At least 58, according the the publisher of a new book that does just that called THE BIG SQUEEZE.
(PRWEB) December 8, 2005 -- Management consultant Patricia E. Moody was looking for ways to save her clients money when she came up with a big idea. Why not start a blog for executives to share ideas? She set one up and was overwhelmed with the response. Hundreds of executives from around the world posted ideas, so many good ones Moody decided to take the best of the best, cull out duplication, get authors’ permissions, and edit the material into a book. The result is called THE BIG SQUEEZE: TEN WAYS YOUR COMPANY CAN SAVE 10% OF ITS EXPENSES RIGHT NOW. There are actually many more than ten ways. Moody organized the material into ten categories or directions companies of all types and sizes can take.
David P.Steiner, Chief Executive of Waste Management Inc. said of the book, “[It’s filled with powerful and proven approaches for companies to leverage their spend and generate cash to drive profits and growth. At Waste Management, our procurement team [used the ideas and proved that supply management can turn around a company and return it to profitability and growth.”
THE BIG SQUEEZE has been issued in hardcover, retails for $23.95, and can be purchased at the publisher’s Website, http://www.LeanTransformation.com or on Amazon.com. The International Standard Book Number is 1-892538-45-8.

Las Vegas Audio and Video Production Company Selected to Produce DARPA Grand Challenge
DAV Productions, a Las Vegas-based audio, video and lighting production company, recently produced the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) “Grand Challenge,” a 132-mile unmanned vehicle race.
(PRWEB) December 7, 2005 -- DAV Productions, a Las Vegas-based audio, video and lighting production company, recently produced the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) “Grand Challenge,” a 132-mile unmanned vehicle race.
DARPA’s mission for this project is to develop autonomous technologies that allow vehicles to navigate themselves through difficult terrain. Ultimately, the military plans for a large percentage of combat vehicles to function fully-autonomously in the field. In order to serve this end, DAV Productions provided complete event production services and broadcast media coverage for the Grand Challenge event.
In order to provide information to race officials and spectators, cameras were positioned along the course to transmit live images back to the control center at the finish line, where race officials, participants and the thousands of spectators could track the event in real time. DAV Productions added displays for live video content as well as real-time tracking information for the race. “This year we brought the action to the people,” said Amy Quigg, Director of Media Productions, “Because of the extensive coverage that we provided, people were engaged in the race from start to finish. Everyone’s eyes were glued to the monitors.”
“We were able to overcome some challenging logistical obstacles while covering the race,” said Ryan Legue, Director of Sales for DAV Productions. “Most Las Vegas events occur in a single venue—and primarily indoors. But the Grand Challenge took place in the desert where we had to prepare for wind, rain, dust and tent production environments. It took some careful planning and detailed execution, and from a production perspective, our team was able to make the race run flawlessly.”
DAV Productions also created pre-race videos of the contestants, provided a PA system, and integrated content into streaming video for a website that received millions of hits during the race.
In addition, the company produced a highlight video of the event that is currently being shown in the lobby of the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
DAV Productions is a Las Vegas-based production company, serving the video and media needs of agencies and corporate clients, as well as the staging, labor and coordination requirements of tradeshows, conventions and special events. With a recent $1 million investment in cutting-edge audio, lighting and video technology, DAV Productions provides one of the most complete production solutions in Las Vegas. DAV Productions can be reached at 702-795-8805 or visited online http://www.davproductions.com

A Four Hour Fire Rating Is Achieved With The Tyfo® Advanced Fire Protection System
Fyfe Company has conducted an extensive research and development project that concluded with a Four Hour Fire Rating for Tyfo® Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP) with the Tyfo® Advanced Fire Protection (AFP) System. The Tyfo® AFP System created by Fyfe Company is a two part system designed to, not only minimize heat exposure, but to also provide flame and smoke spread protection as well.
(PRWEB) December 7, 2005 -- Fyfe Company has conducted an extensive research and development project that concluded with a Four Hour Fire Rating for Tyfo® Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP) with the Tyfo® Advanced Fire Protection (AFP) System. The Tyfo® AFP System created by Fyfe Company is a two part system designed to, not only minimize heat exposure, but to also provide flame and smoke spread protection as well. (http://www.fyfeco.com)
“Five Years ago FRP structural strengthening was limited by strict fire regulations for occupied buildings. Now Fyfe Company has overcome those limitations by inventing a new fireproofing material consisting of a cementatious component coupled with a hardened rock outer layer that provides up to a 4 hour fire rating with UL Approval and excellent flame and smoke spread protection,” said Ed Fyfe, President of Fyfe Company LLC (http://www.fyfeco.com)
The research conducted was to find cost effective means to provide fire protection for the Tyfo® Fibrwrap® Systems. Working in conjunction with the National Research Council in Canada and Underwriters Laboratories, Fyfe Company (http://www.fyfeco.com) was able to conduct testing on reinforced concrete columns, beams and slabs while under load and exposed to fire.
A major concern regarding the use of composites for structural strengthening is fire. Elevated temperatures during a fire can cause epoxy resins to soften or burn seriously compromising the structural strength provided by the FRP materials causing failures that could jeopardize the building, building occupants as well as the fire fighting crews.
The Tyfo® AFP System has received Underwriter’s Laboratory Certification to meet the requirements of ASTM E-119 and ASTM E-84 (ASTM is the organization that develops the industry’s standards for fire resistance in buildings). Technical data sheets can be downloaded at http://www.fyfeco.com.
About Fyfe Company and the Tyfo® Fibrwrap® Systems:
Fyfe Company is the manufacturer of the Tyfo® Fibrwrap® Systems. These FRP Systems are used to repair, strengthen and upgrade existing concrete, masonry, steel and wood structures. During the past fifteen years our Tyfo® systems have been used on over 7500 projects throughout all regions of the world.

Terrorism Books: A Nuclear Terrorism Thriller, 'King of Bombs,' Sparks Fear and Praise From Readers
"King of Bombs," a novel about nuclear terrorism, attracts rave reviews from readers on Amazon.com, while arousing fear about an impending Al-Qaeda 9/11 attack on America.
(PRWEB) December 5, 2005 -- "King of Bombs," a novel about nuclear terrorism, attracts rave reviews from readers on Amazon.com, while arousing fear about an impending Al-Qaeda 9/11 attack on America.
"If you find it entertaining to be scared out of your wits, not about some far-out sci-fi scenario but about something that could actually happen to YOU, then you should definitely read Sheldon Filger's book, 'King of Bombs.' At first glance, this book may sound like sci-fi, but the more you learn, the more you realize it's all-too-realistic," wrote a reviewer on Amazon.com, the major on-line Internet bookstore. In a rare achievment for a self-published novel, "King of Bombs" is listed as one of two recommended books on the subject of nuclear terrorism on Amazon.com, only a short time after its publication.(http://www.kingofbombs.com)
What is it about "King of Bombs" that has stimulated high praise from readers? Without question, the topic itself is a factor. With many terrorism experts convinced that it is only a matter of time before Al-Qaeda will attempt to use nuclear bombs in a future attack on an American city, Sheldon Filger's novel explores a largely unspoken but deeply-felt element of fear in post 9/11 America. Indeed, "King of Bombs" is the first serious novel to address the possibility of nuclear terrorism since the Al-Qaeda attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001. Another reason that readers have given for their praise of "King of Bombs" is the research author Sheldon Filger conducted for his terrorism thriller. In the words of a reviewer from Brooklyn, New York, "Filger's astonishing knowledge of the composition and mechanics of nuclear weapons lends an air of credibi
