Last Chance to be the International Diversity Champion

Entry to the prestigious 2005 Sihera International Diversity Award, a key category of the 11th annual British Diversity Awards, will be closing on June 1st. Twelve worthy contenders are selected each year by Diversity Leaders UK for the accolade and significant diversity practitioners from across the UK will select the winner. Will it be YOU?

(PRWEB) May 28, 2005 -- Named after the Awards Founder, the Sihera International Award is exclusively for organisations outside the UK which are making that difference to the life and value of diverse groups in a significant way. Emphasis is on the extent to which any given initiative, or routine service or campaign is making a real difference to the community in the spirit of partnership and togetherness.

Any special project, campaign, concept or successful recruitment and development practice (including supplier diversity), which is encouraging a sense of pride, inclusiveness and value for the Whole community, is particularly welcomed for this special award. One Champion will be chosen from Europe and one from the rest of the world.

The very first winner of this award was Johnson Controls of Michigan, USA. The 2005 winner was a very deserving Romanian Angel Appeal Foundation from Bucharest. The only Awards of their kind in the world, the very successful British Diversity Awards were launched in the House of Commons 11 years ago and have grown rapidly since to become the main annual event in the British business calendar.

Entries have to be received by June 1st: by email or fax. Requirements have been kept to a minimum. All answers must conform to no more than 3 sides of an A4 page at the most, and as part of the body of your email, A PDF or WORD attachment.

Please see website for Entry Form, which can be copied in an email, on http://www.diversityleaders.org.uk/Zones/Zone_details.asp?NewsID=130

The 11th event is on Friday 17th June at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London. It is a Black Tie/Cultural Dress event, full dinner, awards and entertainment and we usually have about 400 guests from all sections of business and government. Patron is Lord Chan of Oxton, a health expert, and chair of judges is Baroness Anne Gibson, a notable trade unionist. There will be many executives, some Government Ministers and many other key practitioners to celebrate diversity at a time when unity and mutual respect are paramount.

Founder of the Awards is Elaine Sihera, a leading writer, publisher and diversity guru in the UK (author of Managing the Diversity Maze). More information available on www.diversityleaders.org.uk/events for the awards and for Elaine herself on http://www.diversityleaders.org.uk/Zones/Zone_details.asp?NewsID=20

For practitioners wishing to attend, Invitations are $180 each for finalists (which must be booked and paid for by June 10th) and $250 for everyone else. However, there are discounts for FULL tables. Organisations may also send a congratulatory message in our Awards Brochure to promote their work and ensure visibility on the night.

Any queries regarding interviews or further information, please contact us via email, fax or phone, as listed below.

Thanks for your participation and we look forward to your entry.

Some Significant Points to Note
1.Diversity Leaders UK is the only visible minority organisation in Europe to LEAD on diversity issues, one which is helping to make the UK a front runner in diversity management and practice. By November 2004, organisations representing more than 12 million employees in the UK (an average of more than 2 million per year) had entered the British Diversity Award since their ceation, the largest impact for any awards in this country.

2. Diversity Leaders UK is a not-for-profit organisation (with a small committed team of 5) which has never received any form of public grants despite its unique and effective work in changing perception, making a difference to workplace practice, and encouraging individual achievement nationwide. Despite its size and small resources, Diversity Leaders UK is the only organisation of its type led by an African Caribbean, and has quietly gone from strength to strength in its promotion of inclusiveness and good practice.

3. The work of Diversity Leaders UK depends upon sponsorship, donations and goodwill. We welcome collaboration and partnership with all communities, particularly the White majority group who can make the biggest difference, and from genuine diversity practitioners throughout the country.
