Studio Electronics Celebrates 20th Anniversary

El Segundo, CA (PRWEB) January 30, 2022 -- Studio Electronics is celebrating 20 years of manufacturing synthesizers, Class A Pro Audio devices, and effects pedals. Formed in 1985 by Tim Caswell and Val St. Regis, the two began rack mounting and MIDI-fying the MiniMoog, which soon became the MIDIMINI, sounding exactly like the Moog but with the addition of several clever features. After the MIDIMINI the company introduced the Obie Rack, Obie 8, and “Harvey” 808- all rack mounted synthesizer units. In 1993 Studio Electronics unveiled the ultimate bass and lead synth, the legendary SE-1, which quickly became an indispensable tool among Film producers, T.V., Electronic Dance musicians, Hip Hop, R&B;, and Pop musicians and engineers.

At the forefront of analog synthesizer design, in 1996 the first interchangeable cartridge-based filter system was introduced with the ATC (Analog Tone Chameleon) rack mount synthesizer. The unit featured 4 modules to choose from: 303, Mini, S.E.M., and 2600, allowing the user to create a wider tonal palette than ever before possible from a single unit. In response to increased demand for more sounds and features, in 1997 the Omega 8 was released, which featured 8 voices, each of which were stereo, multi-timbral, polyphonic, and programmable, again using the cartridge-based filter system.

The SE-1X “the ultimate bass and lead synth” was introduced in 2001, which was a significant improvement upon the earlier SE-1, incorporating knobs that transmit MIDI data, LFOs that sync to MIDI clock, and 4 times the number of memory locations. In 2002 the ATC was improved with the ATC-1 and ATC-1X. 2 new Class A discrete audio products were introduced-the Pre2 and the C2s. Both Pre2 and C2s are 2 channel, single space rack mount units. The Pre2 is a microphone preamp, the C2s is a compressor/limiter.

In 2003 the company surprised the industry with the innovative ModMax effects pedal line which included a Phaser, Ring Modulator, and Filter pedals, all of which are True Bypass. The Wolftone Series of distortion pedals followed. Todd Wolfgram’s innovative designs spawned the Helium, based on a classic Octavia design but adding a Mix control to the upper octave, and the Chaos, a pick-sensitive distortion pedal capable of producing shades of Ring Modulator.

2004 saw many design refinements and improvements. 2005 marks the 20th Anniversary for the company including plans to introduce an exciting new audio product, a new pedal line, and effects devices targeted to DJ market. EEMBC Validates DENbench™ Digital Entertainment Benchmark Suite With Certified Processor Scores From AMD, Analog Devices, Freescale, and IBM

Specific algorithms in the DENbench™ suite test the speed at which processors compress and de-compress audio, video, and still images.

EL DORADO HILLS, CA (PRWEB) January 28, 2022 -- AMD, Analog Devices, Freescale, and IBM today demonstrated their support for EEMBC’s new Digital Entertainment benchmarks by becoming the first four companies to publish certified scores for processors tested against the new DENbench™ suite.

Comprising more than 65 benchmark tests, EEMBC’s DENbench suite gives developers of set-top boxes, PDAs, mobile phones, and in-car entertainment systems a sophisticated new set of tools for evaluating the performance of embedded processors in their systems. Specific algorithms in the suite test the speed at which processors compress and de-compress audio, video, and still images. Other algorithms focus on encryption and decryption algorithms commonly used in eCommerce applications.

The first processors to undergo the challenges of the new benchmarks are the Analog Devices ADSP-BF533, AMD Geode NX1500, Freescale MPC7447A, and IBM 750GX. These processors represent a wide range of performance, power, and price characteristics, and therefore, help to validate the effectiveness of DENbench.

For each processor, EEMBC reports individual results for each of 69 benchmark algorithms and associated datasets as well as a series of consolidated scores that provide a snapshot of performance in specific test groups, such as MPEG decode, MPEG encode (both integer and floating-point), Cryptopgraphy, and still image processing. An overall “DENmark” score provides a single-number performance rating for the entire DENbench suite.

Score details for all four processors tested against the new benchmarks are available for free at www.eembc.org.

“EEMBC’s release of these new benchmarks and the publication of these scores from AMD, ADI, Freescale, and IBM is very timely given the rapid growth of the digital entertainment market,” said Will Strauss, founder and president of Forward Concepts. “These benchmarks provide a comprehensive interpretation of a processor’s system performance running a wide variety of digital entertainment code, and they have been constructed to allow apples-to-apples comparisons among a wide range of processors.”

Like other EEMBC benchmarks, the new DENbench suite works with a proprietary test harness that allows the benchmarks to be adapted easily to any type of microprocessor or microcontroller platform. In addition to simplifying the test of running the benchmarks, the test harness ensures that a standard method is used for measuring performance and controlling the embedded processor target platform.

