New 700 Series Conveyor Flange Adapter

More Reliable Worm Gear Product for Material Handling Conveyors

January 10, 2006 — Quincy, Mass. — Boston Gear announces the release of an innovative new 700 Series Conveyor Flange Adapter (CFA), which is specifically designed for increased control and lower maintenance costs on material handling conveyors. The CFA700 is a direct-mount worm gear speed reducer that provides better value for a drive train and streamlines equipment design.

“This is an exciting new product that solves material handlers’ problems on the line,” said Ralph Whitley, Director of Engineering. “The CFA700 Series is going to become the workhorse at many material handling facilities because it is easy to install, easy to maintain, and more reliable than traditional chain-drive systems.”

CFA700 is a revolutionary new product that replaces the costly and heavy chain drive that is mounted on many material handling conveyors. This versatile and flexible system costs less to operate, since there are fewer moving parts than traditional chain and sprocket drives. Plus maintenance is virtually eliminated, which provides long-term value.

CFA700 is easy to specify and to install. The adapter is interchangeable with standard two- and four-bolt mounted bearings and it attaches to existing side rails, so costly conveyor redesign is not required.

Benefits of installing CFA include: The rubber mounting pads and bushing limit vibration and noise, improving conditions. The bright-orange OSHA standard end cap cover increases operator safety by limiting their exposure to moving parts in the aisle.

Finally, the CFA700 contains the recently patented PosiVent® Pressure Equalization System, which eliminates the need for conventional pressure vents. It ships factory-filled with synthetic lubricant, and it is lubed for life, so no time-consuming oil changes are required.

Patent is pending on the CFA700 Series. Because the system is so new and innovative, a number of educational items are available. Interested parties can request copies of the following from the Boston Gear sales team as well as by contacting 888-999-9860.

FlexLink launches new online 3D CAD library.

July 11, 2005

As a part of FlexLink’s web based market communication, a new set of tools aimed at simplifying the engineering process for production logistics systems will be launched within the near future. The first release is an upgraded online 3D CAD library compatible with a wide range of file formats used by production system design engineers.

The overall purpose is to facilitate the engineering process, shorten project time and minimize errors in the design, ordering and installation stages. The 3D CAD library is a service to production system design engineers working for end users, system builders, machine suppliers and engineering consultants.

The online service, including native CAD files for the FlexLink conveyor system component range, is now available through www.flexlink.com. Availability is subject to qualification, as the correct use of the files requires knowledge of conveyor applications. The files are available for 45 CAD file formats such as Catia, I-DEAS, Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks or UNIGRAPHICS. Formats such as SAT, STEP, IGES, DXF, DWG, SolidWorks, Inventor and SolidEdge are available on CD for rapid access and work offline.

“This service is an element in building our vision of easier automation for engineers who are familiar with conveyor systems. It will attract new users and support repeat business and the aftermarket, so that end users can upgrade and continuously enhance their production logistics systems”, says Christer Cedervall, Director, Automation Products Division.

FlexLink is a leading global supplier of innovative automation solutions to assembly and manufacturing industries. FlexLink, based in Göteborg, Sweden employs 540 people in 25 companies and is represented in 50 countries. In 2004, group turnover was MSEK 1,137.

Taking care of the dust

May 13, 2005

A new conveyor design for dusty applications.

The main features are for taking care of the dust in the tissue industry, between the log-saws and the primary packaging.

Instead of the dust being collected and hardened inside the equipment it will be easier evacuated. The new conveyor is designed for transporting round items; it enables smooth contact with the naked products, minimizing product damages. Further wear resistance has been achieved with new slide rails, a modified chain link and a new idler end unit. These new components fit into FlexLink’s existing conveyor platforms.

Reduced time for change-over

A simple but unique concept for guiding roll products in an efficient way has been used for several years by FlexLink. The guide rails eliminate the need for changing over the conveyors between different product sizes. This concept maintains the reliability, preventing products to be dislocated.

FlexLink also has a wide range of guide rails system for larger products like packs, bags and bundles, from easy manually adjustable to a system for automatic and centrally changed over systems.
