Diversinet Launches Mobisecure Suite of Mobile Tokens and Two-Factor Authentication Services

MobiSecure offers mobile, Internet and security solution providers cost-effective, mass-market strong authentication solutions to protect individuals, companies and enterprises against identity theft, transaction fraud and smorphing

Toronto, ON (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) April 21, 2005 -- Diversinet Corp. (OTCBB: DVNTF), a leading provider of mobile device security and authentication solutions for the mobile data ecosystem, has launched its MobiSecure suite of mobile tokens and MobiSecure Authentication Service Center designed to protect individuals, companies and enterprises from security threats such as identity theft, online fraud and identity misrepresentation – better known as smorphing.

Diversinet provides a suite of mobile tokens to support mobile, Internet and security provider business needs for cost-effective, mass-market strong authentication solutions. MobiSecure Tokens eliminate the need for consumer and enterprise users to carry additional hard tokens, USB toggles or smart cards with smart card readers for two-factor authentication.

“With more than one billion people around the world already carrying mobile phones, why would they want to carry an additional hard token when they could use their existing phone for two-factor authentication?” says Nagy Moustafa, CEO of Diversinet. “By integrating all authentication tokens within existing mobile phones, everyone in the value-chain saves on costs and enjoys added convenience for all of their identity needs.”

Diversinet has developed a variety of mobile tokens targeted at different user communities with different needs:

- MobiSecure Token: Strong authentication tokens for mass-market online access applications.
- MobiSecure Multi-Token: Activate a variety of online access mobile tokens with the MobiSecure Multi-Token. Add and manage all the mobile tokens needed for all enterprise and consumer strong authentication accounts.
- MobiSecure SMS Token: The MobiSecure SMS Token was developed to provide mass-market authentication tokens through all SMS-based mobile phones operating on all mobile networks as authenticators for online access.
- MobiSecure Browser Plug-In Token: This token is ideal for mobile VPN access and Content Control authentication services. This mobile token activates and supports strong authentication service requests when launching a mobile browser application.
- MobiSecure API Token: Build secure applications to control, restrict and manage access of content and services based on authenticated user profiles with the MobiSecure API Token, the only mobile token for Age Verification and Content Control applications.

All MobiSecure strong authentication tokens are developed with standards-based tools running as an OATH-compliant One-Time-Password (OTP) application on mobile phones with internetworked services provided by the Diversinet MobiSecure Authentication Service Center (MASC). Diversinet mobile tokens are seamlessly managed and supported for credential registration, Over-The-Air (OTA) activation, provisioning and validation services by Diversinet's MASC. With MASC, Diversinet delivers the industry’s first open mobile security service to support OATH-compliant OTP strong authentication on all mobile phones and networks globally. MASC provides all the essential managed services for companies wanting to simplify the development, deployment and delivery of mass-market strong authentication services.

“Diversinet has developed a product for more consumer-based two-factor applications by allowing each and every mobile phone to become a mobile token for mass-market strong authentication solutions,” said Joe Greene, Vice President, IT Security Research for IDC Canada. “In a complex marketplace, products developed with open authentication techniques and mobile industry standards can help promote consumer confidence in conducting online transactions.”

IDC predicts the identity and access management market to grow to more than US$3.5 billion by 2009 from its $2.21 billion market sizing in 2003. Spending on identity and access management technology will be spread across a variety of authentication technologies; including authentication solutions encompassing a variety of tokens such as hard tokens, USB authentication tokens and software licensing authentication tokens. As these fragments are pulled together under one umbrella, IDC predicts authentication will be strengthened by requiring two, three or more factors to assert identity in which multiple passwords and logins associated with different networks and applications are replaced by one-time password authentication solutions.

“Online and mobile networks are the prime targets for transaction fraud, identity theft and smorphing. The exponential growth of malicious attacks is driving the explicit need for companies to protect their customers now or potentially lose them forever,” adds Kashif Hassan, President of Diversinet. “Diversinet’s MobiSecure suite of mobile tokens and MobiSecure Authentication Service Center enables companies to provide all customers with mobile phones with strong authentication tokens for online and mobile application access effectively, efficiently and economically.”

As a leading mobile authentication service provider, Diversinet provides its customers with cost effective, mobile-optimized strong authentication products and services that reduce identity theft and improve brand trust by leveraging more than 1.5 billion consumer and enterprise mobile phones as strong authentication tokens. Diversinet MobiSecure suite of mobile tokens and MASC offerings are available on all intelligent mobile device platforms, including Microsoft, RIM, Symbian, Palm and Java-based phones.

