Deep Water Gulf of Mexico Oil and Gas Pioneers Depend on UK Cable Gland Technology from Hawke International
The Gulf of Mexico, one of the most challenging environments in the world for oil and gas exploration, is benefiting from cable gland technology from Hawke International. Major oil and gas companies are leading the exploration of these huge reserves working in partnership with specialist contractors and suppliers in complex multi-national engineering teams.
(PRWEB) January 22, 2006 -- The Gulf of Mexico, one of the most challenging environments in the world for oil and gas exploration, is benefiting from cable gland technology from Hawke International. Major oil and gas companies are leading the exploration of these huge reserves working in partnership with specialist contractors and suppliers in complex multi-national engineering teams.
Hawke International has been involved from the outset on these projects and their cable glands play a vital role in the safe termination of electrical cables in this harsh and potentially explosive environment. The company manufactures safety critical equipment for electrical connections that exceed standards set by international certification bodies. Over 100,000 cable glands have been supplied to four large installations which in some cases are located in water up to 7000 feet deep and up to 190 miles from land.
If evidence were needed of the ferocity of the environment, this came when hurricanes Dennis, Katrina and Rita swept the Gulf in 2005. This caused the destruction of 35 platforms, set 13 rigs adrift and put 20 coastal refineries temporarily out of action.
Products used on the Gulf of Mexico projects include Hawke’s UL listed explosion protected cable glands. These glands use Hawke’s unique rear seal system for ingress protection, which meets IP66/67, NEMA 4X and DTS01 water deluge protection requirements. High visibility deluge seals, that are easy to inspect, are provided on all glands to further safeguard against moisture penetration and to prevent corrosion of cable armour.
A further hard setting compound seal is applied around the cable cores to form an explosion-protected seal at the point of cable entry into the enclosure. This offers the advantage that shortly after compound has hardened, the gland/cable can be easily disassembled for the inspection of the 360-degree ground connection and, if required, removed from the enclosure for maintenance work and upgrade.
Mustang Engineering in Houston (a Wood Group Company) was involved in topside design for all four installations. Additional design work was undertaken at other locations in Texas and Louisiana, where various contractors fabricated topside structures and modules for the production plant. Some heavy fabrications have come from as far as Korea and Norway. Hawke offices in Houston, the UK and Singapore, together with agents throughout the world have worked closely with the many designers and sub contractors involved.
Geologists suggest that the potential of the Gulf of Mexico has barely been tapped. If this is the case, then developments in deeper waters with more extreme conditions will create new challenges. Hawke and their specialist engineers around the world are ready to rise to the challenge.
All Hawke cable glands are designed to protect the integrity of electrical systems from water ingress in extreme conditions. Under normal conditions, continuity of production is critical to ensuring a good return on investment where vast capital expenditures are involved. Interruption from electrical failure of even minor sub-systems is costly. Therefore, the integrity of cable terminations to enclosures, junction boxes, instrumentation, lighting, control panels and other equipment is vital.
Hawke cable glands cover every termination requirement from low voltage instrumentation cables to medium/high voltage large diameter power cables. The cable glands are designed to accept different cable diameters and constructions, providing effective sealing of fire retardant cable and secure clamping of braided, armoured and metal clad cables. International testing and certification standards set the benchmark for such products. With a 50-year pedigree, Hawke pride themselves that their products exceed these standards to provide sustained safety and reliability.
Hawke International is a Hubbell Group Company and part of Hubbell Electrical Products (HEP) division.

Gloucester, GL (PRWEB) January 21, 2006 -- Watkins Hire Ltd: Hire 30 tons hr – 200 psi Oil Fired Steam Boilers
Gas price surge and threat on lack of supply results in hire of steam boiler plant.
Watkins Hire received an enquiry from major European Chemical producer.
British businesses face paying record gas prices for the foreseeable future after November saw the biggest monthly rise since records began. Statistics from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed that the price of gas for businesses rose by 44.9% last month as companies pay the price for the UK’s lack of fuel reserves.
The shortages of natural gas and strict targets on carbon dioxide emissions are threatening those in the chemical or industrial sectors with interruptions to supply or paying sky-high prices for the next two years, the Commons trade and industry committee has warned.
Over the last 18 months or so, many industry voices warning the Government of the potential threat to UK manufacturing from rising gas prices and security of supply. The current energy market is posing a particular threat to energy intensive manufacturers within the chemical and refining industries.
Due to the ongoing gas price hikes and the lack of gas supply, our client carried out a price comparison for operating on (diesel) light oil. With the knowledge of the significant savings that could result, after considering the feasibility of hiring in steam raising boilers, capable of providing an output of 30 tons hr at 200 psi.
After the pricing exercise was carried out, the manufacturer decided to source steam boiler rental equipment and turned to industry leaders Watkins Hire. Mark Whittle (Technical Sales Engineer Manchester) responded to the enquiry immediately with a formal quotation and confirmed availability of the plant. Watkins Hire attended a site meeting the following day. Time was of the essence with the pending Christmas break, the client agreed to proceed with a view to complete Installation works in Early January 2006. All parties involved decided and agreed on location to site the plant. Watkins Hire followed up by providing draft location drawings and boiler data to the M & E contractor for reference purposes, including Health & Safety Method Statements and Risk Assessments, which are imperative on a project of this nature.
The boiler plant and fuel tanks were delivered on the 15th / 16th December 05. Installation work and commissioning are on course and due for completion Week 2 Jan 2006.
Mark Hills, Watkins Hire Managing Director, said: “We believe the savings that will be made are substantial, but the final decision by the customer was not only economical but one of necessity. If the MET office fears for this winter’s weather are realised then many UK manufacturing companies will be face very difficult choices regarding production; measures that can be taken to reduce energy consumption will no doubt be vital. We have over 350 boilers within our boiler rental fleet, we can respond to any request for boiler plant. Every need is individual, so our expertise and experience prove vital to the provision of immediate solutions to the manufacturing industries requirements - from planned shutdowns to emergency situations and long term solutions, with our comprehensive range.”

