California Instruments Releases New Current-Controlled Current Source

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) December 22, 2005 -- California Instruments Corporation announced the release of a new true current source, the CS Series. The CS Series is a line of current-controlled current sources for precise current applications. The first of its kind on the market, the CS Series is a high-power, programmable, precise current source.

Until now, many engineers have resorted to building their own current sources, as only very low-powered current sources have been commercially available.

Applications include circuit breaker testing, power diode testing, and watt-hour meter calibration.

Circuit Breaker Test
A voltage-controlled current source may trip a current source due to current overshoot. In a true current source, this problem is eliminated.

Power Diode Test
For power diode testing, very accurate current must be used, and current must not exceed the maximum value for the diode. Only a true current source can accurately provide the necessary current.

Watt-Hour Meter Calibration
A watt-hour meter requires both a voltage and a current signal. The phase angle between the current and the voltage must be controlled. This can only be accomplished using a true current source, paired with a voltage source.

CS Series Information