Kodak Tops the List of Digital Camera Brands Preferred by Women

A new Lyra survey examines the photo-printing behavior of U.S.-based digital photographers. Lyra’s Digital Photography Advisory Service is an online competitive research service for marketing and product managers in the digital camera, photo-quality printer, and online photo-service industry.

Newtonville, MA (PRWEB) April 20, 2005 -- According to Lyra Research’s 2004 U.S. Digital Photography Survey, more than 20 percent of women surveyed use a Kodak digital camera, while only 10 percent of men made Kodak their brand of choice. Men appear to prefer Canon digital cameras, with almost 17 percent of male respondents using that brand.

“The explanation is that women in general are less comfortable with technology and therefore are more attracted to trusted brands,” says Charles LeCompte, president of Lyra and director of Lyra’s Digital Photography Advisory Service. “ And the biggest brand in photography is, of course, Kodak.”

The primary goal of the survey was to examine the photo-printing behavior of a representative sample of U.S.-based digital photographers. The survey also asked users about many other issues, including their photo-taking, photo-storage, and photo-sharing habits and their use of camera phones. Further gender differences identified include that women own less equipment in general than men, do less with the equipment they own, and prefer products that are technologically the simplest. Perhaps most interestingly, women prefer printing direct from their camera or direct from a docking station. At least some of these differences can be attributed to the busy lives that many women lead—many juggle child and family care with taking care of their homes, running home businesses, and/or working full-time jobs for others, all of which limits their time to explore and adopt more complex technologies.

This information can be found in Lyra’s Digital Photography Advisory Service, an online competitive research service for marketing and product managers in the digital camera, photo-quality printer, and online photo-service industry. Lyra recently announced that a new team headed by Lyra President Charles LeCompte will manage all content and client support for the service, including industry trend analyses, primary market research, and product forecasts for digital camera, photo-printing, and online photo-service markets. Steve Hoffenberg and Larry Jamieson, senior analysts and experts on digital cameras and photo printers, respectively, advise and contribute to the service’s direction and content. Suzanne Boozer, a research analyst for Lyra, contributes written analysis to the service. More information on the Digital Photography Advisory Service can be found at www.lyra.com.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) April 20, 2005 -- Signametrics introduced its newest 7 ½ digit PXI/cPCI Digital Multimeters, offering advance functionality and fastest measurement speeds. Signametrics’ engineering leveraged newly available technologies to implement new advanced triggering capabilities, superior measurement speeds, and exceptional accuracies, surpassing any existing product in this class.

The SMX2064 boasts high measurement rates up to 20,000 reading/second and low DC current measurement ranges down to 50pA. With true 7-1/2 digit accuracies, new advanced scope-like triggering, and extended DC and resistance measurement ranges. The two new PXI DMMs are aimed at satisfying the needs of advanced test systems in diverse applications such as: Avionics, Automotive, Semiconductors, Storage, Industrial, components and sensor manufacturing, chemical manufacturing, food engineering, and others.

The SMX2064
Like its PCI predecessor, the SMX2064 is a full-featured 7-1/2 digit PXI/cPCI DMM. It boasts 24,000,000 counts dynamic range, translating to resolutions of 10nV, and a wide workload due to its extensive measurement functionality. The SMX2064 offers the most advanced functionality in plug-in DMMs: 6-wire Guarded resistance, inductance and capacitance measurements (LCR), Frequency and timing measurements, thermocouple and RTD measurements, and V & I sourcing. In addition, the SMX2064 sports new scope-like advanced triggering, extended DC current and resistance measurement ranges, and accurate Leakage measurement with programmable DC source.

“The large number of current sources designed into the SMX2064 provide the widest range and highest resolution of any plug-in DMM, making it the only plug-in Ohm-meter measuring from micro-ohms to Giga-ohms.” says Tee Sheffer, president of Signametrics Corporation. “Our SMX2064 and SMX2060 bring about a new standard in accuracy, speed, and functionality to plug-in Test and Measurement systems, that is unparalleled even by costly bench-top and VXI digital multimeters”.

The SMX2060
The SMX2060, 7-1/2 digit DMM, provides the same high accuracy as the SMX2064 at a very lower price. The SMX2060 shares the SM2064’s 24,000,000 count based measurement, and features 1,400 reading per second measurement speed. The SXM2060 functionality includes 4-wire Ohms, frequency, and temperature measurements.

Touch and Feel; software support
The SMX2064 and the SMX2060 have the same “touch and feel” of bench-top digital multimeters. They are compatible with the existing Signametrics line of PXI and PCI DMM families, facilitating painless upgrade. All Signametrics DMMs are accompanied by “front panel” software, DLLs for all Windows applications, and Linux drivers.