Will 'Helicopter Ben' Spike Gold Prices Further?
According with http://www.investmentu.com , Ben Bernanke (a.k.a. “Helicopter Ben”) -- who takes over from Greenspan in less than two weeks’ time -- earned his nickname when he suggested dropping money onto household lawns from helicopters.
New York (PRWEB) January 19, 2006 -- According with http://www.investmentu.com , Ben Bernanke (a.k.a. “Helicopter Ben”) -- who takes over from Greenspan in less than two weeks’ time -- earned his nickname when he suggested dropping money onto household lawns from helicopters. In his own words:
“The U.S. government has a technology, called a printing press, which allows it to produce as many dollars as it wishes at essentially no cost.”
Not so.
It may not cost the government much, but cranking up the money machine costs Americans plenty, as it dilutes the dollar.
This, in turn, continues to impact gold prices. In fact, since Bernanke’s nomination as our next Fed Chairman, gold has gained 15.9% and recently hit a 25-year high.
“We believe that now is a good time to buy gold. The fundamentals spell a strong bull market for gold, and Bernanke is certainly doing his part to fan those fires with his weapon of choice -- the printing press,” says Rich Checkan, advisory panelist for Investment U, a free, educational, financial e-letter with more than 275,000 subscribers.
What’s behind Bernanke’s willingness to ramp up the money supply?
His problem is that he’s facing government deficits in excess of $8 trillion. That’s about $27,000 for every man, woman and child living in the United States. And it’s growing… Secretary John Snow has just asked Congress to raise the national debt ceiling, which 14 months ago was set at $8.1 trillion.
So what does a Fed Chairman do to get control of the largest debt in all of history? Simple: devalue the currency and you devalue the debt.
As the Fed starts flooding the market with new dollars, the price of gold will continue its march upward.
How high can we expect gold to be driven by this unending supply of new money?
We could see gold reach more than $3,000 an ounce. If that sounds outrageous, just consider that gold’s all-time high was $850 in 1980. Adjusted for inflation, that’s $2,159 an ounce. Advisory Panelists for Investment U agree: The likelihood of gold surpassing its all-time high is not only likely, but a highly conservative estimate…

Oil, War and Political Intelligence
Geopolitical Intelligence from the ComLinks team ensures energy companies get the latest briefings from Washington, DC and around the world. Speakers and Intelligence Analysts available to advise and brief companies and for conferences.
Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 19th, 2006 -- Energy Companies and investors are turning to the ComLinks team for GeoPolitical Intelligence to warn of breaking political, business and investment risks. As relations between the United States and Oil producing countries become strained and unstable they need to plug into the “Back Channel Whispers” inside the Beltway and ensure better warning of upcoming political intentions and decisions. Thousands of lives, and billions of dollars ride on this often unreported political process, and it’s consequences.
Alan Simpson, President of Communication Links, Inc. has assembled an experienced international team to develop the best in Political Intelligence from decision makers, mediators, and local influencers around the world. “The key to decision making is the people in power, and what they are thinking and planning.” he explains. “We talk to people in or close to the local decision making loop, not wait to harvest published articles from afar. By the time it’s gone through the editorial process that intelligence is opinionated history. Executives should be asking how old, and how sanitized is the information they are using.”
The real valuable, and time sensitive pointers come from personal contacts, interviews and lots of follow up telephone calls. Energy is seen as the most critical area, and least understood sector of political intelligence, especially as hostility to the United States, and widespread political unrest is threatening many of the major oil and gas producing areas. The simplistic view is that the US should not deal with these countries, or listen to these political groups, but to follow that course would starve the United States of Oil and Gas. Oil companies have to work with, or around these political entities, and protect their personnel and investments. Suppliers need to monitor the process and identify opportunities. Above all they need to know the intentions of politicians in Washington as regards sanctions, tariffs, legislation and military intentions.
Besides providing the “Before it’s News” service to energy companies, suppliers, developers and investors the team are hitting the road advising and helping companies develop their own internal competitive and political intelligence operations. They are briefing key executives and providing companies with an insight into the volatile geopolitical world, an insight devoid of political and lobbyists spin. Without the clear insight into the hidden political process in Washington, as well as into the thoughts and intentions of leaders, and political groups in capitals around the world executive decisions are made in a vacuum.
Speakers and experienced Intelligence Analysts are available to speak at conferences, and as guests on radio and television.

Atlanta Heating & Cold Weather Tips
Tips on How to Save Money and Ensure Your Comfort with Your Home's Heating System.
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) January 19, 2005 -- The R.S. Andrews Technicians provide tips on how you can save money and ensure your comfort with your home's heating system this winter:
- Have your furnace tuned up and inspected for safety before the coldest weather arrives. Have a professional change your filter, inspect your blower wheel (and clean, if needed), check burner for rust, and check heat exchanger for cracks to make sure your system is running efficiently. Your heating system makes up most of your family's energy bill.
- Caulk around all your exterior door trim and windows. While you're at the doors, check to see if they need new weather-stripping.
- Check your attic, attached garage walls and basement to be sure you have adequate insulation.
- Use a programmable thermostat while you're not at home or asleep at night. They assure your comfort and save on energy bills. The newest generation can store six or more settings per day.
- Consider a Hybrid Heating System. With prices of heating your home with gas up almost 70% over last year, a Hybrid System allows you to run your heat on electricity until the coldest weather, and then switches over to gas heating. This is the ideal for optimal efficiency and comfort.
- If your heating system is over ten years old, switching to a new, efficient system could pay for itself with the money you'll save on utilities. With 90% Variable speed furnaces, you get maximum gas efficiency, low electricity usage and even delivery of warm air - no more hot and cold spots.
- Change your ceiling fan switches to rotate in reverse (clockwise). This pulls the warmer air down into the living zone.
- Install foam gaskets on all your exterior wall outlets, light switches and receptacles. This prevents air/wind leaks from competing with your furnace. Be sure to turn off the electricity at the breaker box before installing the gaskets.
- Have a whole-house humidifier installed on your home heating system. Humidity levels have a great impact on your comfort. You can dial down your thermostat four degrees and feel just as comfortable.
- Switch to a tankless water heater. Why pay to heat and reheat your old tank water heater...even when you're not at home? Switch to an on-demand water heater and save up to 70% on your gas usage.
- Check any exposed heating ducts for loose joints and leaks. If you find any, call a professional to repair your duct system.

