Silicon Valley Supports Teachers and Other Low Income Families With Free Energy From The Sun
Villa Solera, or “sun house” in Spanish, is the name of a new affordable housing complex in San Jose that is clearly living up to its name. Akeena Solar recently completed a 17 kW solar system to power the common areas of this new housing complex built specifically for teachers and other public employees.
Los Gatos, CA (PRWEB) November 30, 2005 -- Villa Solera, or “sun house” in Spanish, is the name of a new affordable housing complex in San Jose that is clearly living up to its name. Akeena Solar recently completed a 17 kW solar system to power the common areas of this new housing complex. More information about this system can be found at
http://www.akeena.net/commercial_systems/residential_case_study_ca-sanjose.html
Affordability Key to JSM Enterprises
JSM, a development company based in Campbell, CA has focused on developing affordable housing for the past 8 years. They have constructed and now operate over 1,500 affordable housing units in San Jose. Villa Solera, the latest of these projects, is meant to house teachers and public employees. Paybacks on systems such as Villa Solera are typically in the four to seven year range.
“I was delighted with how smoothly the complicated task of installing the solar power system went with Akeena Solar,” said Mark Ruebsamen, JSM project manager for Villa Solera. ”We plan to include solar electric systems for similar projects in the future. This is not only a positive step for the environment and economy, but it’s also a way to make housing more affordable for teachers the Bay Area.”
Electricity Rates Skyrocketing Again
“California is woefully short of new power generating capacity, and our local utility once again will be raising rates in 2006. So people who are already experiencing high utility bills will be clobbered when the new rates goes into effect in January. But there is some very good news.” said Barry Cinnamon, President of Akeena Solar.
“Farsighted businesses such as JSM Enterprises realize that they can help solve these problems for themselves by installing a solar electric system. We are proud to have partnered with JSM to provide even more affordable housing to local teachers and public employees in Silicon Valley," added Cinnamon.
Lower Costs for Teachers and Government Employees
With utility rates scheduled to jump again in January 2006, JSM’s decision to include a solar electric system is particularly beneficial to the occupants of the complex: teachers and government employees. High energy prices are already a tremendous issue for many families. Solar electric customers can look forward to locked in electric rates of $0.11/Kwh for what they generate themselves on their roofs– instead of the $.031/kwh slated for next year’s top tier residential rates.
About Akeena Solar
Akeena Solar has grown to become the largest national residential and commercial solar electric system installer in the U.S. (based on 2004 data from the California Energy Commission). Innovative Gas Systems (IGS) Announces Opening of New Office in Moscow, Russia
Innovative Gas Systems, a technology based company headquartered in Houston, Texas, USA with operating facilities in Europe, Asia, and South America announces the opening of its new company in Moscow, Russia.
Houston, Texas November 28, 2005 -- Innovative Gas Systems, a technology based company headquartered in Houston, Texas, USA with operating facilities in Europe, Asia, and South America announces the opening of its new company in Moscow, Russia.
Innovative Gas Systems’ products are focused on the separation of Nitrogen and Oxygen gases from compressed air streams. The main product that is now being introduced to the Russian market specializes in the production of Nitrogen from Compressed Air.
The base technology utilizes a polymeric hollow fiber the size of a human hair. These proprietary fibers are manufactured in the company’s own California, USA facility and are covered by over 75 US patents. Millions of these fibers are bundled together in metal canisters. These metal canisters are subsequently shipped to the IGS facilities around the world where they are incorporated into different systems for the separation of Compressed Air into a Nitrogen Stream and waste gas stream. It is the Nitrogen Stream that is utilized in a variety of industries.
The applications for the Nitrogen Gas produced by this method number in the thousands. The primary applications that the Generon IGS Company has focused on to date have been the Oil and Gas, Chemical Industry, Food Storage, and Marine Ships.
The major advantage of this technology is that it can be produced at the location where the product is needed and at a much lower cost.
The traditional methods of providing Nitrogen to these applications require transportation of the product in the form of liquid Nitrogen at a temperature of -195oC. In some of the above mentioned applications supply by this method is either not possible due to transport distances or not economical.
The production of Nitrogen utilizing the Hollow Fiber Technology is accomplished by the following steps:
A compressed air source (14 - 24 bar) is fed into a filtration package upstream of the Hollow Fibers. This filtration package is designed to remove water, compressor oil carry over, and any particulates to .01 micron. Once the compressed air has been cleaned it is fed into the Hollow Fibers. Inside the Hollow Fibers the oxygen and wastes gas pass through the side of the fiber and vented to atmosphere and the purified Nitrogen passes out the end. The purity of the Nitrogen can be adjusted between 95-99% by means of a PLC controller.
The company reference list numbers in the thousands, but include the majors such as Exxon Mobil, Chevron Texaco, BP, Stat Oil, Conoco, Kerr McGee, Shell, Saudi Aramco, Petrobras, Pemex, Sinopec, etc and additionally all the major service companies.
The company has decided to open a facility in Russia to better serve their growing customer base in the Oil and Gas market as well as the General Industry. As the company’s products are highly technical, local Engineers will be employed to interface directly with the customer.
The company’s literature and internet site are available in the Russian language on our site at http://www.igs-global.com. For more information or if you should have any questions, please contact:

