INUS Technology Begins Shipping rapidformXO Verifier, New 3D Scan-Based Inspection Software

INUS Technology Begins Shipping rapidformXO Verifier, Powerful New 3D Scan Based Inspection Software

Seoul, South Korea (PRWEB) June 25, 2005 -- INUS Technology announced today that it has begun shipping rapidformXO Verifier to customers around the world, bringing a new level of functionality and automation to 3D scan based inspection systems. rapidformXO Verifier (XOV) is the first software on the market designed to completely automate the verification of part geometry using 3D digitizing/scanning technology.

Using rapidformXO Verifier along with a 3D scanner, virtually any object can be digitized and verified for first article inspection, tooling wear analysis, in-line and next-to-line inspection and sample check analysis. With the ability to examine tens of millions of data points for a single part, rapidformXO Verifier can automatically compare the part to a CAD design model or another scanned object, resulting in color deviation maps in 3D or in 2D sectional views. XOV can also automatically perform extensive geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) on parts. All of the inspection results can then be shared with colleagues, suppliers and customers via an incredibly intuitive reporting interface.

As the next generation in 3D scanning software, XOV offers unique advantages, including complete inspection process automation without the use of macros, blazing fast processing speeds, unmatched data handling capacity and a sophisticated new interface that makes the software a pleasure to use. INUS Technology has worked closely with a number of major automotive, electronics and other manufacturers during the development of XOV, building the product to meet the most stringent demands of today's quality assurance professionals.

"Through our broad base of existing RapidForm customers, we have been able to gain unique insight into manufacturers' needs for 3D scan based quality inspection systems," said Seockhoon Bae, CEO of INUS Technology. "Because we've built XOV new from the ground up, we have made a product that meets or exceeds these tough requirements, without being limited by legacy software constraints. The flexibility that the software offers is unparalleled."

As a completely new product, XOV takes advantage of the latest innovations in 3D scanning, including real-time inspection results with liveInspect™, and it can easily handle the increased data densities provided by new 3D scanners. The software's geometric calculation engine has been certified by the PTB and tested by NIST for accuracy. And, crucially, rapidformXO Verifier's entire architecture is designed around one key concept: systematic inspection processing. With a specialized interface and completely parametric architecture, each inspection project is easily managed and fully repeatable for systematic, uniform results every time.

XOV also includes features that make it easy for CMM operators to begin using 3D scanning for inspection. Wolfram Kleuver of CMM maker Heinrich Schneider Messtechnik GmbH remarked "This is the software we've been waiting on for years. rapidformXO Verifier has included all the features we need. The most interesting point is how XOV automatically finds matching geometries between the CAD and scan data, which solves the major problem in point cloud measurement."

Availability
rapidformXO Verifier is immediately available through authorized RapidForm resellers and INUS Technology offices around the world. Free trial versions of XOV and live product demonstrations are available at www.rapidform.com or through any authorized RapidForm representative.

United Kingdom's National Physical Laboratory Deploys Symmetricom Timing Solutions for Critical Accuracy

The UK's national standards organizations trusts the precision of a Symmetricom hydrogen maser clock, NTP Time Servers and Domain Time II Time Synchronization software to provide official, critically accurate time.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB via Overdrive) June 8, 2005 -- Symmetricom (NASDAQ:SYMM), a worldwide leader in precise time and frequency products and services, today announced National Physical Laboratory (NPL), the United Kingdom's national standards organization that maintains the nation's standards for time, deployed Symmetricom's Domain Time II software to monitor the time servers for complete redundancy, reliability and critical accuracy in reporting time to the general public. They also rely on a wide range of Symmetricom precise timing solutions, including their hydrogen maser clock for maintaining standard time as well as four Symmetricom time servers for distributing time across its internal network.

“Our internal clocks and the Symmetricom time servers are as reliable as any time devices in the world, but given the fact that businesses rely on us for providing time, we needed an absolute guarantee of 100-percent accuracy and 24x7 access,” commented Peter Whibberley, senior research scientist for NPL. “Since our international reputation is at stake every time someone requests time from us, we wanted to build an extra level of redundancy into the system. Domain Time II time synchronization software monitors the time servers.”