Informed Buyers, Increased Awareness and Preference, Vigorous R&D Program, Industry Leading Support, Life Cycle Aspects Drive Inpro/Seal To Record Results
Inpro/Seal reports record sales. Attibutes it to an installed product/installation base fast approaching two million; direct customer feedback; a vigorous R & D program; an engineering data bank of over 58,000 designs that assures same day delivery at no extra charge; and an “educate and inform” marketing approach that has lead to a dramatic increase in acceptance for for the Inpro/Seal brand.
ROCK ISLAND, IL (PRWEB) January 18, 2006 -– Inpro/Seal Company, the Rock Island, IL, based manufacturer of bearing isolators reports record sales for calendar year 2005. In addition, the company reports that advance orders, shipments and projections are far ahead of last year.
Dynamics
Though a number of factors come into play, the firm attributes much of this extraordinary success to: an installed product/installation base fast approaching two million; direct customer feedback; a vigorous R & D program; an engineering data bank of over 58,000 designs that assures same day delivery at no extra charge; and an “educate and inform” marketing approach that has lead to a dramatic increase in acceptance for for the Inpro/Seal brand.
Product Enhancements From A Very Active R & D Program
Their R & D program, conducted from the worlds largest campus devoted to bearing isolation technology, continues to develop new products and enhancements to existing products that increase plant productivity with measurable bottom line results. To illustrate how active their R & D is, these are a few examples announced during 2005:
- MGS Motor Grounding Seal - a revolutionary new product that stops the damaging effects caused by destructive residual shaft currents on AC motors. Specifically developed for VFD controlled motor applications, the MGS prevents pitting, fluting, fusion craters and eliminates catastrophic motor failure while permanently protecting bearings from contamination.
- Articulating Powder Seal - Inpro/Seal now offers two sealing solutions the Air Mizer™-PS and the Articulating Air Mizer™- PS™ that provide a positive seal in applications were dry particulates, powders and bulk solids are handled, processed, packaged and stored.
- Oil Mist – significant enhancements and improvements were made to their tried and proven oil mist bearing isolator, renaming it the OM 32 Oil Mist Bearing Isolator Series. The OM 32 is the only known method that solves housekeeping issues to contain and keep stray most from entering the environment.
- VBXX-MT™ Series Bearing Isolators – offers machine tool users protection from coolant, chips, humidity and heat, that can cause spindle malfunction and expensive, unscheduled downtime. The highest performance is assured with a reverse interface that avoids direct impingement of coolant and chips.
- Plus –the only product that protects rolling element bearings on paper machines from the wet end to the dry end; IEEE-841 motors that use bearing isolators as part of their specification and the standard for bearing protection; ad hoc designs for gear boxes, axial shaft movement and one of a kind projects and more.
Important To Educate And Inform
According to David C. Orlowski, President and founder of Inpro/Seal Company and considered by many as the “father” of bearing isolation technology, “More and more lip seal users at the plant maintenance level (and above) have learned that there are misconceptions when it comes to sealing devices and that contact seals are not the only option when it comes to protecting bearings.”
Orlowski continued, “Over the last couple of years, we have conducted extensive research into the use of bearing protection on a market-by-market, application by application basis and found that people wanted to know more about bearing isolators. As a direct result, in 2005 we published a brochure entitled Introduction To Bearing Isolators……A Short Lesson In Bearing Isolation which has become the most successful literature we have ever developed.”
Maintenance People Are Fast Becoming Converts To Bearing Isolators
Orlowski went on to say that, “When lip seals were first introduced more than 70 years ago, they were the only kind of sealing device available. Convenient and inexpensive, they went on to capture a 99% market share. Today, lip seal manufacturers state that at best, they have a median, average life cycle of 1,844 hours or 77 days of operation, though some may survive up to 3,000 hours. This means that, in the real world, lip seals are not meant for heavy duty, industrial applications where rotating equipment is designed to run, uninterrupted for five years. Once end users find out that bearing isolators provide levels of protection unavailable in any kind of bearing protection device with bottom line implications, they get fed up with the 70-year-old technology they had been using and quickly become an Inpro/Seal convert. Another in-demand brochure, Are Lip Seals Obsolete?, provides more in-depth information.
Energy Aspects
Orlowski concluded, “When engaged with a rotating shaft, each contact seal, (lip seal and face seal) consumes, on average, 147 watts of power while operating. To show how significant this is, a plant with 600 operating pumps, can run up annual costs in excess of $117,000 for energy to drive the lip seals. Add to that the costs associated with downtime and you can again see why more and more end users are switching to Inpro/Seal bearing isolators.”
More On Motors
Since the Federal mandate for the use of premium efficiency motors (EPAct) was put into effect, more and more end users have opted for a significantly more reliable IEEE-841 Motor, developed by the Institute of Electrical Engineers. The IEEE-841 standard was written to establish additional guidelines to improve motor reliability, efficiency and performance. A very important feature of these motors is bearing protection. Realizing that the most economical motor is one that runs reliably and the avoidance of a single motor failure more than pays for the entire motor, the IEEE-841 Motor has become an industry standard.
VBXX-D, The Next Generation
When Inpro/Seal introduced their original VBX™ series fifteen years ago, it provided end users with a way to eliminate the root cause of premature equipment failure – contamination entering the bearing environment – while increasing productivity and reliability in the process. Since then, hundreds of thousands have been installed in plants around the world. Today, the VBXX-D the next generation in bearing isolators has taken hold offering the latest and best non-contacting labyrinth sealing technology to improve plant uptime and reliability with an ROI that more than doubles previous results with levels of bearing protection previously unavailable.
Industry Leading Internet Support
Inpro/Seal has also invested heavily into web sites dedicated to the education of bearing isolation technology with much downloadable information. When an end user visits www.inpro-seal.com or www.bearingisolators.com they will find a wealth of information related to both Inpro/Seal and bearing protection, including: specific applications, case histories, data sheets, facts and questions, specifications and more. Interactive spreadsheets include a Cost Justification Worksheet and Contact Seal Energy Consumption Calculator. Simply to complete, an end user merely fills in the blank to calculate ROI and benchmark repair costs.