South Porcupine Group Formed to Direct Attention to "Tight Gas" (Coalbed Methane) Exploration in Region
"The Foothills Initiative" calls for a "Time Out" in "Tight Gas" drilling activity, until long-term sustainable land planning is a reality.
Ft. Macleod, Alberta (PRWEB) November 27, 2005 -- “South Porcupine Group”, in collaboration with the “Livingston Group” and “Pekisko Group”, wish to call public attention to the intense gas exploration in Southwest Alberta. South Porcupine Group meets the second Tuesday each month at Spring Point Hall and membership is open to anyone.
South Porcupine Group (SPG) does not oppose orderly and carefully planned development of gas resources. They recognize the benefits of oil and gas. Together, these groups propose a “time out” on future, regional drilling until proper land-use planning has been carried out.
The Porcupine Hills are more than just beautiful scenery, this area provides:
safe water for tens of thousands.
the West’s last carpet of native grass which supports,
Alberta Beef - best in the world.
Alberta’s best carbon sink (a climate change fighter)
recreational opportunities
the largest population of wildlife in North America within reach of several large urban centers.
The Threat
Several Companies are applying to drill “tight gas” wells in Southwest Alberta. Applications to double the number of wells allowed per section are also pending. Two proposals are for Wyoming-style unconventional gas projects (coalbed methane) that would industrialize this area with access roads, pipelines and noisy compressor stations. For more information on similar projects in Alberta, review the developments already in operation in the Rosebud and Manyberries areas. Also see the July 2005 issue of National Geographic.
The Foothills Initiative
The South Porcupine Group and other interested parties have a better vision: “The Foothills Initiative”, a “time out” for sustainable, long-term land planning. They need your support to bring these issues to the attention of industry and government. Please contact your MLA. SPG will be pleased to forward a copy of their goals to sign and e-mail.
When Alberta children grow up they have the right to enjoy the same safe water, grasslands, wildlife, vistas and recreational opportunities that now exist.
Media are invited to attend any meeting.

GlobalE Industries announced today that they are making arrangements to add additional sources of biodiesel to their supply pipeline
Cavendish, Vermont (PRWEB) November 27, 2005 -- GlobalE Industries announced today that they are making arrangements to add additional sources of biodiesel to their supply pipeline. ‘While World Energy, our current supplier, has a very good product, there are other national suppliers vying for our business, and in the interest of offering our customers a top quality product at competitive prices, we feel it is in our customers and our companies best interest to diversify our supplier base. We will continue to offer only ASTM spec virgin plant oil based product, entitling our customers to the full $1.00 per gallon rebate for each gallon of B100 purchased.’ owner Dan Willey was quoted as saying.
GlobalE services contracts with the state and numerous municipalities, in both Vermont and New Hampshire, and now more and more larger users are expressing interest in adding biofuels to their energy supply chain. GlobalE will meet that demand with the best quality product available, and continue to provide top flight customer service and consultation.
GlobalE owner Dan Willey noted that there is expected top be glut of biodiesel on the market in the next 6 months or so, as new production facilities come on line.

Global Market Insights Helps U.S. Businesses Expand Into Europe
Global Market Insights offers comprehensive marketing & business strategy consulting services for small to medium sized American firms seeking to expand into the European market. GMI has recently expanded to include comprehensive personnel search and management services in concert with partner firm, Beckett Rogers. Clients of Global Market Insights include companies in the precision steel manufacturing, publishing, and personal services industries.
(PRWEB) November 25, 2005 -- Global Market Insights is committed to assisting clients with cross-border and multicultural studies of various markets. It offers broad and in-depth consulting services using detailed local knowledge and market expertise. Focuses include market sizing, segmentation, positioning, price and competitive intelligence. Since 2002, Global Market Insights has provided our clients with in-depth and insightful market information and analysis on a global basis. With principal offices in North America and Europe, GMI´s purpose is to help client companies realize greater economic growth and value through strategic expansion into foreign markets.
An example to illustrate the kind of service GMI provides is a recent business success on the executive search front. Their client, a large international company in the manufacturing industry had an Executive Vice President for international sales that they wanted to replace because of a decline in sales, but they could not pin down what the “VP” was doing wrong. However, they did not want to move him out until GMI could find a replacement. As a solution to the dilemma GMI used a market research project to better understand the company and its problem. This allowed GMI to determine that the “VP” did not understand the European market which was causing the company to lose bids they should have won. The new “VP” needed to be European in order to convince the customers of their understanding of the market. Using detailed analysis of various sales and potential revenue, GMI worked with the company to find the candidate who was hired by the company. The initial increases in revenue through newly signed contracts have already paid back the costs of removing the old “VP” and hiring the new one.
"GMI's knowledge of the global marketplace is excellent, as is their individual attention to their customers' needs. Their extensive contacts throughout Europe and the U.S. have enabled them to identify and develop many new business opportunities. I have also recommended the GMI team to a number of other firms who have become equally pleased with their services. GMI is critical to our business strategy,” states Walter F. Corey, CEO and President, Pickwick Manufacturing Services.
Steve McLaughlin founded Global Market Insights, with offices in Europe and the U.S., with his vision of giving clients two synergistic competencies: knowledge of the global marketplace and industry expertise in manufacturing, finance and information technology. Steve McLaughlin has over twelve years of international experience in three continents, having started in executive search as a Beckett-Rogers Associate. Steve McLaughlin is a graduate of Rice University where he was student body president, and completed post-graduate studies in International Economics at the Universidad Mayor, Santiago, Chile. Peak Oil Awareness Expected to Surge This Holiday Season
As Princeton Geologist’s prediction of Thanksgiving peak oil passes, citizen groups renew call for action; Oil Age Poster Seen as thought-provoking gift alternative.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) November 24, 2005 -- SF Informatics today announced the passing of a major milestone in the debate over peak oil. According to Princeton geologist Kenneth Deffeyes, Thanksgiving 2005 is the day -- give or take a few weeks -- when the world reaches its all-time maximum of oil output, marking the halfway point in the consumption of conventional petroleum supplies. After the Thanksgiving peak it’s all down hill, Deffeye’s says, and the outlook for oil-addicted societies like the United States will be dim if governments and citizens fail to take action.
It may take several years before we know for sure whether Dr. Deffeyes was correct about the exact timing, but the renowned geologist is not alone in his predictions of a near-term oil peak. Respected oil geologist Colin Campbell and Petroleum Review Editor Chris Skrewbowski are among a growing group of experts who see the first half of the oil age ending this decade. And in recent months, the New York Times, National Geographic and Time Magazine have published major articles on the topic of oil and energy scarcity.
With evidence mounting that the world is nearing the oil peak, citizens groups such as SF Informatics, Global Public Media, Post Carbon Institute, the Association for the Study of Peak Oil (ASPO) and others are calling for a broad-based campaign to promote awareness of the looming energy shortfall and to take practical steps to begin the transition to a sustainable, post-petroleum society.
One such effort is the release in October of a comprehensive energy information tool -- a colorful poster called The Oil Age--created by SF Informatics in association with Global Public Media. The poster traces the history of oil production worldwide and displays the latest energy statistics from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, BP Statistical Review and other industry sources. With the cost of oil and gas soaring to record highs this year, the poster offers students, educators, concerned citizens and journalists a comprehensive resource for understanding the global oil situation.
Richard Katz of SF Informatics says the holiday season is an ideal time to introduce the concept of peak oil to friends and family. “People take a look at this poster and it changes how they think about the world,” Katz says, adding that the poster makes for a thought provoking gift and timely gift. “It’s an antidote to the usual array of consumer merchandise,” he said.
Copies of The Oil Age poster can be purchased at www.oilposter.org. Orders received before December 10th should arrive before December 24th (excluding the media mail shipping option). Each sale helps fund the no-cost distribution of the poster to high schools, universities and non-profit institutions worldwide. To date, over 1,100 posters have been donated to teachers worldwide. And thanks to Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, the poster has been distributed to every member of the U.S. Congress.