NPL successfully maintains time with a Symmetricom maser clock and distributes time to the general public via radio signals and dial-up connections. After receiving multiple requests to provide time over the Internet, the organization converted two of the Symmetricom NTP (Network Time Protocol) time servers, giving the general public access to obtain the time.

NPL sought a redundancy solution that would inform them immediately if any problems occurred in the system as well as giving them total control as not to have to rely on any outside sources such as GPS (global positioning system). Having successfully utilized Symmetricom's hydrogen maser clock, as well as two TymServe 2100s and two NTS-200s network time servers, NPL's selection of Domain Time II time synchronization software to monitor the time servers came easy.

"National Physical Laboratory’s measurement research and innovation are respected around the world and play a key role in supporting the competitiveness of UK companies,” commented Paul Skoog, product marketing manager for Symmetricom. “With the high stakes of accuracy, it is critical they maintain precise, accurate and reliable time, with Symmetricom's timing solutions as the most reliable in the world.”

StarVision Technologies Secures Exclusive License to Star Identification Software

StarVision signs exclusive licensing agreement with Texas A&M University for star identification software.

College Station, TX (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) May 26, 2005 -- StarVision Technologies has signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Texas A&M University for star identification software that enables satellites to autonomously determine their orientation with only the stars as their guide. The same software will allow those of us on earth to identify stars in the night sky with the simple click of a high tech pointing device; no star maps or telescopes required.

"This is a huge step for StarVision," explains StarVision Technologies President Michael Jacox. "Even as we worked to secure the license from A&M, StarVision was investing in development of autonomous navigation and star identification products. It feels great knowing that we've secured the exclusive rights to put this software to work and we intend to do so right away."

Already, StarVision has two products developed that employ the algorithms and ingenuity of the three pieces of star identification software. StarVision's advanced Star Tracker concepts will support more responsive deployment of spacecraft, and allow for more autonomous on-board calibration and adjustment to the space environment.

Dr. John Junkins, Distinguished Professor of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University and a member of the National Academy of Engineering, led the development the concepts behind the star identification software.

"This software is the result of collaboration between me and my colleague, Dr. Daniele Mortari. Dr. Mortari's contributions were instrumental. Along with our students, we have developed and tested a suite of software that rapidly identifies stars in the 'lost in space mode,' without any prior navigation information," Junkins explains. "The software operates on images from a star camera and within a fraction of a second identifies star patterns reliably, and automatically re-calibrates the camera if any changes occur due to long term exposure in the harsh space environment. This algorithm represents a significant breakthrough, because sorting through the tens of millions of possibilities makes brute force methods unattractive."

The same suite of software can be used for commercial applications on Earth to accurately identify stars even within our atmosphere. StarTagger, StarVision's handheld star identifier, let's anyone who can point at a star in the night sky identify constellations and find out just what star they're looking at. This invention makes it possible for anyone to immediately become a proficient amateur astronomer; the entire sky feels like a graphical user interface to access astronomy and space science information. The software that makes it all possible was developed by Dr. Junkins and Daniele Mortari, associate professor of engineering at Texas A&M.

StarVision Technologies is a high-tech spin-off from technologies developed at Texas A&M University. Housed in Texas A&M's Research Park, StarVision Technologies is engineering innovative new intelligent vision technologies that are extending the reach of our soldiers and improving commercial inspection. StarVision products support a broad range of applications, including defense unmanned systems, space systems, robotics, and consumer products.

Hawk Protection Systems, Inc. Files Patent for the AJETD (Air Jet Explosives Trace Detector) System with the SPTO

Hawk Protection Systems, Inc. (HWPR), a provider of explosives detection technologies, mobile surveillance systems, and security services is pleased to announce it has filed and received patent pending status for the AJETD system by the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office. The patent application was submitted on February 16, 2005 and is now classified as a pending patent.

Madrid, Spain (PRWEB) April 20, 2005 -- Hawk Protection Systems, Inc.