As USERRA Deadline Hits, HR.BLR.com Poll Finds Majority of Employers Not Ready for New Military Employment Rights
The first comprehensive regulations ever issued describing the employment and reemployment rights of military service members under federal law become effective for all employers today. A HR.BLR.com poll finds that almost half of employers are unprepared.
Old Saybrook, CT. (PRWEB) January 18, 2006 -- Only one-third of employers are fully prepared for important new regulations that become effective this week governing the employment and reemployment rights of military service members, according to a poll at HR.BLR.com.
Final regulations under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994, as amended (USERRA) were issued by the Department of Labor (DOL) in December of 2005. These are the first comprehensive regulations ever issued describing the employment and reemployment rights of military service members under federal law. The final regulations become effective for all employers on January 18, 2006.
Asked “How prepared are you for the new USERRA regs that become effective January 18?” just 33 percent of HR.BLR.com visitors responded that they were “Completely prepared” for the regulations. Another 24 percent responded that they were “Somewhat prepared.”
Meanwhile, over a quarter (26 percent) of respondents said that they didn’t know whether they were prepared and 17 percent said they were “Not at all prepared” for the regulations.
The early January poll on the Business & Legal Reports (BLR) website drew responses from 324 human resource professionals.
Almost half are unsure – or unprepared – for important new military reemployment rights changes.
“Nearly half of respondents confessed to either not knowing whether they were prepared or being flat out unprepared,” said Chris Ceplenski, HR.BLR.com editor. “With the deadline now here, these results indicate many employers have their work cut out for them to ensure their policies and practices regarding employees serving in the military are in compliance.”
USERRA Resource Center
To help employers understand USERRA’s legal requirements, BLR offers a USERRA Resources Center. The Center includes the text of the regulations, a downloadable “USERRA Rights Notification” poster (issued in conjunction with the new regs) as well as news articles, white papers, and sample policies. OurEnergy.us Launches the Million Clean Homes Campaign
Through American consumer participation, OurEnergy.us targets powering 1 million homes with clean domestic renewable energy at no cost.
Grand Rapids, MI (PRWEB) January 18, 2006 -- OurEnergy.us, a Grand Rapids, MI-based renewable energy group, launches the Million Clean Homes Campaign. The campaign, which empowers U.S. consumers to drive the generation of clean American renewable energy at no cost to them, becomes the centerpiece of OurEnergy for 2006 and beyond.
OurEnergy seeks to advance the long-term development of clean energy in the US by lowering the barriers for participation between consumers and energy suppliers. With this new campaign, OurEnergy sets their sights on a clearly defined, and attainable, target. For every 2,500 OurEnergy members, the generation of 1 MW of clean renewable energy is required. 1 MW equals the energy needs of approx. 250 American homes.
Participating online retailers, including Staples, Expedia.com, Barnes & Noble, Office Max and hundreds of others, contribute a small percentage, an average of 2%, of each purchase to a renewable energy supplier designated by the OurEnergy member. By participating in the program, energy consumers stand to generate millions of kilowatt-hours a year in renewable energy, helping to offset the higher unit costs faced by the renewables industry, and lessening the demand for foreign and fossil fuels.
“The OurEnergy program enables uncomplicated domestic renewable energy generation,” says OurEnergy founder John Zyskowski. “With the launch of the Million Clean Homes Campaign, we are establishing precedence for energy consumer choice never seen before.”

EV WORLD Enables Listeners to Eavesdrop on Important Peak Oil Debate
First U.S. Peak Oil Conference now available for free MP3 and iTunes download from EVWorld.Com.
Papillion, NE (PRWEB) January 16, 2006 -- Gasoline prices in the last 12 months have sharply focused consumer -- as well as Detroit's -- attention not only on more fuel efficient cars and trucks, but on the larger question of what is oil's future? While ExxonMobil's new CEO, Rex Tillerson, confidently asserts that there is plenty of oil -- both conventional and unconventional -- left to be discovered, other energy analysts and even oil company executives are less sanguine about the future prospects of petroleum.
A number of those energy experts expressed their concerns at the first annual Association for the Study of Peak Oil (ASPO) - USA world oil conference in Denver, Colorado. Pooling decades of oil, gas, shale and tar sands experience, their consensus is that despite government and energy industry assurances, the demand for oil, in particular, is likely to outstrip world production capacity, perhaps as early as within the next five years, as global oil reserves peak and begin their inevitable decline.
ASPO USA granted EV World (http://www.evworld.com) -- a respected Internet publication devoted to sustainable transportation and energy technologies -- permission to record the conference for its subscribers and general readers. Many of those speeches are now available to the general public for free download in MP3 audio format on EV World.
The speakers at the conference included:
Matthew Simmons, author of "Twilight in the Desert"
Thomas Petrie, co-founder Petrie Parkman & Co.
Christopher Skrebowski, Editor, Petroleum Review
Jeremy Gilbert, BP chief petroleum engineer (retired)
Henry Groppe, Founder, Groppe, Long & Little
Michael Ashar, Executive VP, Suncor USA (Tar Sands)
Roger Bezdek, Co-Author of "Hirsch Report"
Charles T. Maxwell, Weedon & Company
Steve Mut, CEO, Shell(Shale Oil unit)
Charles Hall, Distinguished Prof. of Environmental Science, SUNY
Also speaking were Maryland Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, Denver mayor John Hickenlooper and Colorado Congressman Mark Udall. The event was organized by Steven Andrews and Randy Udall.
In addition to EVWorld.Com, the speeches are available through Apple's iTunes service by simply pasting the following URL into iTunes window under the Advanced menu item: http://www.evworld.com/rss/futureinmotion.xml.
While EV World's primary editorial focus is on electric-drive vehicles, it also covers topics related to energy and the environment, including global warming and peak oil.
Subscribers to the site's annual $29 Premium subscription service not only have access all of the publication's numerous features, but also participate in periodic drawings for top-of-the-line electric bicycles and motor scooters, the latest being for a brand new E-Max 1500 electric scooter, courtesy of E-Max USA.