Kitchen Tips for an Energy-Wise Thanksgiving
As you prepare for the holidays and celebrate with family and friends, remember that extra cooking, activities and people in your home can cause your electric bill to go up.
Kissimmee, Fla. (PRWEB) November 22, 2005 -- As you prepare for the holidays and celebrate with family and friends, remember that extra cooking, activities and people in your home can cause your electric bill to go up.
Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) offers these simple tips to help you keep your energy costs down during the holidays:
• Use your microwave oven as much as possible when cooking holiday meals. It uses up to 75 percent less energy than a conventional oven.
• Use your slow cooker to cook meals. It can cook a whole meal for less than 10 cents worth of electricity.
• When using a conventional oven, don't open the door to peek at what's cooking inside. Instead, turn on the oven light and check the cooking status through the window. Opening the oven door lowers the temperature inside by as much as 25 degrees, which increases cooking time and wastes energy.
• In an electric oven, you can turn the heat off several minutes before your food is fully cooked. As long as the oven door remains closed, enough heat will be stored inside to finish cooking your meal.
• If you use glass or ceramic pans, you can turn your oven temperature down 25 degrees and foods will cook just as quickly.
• When cooking on top of your range, match the size of the pan to the heating element. More heat will get to the pan and less will be lost to the surrounding air. A six-inch pan on an eight-inch burner will waste over 40 percent of the energy.
• Use lids on pots and pans on the stove to prevent heat loss.
• Keep your refrigerator and freezer well stocked. A full refrigerator or freezer saves energy by reducing the recovery time when the door is opened.
KUA wishes its customers a safe and happy holiday season.
Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.