A Family of Test and Measurement Plug-in Cards
Preserving the accuracy of the SMX2064 and SMX2060 DMMs in a multiple signal system requires high-quality switching modules. Signametrics’ switching modules for the PXI/cPCI, are natural complements to the new SMX2064 and SMX2060 with their high isolation, and extremely low noise and thermal EMF. The combination of the high-accuracy SMX2064/60 with fully isolated extremely low noise SMX4032 Switching modules make up the foundation for high precision Test and Measurement systems.

Price and Availability
Readily available, the SMX2064 is priced at $2,395, and the SMX2060 is priced at $1,595.

About Signametrics
Signametrics pioneered the plug-in Digital Multimeter category, and keeps on leading in this market with advanced features, and ever increasing accuracy. Signametrics’ current products are dedicated to PCI, PXI, and VXI Test and Measurement systems, and are complemented by “Front-panel” software, DLLs, and Drivers to ensure smooth software installation and integration.

Founded in 1990 by former Fluke engineers, Signametrics is a privately held company with headquarters in Seattle Washington.

Ambient Devices Launches Wireless DataCasting Kit

Ambient and Microsoft lead the trend to display glanceable information.

CHICAGO, IL (PRWEB) March 24, 2005 -- Ambient Devices today announced the launch of the DataCasting Kit, radically simplifying the ability for consumer products companies to embed Internet information in their products. The DataCasting Kit, about the size of a matchbox, may be embedded into virtually any product enabling it to receive wireless signals from the nationwide Ambient Information Network.

Innovative companies, including home appliance manufacturers, furniture makers or even apparel designers will use the wireless Internet DataCasting Kit to launch products that display various types of online information, such as weather forecasts, stock trends, traffic congestion or health information.

“Ambient’s differentiators include coverage and costs,” said Alan A. Reiter, president of Wireless Internet & Mobile Computing consulting. “The Ambient Information Network represents one of the largest, if not the largest, datacasting networks in the United States. The large number of transmitters in Ambient’s mature wireless network typically provides better coverage and in-building penetration than an FM subcarrier network like Microsoft MSN Direct.”

David Rose, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Ambient Devices, says, “The DataCasting Kit is a quantum leap forward for manufacturers to quickly and affordably embed Internet information in a new product, be it a clock radio, MP3 player, refrigerator, car, or clothing. Over the course of 2005 and 2006, dozens of companies will be using the DataCasting Kit to prototype and launch new products.”

Distinguished Engineer Dick Berry, IBM User Engineering, said glanceable technology offers an intriguing way to integrate information into the user's physical environment. “Initial setup and ongoing configuration will have to be extremely simple — as easy as setting the time on a clock. It will be interesting to watch the adoption rate of these devices over the coming months.”

A beta version of the DataCasting Kit was used by a large white goods manufacturer to rapidly prototype an Internet connected kitchen appliance. “Within three days the product was receiving and displaying data from the Ambient Information Network.” says Ben Resner, Co-Founder and VP of Technology at Ambient.

The Ambient DataCasting Kit is now available. Please go to www.ambientdevices.com for more information.

Datacasting: A backgrounder

What is Datacasting?
Today, many consumer electronics manufacturers and major retailers want to deliver products which seamlessly use data from the Internet to offer enhanced functionality and services. The big question is: How will clock radios, watches, refrigerators and mobile devices receive Internet data?

The answer is datacasting. Think of it like a radio signal for many of the devices in your life. The data is already there, your devices just tune in.

Who are the major players in the datacasting space?
There are two companies today that are the most active in providing datacasting products and services: Ambient Devices and Microsoft Corporation through MSN Direct.

Ambient Devices, founded in 2001 as a spin-out from MIT’s renowned Media Lab, has pioneered the market for ‘glanceable’ devices – products which convey important information at-a-glance. Ambient Devices enables the physical environment to become an interface to digital information. Ambient has created a platform for developing these applications, as well as producing their own line of ambient products.

In May 2002, the company launched the best-selling Ambient Orb, named in the NY Times Magazines "Year in Ideas." Today the Ambient Orb, and Ambient Devices’ four other products are available in over 50 retailers including Neiman Marcus, the Museum of Modern Art, Amazon and Brookstone stores. This past holiday season, Radioshack Corp. debuted the Ambient powered Wireless Weather Forecaster, a $99 weather station that displays 5-day weather forecasts directly from Accuweather.com.