The AJETD (which is designed to detect explosives, chemicals, or other illicit materials in congested entrances) utilizes gas chromatography, ion mobility spectrometry, and vapor detection principles to achieve its trace detection results. The AJETD system utilizes air jets, which blow trace molecules off of a subject's skin, clothes, luggage, or any other surface, into a detector which analyzes the vapors and then alerts the operator to dangerous readings. While other explosive detection systems work by analyzing single subjects and items of luggage that move through trace detection portals, the AJETD system is capable of mass simultaneous detection.

“Currently, Explosives Detection Systems provide a second line of defense in airports and public buildings. A terrorist could easily sneak into these areas and plant an explosive before entering the security area. Current Systems are also very slow and have to scan each person one by one.” said John Altes, Founder and CEO of Hawk

Protection Systems, Inc.
The AJETD system is completely integrated into the environment, making it unnoticeable to civilians and potential terrorists. Any person or material that comes through the system is analyzed automatically without any warning thus achieving a level of convenience and confidentiality. This makes the AJETD technology dedicated to providing the first line of detection in congested entrances such as Airports, Train/ Subway Stations, Commercial Buildings, Sport Stadiums, Schools, etc. where groups of people gather and enter in mass quantities.

"Submitting the Patent application for the AJETD is an important step in protecting our exclusivity for what we believe is the future of explosives detection technology. Now that we are closer to obtaining that exclusivity in Spain we can immediately continue to pursue patent protection in the rest of the world.” said John Altes, Founder and CEO of Hawk Protection Systems, Inc.

Air Tanker Market Assessment Outlines Targets For Commercial Opportunities

The world-wide tanker situation is in flux. Global air-to-air refueling efforts center largely on the actions and capabilities of the U. S. Air Force, Royal Air Force, and to a lesser extent, the Royal Australian Air Force, largely due to the cost of maintaining tanker fleets.

(PRWEB) March 22, 2005 -- A recent worldwide aerial tanker market assessment performed, by Corcoran Associates, confirms that as the U. S. military redefines its strategic goals, the concepts of expeditionary forces, force projection, and deployable assets will rise to the top of the priority list. These strategic changes will increase the demand for aerial tankers in any future crisis or military response.

The assessment also identified nations where a market clearly exists for alternative, less costly means of providing tanker assets, including leased commercial airframes. Many United States, United Kingdom, and world-wide tanker missions do not involve war zones and combat risk. These are samples of missions that may be better served, from an economic stand point, by commercial assets.

So, the question from industry: "Does this present a commercial opportunity?" states Jerry Corcoran, Managing Partner for Corcoran Associates.

Protonex and Millennium Cell Deliver ‘Industry First’ to U.S. Air Force

Southborough, MA and Eatontown, NJ--March 9, 2005-- Protonex Technology Corporation, a manufacturer of high performance fuel cell power sources for portable and remote applications, and Millennium Cell Inc. (NASDAQ: MCEL), a leading developer of hydrogen energy systems, announced that they have delivered to the U.S. Air Force the industry’s first fully-integrated 30 Watt portable fuel cell power system fueled by chemical hydride cartridges.

Southborough, MA and Eatontown, NJ (PRWEB) March 9, 2005 -- Protonex Technology Corporation, a manufacturer of high performance fuel cell power sources for portable and remote applications, and Millennium Cell Inc. (NASDAQ: MCEL), a leading developer of hydrogen energy systems, announced that they have delivered to the U.S. Air Force the industry’s first fully-integrated 30 Watt portable fuel cell power system fueled by chemical hydride cartridges.

This portable power system, (referred to as P1), is the first deliverable under a previously announced U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, Dual Use Science and Technology (DUST) contract awarded to Protonex. The system integrates Millennium Cell’s hydrogen energy system into Protonex’s PEM fuel cell platform to provide a fuel cell power source for soldiers on extended field missions.

"The delivery of P1 midway through the DUST program represents a significant milestone in the development of soldier power systems,” said Thom Reitz, Research Leader, Fuel Cells for the Air Force Research Lab. “The Air Force is very interested in evaluating this system as a means for significantly reducing the overall power system weight burden carried by the war fighter. We are looking forward to testing P1 and providing feedback to advance the technology to the next readiness level for the final deliverable due later in 2005.”