National Poll Reveals that Americans Feel Oil Companies Manufactured Current Energy Crisis
Scooop.net, a next generation media site based on democratic voting principles and active participation of its members, released the results of its weekly hot topic poll regarding the nation’s view on the relationship between oil companies and the recent oil crisis.
Clearwater, FL (PRWEB) November 22, 2005 -- Scooop.net, a next generation media site based on democratic voting principles and active participation of its members, released the results of its weekly hot topic poll regarding the nation’s view on the relationship between oil companies and the recent oil crisis. The level of distrust by the general public about the motivations of oil companies has reached a new low, and Scooop.net conducted its “Hot Topic” study to gauge the level of pubic discontent on the subject.
When asked about whether the oil companies took advantage of recent bad news in the press, such as weather catastrophes, to improperly raise rates, 87.4% of Americans said yes, that they felt that oil companies used the bad news to raise rates.
Deep suspicions by the public, about oil company complicity in keeping energy solutions under wraps and off the market, were revealed when 65.6% of those surveyed said alternative energy sources and discoveries are being held back by big oil which owns the rights to them.
Oil companies were not the only ones who are being targeted for blame by Americans for their recent energy woes. When asked if politicians are brave enough to take on big oil, 85.4% of those surveyed shouted a resounding no!
Scooop.net chose the topic of potential oil company culpability, as concerns rocketing gas prices, when those very prices began dropping precipitously after Exxon’s announcement of record profits were followed by the threat of congressional investigations. Energy companies clearly have a serious PR problem when 81.7% of those surveyed believe that oil companies already possess alternative energy products and are holding onto them until oil reserves are exhausted. Additional results of this survey can be viewed by going to www.scooop.net.
Scooop.net was launched to give the public at large a voice in what news they feel is important, and to provide a platform for Americans to clearly voice their opinions about the important issues of the day. Each week, a new topic will be selected from the news headlines, identified and voted on by Scooop.net members.
Next week’s hot topic will revolve around illegal immigration, and the actions of a volunteer group devoted to fighting the flood of illegal immigrants -- The Minuteman Project. The founder of The Minuteman Project, Jim Gilchrist, has been lauded by many for his actions, yet criticized by the political leadership on both sides of the aisle.
Scooop.net was created and launched by In Touch Media Group, which is an online marketing and PR firm which specializes in generating website visitors, and customers for its business clients using a combination of effective systems, including search engine advertising, publicity, and other marketing services. UtiliPoint International Announces Completion of Natural Gas Study
UtiliPoint International, Inc. (UtiliPoint), the utility and energy industry thought leader, today announced the completion of its “Evaluation and Benchmarking of Natural Gas Application Usage in North American Energy Companies” study. The report is now available for purchase on the UtiliPoint website.
Houston, TX (PRWEB) November 22, 2005 -- UtiliPoint International, Inc. (UtiliPoint), the utility and energy industry thought leader, today announced the completion of its “Evaluation and Benchmarking of Natural Gas Application Usage in North American Energy Companies” study. The report is now available for purchase on the UtiliPoint website.
“This is the first study of application usage, architectures and IT used to support the natural gas value chain from wellhead to burner tip,” said Dr. Gary M. Vasey, vice president of UtiliPoint’s Trading & Risk Management practice. “The results of the study are intriguing and really supplement and add to the IT Benchmarking at North American Power Marketers report completed in 2004 to give a comprehensive picture of IT in gas and electric power marketing firms, utilities and other buyers/sellers of gas and power in North America.”
The study results show that around half of the applications used to support business process from well head to burner tip are provided by commercial vendors. Many of the vendor-provided solutions are older, often customized and, based on client/server architectures and, as a result, require more support. There is pent up demand to replace many of these older solutions to meet current business requirements but IT budgets are constrained.
The study looks in detail at sixteen application areas from production & revenue accounting through to gas storage, IT department budgets and expenditures, staffing and more based on responses from 28 North American energy companies. A summary is available on UtiliPoint’s website at www.utilipoint.com

Fall Car Care Month Promotes Healthy Driving Do Hybrid Cars Promote Healthy Driving Too?
Every October, the Car Care Council plans activities for Fall Car Care Month. The goal is to promote healthy driving which promotes a healthy environment. Do hybrid electric cars, with their lower toxic emissions, offer a solution to healthy driving?
(PRWEB) November 22, 2005 -- Fall Car Care Month, held in October, is a nationwide effort by businesses, civic groups, the government and the media to focus motorists on car health and safety. First started by the Car Care Council (http://www.carcarecouncil.org), this consumer education organization initially dedicated October as National Car Care Month, then added April as well. Now October is designated as Fall Car Care Month with the focus on motorists’ attention to preparing their vehicles for the winter months.
The primary goal of Car Care Month has always been to promote the benefits of cleaner air, energy conservation, safer roads and consumer savings through proper car maintenance. By conducting sporadic road checks, unperformed maintenance can be discovered and once corrected will lead to conservation of energy, improved highway safety and benefiting the environment. More than 400 check lanes are set up around U.S. cities to provide motorists the opportunity to have the safety of their cars checked.
Proper car maintenance prevents pollution! Motor vehicles emit three major pollutants: hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide. Hydrocarbons react with nitrogen oxides in the presence of sunlight and high temperatures to form ground-level ozone, which can cause many health problems, such as eye irritation, coughing and shortness of breath as well as permanent lung damage. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, deadly gas, reducing the flow of oxygen in the bloodstream, and causing health concerns such as impairing mental functions and visual perception. In most cities, motor vehicles contribute as much as 90% of carbon monoxide in the air.
Up until the last few years, regularly maintaining vehicles was the primary way to prevent pollution. Recently, however, hybrid electric cars are offering another solution to reducing toxic emissions. Andy Grant and Taylor Reid, authors of the eBook, All About Hybrid Cars: Maximum Performance/Minimum Impact, explain how this works. “Because of the use of an electric motor paired with the internal combustion engine, hybrid cars use less gas, thereby producing less toxic emissions,” said Grant, a professional writer and award-winning author. “The electric motor takes over for the gas engine when starting up and accelerating.”
At their educational website http://www.AllAboutHybridCars.com, Grant and Reid offer an abundance of information on hybrid cars and alternative fuel vehicles. The site provides up-to-date new vehicle release data as well as a variety of products for anyone interested in hybrid electric cars and environmental concerns. "Fall Car Care Month is a great way to raise the awareness of car owners," said Reid, an Internet marketing consultant. "Not only will it make people aware of the need to take better care of their current vehicles, it will also make them more aware of the need to take better care of the environment. This is one of the primary reasons people are buying hybrid cars."
For those who do not yet own a hybrid electric car and would like to help promote healthier air with their current car, the Car Care Council offers these tips to reduce the impact on the environment: avoid high speeds, drive smoothly, don’t idle for long periods or rev the engine, keep tires properly inflated and drive less by using car pools or planning trips for efficiency.
Anyone who may be considering purchasing a hybrid car can order the free report, "7 Critical Facts Everyone Should Know Before Buying a Hybrid Car" at http://www.AllAboutHybridCars.com/eBook.htm, where the eBook is also available. This one-of-a-kind book offers a thorough explanation of how hybrid electric cars work, their history, the economic and environmental impacts and a description of the current and future models.