“Systems designers will interpret the DENbench scores being published today depending on how they prioritize design considerations such as speed, efficiency, power consumption, and price,” said Markus Levy, EEMBC president. “The various consolidated scores that the benchmarks produce become most useful, in fact, when used to calculate how much a processor’s performance ‘costs’ in terms of several different metrics.”

The Radio Experience of Seattle Acquired by Broadcast Electronics

Broadcast Electronics and The Radio Experience finalize a merger of datacasting technologies that will enhance broadcasters' HD Radio and RBDS text services. New products to support "now playing" song title and artist information datacast to text-enabled receivers.

Quincy, IL (PRWEB) January 27, 2022 -- Broadcast Electronics announced today that it has acquired the assets of The Radio Experience, a Seattle radio datacasting company operated by media visionary Allen Hartle.

Hartle is widely credited with the U.S. resurgence of Radio Broadcast Data System (RBDS), an analog FM text-on-radio service also known as Radio Data System (RDS) that has seen widespread adoption by broadcasters in the Europe. He will join Broadcast Electronics as Director of Development, Broadcast Data Services.

“By joining our resources with Allen’s and The Radio Experience, BE is reinforcing our leadership position in the future of radio data as a means for stations to build listenership and enhance revenue,” said John Pedlow, President of Broadcast Electronics, the largest U.S. radio-only manufacturer of studio and transmitter located in Quincy, Illinois.

Major broadcasters such as Infinity, Susquehanna, Entercom and ABC have been using The Radio Experience to enrich listenership since 2002. Euroquartz's XO91 series now features versions that operate with 1.8 and 2.5V supplies, complementing existing 3.3 and 5V models. Available in the frequency range from 600kHz to 125MHz, the XO91 series SMD oscillators are suitable for vapour-phase, infrared or epoxy mount techniques. Tristate function is provided as standard and can be disabled as required.

Four frequency stability ranges are available encompassing ±10ppm (0 to 50deg C), ±15ppm (0 to 70deg C), ±25ppm (-40 to +85deg C) and ±50ppm (-55 to +125deg C). Specifications include duty cycle of 50% ±10% as standard (50% ±5% available), 15pF CMOS output load (less than 50pF available), 10 LSTTL output load, start up time of 5ms maximum (1.8 to 32MHz) or 10ms maximum (32 to 125MHz) and ageing of ±5ppm maximum in first year. Three operating temperature ranges are available covering commercial (-10 to 70deg C), industrial (-40 to +85deg C) and military (-55 to +125deg C) applications.

Fujitsu currently offers MCUs with CAN (3) and LIN (4) interface protocols for various automotive control applications, including body and comfort electronics, climate control, dashboards, navigation, safety and sensor electronics, power-train, and chassis electronics. In-car control systems of the future will require faster and more reliable data transfer as data volume increases and systems continue to become more complicated. By licensing FlexRay IP from Bosch, Fujitsu will be able to quickly introduce new automotive control application products with even higher-speed data transfer and reliability.

The FlexRay™ IP core features data transfer rates up to 10 megabits per second (10Mbps) and employs a bus system that pre-defines necessary time slots within the transmission bus to realise higher reliability. Embedding FlexRay IP into a single-chip MCU will further advance the performance and range of automotive electronic control applications.

Fujitsu plans to offer an FPGA (5) prototype board that will enable customers to incorporate FlexRay into their products with ease. The company also intends this year to offer FlexRay as an ASSP (6) standard IP solution, which will make it possible for customers to utilise FlexRay IP with other CPU cores as part of their systems. In early 2006 the first MCU with embedded FlexRay IP will follow. The embedded solution will be based on the 32-bit Fujitsu FR core (7).

Along with its CAN and LIN interface offerings, the new high-speed FlexRay equipped products will enhance and extend Fujitsu’s line-up of highly reliable MCUs for automotive control applications.

MSN.com Creates Own Search Engine Results

The war of the search engines has dramatically intensified. Search engine result pages from Microsoft’s www.MSN.com are now being provided by the MSN Search (beta) search engine. How will other industry players like Google and Yahoo react? Will Microsoft’s market clout allow it to take over yet another multi-billion dollar market?

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) January 21, 2022 – Prior to this development, MSN.com contracted with Yahoo to provide MSN’s users with search results. For months now, the MSN Search (beta) robot “MSNbot” has been rapidly spidering the web, working swiftly and efficiently to index and prioritize hundreds of millions of webpages. Search engine optimization firms have noted that "MSNbot" is very adept at progressing through the entire content of websites while not missing any subdirectories or obscure links.

If Microsoft has created such a great search property, is it destined to become the dominant search destination? The ultimate fate of the new MSN search engine will undoubtedly be in the hands of the consumers who use it. As additional search products such as desktop search, toolbars, and MSN Messenger continue to arrive, the competition will inevitably heat up.