All Ambient products are bundled with wireless service for no monthly charge. Additional personalized channels are available for a small monthly fee.

Microsoft’s first product to use Datacasting was the SPOT smart wristwatch, announced in January 2003 and launched with licensing partners Fossil and Suunto in January 2004.. These watches deliver Internet data feeds similar to those offered by Ambient Devices – all on your wrist. The Smart Watch requires a service fee of approximately $10 per month.

Ambient and Microsoft are both pioneering what the research community calls “ubiquitous computing.” Ubiquitous computing is the global trend towards a lifestyle where the machine to machine delivery of important information is seamless and easily available -- requiring no keyboard, mouse, or computer screen. Instead, Internet data will be available to at-a-glance, from dozens of simple, everyday devices.

What infrastructure is used for Datacasting?
Both Ambient and Microsoft see a vast market for embedding Internet information in everyday objects, including wrist-watches, lamps, cars and clothing. Yet the technologies used by each company differ in important ways. The most important difference is the mechanism for sending data around the country.

Ambient leverages satellites and a frequency-aligned network of over 2000 pager transmitters redundantly broadcasting a wealth of data from the Internet. Each device on the Ambient network can receive signal from more than one tower, reducing dead spots and allowing the network to cover over 90% of the US population.

While standard paging technology carries some transmission costs, the company has overcome this issue through a proprietary micro-packetization algorithm (patent pending) which eliminates monthly service fees for broadcast data.

Microsoft uses FM radio subcarriers, which can listen to a single FM radio station antennae at a time. While Ambient’s datacasting network can listen to multiple towers overlapping to improve wireless coverage, the MSN Direct network must rely on existing FM radio station antennas in non-overlapping capacity. FM stations aren’t able to construct additional transmitters for the sole purpose of improving their data broadcasting coverage.

About Ambient Devices
Ambient Devices is radically changing how people receive information in their daily lives. Ambient extends the reach of digital information to a new category of wireless products using light, meters, and motion to communicate at a glance. Using technologies developed at the MIT Media Lab combined with principles of cognitive psychology, everyday products tune into a nationwide wireless network to keep you in touch with the information that matters to you most. Electric Pocket Updates Ringo, Ringtone Manager for Treo Smartphones, and Announces New "Vocal" Caller ID

Electric Pocket's Ringo application, the best selling ringtone manager for palmOne's Treo-brand smartphones, has been updated with new features that allow users to more quickly identify incoming callers and customize their user experience with high-resolution icons that leverage the vibrant screens of Treo 650 smartphones.

Wye Valley, UK (PRWEB via MobilityNewswire) March 22, 2005 -- Electric Pocket’s Ringo application, the best selling ringtone manager for palmOne's Treo-brand smartphones, has been updated with new features that allow users to more quickly identify incoming callers and customize their user experience with high-resolution icons that leverage the vibrant screens of Treo 650 smartphones. Further, the company announces EPSpeak, an add-on to Ringo that identifies incoming callers with a voice that verbally announces the caller’s name.

Since its inception, Ringo has enabled users to associate a picture or assign a ringtone to a caller or group of callers within the smartphone's Address Book. In response to requests from Ringo users, the newest version of Ringo allows users to add pictures for all incoming callers (regardless of whether or not the caller is listed in the Address Book).

Another new feature of Ringo permits its "Friends" function to use multiple phone numbers for each contact. Since most contacts in an Address Book have multiple phone numbers (work, home and mobile), this new feature makes it quicker to assign ringtones and pictures to a caller by not having to repeat the process for each phone number.

For those who want to be the "coolest" Treo user on the block, Electric Pocket’s new vocal caller ID is an essential Ringo add-on. For only US$9.95, Ringo users can identify incoming calls with a voice announcing the name of the caller, coupled with a personalized ringtone and on-screen graphic. Ringo’s voice feature gives Treo users the opportunity to be among the first to have such a vocal ID feature, regardless of the type of mobile phone being used.

"Ringo was the first Treo ringtone manager to associate pictures with callers, the first to enable users to assign favorite MP3 tunes to friends and family, and now the first to verbally identify callers by name," said Iain Barclay, Electric Pocket’s Chief Product Officer. "We enjoy being first out of the block with new smartphone products because that means our customers can be first to 'wow' their friends with features they won’t find anywhere else."

About Ringo
Ringo enables Treo smartphone users to establish customized ringtones or MP3 tunes and assign photographs to specific callers or caller groups. When the Treo user receives a new call, the incoming caller can be identified both by a customized ringtone and a picture or other icon. Ringtones can be installed from an SD card, purchased and downloaded "over the air" via a link to a dedicated online ringtone store, or composed with Ringo’s innovative Ringtone Mixer. Ringo is available from Electric Pocket’s web site at http://electricpocket.com for US$29.95.