Sludgebusting: On-The-Fly Or Overnight
Choices for Cleaning Hot-Oil Systems
(PRWEB via PR Web Direct) November 21, 2005 -- Paratherm Corporation has given their Hot-Oil System Cleaning Liquids line a new name; The Sludgebusters™.
Both the Paratherm SC™ system cleaner and the Paratherm LC™ system cleaner will remove the sludge and carbon that tends to build up in thermal-fluid systems over time. But the two products work in very different ways, are applied with different methods, and work on distinct time lines.
Heat Transfer Fluid (also called thermal fluid or hot oil) systems can foul due to oxidation, overheating, or both. How the maintenance department chooses to clean the system depends on production schedules, labor schedules, and other operational factors. Paratherm has a Sludgebuster to meet each.
With smaller systems that are shut down regularly, or that need to be cleaned quickly and put back on line, Paratherm SC is a liquid that will do a thorough job overnight or over a weekend.
In larger systems that tend to run 24/7, the Paratherm LC is the Sludgebuster that cleans the system while it runs. Replace 10% of an existing fluid charge with the Paratherm LC cleaner liquid, and run it until the next scheduled maintenance stop.
Hot-oil systems control temperatures in manufacturing processes in industries such as plastics, foods, chemicals, packaging, converting, pulp and paper, petrochemicals, textiles, and die casting.
Both the Sludgebusters are available in 5-gallon pails or 55-gallon drums.
About Paratherm Corporation
Paratherm Corporation's product line has grown to seven heat transfer fluids and two high-performance system-cleaner liquids, but the service mission of Paratherm Engineers and Staff has remained the same; to use their thorough knowledge and experience with thermal systems and heat transfer fluids, their relationships with heater and equipment manufacturers, and their focused attention on the needs of customers, to deliver smoothly operating systems and applications, and maximum production, to processors that choose Paratherm.

NGS Presents Perspectives from Chesapeake Energy, and Petrol Oil and Gas on Long Term Positioning and Strategies for Success within the Natural Gas Arena
Meeting the growing demands for natural gas through consolidation, acquisitions, increased capital investments and strong teams.
(PRWEB) November 19, 2005 -- www.NaturalGasStocks.com (NGS), and www.OilandGasStockNews.com (OGSN), global investor websites for the natural gas, energy and oil industries present online interviews with Aubrey McClendon, CEO of Chesapeake Energy Corporation; Paul Branagan, CEO of Petrol Oil & Gas Inc. and Philip McPherson, Director of Research, C.K. Cooper & Company on long term positioning and strategy for success within the natural gas arena. As participants work to meet the growing demands for natural gas; consolidation, acquisitions, increased capital investments and the building of strong teams are strategies helping companies to raise exploration and production levels in the natural gas industry.
As Aubrey McClendon, CEO of Chesapeake Energy explains, “I believe that it is necessary for our country to increase natural gas supplies. Consolidation helps companies to achieve scale, scale gives you greater access to capital, it gives you greater access to technology and gives you greater access to people and those are the three building blocks for production growth.”
Petrol Oil & Gas CEO Paul Branagan discusses the accelerated drilling program that recent funding has enabled the Company to pursue and explains, “For companies to be successful in this arena the rule is to keep drilling, find ways to reduce costs, make sure the field and the operational team is well suited to the area and the kind of environment you are in. The market exists, the demand is high and the end users are expecting continued increases from gas producers and obviously we all must comply with their demands to maintain market confidence.”
According to Philip McPherson, Director of Research, C.K. Cooper & Company, “The politicians realize that we shouldn’t have 30-40% of our oil and gas production coming out of one region, being the Gulf of Mexico, and that we need to have other areas around the country where we can have reliable supplies of oil and natural gas so that when we do have these natural disasters we can have more of a cushion. Hopefully the Energy Bill will allow for more exploration and the unconventional supply of natural gas, such as coal bed methane, will continue to increase.”

Single Language Workplaces Going the Way of Drive-in Movie Theatres, according to Safety.BLR.com Survey
Facilities where only one language is spoken are becoming a thing of the past – a trend which brings with it big new challenges for OSHA safety training.
Old Saybrook, CT (PRWEB) November 17, 2005 -- Safety professionals report that more and more languages are being spoken in their workplaces and that worksites where only one language is spoken are now a distinct minority. The survey from Safety.BLR.com, the website that makes safety training and compliance easier, highlights the difficulty that today’s safety managers have in training their multicultural workforces.
The Business & Legal Reports, Inc. (BLR), survey asked: “How many languages are spoken among your company’s employees?”
Fully 3 of every 4 of the 493 respondents reported that at least two languages were spoken at their facility. Thirty-eight percent of respondents reported 3 to 6 languages, 28 percent reported 2 languages, 6 percent reported 7 to 10, and 4 percent reported more than 10. Only 24 percent reported that theirs was a one-language workforce.
“This poll is yet more evidence of the continued diversification of the American workforce,” commented Steve Quilliam, managing editor of Safety.BLR.com. “That trend is a big challenge for employers, because their obligation to ensure that employees understand safety and health training and follow OSHA safety and health requirements doesn’t change – no matter how many languages are spoken in the facility.”
To help employers address multiple language worksites, Safety.BLR.com now has a Spanish Resources Center at http://safety.blr.com/spanish.cfm. The Center includes, in Spanish, more than 100 training handouts and 69 quizzes on multiple OSHA topics.
Some typical training topics in the Resources Center include Spanish handouts and quizzes on confined spaces, defensive driving, electrical safety, and eye protection.
The challenge: finding safety meetings for Hispanic workers
OSHA itself has acknowledged this challenge, recently announcing a cooperative alliance with officials from Mexico and specialists from Georgia Tech aimed at improving safety among Hispanic workers.
To help employers get their training started, BLR has made available a sample hazard communication training meeting in English and Spanish, similar to those available at Safety.BLR.com. To download this free sample, go to http://www.blr.com/81001600/PRS64.