The P1 unit represents a substantial improvement in energy density and cost over the batteries currently used by the U.S. Military. Today, to fulfill the requirement for 30 Watts of continuous power for a 72-hour mission, soldiers carry 13 primary batteries weighing over 29 pounds. The P1 system is capable of meeting these power requirements at less than 50% of the weight (including fuel cell platform and snap-in fuel cartridges).

“Protonex and Millennium Cell are delighted to deliver a superior power solution to the U.S. Air Force that provides both performance and cost advantages over incumbent battery technology,” said Scott Pearson, CEO, Protonex. “The P1 units clearly demonstrate the value and utility of our fuel cell systems for portable military applications and keep us on the path for potential deployment.”

”This is an important milestone for both companies,” commented Adam Briggs, Senior Vice President, Millennium Cell. “Later in 2005, we expect to deliver a next generation system to the Air Force that will further reduce the weight of the power system with its cartridges to less than 10 pounds. The benefits of this power solution will also be attractive in many other military and commercial markets that need reliable, long lasting sources of energy.”

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Thermal Control

RFT Systems (Aerospace) Limited (RFT) are pleased to announce that they have completed their privately funded study into thermal control systems for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s)

(PRWEB) March 3, 2005 -- RFT Systems (Aerospace) Limited (RFT) are pleased to announce that they have completed their privately funded study into thermal control systems for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s).

The results of the 11 month long study have provided RFT with unrivalled insight into the thermal conditioning requirements, and technologies available, for this type of vehicle.

Utilising industry standard thermal modelling techniques, RFT have created a simulation system that can replicate a UAV, taking into account the vehicle structure, internal payload and external thermal loads.

Tom Benzie, Engineering Director, said “We have created a series of dynamic thermal models that can predict the thermal loading on a UAV throughout all phases of flight, in any of the worlds climatic regions. If we have the system configuration and the flight profile to be flown we can accurately predict temperatures within the UAV at any point on that profile. By knowing the required operating temperatures for the payload we can then implement thermal control philosophies which will provide optimum performance whilst reducing cost and overall system weight”.

RFT Systems (Aerospace) Limited is an Engineering Consultancy specialising in creating engineering solutions for the conditioning of both airframes and avionics.

GCT Announces Availability of New Website

Gravity Control Technologies (GCT) today announced the availability of their new website showcasing "life like" renderings of the company's unmanned prototype.

(PRWEB) February 21, 2005 -- Gravity Control Technologies (GCT) today announced the availability of their new website showcasing "life like" renderings of the company's unmanned prototype. The craft is aimed at testing and introducing revolutionary new propulsion technology based on the control of gravity for flight. When developments bear fruit GCT believes their craft will usher in a new era of everyday space tourism flights on craft capable of carrying a thousand passengers or more on eight hour space excursions.

The images were created by Mr. Charles Machin, an extremely talented and enthusiastic CGI artist from England under the supervision of Mr. Viktor Rozsnyay, Founder and CEO of GCT. "It is a great pleasure to have such talented people as Charles assisting us in our efforts. The images he created bring to life the technology we have envisioned. People can now really see what it is we have been talking about and pursuing for the last fifteen years. Charles is an outstanding computer artist. I am grateful for his contribution." commented Mr. Rozsnyay.

Under development for the last fifteen year, GCT technology is hoping to revolutionize flight. With the availability of gravity control a new era of terrestrial and space transportation could begin. But much work is still ahead before the technology can be flight tested. "We are the first ones to admit that we may be wrong in our assumptions on how this technology can function. I have been working on this for over fifteen years. Have been fortunate enough to raise some initial investment to test the hypothesis. We saw some interesting lab data, compelling us to continue work. If there is even a microscopic chance that it can work someone needs to investigate it. If not us, than who? If not now, when? If works, everyone will benefit and hopefully get a chance of seeing our planet from orbit, to gain a larger perspective on life. If it doesn't work, everything will go on as usual. But we must try it simple because of the sheer implications of the thing." commented Mr. Rozsnyay.

The TO5 housing is well-known for transistors and, when used to house crystals, the TO5 can has the advantage of providing a three-point crystal mounting scheme, ruggedising the crystal for shock and vibration environments.