Company Morphs Failed Consumer Electronics Product into an Open Source Educational Kit

Things don’t always work out as planned. Once Zan Oliphant, founder of Seattle area garage startup Zanware, realized he couldn’t find investors to mass-produce his company’s in-wall TCP/IP PC controller, he decided to open up the entire product for the education and hobbyist market. “Investors want to make money, but engineers like me want to make cool things – we just didn’t see eye-to-eye on that,” said Oliphant.

Kirkland, WA (PRWEB) March 17, 2005 -- Things don’t always work out as planned.

“When a prominent local businessman asked me what real-world problem our generic TCP controller solved, I didn’t have an answer for him – it’s generic right? It can solve many problems,” added Oliphant.

Sitting on about ten thousand dollars worth of parts, and thousands of engineering hours in hardware, software, and firmware design, Oliphant decided to open the entire project to the public through SourceForge, and Zanware’s company web site.

“Since the initial product never got out of the prototype stage, it works great for an educational kit – that’s because the parts are easily soldered together by hand. We spent many weeks documenting the assembly process – you can check that out our on our web site, there are over 100 pictures, and more than 50 pages of text."

"Plus, we’ve open sourced all 10K lines of our firmware, and 30K lines of our server software – you can even download full schematics, board layouts, bill of materials, and datasheets – talk about geeking out!” explained Oliphant.

These shelf-top controller kits receive user input from an optical encoder with attached knob, an infrared receiver with included remote control, a temperature sensor, and a light sensor. Input is immediately packaged and sent to the PC server for processing. For output, or information for the user, the controller provides a 128 by 64 pixel graphical LCD, status LED, and small beeper.

“Think of these controllers as terminals to your personal computer. Through TCP/IP, the controller talks to server software running on your PC. Our server software, through the use of XML, provides a powerful menu system that lets you control a variety of local media, Internet based media, home automation, and other such tasks,” explained Oliphant.

Through the use of XML and Jscript modules, the Zanware server software allows users to easily add and change features.

Currently shipping with the product is support for Internet Radio, Internet TV, Media Player, Internet Explorer for web browsing, digital pictures, Power Point presentations, HomeSeer home automation, RSS feeds, and animated GIFs.

The server software leverages the power of Microsoft Windows Graphic Device Interface (GDI), and builds each LCD screen first in a small 128 by 64 pixel window. Once the screen is built, it’s shipped out to the network for display on the controller’s LCD. This all happens within milliseconds.

About Zanware
Zanware was founded in September of 2003 to create a line of products that provide a low cost, generic, and simple interface to remotely located computers.

Westec InterActive Selects the Voice Tracker™ Array Microphone for Enhanced Audio in Retail and Restaurant Audio/Video Surveillance and Operations Audit

Westec InterActive, the leader in interactive remote security monitoring for convenience store, retail, restaurant and other business applications, selected Acoustic Magic’s Voice Tracker™ array microphone to be used for enhanced audio for audio/video monitoring. Enhanced audio is especially important for Operational Audits, enabling clear reception of conversations between employees and customers.

Irvine, CA (PRWEB) March 17, 2005 -- Westec InterActive, the leader in interactive remote security monitoring for convenience store, retail, restaurant and other business applications, today announced that it has selected Acoustic Magic’s Voice Tracker™ array microphone to be used for enhanced audio in retail and restaurant audio/video surveillance applications. The decision was made after it was tested in several Circle K, 7-Eleven and McDonalds sites that have Westec interactive security systems.

“Acoustic Magic’s Voice Tracker array microphones proved to be very effective in recording conversations in settings where there is a lot of background noise, such as convenience stores,” said Michael J. Upp, Vice President, Business Development for Westec InterActive. "The Voice Tracker™ reduced the background noise from air conditioners, fans, and other equipment, improving the sound quality of recordings at the stores."

The Voice Tracker’s unique technology locates the region where the conversation is coming from and electronically steers a “listening beam”, like an acoustic searchlight, in that direction. This creates spatial filtering, and “noise” from other parts of the room is not picked up.

“The ‘listening beam’ allows our Operational Audit Specialists to clearly hear conversations between employees and customers. This helps monitor customer service levels and accurately report findings back to our customers,” says Upp.

Acording to Acoustic Magic, its Voice Tracker™ microphones are effective in reducing background noise by utilizing both spatial filtering and digital noise reduction. They also have improved sensitivity by constructively adding the outputs of the 8 individual microphone elements in the array.