Australia to Consider Nuclear Power Options as Chinese Interest in Uranium Increases
Australia moves to consider nuclear power development.
SYDNEY (PRWEB) November 17, 2005 -- Australia, with 41% of global uranium reserves, will assess nuclear power development at the Australian National Forum on Nuclear Power Options, being held in Sydney over the 20th and 21st of February, 2006. The consideration comes at a time of rapidly increasing oil prices, uncertainty over international energy security and concerns about global warming. The Forum will be watched closely by industrial leaders such as the United States and Japan, nations hungry for energy resources.
Developing nations will also be paying keen attention. China’s interest in Australian uranium has increased dramatically as it looks to secure its energy future. South Korea is also moving rapidly to a greater reliance on nuclear power as it develops hydrogen based systems. Moves by Australia to develop a civilian nuclear power program would likely be accompanied by a significant expansion of uranium mining and calls for greater supply to world markets.
The Forum has been prompted by concerns over energy, as well as Australia’s need to address critical infrastructure challenges and water resource management. The Forum will consider a range of issues, including the risks and rewards of exploitation of uranium resources for domestic and export use, nuclear power applications and the development of a global waste repository.
Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs (Secretary of State equivalent) Alexander Downer, is presenting the keynote address. He has recently advocated increased uranium mining.
“As the holder of the world's largest uranium reserves, we have a responsibility to supply clean energy to other countries, even if so far we've chosen not to use nuclear energy ourselves,” he said in September. The Minister has previously been flagged by the US as their preferred candidate to head the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The National Forum is being opened by nuclear power advocate Dr Dennis Jensen, a member of federal parliament and leader of a group of MPs calling for informed debate, based on the best science, on nuclear power development in Australia.
The potential for Australia to contribute significantly to global energy needs has also encouraged related proposals. Former Rhodes Scholar and Prime Minister, Bob Hawke, recently proposed development of an international nuclear waste repository in Australia, arguing the concept on moral, environmental and economic grounds. The opposition Labor Party has rejected the proposal, although there are members on the shadow benches supportive of consideration of nuclear power and the idea already has currency in a number of quarters.
The issue of nuclear power development in Australia, while still contentious, has seen a significant change in positions over the last few years. This has occurred at a time when noted environmentalists, such as Greenpeace founder Patrick Moore, have made calls supporting considered use of nuclear power as the only practical way of reducing greenhouse gas emission volumes.
“Nuclear energy is the only non-greenhouse gas-emitting power source that can effectively replace fossil fuels and satisfy global demand,” Dr Moore told the US House of Representatives Subcommittee on Energy and Resources in Washington, DC earlier this year.
“The time for common sense and scientifically sound leadership on the nuclear energy issue is now,” he said.
Other environmental scientists such as Professor Hugh Possingham of the University of Queensland and Dr Robert Hunter, president of Scientists for Global Responsibility, have called for consideration of nuclear power to be undertaken.
Whilst that sentiment is shared by many in Australia there are concerns over economic and environmental outcomes, as well as the issue of security associated with uranium development. Supporters of uranium export have called for nuclear fuel to be leased to other nations and then returned at the end of its life for waste deposit in Australia's geologically stable, remote desert interior.
The National Forum is being chaired by Dr John Saunders. Dr Saunders is highly respected by industry and government internationally and has special expertise in the energy and investment sectors, notably throughout Asia.
National and international CEO’s, policy makers and leaders in industry, finance, environment, science and engineering are taking part in the National Forum. Announcement on legislative intentions is expected and the forum is seen as a turning point in Australia’s approach to energy policy, infrastructure development and investment considerations.

Upholstery to Airlines: Unstable Oil Prices Affecting Many Industries
Many industries, such as upholstery, rely on petrochemicals as raw input materials. Fluctuating oil prices are a reality these days.
Houston, TX (PRWEB) November 14, 2005 --
Airlines sure. But upholstery? Oil prices can affect a larger part of the economy than is usually thought of. The reality is that a large part of manufacturing (such as plastics) rely on petrochemicals to actually make their products. Upholstery is one of these industries. “Many furniture manufacturers are seeing across the board increases in foam costs which are a primary raw material needed in the manufacturing of upholstery fabrics,” said David Nelson of Theupholsteryguide.com.
To some people, it sounds like a repeat of the 1970s. The stock market fluctuations, the lines for gasoline (which, thankfully have abated for now), and the slow influx of alternative energy solutions make it seem like we are in a time warp. However, a lot of industries can’t switch from petrochemicals even if the alternatives’ technology was far more advanced.
Industries that are staples of the economy, such as injection molding, use oil based raw materials as inputs to make common industrial items that are needed around the economy. You can’t make a solar panel into a box of garbage bags.
With oil prices now down from their close to $70 mark, a lot people are wondering in which direction oil prices could go in the near future. Airlines need expensive fuel to run their aircraft, but a lot of people don’t realize that petrochemicals play a huge part in manufacturing too. And these companies need oil to make their products: no matter what the cost.