Calibration tolerances from ±3ppm can be achieved and temperature stabilities of ±5ppm over -20 to +70 deg C are available (±3ppm over -10 to +60 deg C). Common specifications include maximum shunt capacitance (C0) of 4pF, drive level of 100 W maximum, shock of 100g/6ms, vibration of 10g/1.5mm (10 to 500Hz, 3 axis) and ageing of ±2ppm maximum for first year, ±1ppm typical per year thereafter. Various operating temperature ranges are available including 0 to 55 deg C and from -55 to +125 deg C.

Supplied in bulk packs, all crystal parameters can be customer specified without delaying the design. Thus equivalent series resistance (ESR), motional capacitance and inductance and C0:C1 ratio may all be customised to design requirements.

New Scale Technologies and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Announce Joint Development Agreement for Mini Cryo Motors

Space Act Agreement focuses on qualification of New Scale’s SQUIGGLE™ motors at 4 degrees Kelvin for spacecraft and commercial applications. The objectives are to qualify SQUIGGLE ceramic motors for use by NASA in future spacecraft missions, and to validate SQUIGGLE technology for use in commercial cryogenic applications.

Victor, NY (PRWEB) December 4, 2004 -- New Scale Technologies (Victor, NY) and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (Greenbelt, MD) have signed a joint development agreement to evaluate New Scale’s patent-pending SQUIGGLE™ motors at 4 degrees Kelvin.

The objectives are to qualify SQUIGGLE ceramic motors for use by NASA in future spacecraft missions, and to validate SQUIGGLE technology for use in commercial cryogenic applications.

“NASA has extensive cryogenic testing capabilities and experience and needs cold-qualified actuators for future space telescope missions,” said Dr. Peter Shirron, a senior researcher in the Cryogenics and Fluids Group at NASA Goddard. NASA’s cryogenic instruments require millimeters of stroke, nanometer precision and several Newtons of force while generating negligible vibration and heating. Potential NASA applications include adaptive optics in large aperture telescopes and heat switches in cryogenic cooling systems.

New Scale Technologies has already demonstrated a cryogenic Squiggle motor that operates from room temperature to 100 degrees Kelvin. The tiny SQUIGGLE motor is an ultrasonic piezoelectric actuator that uses vibrations in a threaded bushing to directly rotate a mating screw. Nanometer resolution over many millimeters of travel has been demonstrated. See http://www.newscaletech.com for more information on the SQUIGGLE motor operating principle.

NASA and New Scale will work together to test and improve the cryogenic SQUIGGLE motor at temperatures as low as 4 degrees Kelvin. New Scale will provide the SQUIGGLE motors and NASA will complete the testing at their Cryogenic Research and Integration Test Facility. The team will work together to identify and demonstrate motor improvements and publish the test results.

“We are pleased to be working with NASA team lead by Dr. Shirron, and have our ceramic motor tested in the excellent cryogenic laboratory at Goddard Space Flight Center,” said David Henderson, President and Founder of New Scale Technologies. “Our goal is to show how the unique capabilities of our SQUIGGLE motor can improve future NASA spacecraft, and to demonstrate a new positioning solution for commercial cryogenic markets.”

Potential commercial markets for cryogenic SQUIGGLE motors include:
- Cryogenic imaging systems for remote sensing and security surveillance.
- Basic materials research in cryostats.
- Microelectronic inspection and testing using cooled ultra-sensitive photon detectors.

About New Scale Technologies
New Scale Technologies (http://www.newscaletech.com) makes miniature ceramic motors that enable our customers to create smaller products. Our patent-pending motors are bigger than MEMS devices but smaller than conventional motors. We generate precise movement using ultrasonic vibrations which makes our products powerful, simple, inexpensive to produce and compatible with extreme environments. Our SQUIGGLE motor uses piezoelectric actuators to vibrate a nut and directly rotate a mating screw in a tiny assembly with an order of magnitude fewer parts than conventional motors.

About NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
The mission of the Goddard Space Flight Center is to expand knowledge of the Earth and its environment, the solar system, and the universe through observations from space. For more information visit http://www.nasa.gov/centers/Goddard.