“Westec InterActive was the first company to recognize the potential of the Voice Tracker as a surveillance microphone in convenience stores,” said Bob Feingold, CEO of Acoustic Magic. “We’re pleased to have our technology used by Westec, the leader in remote access security.”

Billy Graham Training Center Cove Chapel Utilizes SLS International's Ribbon Technology

Religious Organizations Continue to Embrace Company's Cutting-Edge Sound Systems

Springfield, MO (PRWEB) March 17, 2005 -- SLS International (OTCBB: SITI) announced today that B & R Audio has selected and installed multiple SLS speakers as part of the audio system renovation at the 170-seat Billy Graham Training Center, The Cove's Chapel.

"The chapel is a very simplistic and beautiful room," says Bruce Jensen, audio engineer and owner of B & R Audio. "Part of the design included keeping the speakers completely out of sight. The units had to be something small with good pattern control, high-end and very flat response. We chose the SLS speakers because they have all this and more."

"We continue to win a substantial amount of business from churches and other religious organizations," said Jeff Lowry, SLS International's Direct of Marketing. "The flexibility provided by our speakers, along with the sound quality, makes them ideal for virtually any religious venue. We expect to penetrate further this large market."

The Cove's Chapel construction consists of hardwood floors, sheetrock and glass walls, and a sheetrock ceiling with a very high A-frame, so control was very critical. In addition to the chapel's acoustical challenges, Jensen also had to keep in mind that many of the musicians and presenters would be on the main platform in front of the speakers, which would cause significant feedback.

"The SLS speakers give us good coverage all the way to the back of the room, without bouncing off a significant portion of the back wall," commented Jensen. "We didn't use any acoustical treatments at all and the speakers still give off such a smooth, accurate sound. The detail of the SLS speakers is substantially better than any other traditional speaker."

After the installation was complete, the first group to use the new audio system was a children's choir that performed for a Billy Graham Training Center staff event.

"The SLS speakers performed wonderfully during our first event and continue to sound fantastic throughout each event," said Jarred Brackett, chief audio/lighting technician at the Billy Graham Training Center. "The room has such a tall ceiling, so the reverb time is fairly high, close to three seconds. The SLS speakers are great for this room because of their tight coverage patterns."

Easycamcorders.Com Provides an Easy Guide to Camcorder Reviews

Ratings and advice about camcorders transform clueless shoppers into tech savvy owners.

Boston, MA (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) March 9, 2005 -- EasyCamcorders.com, a new online consumer electronics guide with camcorder reviews, ratings and advice, was launched today to help novices navigate the world of buying and using camcorders.

As the name implies, EasyCamcorders.com makes it as easy as possible for consumers to access the best buying and usage advice for camcorders available on the Internet. Unlike many technology sites, which can seem busy, dry and overwhelming to the first-time user, EasyCamcorders.com is recognizable for its crisp, clean, colorful graphics and concise camcorder reviews illustrated with helpful tables and images.

"EasyCamcorders.com grew out of the feedback we obtained from some of the quarter million consumers who rely on the guidance of CamcorderInfo.com each month," says Robin Liss, Internet entrepreneur and founder of EasyCamcorders.com. "Inspired by user’s comments, we realized the need for a different kind of site and designed one for less experienced shoppers who were looking for quality research presented in a simplified manner."

The information on EasyCamcorders.com reflects the direction that the camcorder industry is taking as manufacturers increasingly add ease-of-use features to their products and seek to attract the 'point and shoot' consumer. The site’s reviews are designed to appeal to this new, wider buying audience and are written in a straightforward, no-holds-barred style by unbiased reviewers who are not afraid to take
a stand in their ratings, unapologetically separating the quality camcorders from the bottom of the barrel. Each EasyCamcorders.com review is backed by the same thorough research and analysis that is performed for a CamcorderInfo.com review.

Ideal for experienced consumers, CamcorderInfo.com, the predecessor of EasyCamcorders.com, is the Web’s largest, most comprehensive publication for camcorder reviews and articles on video production and camcorder use. Yahoo! Internet Life named CamcorderInfo.com one of the "50 Most Incredibly Useful Sites" on the Internet and it recently landed on Forbes’ annual list of the "Best of the Web." The new site represents the next step in its evolution, and is designed to share all the information available at the parent site with consumers who are inexperienced with camcorder technology.