Oil Partnerships: How to Protect Investments
As burgeoning economies push the demand for oil to historic highs, some analysts say the world's oil production is in the process of peaking. Believing that an oil crisis -and, thus, higher prices - is inevitable, some investors are seeing dollar signs in their future.
(PRWEB) January 15, 2006 -- As burgeoning economies push the demand for oil to historic highs, some analysts say the world's oil production is in the process of peaking. Believing that an oil crisis -and, thus, higher prices - is inevitable, some investors are seeing dollar signs in their future.
According to the International Energy Agency, 2004 world oil demand increased by a higher rate than any year since 1988. And if current trends continue, worldwide oil demand will exceed 120 million barrels per day, according to the Energy Information Administration.
As oil fields yield less oil to satisfy this demand, prices are predicted to keep climbing. Forward-looking investors who see an opportunity to profit from these high prices are entering drilling partnerships with oil and gas exploration companies in geographical areas known to have established oil fields. Such drills may result in commercially marketable oil being found, bringing an investor anything from modest monthly checks to great wealth.
Although it's a risky investment, a good drilling partnership program may only have to hit one successful well to create a substantial profit. In addition, drilling partnerships can offer outstanding tax advantages.
However, investors should be cautious and research the company thoroughly before investing, said Dr. Roger L. Cory, President of Mammoth Resource Partners, a company that explores for oil and gas in oil-rich areas of Kentucky.
Cory says the company sets itself apart from others in the industry in the way it does business - more communication with and accountability to its investors. Through its "Partner Communication System," for example, investors are kept up-to-date on drilling activities via an online drill log. They also are able to see the status, GPS coordinates and permit numbers for each drilling project as it progresses.
Investors also should consider the net revenue interest - the percentage of the profits that investors receive from the sale of the oil produced, Cory said. Mammoth offers competitive net revenue interest.
Another thing for a potential investor to address is whether the company takes steps to increase the likelihood of striking oil. Mammoth packages multiple wells into one project and uses computer technology to minimize the risk of "dry holes."
And unlike others, Cory says, Mammoth includes already-producing wells in its packages to provide income and offset risk while exploring for new strikes.

Oil Rocks
Petroleum crude oil comes from rocks.
(PRWEB) January 12, 2006 -- Given all of the news on rising oil prices these days, one cannot help but think that oil comes from oil companies. However, the simple fact is that oil comes from rocks.
As a matter of fact, rocks are a very important source of energy from the coal rocks that powered the steam engines in the 19th century Industrial Revolution to the crude oil found in rocks that powers the internal combustion engines of the 20th and 21st centuries. About petroleum, one can hate it or love it, but one can hardly ignore it or escape from it because of the many very important uses for it ranging from fuels to chemicals to medicines to plastics which make up our modern world. Thus, it's something that's worthy of our attention.
Given all of the above, a company called "ONTA" which is a geology and not an oil company has come up with a practical and simple way of presenting petroleum crude oil in a more natural and friendly way to everyone who uses it so that it no longer remains one of life's mysteries. Thus, one can now learn all about petroleum crude oil in a fast, fun, affordable, clean and safe way with their new and timely educational "Oil Rock Set". This basic set of two rocks comes with an oil source rock from which petroleum crude oil was formed and an oil reservoir rock in which petroleum crude oil is found. Also included with it is an information sheet. For more information, visit their website www.oilrockset.com by clicking on it.

GlobalView Closes Out Record Year; Reveals 2006 Outlook
GlobalView Software Inc., the energy industry’s leading provider of real-time and historic data management solutions, closed out a record-breaking year in 2005 and unveiled progressive plans for 2006.
Chicago (PRWEB) January 12, 2006 -- GlobalView Software Inc., the energy industry’s leading provider of real-time and historic data management solutions, closed out a record-breaking year in 2005 and unveiled progressive plans for 2006.
“We’re charting new territory for GlobalView. We had sales performances of a caliber this company had never seen before. For example, in December we signed three large data integration customers and developed new customer relationships with several other companies. Our sales results throughout the year were influenced by four key trends. First, we continue to provide the most comprehensive suite of data integration services. Second, the industry’s financial services area is growing. Third, more and more companies are realizing the benefits of application rationalization. And fourth, we are gaining rapid acceptance with our web-based solutions,” commented Stephen Gott, Chief Executive Officer. “This momentum is continuing as we cross over into 2006, and I would like to recognize the hard work and dedication of our entire staff.”
In 2005, the company achieved significant growth in key internal areas. The development team nearly doubled its size under the direction of Bruce Weis, Vice President Data Services and Development. The team is responsible for all development work for the MarketView suite of products, as well as ConfirmHub, and its members possess extensive experience in the energy, trading and finance industries. Weis’ team will be launching a new web services application in the first quarter.
GlobalView also experienced internal growth in its sales and marketing departments, which helped fuel the record sales performances. At the close of 2005, the sales department had increased its staff size by three fold. According to Don Labs, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing, the sales team will continue to grow in 2006.
“An integral factor to the successful growth and performance of our sales team was the adoption of the GlobalView Advantage initiative in mid-2005. The GlobalView Advantage represents the new cultural approach and partnership building that we strive to achieve with our customers. It’s supported by our focus on providing custom solutions that drive profitable business outcomes for our customers. This is a new industry concept, and our 2005 results indicate it’s a successful model,” said Labs.
According to Labs, the company made numerous investments in 2005 to support the company’s sales growth. This included investment in the reenergizing of the marketing department. In 2005, the new department kicked off a series of integrated sales and marketing activities, including global webinars, customer events, electronic direct marketing and website enhancements. The sales and marketing departments will continue to work closely to carry on the momentum and execute a number of integrated activities in 2006.