Google and Yahoo are in for some formidable competition. Microsoft can outspend both of them combined, and still have ample money left over to purchase a small country. Although Microsoft may not be recognized as an innovator, if they decide to enter a market, their new competitors had better be prepared to wage a major battle.

It will be interesting to see how Microsoft will use its dominance in parallel markets to help leverage their new search engine. Some of us may recall the former prominence of Netscape prior to the introduction of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. Microsoft’s ability to include its Internet Explorer on all new Windows desktops slaughtered Netscape, and their ability to successfully compete. Will Google and Yahoo be next?

And what about advertising? As of this changeover, users of MSN.com who enter a search query no longer find advertisements from Yahoo’s search engine. Analysts agree Microsoft must have a plan in place to make money with their new search property, but how this will be accomplished remains to be seen. MSN is now losing millions of dollars in advertising revenue that Yahoo previously paid them. Sure, they can afford to do without this revenue, but the question remains, what advertising model will MSN Search use to become profitable?

Microsoft’s ability to outspend their competitors could certainly be a major factor. If Microsoft offers discounted advertising, or other advertising incentives, Google and Yahoo may find themselves with a much smaller piece of the advertising pie. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) companies use advertising mediums such as Google Adwords to drive business for their clients. If SEO companies do not see a profit potential for their clients when MSN rolls out their new advertising model, it could spell disaster for MSN Search.

Ultimately, the war of the search engines will boil down to a popularity contest. Microsoft has the power, money, and domination of certain parallel markets to capture a large share of the search engine market. Google currently enjoys a wide margin of market leadership. How does MSN plan to turn the tables and win the war of the search engines? The first shots have been fired, who will attack next?

Extension Module & Curved Covers for DIN Rail Enclosures from Camden Electronics

Camden Electronics has introduced a new extended height module and curved cover options for its range of DIN rail mounting enclosures.

(PRWEB) January 19, 2022 -- Camden Electronics has introduced a new extended height module and curved cover options for its range of DIN rail mounting enclosures.

The new extension module adds 15mm to the height of the original enclosure and enables two additional PCBs to be mounted horizontally. It simply snap fits to the top of existing enclosures enabling additional space to accommodate larger components and sub-assemblies where necessary. Like the original enclosures, the new extension module is moulded from Lexan polycarbonate to ensure the finished moulding fully meets UL94V0 flame retardancy ratings.

The new curved covers are designed to provide improved aesthetic appeal for the enclosures and offer an enhanced look that allows customers to deliver their systems in housings that appear to be custom designed rather than a standard box from any supplier. They are available in solid grey, clear, red transparent and smoky grey transparent. The design allows the hinged lid to be locked in the opened position so adjustments can be made to circuits within the enclosure without having to hold the cover.

Like their flat counterparts, the new curved covers can be supplied with or without a small hole that enables units to be sealed with wire, preventing unauthorised tampering with circuitry.

Camden's UK-manufactured snap-fit DIN rail enclosures sport a wide variety of features allowing users to produce housings to meet almost any conceivable requirement.

Unlike competitive products, Camden’s patented DIN rail mounting enclosures are fully UL94V0 flame retardant as they are moulded in polycarbonate instead of Noryl and other lower grade materials. Seven versions are available offering lengths of 17.5, 36, 53, 71, 89, 106 and 160mm all 90mm wide.

Offering greater versatility, Camden’s design features PCB guides to ensure boards are held in place firmly and moulded screw holes in the base to facilitate mounting of PCBs with heavier components such as relays or transformers. Up to three PCBs can be mounted horizontally while there are four mounting positions for vertical boards. The extension module adds two further horizontal positions.

The enclosure base is fully sealed with none of the holes that are found on competing products avoiding the need for any insulating pads and reducing assembly costs for users. The design of the enclosure is such that all tabs on the body have been eliminated to avoid small lugs that might break off.

Standard colour is grey (RAL 7035) although Camden can supply mouldings in black, green, red or blue for volume orders. In addition, the company can incorporate ventilation slots in its tooling for volume customers to avoid the need for machining by the end user. Besides reducing costs for the end user this facility also results in a stronger moulding compared to a similar enclosure with machined ventilation slots.

The new curved covers complement the original range of standard snap-in panel covers available in grey, transparent red or clear. Enclosures can optionally be supplied with a moulded top panel that can be screen printed also enabling transparent red or clear snap-in panels to be mounted with a label underneath for example.

Additional special features include snap-on terminal covers to IP20 finger protection with perforated screwdriver and wire entry holes and tabs as standard and spring loaded DIN rail clips that can be snapped open to allow chassis/surface mounting. Camden can also supply an optional adaptor for G-rail mounting. Terminal covers, snap-in panels and curved covers can also be provided to customer specifications for volume orders. Other optional special features include alternative black higher rated RTI material and EMC shielded metallic coated boxes.