In addition to product ratings and to-the-point reviews intuitively organized by manufacturer, EasyCamcorders.com’s content includes a beginner’s guide to camcorders, easy-to-follow tutorials on specific aspects of usage such as how to shoot in low light or achieve special effects, and articles on the newest developments in the technology. The site also includes buying advice such as a list of "The Top Ten Most Important Things to Know When Buying a Camcorder" and, through a partnership with the comparison shopping website PriceGrabber.com, provides visitors with real-time pricing information on equipment.

"EasyCamcorders.com is poised to become the go-to Web destination for novices—no matter their budget or previous experience with consumer electronics—as they contemplate buying and using camcorders for the very first time," says Liss. "We’re confident that new users will discover a trusted resource in the rigorous analysis and informative articles that define EasyCamcorders.com."

Safe Escape, LLC Offers KidSmart Vocal Smoke Detectors

Using Parents' Own Voices to Awaken Sleeping Children and Provide Escape Instructions
New smoke alert uses the only sound proven to awaken sleeping children during a fire—-their parents’ own voices. Studies prove that traditional smoke alarms often don't awaken sleeping children.

Topeka, KS (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) March 9, 2005 -– According to the National SAFE KIDS Campaign, 40,000 children are seriously burned and injured, and an additional 1,200 perish each year in residential fires. One of the leading causes of these deaths and injuries is the recently discovered fact that children are not always awakened by traditional smoke alarms due to their very deep sleeping patterns. This phenomenon has been demonstrated on national news broadcasts such as NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw and many local news programs around the country.

Safe Escape, LLC, a company specializing in home safety products, announces it now offers a new smoke detector that has been demonstrated to awaken sleeping children ages 1 to 14 at a very high effectiveness rate. The KidSmart Vocal Smoke Detector is the only alarm available that allows parents to record a "Wake-up Command" in their own voices and directed specifically at their own children.

In studies by the Victoria University Sleep Lab and the University of Georgia, the familiar voice of a parent proved 100% effective at awakening sleeping children in seconds. The KidSmart Vocal Smoke Detector leverages this fact by using a recorded message from a parent to awaken the children and provide verbal instructions on how to escape from the burning home. The success of the KidSmart Detector at awakening children stems from its unique ability to capitalize on the brain's ability to recognize one's own name or a familiar noise over background noise or even while asleep.

Even if a child awakens in a residential fire crisis from the sounds of a traditional smoke detector, they are still at great risk. The secondary cause of fire-related death and injury to children is their tendency to panic in high-stress situations or act irrationally by hiding in closets or under their beds. Rather than issuing alarms that can panic a child, KidSmart can deliver a firm but reassuring message to the children, such as "Sally! Wake up! Sally! Wake up! Stay calm, follow the escape plan we practiced and meet me in the back yard." The vocal commands are followed by a series of high-pitched alarms.

"As a parent myself, I am very concerned about the safety of my kids," said Jim Driggers, president of Safe Escape, LLC. "When I learned about how sleeping children do not often respond to traditional smoke detectors, I knew we had to make the KidSmart Vocal Smoke Detector available on our Web site."

The KidSmart Vocal Smoke Detector has been recognized and supported worldwide by child psychologists and fire safety experts. It has won the prestigious "Best of Innovations" Award at the International Consumer Electronics Show and Popular Science’s "Best of What’s New" Award.

Safe Escape, LLC has made the KidSmart Vocal Smoke Detector available through its Web site at www.SafeEscapeCorp.com for $69.95

Lyra Research Projects Worldwide Digital Camera Shipments Will Exceed 100 Million Units in 2008

In 2004 Europe surpassed the United States in camera unit shipments

NEWTONVILLE, MA (PRWEB) February 24, 2005 -- Coinciding with this year’s Photo Marketing Association (PMA) show in Orlando, FL, Lyra Research’s Digital Photography Advisory Service has issued its worldwide digital camera forecast. Digital still camera shipments surpassed 63 million units worldwide in 2004, up more than 35 percent compared with 2003. Worldwide digital still camera shipments will surpass 100 million units in 2008

In 2004, for the first time ever, Europe became the largest market in terms of unit shipments, taking the top spot from the United States, which is now second in terms of shipments. Japan is the third-largest market.

The 3-megapixel category remained the most popular digital camera segment in 2004, but shipments are increasing in the 4-, 5-, and 6-megapixel segments. Most point-and-shoot cameras now shipping are 4- and 5-megapixel models, and Lyra expects that, by 2005, 5+-megapixel cameras will account for more worldwide shipments than any other segment.