Cut Energy Use Up to 40 Percent with Speedheat Electric Radiant Floor Heating Systems
Tips for saving energy and still staying warm this winter. Includes latest Energy Information Administration's Short-Term Energy Outlook projections for home heating price increases (released January 10, 2006). Learn how Speedheat® electric radiant floor heating systems help boost comfort and save energy.
Atlanta (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) January 11, 2006 -- With natural gas prices anticipated to rise by 35 percent this winter, many Americans are looking for ways to reduce energy consumption by using alternative heat sources.
Rhonda and Mark Havlish of Northern Indiana read about a unique “under carpet” heating system in This Old House magazine and decided to give it a try.
“Our family room is located over an unheated crawl space, and it always felt colder than the rest of the house,” Mrs. Havlish explains. “After reading about Speedheat’s electric radiant floor heating system, we decided to have two panels installed. Last month, it was unusually cold, and we put the product to the test. It surpassed our expectations. And, with gas prices higher this year, we have kept our thermostat turned down. We are so pleased that we are planning on adding Speedheat in at least two other rooms.”
Energy Conservation Key to Lowering Utility Bill Costs:
The Havlish’s are not alone in trying to stay warm while turning back the thermostat. Higher energy prices are anticipated to hit most Americans in the wallet this winter. According to the Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) Short-Term Energy Outlook released January 10, 2006, “on average, households heating primarily with natural gas likely will spend $257 (35 percent) more for fuel this winter than last winter.” The EIA also projected the following potential increases as compared to last year’s rates: heating oil — up 23 percent, propane — up 17 percent and electricity — up 10 percent. The EIA cautioned that if colder weather prevailed, utilities expenditures could be significantly higher.
If this trend continues, investments made in conserving energy should pay for themselves in the future through reducing utility bills.
Easily Conserve Energy and Save on Utility Bills with “Zone Heating”:
“With the proliferation of today’s more spacious homes, the simple concept of ‘zone heating’ is becoming popular to easily reduce heating costs,” says Peter Newman, president of Speedheat US. “Zone heating simply involves heating the occupied rooms in your home while allowing unoccupied areas to remain cooler.”
Mark and Rhonda Havlish are using the concept of zone heating to their advantage. They turn on the Speedheat® panels when they are using the family room and turn them off when not in use. They have also been able to turn down their thermostat and still stay warm. “We have always had to have extra blankets on our chairs for those chilly nights, and I have put them all away,” Mrs. Havlish says. “It’s amazing what a little warmth on the floor can do to keep the entire room comfortable.”
According to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), “zone heating can produce energy savings of more than 20 percent compared to heating both occupied and unoccupied areas of your house.”
Tips for Cutting Energy Use Up to 40 Percent:
For those who want to save even more energy, the Radiant Heating and Cooling Handbook calculates that for every 10 degrees the thermostat is lowered, energy consumption is reduced by approximately 40 percent. While saving this amount of energy is certainly desirable, staying comfortable is also important. With Speedheat, users can enjoy the best of both worlds.
Speedheat warms from the ground up and produces evenly heated rooms that are more comfortable at lower temperatures. So, when Speedheat is installed throughout a home, users can easily reduce the thermostat by 10 degrees or more and still remain comfortable.
“Until you have ‘experienced’ electric radiant floor heating, it is difficult to fully comprehend,” says Mr. Pieter Jansens, chairman of Speedheat International. “Because the radiant heat warms ‘you’ and not the air, you actually ‘feel’ warmer at lower thermostat settings. While the temperature around you is lower, your ‘comfort level’ is actually higher.”
In addition to the “under carpet” warming system selected by the Havlish’s, Speedheat also offers electric radiant floor heating panels that can be used under virtually any floor covering. Speedheat’s installed heating panels also feature fully programmable thermostats.
RugBuddy Offers “Zone Heating” with Plug-n-Warm Simplicity:
Another unique “zone heating” option is RugBuddy™ — the only UL-listed heating mat in the world, approved for use under area rugs. Like an electric blanket for the floor, RugBuddy turns regular area rugs into invisible space heaters. It is an ideal solution when installing electric radiant floor heating is not an option and is a safe, energy efficient alternative to a traditional space heater.
More About Speedheat:
Speedheat is the only electric radiant floor heating company in the world with products designed to safely and efficiently warm directly under virtually any flooring material including: exotic stone, marble, granite, tile, floating wood, laminate, vinyl, carpeting and area rugs.
As the inventors of electric radiant floor heating, Speedheat has produced quality heating solutions since 1985 and currently heats more than 30 million square feet of space Internationally. Speedheat has offices in Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, South Africa, Spain and the United Kingdom. Their United States headquarters are based in Woodstock, Georgia.
While relatively new to the United States, Speedheat has started to attract media attention. This Old House magazine featured Speedheat in their “20 of the Year’s Coolest Tools, Gizmos and Gadgets” list for 2004. Speedheat also received coverage in Points North magazine, Atlanta Home Improvement magazine, was profiled on HGTV’s International Builder's Show 2004 program, featured on FloorRadio and FloorDaily.net and has appeared once on the Ask Andrea nationally syndicated home improvement radio show and has been asked to reappear soon.

New Book Reveals Proactive Methods for Measuring and Managing Corporate Exposure to Risk
The Maintenance Scorecard, ISBN 0831131810 (Published by Industrial Press), reveals methods for proactive measurement of the likelihood of safety, environmental or operational incidents, through failures of physical assets.
(PRWEB) January 16, 2006 -- In the wake of the Hatfield disaster court case in the UK, the passage of bill C-45 into applicable law in Canada, rafts of legislation in the USA senate regarding the reliability of the energy industry, and the recent lawsuit against Disneyland following an incident there, risk has never been more at the forefront of the those who own and manage physical assets. Particularly given trends towards individual accountability as well as corporate accountability.
The new book The Maintenance Scorecard, ISBN 0831131810, looks at the area of asset management in layman’s terms as a center for the mitigation of corporate risk exposure.
In particular it looks at the risk of safety, environmental and operational failures of physical assets.
Aimed at assisting asset-centric organizations to extract greater economic value from their physical asset base, this book details several aspects of risk measurement, and recognizes the unique responsibilities that physical asset managers have with respect to managing risk of a safety incident, or of a breach of environmental standards or legislation.
It starts with an overview of what risk is, and how organizations can manage risk in a cost effective manner, taking care to discuss various asset-centric business sectors. Form this point it goes on to discuss how to build the asset management structure to manage this risk, the impact of daily maintenance and operations activities (normally overlooked or seen as efficiency areas only) and then goes on to detail a new approach to measuring risk in a proactive, rather than reactive sense.
Today, many industrial organizations use only measures such as incident rate metrics, frequency of near misses and other such measures. However, as the book points out, these measures are after the event. By the time it shows up on the management dashboard it is far too late.
For this reason measurement of risk is associated with the asset management interventions that are put into place to ensure that risk is managed to a controllable level. Via this method asset managers can ensure that their physical assets are being managed in a way that supports the tolerable risk envelope that they have decided to work within. Furthermore, they are able to see when they are currently facing higher levels of risk based upon the day-to-day activities that normally go unnoticed.
When properly applied The Maintenance Scorecard is a revolutionary way for a company to view its physical asset base and its management. It changes the focus on the area from one of neccesity, to an approach that develops it as a centre for generating strategic advantages. .
Daryl Mather is a specialist in asset management, risk and reliability.
This article is based on his new book “The Maintenance Scorecard” ISBN: 0831131810. He currently assists selected companies to achieve strategic advantages.