Homeowners Taking Action to Conserve Energy Costs this Winter
ServiceMagic® reports a 32 percent increase in online consumers’ energy conservation tasks.
Golden, CO (PRWEB) November 16, 2005 -- In the face of higher energy costs many Americans are choosing not to sacrifice comfort but instead are taking matters into their own hands. ServiceMagic, Inc., www.servicemagic.com">www.servicemagic.com, a national Web based business that connects consumers with prescreened and customer-rated residential contractors, reports a 32 percent increase in online consumer service requests related to energy conservation during the fall of 2005 as compared to 2004. Projects ranged from adding insulation to installing new doors and windows to servicing and replacing central heating systems.
“Americans have heard the warnings that energy costs are on the rise and they’re taking action. Some are addressing the issue with small fixes but many are thinking longer-term,” said Rodney Rice, co-CEO of ServiceMagic. “We continue to see consumers using our service to hire prescreened contractors to help them make their homes more energy efficient. From simple improvements like adding weather-stripping around windows and doors to more involved improvements like replacing older windows with double-pane, energy efficient ones, homeowners are doing their part to eliminate wasted energy and money.”
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the average American household spends $1,500 annually on energy bills – a number that may go up as much as 50 percent this year. Almost half of that energy goes to heating and cooling the home. On average, homes heated with natural gas will see the biggest increase in energy costs this winter with a 41 percent increase, according to the Energy Information Administration, followed by oil with a 27 percent increase and households heated by electricity will see a 5 percent increase this winter. However, should colder weather prevail, expenditures could be significantly higher.
Taking action to conserve energy will not only lower monthly energy bills, but may help around tax time as well. Many homeowners may not realize that when tax season comes, they can benefit from their energy conservation efforts. Earlier this year, Congress passed the first comprehensive energy bill that will help American families save energy and money at tax time. Homeowners may be eligible to receive the following credits.
Up to 30 percent of the cost, or up to $2,000, for installing solar-powered hot-water systems used exclusively for purposes other than heating swimming pools and hot tubs.
Up to $500 on the amount spent to upgrade thermostats, to caulk leaks, or to stop energy waste.
Up to $200 credit for installation of new exterior windows.
Up to $300 credit for purchases of a highly efficient central air conditioner, heat pump or water heater.
Up to $150 for installation of a highly efficient furnace or boiler.

Wyoming Legislator Says China Could Cause Uranium Supply Deficit to Worsen
China could force U.S. utilities to scramble for uranium supply.
Sarasota, FL (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) November 16, 2005 -- Two-term Wyoming state legislator, former International Atomic Energy Agency consultant, and recently appointed president of Strathmore Minerals Corp, David Miller, won’t be surprised if soaring uranium prices -- now at an 18-year high -- doubled again. Miller cited growing global electricity demand through 2020, China’s aggressive appetite for nuclear-generated electricity, and the lengthy cycle between a new uranium discovery and the final mining process, as the reasons U.S. utilities may be paying record prices for uranium in the future. Miller told StockInterview.com, “All the new production is already factored into the future market for uranium. We’re underwater right now without building one more nuclear power plant.”
Miller told StockInterview.com what China is planning for their nuclear industry “is probably the most aggressive program in the world…the demand for uranium is going up. I think the growth in demand will be more rapid than we realize.” Under such circumstances, U.S. utilities will be directly competing with China for uranium resources. Miller noted China’s high pollution levels, stemming from the country’s reliance upon coal-based electricity generation, as a primary motivation. “They need nuclear power, probably more than any area on earth, to clean up their air,” said Miller.
Miller plans to help cultivate existing domestic uranium resources to supply U.S. utility companies. He noted his company’s strategy: “We were able to pick up some very good deposits in New Mexico and Wyoming. These are known, drilled-out uranium deposits in the country that’s produced as much as uranium anywhere else on earth. Now, we have opened a permitting office in New Mexico and starting the permitting process to put those into production…”
According to Ux Consulting, which publishes weekly spot U308 price indicators, spot uranium recently sold for $33.50/pound, up by more than 300 percent over the past 30 months. http://www.uxc.com/review/uxc_g_2yr-price.html