“The desire to produce prints from digital cameras is now a key factor in the consumer purchase decision. Many new camera buyers do not go to the store looking just for a digital camera—they are looking for a total photographic solution,” says Robert Palmer, director of Lyra’s Digital Photography Advisory Service. Camera and printer bundles proved very popular last year, and Lyra expects these solutions to gain further momentum in 2005. “Explosive growth in digital camera sales will fuel the market for photographic prints,” says Palmer. “More than 18 billion prints were produced from digital camera images in 2004, two-thirds of which were produced in the home.”

Lyra Research’s Digital Photography Advisory Service (DPS) is an online competitive research tool for marketing and product managers in the digital camera, photo-quality printer, and online photo-service industries. The DPS provides the advice and insight necessary to tap into the possibilities of today’s digital imaging market.

”According to Neal Greenberg, Schmartboard’s VP Sales and Marketing, “Over the 16 months that Schmartboard has been shipping, we have had a continuous dialogue with our customers to determine what needs must be addressed to make prototyping as easy and inexpensive as possible, Based on this input, we have spent money on R&D and have better defined our roadmap.”

Schmartboard will release new products over 2005 that will address the concerns of Schmartboard users from industry, education, and the hobby market. We would like to beta-test many of these products before releasing them. This will allow us to determine to what degree we have addressed some of the stated prototyping issues. Two-Page Spread in the 2005 Edition of Arizona Foothills Custom Homes
Homelogics™ pushes full steam ahead into the Phoenix/Scottsdale market by placing a two-page spread in the affluent 2005 edition of Arizona Foothills Custom Homes. This is the first major step in their marketing campaign to introduce Homelogics™ to the local custom homebuilders, architects and homeowners who are interested in implementing technology in the home to improve quality of life and add a value to their homes.

(PRWEB) February 24, 2005 -- Homelogics™ provides both products and services for the intelligent home. Our services include design, installation, training and ongoing support.

Joe Costello, CEO says, “Our goal is to become the sole source of these products and services for our clients. The overall acceptance of technology in the home here in the Valley is far more advanced than we find on the east coast but the services provided by existing companies are subpar. We see an amazing opportunity here to fill the chasm between Customer and Satisfied Customer. New York clients demand quality workmanship and it is time the residents of Arizona experience that same level of competence from their technology partner. We have been approached by numerous dissatisfied homeowners here looking to have existing installations completed, repaired or simply cleaned up by Homelogics™. We have seen what the local competition considers quality and I can tell you we are here to raise the bar.”

New Nitrogen UltraFill Nozzles Delivers Solution to Overcome Challenges of Lead-Free Soldering

Speedline Technologies has introduced its new UltraFill™ Lead-Free Nozzles – featuring an innovative technology and design to enable electronic manufacturers to overcome a variety of process challenges inherent in lead-free wave soldering.

Franklin, MA (PRWEB) February 23, 2005 -- Speedline Technologies has introduced its new UltraFill™ Lead-Free Nozzles – featuring an innovative technology and design to enable electronic manufacturers to overcome a variety of process challenges inherent in lead-free wave soldering.

“Soldering with lead-free alloys requires manufacturers to answer a host of new and formidable process challenges – ranging from slower wetting times to more viscous flow characteristics to higher temperatures,” said Keith Howell, Wave Solder Product Manager. “Speedline’s new UltraFill nozzles provide the solution – and deliver both improved process performance and product quality.”

Speedline’s new UltraFill nozzles feature an innovative new design and technology. The nozzles are 40% wider than traditional tin/lead nozzles to increase contact length and dwell time. The nozzles are also placed closer together to reduce the temperature drop between the nozzles – so that less heat is needed to reflow solder joints in the second wave. As a result, UltraFill nozzles deliver better hole fill without requiring a slowing of the conveyor, while reducing bridge defects and dross production.

A Nitrogen shroud is available as an option – and allows for either air or nitrogen operation, as determined by the desired recipe, without the need to change nozzles. The shroud both encompasses the nozzles in the pot and contains the dross in the solder pot. The shroud lifts for easy maintenance and dedrossing – without nozzle removal.

Recent applications have shown UltraFill nozzles enhance both product quality and process performance – ranging from the elimination of the need for touch-up of poor hole fills to dramatic reductions in bridges/solder shorts.

The new UltraFill Lead-Free Nozzles are available an option on the Vectra™ and Electra® wave soldering systems or as an upgrade to existing, installed equipment. The nozzles are compatible with the Omega™ wave and the Debridging Airknife.

Speedline Technologies officially introduced its new new UltraFill Lead-Free Nozzles at the APEX 2005 Expo, held February 22-24, 2005, in Anaheim, Calif. The system is available immediately from Speedline distributors and representatives.