Dallas-Based Medisend International Sends Aid to Indonesia
Medisend International and ExxonMobil partner to send desperately needed medical and surgical equipment and supplies to tsunami ravaged Indonesia.
(PRWEB) January 11, 2006 -- Until recently, with the marking of the one year anniversary of the tragic flood that killed over 200,000 people and devastated Southeast Asia, the media has long ceased sending cameras to the areas struck by the tsunami. The needs, however, are greater than ever. Dallas-based MediSend International established a long-range program for the distribution of medical and surgical equipment and supplies to the region immediately after last year’s horrific flooding. This week, with the generous support and partnership of ExxonMobil, MediSend has shipped two forty foot containers loaded with medical and surgical equipment and supplies to Indonesia. The first container will go to four hospitals in Banda Aceh, one of the worst hit areas by the tsunami in Indonesia. ExxonMobil and MediSend have partnered with Save the Children to distribute the second container to clinics in the rural areas of Indonesia. MediSend partnered with Dallas-based Estech Systems, Inc. (ESI) to send a similar shipment to the area in January 2005 shortly after the devastating earthquake-driven flood, as well as a forty foot container of medical supplies to hospitals in Sri Lanka in November.
A non-profit organization headquartered in Dallas, MediSend has been quietly assuming a global role in relieving unnecessary suffering of patients in need of medical attention worldwide. MediSend International, with warehouse facilities and offices in North Dallas, is dedicated to the recovery of new and used surplus medical supplies and equipment in the US for distribution to developing countries in desperate need of these items. With individuals like renowned primatologist Jane Goodall and Mary Jo Myers, wife of General Richard Myers, on MediSend’s Board, the organization is emerging as an organization with international reach and influence.
With the help of strategic partners such as manufacturers, distributors, and hospital systems that donate surplus usable medical supplies and equipment desperately needed in developing countries, MediSend provides shipments of medical aid to pre-qualified public and charitable institutions that offer medical services abroad. Often, in these areas, doctors and medical practitioners are desperate for the likes of even the simplest items such as surgical gloves or clean syringes. After MediSend collects supplies and biomedical equipment, the items are sorted, inventoried, repaired and shipped. Generous support from corporate sponsors such as ExxonMobil, BHP Billiton, PEMEX, and Estech Systems, Inc.(ESI) enables MediSend to send shipments around the world to help ease the suffering of those in dire need of medical attention. Upon arrival into the recipient areas, a third party NGO oversees the distribution of the supplies. MediSend works with NGO’s such as the World Health Organization, United Nations Development Programmes (UNDP), Save the Children, Cure International, and the International Red Cross.
With support from the ExxonMobil Foundation's Africa Health Initiative, in collaboration with Save the Children, two forty-foot ocean containers loaded with medical supplies and bio-medical equipment were shipped to Angola and a forty foot container was shipped to Equatorial Guinea in November.
MediSend has provided long-term strategic medical aid to Tsunami victims in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and India, as well as aid to Afghanistan, Angola, Iraq, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Mexico, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, Kenya, and Colombia. Unfortunately requests come in faster than can be fulfilled and there are many areas worldwide waiting desperately for the kind of help that MediSend provides. Medisend is sending out an urgent plea to resources such as manufacturers, distributors, and hospital systems for the much needed surplus medical equipment and supplies that will no longer be of use to their facilities but can be lifesaving for those in need.

Boone Pickens Donates $165 Million to OSU Athletics, Largest Gift to Athletics in U.S. History; Goal to Move OSU to Next level and Beyond
Oklahoma State University officials announced today that legendary oilman Boone Pickens has donated $165 million to be used to fund one of the nation’s most comprehensive collegiate athletic complexes during the next five to 10 years.
Stillwater, OK (PRWEB) January 11, 2006 -- Oklahoma State University officials announced today that legendary oilman Boone Pickens has donated $165 million to be used to fund one of the nation’s most comprehensive collegiate athletic complexes during the next five to 10 years.
Pickens’ gift is the largest single donation for athletics to an institution of higher education in U.S. history.
“My passion for OSU has only intensified over the years as I recognize the link between my education and my success,” said Pickens, 77. “I believe that developing teams that are competitive in all sports requires the best facilities possible. Developing those facilities will help move the university into a new era, both in athletics and academics. Athletics have proven to be a significant contributor in the academic success of an institution, both from a fundraising and a performance perspective.”
A key element of long-term success, Pickens said, is a broader base of alumni financial support for OSU. “We are in a new era and I want to see all alums be a part of it,” he said.
Pickens earned a degree in geology from OSU in 1951. He went on to found Mesa Petroleum, which he grew into one of the nation’s largest independent oil and gas firms in his four decades of leadership there. He left the company in 1996 to found BP Capital, an energy investment firm that has consistently ranked as one of the most successful hedge funds in the U.S.
Pickens’ gift will help build the west end zone at Boone Pickens Stadium, a multi-purpose indoor practice complex, new soccer, track and tennis facilities, a new equestrian center, a new baseball stadium and new outdoor practice fields.
OSU System CEO and President David Schmidly says the gift is an important complement to the school’s strategic plan, “Achieving Greatness,” that calls for the spending of about $500 million on various academic, student life and related initiatives.
“This is a truly remarkable gift,” said Schmidly. “Mr. Pickens’ $165 million donation to our athletic program is a critical component of our three-pronged approach to developing a top-tier university. Athletics, academics, and student life must all fit together to build a competitive institution.
“We’re pleased with Boone’s confidence in the leadership of the athletic program and the university, and that he believes so strongly in the overall direction of our institution.”
Pickens has been a generous supporter of OSU athletics and academics, having previously contributed and pledged more than $100 million. In recognition of his academic and athletic gifts, the OSU School of Geology and the university’s football stadium are named in his honor.
Pickens is rapidly earning status as one of America’s greatest philanthropists. His non-profit gifts in 2005, including his latest OSU contribution, total about $230 million. Of that, OSU giving in 2005 was $190 million. Other major recipients of his giving include the American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina disaster relief, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Foundation, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins and UT Southwestern Medical Center.
“Boone is a winner with a vision and high expectations,” OSU Athletic Director Mike Holder said. “It’s now up to us to deliver. His gifts are an inspiration to all Cowboy followers. It is imperative that all Cowboy alumni contribute at a greater level than ever before, and we are dedicating ourselves to making that happen.”
“This is indeed a historic day for Oklahoma State,” said OSU Board of Regents Chairman Burns Hargis. “On behalf of OSU and the OSU Board of Regents we want to say thank you to Mr. Pickens for his indescribable generosity and commitment to OSU. His example the past few years has inspired others to support OSU’s academic and athletic initiatives.”
Big 12 Conference Commissioner Kevin Weiberg said, “We congratulate Oklahoma State and commend the leadership of the university and athletic department for this historic announcement today. The Big 12 Conference enjoys celebrating success whenever one of our member institutions achieves a significant goal. We are pleased a Big 12 institution is the recipient of the largest single gift ever given to an NCAA collegiate athletic program. Big 12 institutions are fortunate to have committed donors who generously support their programs. You cannot be a championship program on a consistent basis without solid financial support. Oklahoma State is blessed to have a donor like Boone Pickens who is willing to invest at an extraordinary level.”
“I cannot say enough about how much we as coaches appreciate Mr. Pickens’ generous support of OSU’s total athletic program,” commented OSU soccer’s coach Karen Hancock. “This gift means a lot to me personally because it will enable us to build the championship soccer facilities to support our student athletes. On behalf of the coaches, we say thank you, Mr. Pickens, and we hope this unprecedented gift will lead to more OSU supporters giving to academic and athletic programs.”
About OSU’s athletic projects
The total cost of the proposed OSU athletic facilities is currently projected to be about $300 million, which includes architectural fees and land acquisition. Those projects, their estimated costs and proposed timelines, include:
· New outdoor practice fields; $6 million; completed
by 2007.
· Closing in of the west end zone at Boone Pickens Stadium;
$120 million; completed by 2008.
· A new equestrian center; $4 million; completed by 2008.