Record Trade Deficit With China -- Good News for U.S. Jobs
The deficit with China is running at an annual rate nearing $200 billion through September, trouncing last year's record deficit of $162 billion.
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 16, 2005 -- The deficit with China is running at an annual rate nearing $200 billion through September, trouncing last year's record deficit of $162 billion.
Critics say the deficit is the result of free trade agreements that reduce the cost of products for U.S. consumers but send American jobs overseas, where labor costs are lower.
“Such criticism fails to tell the other side of the story,” says Dr Mark Skousen, an adjunct professor at Columbia University and chairman of http://www.investmentu.com
“Stop worrying about the trade deficit and buy China’s cheap goods. It stimulates job creation, not job loss,” says Dr Skousen.
“What is seen is the loss of manufacturing jobs to overseas jobs…but what is not seen is the creation of millions of new jobs as a result of lower consumer prices for products made by foreigners, such as the Chinese. Lower prices mean consumers have more discretionary income to spend on other things, which stimulates job creation in other areas. In fact, we’ve seen an increase in servicing, mining, construction and trade,” he says.
Consider that:
• According to the McKinsey Quarterly Report, only about 314,000 (11% of the manufacturing jobs lost) were lost as a result of trade, and that falling exports, not rising imports, were responsible.
• “Service sector offshoring destroyed even fewer jobs. These figures are tiny relative to the millions of positions lost and created every year in the United States by normal market forces,” the report adds.
• On a net basis, employment overall is on the rise. New data released by the National Statistics Office show the number of people in full-time employment increased, and the number in part-time employment (as a primary job) increased significantly yet again. Additionally, self-employment continued to rise while employment in government departments continued to fall.
• Unemployment rates are historically low (5%), indicating that despite the high trade deficits, we are enjoying virtually full employment, and better net job creation than Europe.
Bottom line: The record trade deficit with China is good news for U.S. jobs.

Setting the Bar for Offshore Coating Systems
High performance coating solutions for the toughest corrosive environments around the globe. When choosing a coating system for corrosive environments, think “high solids.”
(PRWEB) November 15, 2005 -- Equipment and structures designed for coastal and offshore regions need to be treated in such a way as to ensure they perform safely and effectively for a long time. These regions are highly corrosive; therefore the corrosion resistance of the coating material is just as important as the mechanical stability of the machinery. Harsh conditions such as continuous wet & dry salt spray, severe exposure to ultra violet rays, constant movement of substrate, abrasions from pipe, drilling, casing, and chemical spills can weaken structure and affect individual equipment components.
Solids content and viscosity are major factors in production. Depending on how thin or thick the emulsion is and on the percentage of solids, it will take more or fewer coats to meet specific mill specs. In short, coatings with a higher solids content require fewer coats to obtain the required DFT.
Coastline Industrial Coatings is emphasizing the importance of high solids coatings for these types of environments by introducing a new “High Solids 2 & 3-coat Offshore System” designed especially to withstand these harsh conditions.

Unique Solution to Fire Ant Infestation Problem
ARINIX™ is a nylon plastic material embedded with pesticide that can work as a barrier as daunting to fire ants as a giant river. The pests walk over it and quickly discover they have poison on their legs. They will avoid almost anything protected with the ARINIX™, from telephone switches to traffic signals.
SAN JOSE, CA, (PRWEB) November 15, 2005 -- The smallest of things can cause the worst havoc. Consider the red imported fire ant. It is only a quarter-inch long at its biggest. But this ferocious pest can bite with its powerful mandibles and sting its victims repeatedly with venom. As they spread like a virus, they leave widespread economic damage in their wake. The fire ants cause more than $1.2 billion in damage and control efforts in Texas alone, destroying or damaging crops, parks, school grounds, electrical wires, sprinklers, and anything else in their way. The invasion of the fire ants may sound like a bad science fiction movie, but the threat is very real.
A plastics and industrial products company that has been around for five decades, NIX, has figured out a clever way to repel these invaders and prevent them from damaging sensitive outdoor equipment. The solution, dubbed ARINIX™, saves a lot of money and maintenance headaches. No more do you have to spend money on frequent exterminations, replace damaged equipment, or clean up the damage the ants cause. ARINIX™ keeps fire ants at bay because it has an effective pesticide embedded in plastic.
“We’re just beginning to look at new uses,” said Gene Ozawa, president of NIX of America, the U.S. subsidiary of NIX in San Jose, Calif. “Dealing with fire ants is just one of many uses for ARINIX™. The applications go on and on.”
You can't fire bomb many pests. Eradication is a losing war. And fire ants are especially tough. Pouring pesticides on fire ant mounds fails to kill the queen ants that are buried deep underground. The queen can lay as many as 800 eggs per day, and a single colony may have several hundred queens.
“Eradication of fire ants is not going to happen, especially in the southeastern U.S.,” says Dr. Bastiaan M. Drees, one of the most respected fire ant authorities in the world and a professor of entomology at Texas A&M University. “Some have referred to attempts at eradication as the Vietnam of entomology.”
The ants keep spreading fast. If you've never traveled to the South, be wary of open pastures peppered with small dirt mounds. If you kick a mound by accident, the ants will crawl upon your leg in a swarm and attack with their fiery stings. The hum of electrical equipment is like a love song for these ants. Dr. Drees and Dr. Cook, Associate Research Scientist at the entomology department of Texas A&M University, say that the cold-blooded animals are attracted to the extra warmth that utility housings and other electrical devices give off during winter. The ants seek the shelter of these places during heavy rains. The ants chew on insulation, causing short circuits and switch failures.
Fire ants have infested the entire south from Texas to Florida. Experts predict the threat could spread to the West Coast of the U.S. and further north from the Southern states. If fire ants are anywhere near your location, you should think about ways to ward them off ahead of time. As you can see, this isn’t some vague threat like aliens from outer space. This is a real world problem with measurable costs.
In contrast to many pesticides, ARINIX™ is a long-term solution. Our own accelerated-aging laboratory tests have shown effectiveness for three to five years. Independent university tests have also proven that it works as a protective barrier against pests, including fire ants, other ants and most spiders.
“It’s a huge step forward for prote