Highway Watch® Issues Request for Assistance - Law enforcement Seeks Person of Interest in Connection with Tanker Incidents
The Highway Watch® program requests assistance from members of the trucking and law enforcement community in identifying a person of interest with connection to several reported incidents in the southeastern United States.
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) January 11, 2006 -- The Highway Watch® program's Highway ISAC today issued a formal Be On the Lookout (BOLO) requesting assistance from members of the trucking and law enforcement community to assist in identifying a person of interest with connection to several reported incidents in the southeastern United States.
The BOLO, issued the afternoon of January 6th, relates to a series of reports from truck drivers involving suspicious activities by what is believed to be the same person. In three separate incidents truck drivers reported an individual asking several questions about tank truck deliveries and operations. The individual in question is also reported to have video taped tank truck operations and deliveries as well as taken photographs of tanker equipment. Law enforcement has requested assistance in ascertaining the identity or whereabouts of the person in question.
"The Highway ISAC believes this to be a legitimate concern and we are committed to working with law enforcement across the nation to resolve the situation as soon as possible," said Don L. Rondeau, Director of the Highway ISAC. "The Highway Watch® is happy to lend our assistance and we look forward to helping law enforcement get to the bottom of these incidents."
Under a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Highway Watch® trains highway professionals to identify and report safety and security concerns on our Nation's roads. The program prepares hundreds of thousands of transportation professionals to respond in the event they or their cargo are the target of a terrorist attack and to share valuable intelligence with Homeland Security if they witness potential threats.
When a security call is made to the Highway Watch® hotline, a report of the incident is forwarded to the Highway Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Highway ISAC) where a team of transportation security professionals assess and analyze the report. Incidents that may pose a threat to national security are then shared with government intelligence officials and other law enforcement agencies. Highway Watch® links trained transportation professionals with first responders, law enforcement and the intelligence community via TSA's Transportation Security Operations Center
Highway Watch® has posted photos of the person in question at www.highwayisac.org. Anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the person in question is encouraged to call the Highway ISAC at 866-821-3444.

Mammoth Resource Partners’ Jeremy Jacobs Elected to PAG
Mammoth Resource Partners, Inc. is honored to announce the election of Managing Director Jeremy Jacobs to a three-year term on the Appalachian Region's Producer Advisory Group (PAG) for the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council (PTTC).
Cave City, KY (PRWEB) January 11, 2006-- Mammoth Resource Partners, Inc. is honored to announce the election of Managing Director Jeremy Jacobs to a three-year term on the Appalachian Region's Producer Advisory Group (PAG) for the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council (PTTC). Jeremy was nominated for this position by PAG member Bill Goodwin, President of the Tennessee Oil & Gas Association.
PTTC is a national industry-directed 501-C-3 organization created in 1994 as a means to transfer exploration and production technology to U.S. oil and natural gas producers. PTTC's primary funding comes from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy through the Strategic Center for Natural Gas and Oil. Other funding is provided by state governments and industry.
PTTC provides this service to industry through 10 regional centers, all of which are located on the campus of a major university. The Appalachian Regional Resource Center is hosted by the National Research Center for Coal and Energy on the campus of West Virginia University.
The goal of the PTTC is three-fold: to identify and clarify producers’ needs; educate producers about technology options; and connect producers to solutions. This is accomplished through surveys, workshops and professional meetings, bringing together oil and natural gas producers, technology providers and the research community to solve problems.
“Jeremy's role will be to help us determine the technical problems currently confronting the industry in this basin, and the available technology that can solve some of these problems, “ said Douglas G. Patchen, Program Director, West Virginia University, Appalachian Basin Regional Lead Organization. “With the other PAG members he will be asked to identify and prioritize workshop topics on an annual basis, and make suggestions regarding the content of the website, and new projects that will lead to more information being made available on the website. He may also be asked to become a "Workshop Champion," a person who helps to develop a topic for a workshop and identify and recruit speakers for the workshop.”
“Mr. Jacob’s appointment to the Producer Advisory Group represents the continued advancement of our senior management to positions of responsibility on a regional and national level,” said MRP President Dr. Roger L. Cory. “Our firm feels that Jeremy has earned this appointment both through his outstanding efforts on behalf of our investors, as well as by attaining a high degree of technical knowledge within the Appalachian region which will prove to be of immense benefit to the PAG and PTTC.”
